We’re back just in time for a trip to…Iowa. The Des Moines Challenge kicks off a week after Ricky Wysocki pulls down his first tour win of 2024 and the guys have spicy takes and spicier picks.

Hold My Bag is a show about pros playing disc golf, hosted by Rich Slaton and Bob Sherriff who are very not pro at disc golf.

Each week, Bob and Rich go head to head with fantasy picks for the Disc Golf Pro Tour. Each must pick one player from the top 10, another ranked 11th to 20th, a third ranked from 21st to 35th, a fourth ranked between 36th and 50th and one player ranked outside of the top 50!

[Music] it’s the dog days of summer and things are heating up all across the disc golf pro tour including one player in particular as Ricky Yaki finally has a win in 2024 hello welcome I’m rich Slayton that’s Bob Sheriff this is hold my bag the best fantasy disc golf game in the universe and the show that talks about it and Bob speaking of the game people can go to hold mybag.com hold myag dg.com to play and you’ve been doing a ton of really cool work to make the player experience even even better I mean you say it’s cool work and I appreciate the encouragement but like I don’t know if I’ve ever worked so hard and for so long to make things somehow more difficult than they were before but I do think we’re heading in the right direction and yeah very excited to roll out all of these changes as part of the de Mo IA De Moine man that’s a really hard word De Moine challenge yeah it’s uh it’s not easy De Moine is a funky one too because it feels like it’s like one thing either way we’ll get to Iowa in just a minute but first let’s go to Europe and then back to the Americas and then go to Europe and then back to America go yeah I’m really excited to talk about it spell de Mo without looking d s space m o i NES that’s very solid I’ve been looking at the word all week and it’s just like waking my brain now it’s still French right it’s a French word I’m I’m sure it is or not it’s likely one of those two things speaking of France Bob we don’t go to France but we do go to Europe a whole lot and I wanted to talk about this because we the the you know we here hold my bag have not just skipped the show but actually not had the game play the actual fantasy league run for a couple European events because so many of the core players aren’t there and we have categories with three people in it and it’s absolutely terrible and I want to show you something I think is a big part of this problem here is what it looks like if you were to go back and forth between the US and Europe for all the different events because of the way the works out that 28,000 miles yep 62 hours of travel time not to mention the CO2 right I mean how much you’re you’re how much how much you’re ruining the world Bob with your CO2 emissions crazy TR Swift itinerary I know right I mean you think about this one right this starts um if we take a look like at how the schedule starts um the the last one in the US before you go to Europe is is um Dynamic Discs so we start in in uh Emporia Kansas and then fly to Denmark which is there at that little red that little red dot there at the bottom of the Norway Sweden like right it’s kind of right there under the fingers and then from there you go okay cool let’s go back to let’s go all the way to California for Stockton and then we go up to Portland and then fly from Portland back over to Finland for the turu open and then from Finland fly back to preserve to to clear water for The Preserve and then from there go to Sweden and then from there come back for DmC then finally you go to Europe again for um kro and for the European championship and the European disc golf f um festival and then finally you’re done with this crazy run of going back and forth Bob is this just a is this a feature or is this a bug you think in the Pro Tour schedule I mean it’s like all the hardships of being not a established sport right like I mean I think some I’ve seen on sun rdit a couple times like I think some really um valid points made are that points shouldn’t count in the European Pro Tour in the same way they count in the US Pro Tour because I mean you have again congratulations to tra James brocker in the Swedish open I think is that what he took down um James Proctor is not winning a US event currently like I I mean again that’s maybe too far but like it is highly unlikely that James Proctor wins a US event right now and for him to win a European open Event it’s like this this goes to show that like the the point should not be weighed equally like I think if this is why I really like stat Mando by the way because I feel like stat Mando has figured out a formula that actually measure things correctly funny enough I’m going to go ahead and tell you that’s all my picks are based on um what are they called the St Mando what is St Mando called not world rankings but like current season rankings oh sure sure yeah the power rankings or whatever Power Rankings all my picks are based on power rankings this week so I don’t know what are your thoughts uh I think that you know you have some cool events here we were planning on doing I think we were planning on doing either turku or Swedish open I don’t remember which one it was um one of them we were always not going to do just because I wanted to do Swede open no I wanted to do Swede open I went through the process of setting it up and I realized like halfway in that nobody’s going it was three players per it does really feel like there’s a good chunk look so you have three events you have um you have the Norway event and then you have European Disc Golf Championship um the weekend after that in Finland and then you go to Estonia for the disc golf Festival right so you do have a thre week run in Europe that I think of most of the most of the top Pros I think we’ll have a pretty filled out lineup for that most of the pros who are competitive in the league are going I believe but those events before that are still being considered Elite plus events right Sweden turku and Copenhagen I feel like those either need to be completely separated from the tour or as you said weighted down in points or they need to be adjusted like the schedule needs to adjust to better work with those it’s crazy that we have an event like that we’re in Finland then Clear Water Minnesota then Sweden then back to the US again and then in Europe for three EV for three weeks in a row right that doesn’t make any sense I think there needs to be like you said either reting or rejiggering the schedule so it you can go to go to Europe for eight weeks that rules that rules I mean that makes sense like like don’t you’re almost like discounting yourself by making these events like across the pond over and over every weekend like you’re like you’re literally admitting like we don’t really consider these real events because otherwise we obviously wouldn’t schedule them this way um because it makes no sense like if you’re going to do a EUR European sweep of the tour make it a European sweep of the tour do not come back do not allow like don’t film events like De Moine De Moine challenge God for whatever reason that word is like literally wrinkling my brain I I’ve been looking at it so much as part of like creating the app and stuff and it’s just like that’s not how you spell words yeah it’s not right uh but anyways frustrating and I love the fact that there’s a European arm of the game I love that it’s International like it’s not I want to I want to see South America we’ve got actually a number of South American players um one of your favorites Rand L uh South American we’ve got a number of South American players that Randy D who we’re gonna have on the show eventually like he’s a lot of guys coming up he’s from Bolivia I believe is if I’m correct Central America but you said what’s D’s first name again Randy why are all South American players Randy Brandon Brandon Brandon Randy yeah okay maybe I’m mixing up Randon L and Randy dwick I think I am I’m probably mixing those two up but anyways the point is like let’s get International but like be the best that you are in that continent and then make it a world event like a as it is this year in Europe um but don’t do anything do this don’t do anything more than that don’t don’t count all the points towards the same thing because looking at like you always think of European players as like discounted I think a lot of European players are inflated right now based on the points that they’re achieving in European events not competing against us players so I actually I I don’t think it adds up in terms of the world rankings and Power Rankings Etc like interesting I mean they’re not coming to the US for events but the events that they’re playing so it’s like a mixed bag it’s like the events that they’re playing in Europe they’re getting too many points for but they’re not getting any the US points so it’s like there’s just issues yeah no there’s when you when you have one tour splitting its points that’s a problem um and luckily we do have kind of a some lower attendance for DmC right there’s a couple of the categories you know we’re at like six or six or seven out of 10 in some of those middle categories and we’ll talk about why why I think some of them were very difficult to pick this time around it’s not totally gutted but we do have something to look at in um in de moin at the at the at the the de moin challenge which uh I told you about I don’t know if you’ve seen a picture of it yet whole 17 and I want to show you how whole 17 looks so here’s where here’s where we start right oh we start from a normal there’s a normal tea box cool cool right we’re in the woods and now we get to this oh you have a you have a forced carry right you have to come out here to this little area and then do a forced carry and then where does that forced carry take you to it takes you to Iowa it takes you to a and I’m going to go ahead and blow this up here for you it takes you to a green that is in the shape of Iowa and I have that red arrow Bob that is inside the circle but because Iowa is weird and they chose to like set it up this way there’s this there’s two inside the circles but this one very glitchy inside the circle area that is um that is OB it’s that is out of bounds it’s not outside the ccle it’s out of bounds cires is that is that Circle one that’s Circle one Circle one are you saying that The Landing zone is just barely bigger than Circle one yes it’s a it’s a force carry that’s slightly bigger than Circle one and is offset with one weird glitchy part the northwest of Iowa that doesn’t actually fit ins that makes that you would be OB in that area so Bob cool cool idea glitch what are your thoughts so funny dude I’m so glad that this is the moment I’m actually seeing this for the very first time yeah um first off what is the positioning of that Landing Zone like if you’re if you land in circle one no matter whether it’s an island hole or not you should be safe why is it positioned off kilter and like to the left I it’s super weird am I messing this up like no well we we’ve had we definitely had some we’ve had some greens this year where the green is offset and some of circle one’s not in the green I don’t love that but I guess I understand at this level of play why they’re doing that on some of these forc carries or things like that I don’t but this weirdal is the capital exactly like is De Mo right where the basket is is that why um it’s no that’s more like I mean that looks like it’s kind of between Cedar Rapids and De Moine and then just north of debuk is where you run into that no man’s land I guess that’s fair the upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge is where that is where is where that red arrow points so that’s the Wilderness so I guess Bob if you land in the wilderness on this course on this hole then you are OB that is that’s the the Thematic element they’ve gone with first off I love themes I would love to see more themes involved in the Pro Tour I just think it’s a phenomenal idea I love Ian this is so unique and I’m very into it I just can’t get over this whole challenge it’s literally a challenge like de Mo the word is a challenge for me that whole is a challenge for me to understand like what what were you thinking to your point it’s not even de why would you not make the basket Deo that’s crazy right I mean it’s like noticeably noticeably not De Moine yes like it’s not even like oh we’re like guessing it’s not yeah I’m I’m looking at a map right now I’m on Google Maps right now and that’s like kind of yeah it’s between C and at least an inch to the south west of where it is current it should definitely be moving left for sure what in the world were they think I mean can do you have any actual pictures of like the actual hole I have not seen one yet um if I can find one when I’m editing I’ll throw in on top of this I’m sure we’ll see it on the probably get some good aerial shots of it during the event I’m sure they’ll do some drone like look at our cool thing but it’s it’s kind of like if they you know shaped a whole like a a a green like Texas and then just like near like right where you border with Oklahoma near the Panhandle or something you’re like or like just you go like oh here’s that corner right the cor the Texas is on this side now the Texas Corner they just like threw OB there for no reason I mean again I love the idea I love the theme I love so much I I swear de MO is just effing with us like I swear they are just like they’re like let’s let’s name ourselves something ridiculous let’s make the whole not accurate like or like not live up to where De Moine actually is like it’s just like one non-stop mind game from the people of Iowa which had been historically known to be Ry sarcastic mind messing with people every yeah yeah and Ganon B Ganon B is from Iowa right uh is the hole located where like is actually the pin is just where he where he was born in honor of him having been the champion last year that’s actually an interesting question I mean I’m sure it’s not but like he wasn’t a champion last year Simon Laz was a champion last year at this one do you not remember this event this event was like unbelievable DMC 2023 man this saw Burge dude how do you not know this this is one of the most epic finishes of all time this is like oh wait am I thinking 2022 yeah you’re definitely think of 2022 last year yeah g yeah did last year Ganon won it and it was cut short it was one day short Simon did win it in 2022 you’re AB I was like I spent a lot of time looking at this um yeah Ganon Burr Ganon Burr is from Urbandale Iowa I’m just gon to I’m going to test this Theory and find out if if it is Poss if it’s even possible nope he’s from the other side of De Moine so that doesn’t f that’s like he’s from De Moine basically a suburb of De Moine so I love that when you Google Urbandale Iowa the first picture is just a church it’s just a church like in flat grounds like it just I see a water tower no no I’m just saying like that’s no no I’m not I’m like there’s like an about you know how there’s always like an about and like zip codes population area code oh yeah um that’s a that’s like that’s like a church that wasle map picture and then it’s a every Church in the midwest that you would imagine looks like like exactly that picture of Urbandale Iowa yeah for sure no no I’m looking at that same I’m seeing the same picture you are right now and I feel like that was also a one room Schoolhouse it’s like everything I’m fairly certain that Julia Roberts ran from that church um in a movie do you know what I’m talking about yeah I I totally I’m I’m picking up what you’re laying down okay um I feel like a bunch of kids between the ages of five and 17 were all taught to read in there in that room at the same time that’s my that’s the vibe I’m getting taught to read now I got to save now I now I got to throw I you know I’m I don’t even know what that like I don’t even know what that what I’m gonna put that picture into the into the I’ll drop it in so people know what we’re riffing on because yeah that’s it is hilarious um well since we’re talking about Iowa let’s get into Iowa we have uh our hmb picks we got to get into uh it’s I’m excited for these picks I I’m excited to see see how your scheme worked out with the power rankings and for those of you who haven’t picked with us before here’s how the rules work you’re going to pick five players each from different ranking categories based on the stat Mando world rankings one player ranked first through 10th in the world one ranked 11th through 20th someone ranked 21st through 35th a player ranked 36th through 50th and one more player ranked 51st or higher those five from different parts of the rankings will make up your team and their scores at the end of the weekend will combine to make your score and hopefully your score is good enough to be our winner on the week and maybe take down a disc golf disc or take down enough uh a cool gift card to your disc golf shop of choice all based on how much you really understand these players this course and dig deep into our lineups Bob I am ready for this one I’m so excited and by the way this like in terms of like we talked about earlier like the improvements that we’re making to the app and the growth I mean obviously we’re two white males who have uh completely unrealistic expectations of like the thing that we’ve done together so we’re already growing we’re already seeing things happen and and when I say unrealistic expectations we have Pie in the Sky dreams about what this could be um but we already have uh a great disc golf shop first one coming on and sort of being like a sponsor slash promoter slash creating Community around it and it’s just like they’re going to be offering um their own prizes alongside of our prizes which is like just awesome it’s just so awesome to see other people getting on board with this game so very excited um I’m gonna go ahead and tell you my strategy for this week because it’s gonna make what I have to say maybe boring but okay most I say it’s boring so that’s like not really a surprise to anybody seeing this thing um what do you and I believe is like the number one predictor of someone’s success in an upcoming tournament let me ask you that well I think you one word you had to say in one word oh one word well for you I would go with no no I’m saying both seem to agree is in one word it I did momentum that’s exactly the word momentum the big moment give me Mo players with momentum sure I’m in so this entire thing I’ve made picks on is based on power rankings in conjunction with current world rankings so I literally use Chacha BT it’s really lovely in terms of creating a Google sheet formula and essentially what I did was I found the top 100 players current world rankings and then I took the 100 players based on Power Rankings and I found the single biggest divide between what their current ranking is and how well that they’re doing this season and I chose that player for every category got it whoever is best outperforming their world ranking with the current Power Rankings yeah except for the top 10 in which case like I looked for the lowest because you want somebody who’s obviously exactly where they should be um but yeah all right who has so now before we get before we get started um who has the um the jump ball Arrow right now between you and me me you do I do I’m the first one all right well then uh I guess let’s get to our first round picks a player ranked one through 10 in the world you ready for this same player ready all let’s do it one two three yep I got him yep yep bot gets G bur yep 100% I had a feeling I so I was part of my I’m gonna tell you right now he is I think on paper the best pick I like my backup pick but I had a feeling you would and I want to get the jump ball Arrow back to me for the rest of this so I picked that kind of knowing assuming I wasn’t going to get him I mean it really like it’s a stupid thing to want like getting anyone like it’s like picking top 10 it honestly might be the most boring category that exists I know a lot of players that play home my bag like want more points for being able to pick the winner of an event which again like I get it I get that you would want that but like this game is not about knowing who’s already awesome this game is about knowing who’s gonna be awesome this event like that’s the game and guess what gon even at his worst is coming up top 10 everyone I mean actually by the way did you see remember when we talked on the last show mattio moved into the 11 through 20 and wi the next time do you not remember this we talked about thiso will Mio ever return to the top 10 world rankings like is he on the way out is this his like eventual decline answer no it is not he already overtook um Cole right Cole yeah in the last event he crushed it it was The Preserve he crushed it Mio’s great um I didn’t pick him for this one and here’s who I didn’t pick also I didn’t pick Calvin because of jet lag coming back from Europe because again boom I’m not I’m not messing with this I’m not messing with this very smart I didn’t pick AB because I don’t trust him yet he had a okay t a good tournament to preserve but considering how bad he’s been I don’t trust him yet so ab’s out for me Kyle finished in like the 60s here last year so Kyle Klein’s out and that Tes me one of my favorite picks when I have not had a chance to make many times this year we’re going with Simon for this one we’re doing a Simon 2022 yeah winner 2022 seventh year last year in the shortened version played well at The Preserve I love picking Simon so you put all those things together and it’s like yeah let’s go ahead let’s get let’s go with Simon I love it Simon is such an interesting character it’s like every time I think it he’s washed he’s just not he’s just not I mean like he’s honestly like that Dad on tour he’s like reached that age where he’s like like he’s got other priorities he’s like he’s got a big brand like he doesn’t oh yeah he doesn’t need to be up there anymore and yet he just is and every time I discount him he crushes it it’s like I don’t know I think I think that you have to you say he doesn’t have the same reason to be up there anymore he just launched time lapse right like or just laun launched Simon line Just Launch Simon line right so like he needs a few years of juicing that line by still being competitive in this scene like he like to do you think it’s important for a player to be good for a player to sell disc and I asked you that because we just saw the launch of the bill NY discs and no one has any idea if Bill n is any good at disc golf which I assume he’s like your general geriatric player no Bill Nye was a competitive Ultimate Frisbee player who’s been playing discol for a very long time like he’s Bill Nye can ball like I I can I can confirm that Bill Nye is a lifelong like longer than both of you I’ve been playing disc Sports now for over 30 years and it’s not impossible that his and his tenure in disc Sports Outlast the two of us combined it’s actually not impossible I’m not saying that he’s not I’m just saying like it doesn’t require like you don’t have to be good at disc golf to sell a disc golf disc that was my whole point B but B B crer I think that you’re I think that you have to separate berer well Bert Cher sells discs too right like also the guy who’s not necessarily good at disc but it’s but it’s celebrity versus now Simon has gotten into Disc Off celebrity territory but I don’t think that’s a level of celebrity that like I I wonder with a pro like is Simon line big enough that it’s like the Air Jordans like people still buy Jordans right like is Simon line at that level I think that it I I don’t know the answer to that question but I think that he probably wants to send a few more years of really like of good play of being in the Limelight in this sport to to cement that long term it’s a really interesting topic I know we’re trying to keep these podcasts at 30 minutes but like this is one that I really I think is really interesting because like I don’t know if I’ve ever bought a disc because a player uses a disc like I think there are discs that like I I buy just based on numbers right and like reputation like I want to like sure things like destroyers t- birds I mean again I’m like name a bunch of inov like crave like uh you know I like I think uh min single best assist is a Jackalope you ever played with a Jackalope never play with the Jackalope no oh my God so flippy it’s amazing it’s like the the best thing you can throw backand straight at least in my amateur arms um so I I guess I’m I’m trying to understand like I love the fact that Simon went to MVP I love the Simon line I’m seeing my entire room now because you’ve gone widescreen with me and I didn’t realize there were so many suitcases in this room um all right we’ll bring you we’ll bring you back in tight you see I really hate when you do that I know it’s like part of like the production value here we go like you can see now you can see all I found my my box of discs they’re back what is that what is are those like not playable discs like why so many um just because I’ve been playing I’ve been playing since the late 90s so I want some can I have some of those discs like why are you holding on to them are they just sitting there like this honestly feels like a Toy Story when the kid goes off to college and like well like I mean I’ll show you a few things right like this is the from the first tournament this is my winning from the first tournament that we ever this is the initi the the origination of hold my bag right yeah so that’s what this one is um I have a few of the wish had gone to like doubles I’m wearing I have a few of the the ranch like the ranch discs right you have we’re doing this by the way since we’re doing this can I show you a disc okay so uh for viewers at home that don’t know because none of you would know um I’m expecting my second child in November thank you did I ever show you how my wife so my wife told me that we were pregnant sure at the open at Austin and do you know how she told me with a disc so here’s the disc it’s open at Austin and she went and bought it without me seeing oh that’s cool and she wrote this and Mar on that’s so cool that’s very that’s very fun it says for those can’t read at home this disc is how my wife told me she was pregnant that is super fun you know we both have important like family discs this one when I was getting ready to propose to my wife like uh Rachel’s parents live out in like the sticks here in in in Austin and they have enough land out there that we that we play We like played a makeshift game of disc golf and I threw this disc I made an errant shot on on purpose so I could get her dad separated from the group while we were looking so I could ask for his Blessing um but then we actually never found it because I like really yeed the heck out of this thing and then eventually years later they found it and gave it back to me so this is my engagement disc I love so much that you’re pretending that you didn’t just naturally shank that shot and part two is that you decided to ask your wife’s father for ha in marriage while she was somewhat around you no no no I didn’t I didn’t ask him for permission I asked him for his Blessing very specifically blessing sorry you know what I’m saying same thing but yes no we were doing pics oh yeah we should do pics hey let’s let’s go on let’s go on to tier two that was fun though that was fun it was good I enjoyed it hopefully people stuck around for that portion let’s get into tier two and this is where man um I am F I have been I’m looking at my two pcks and I have been 5050 on these this whole time and I I think man all right I I’ve made my pick I’m going to let you have the pick that you want I’ve made my pick because I know you’re gonna pick let me have a pick like what does that even mean well because I have the I have the arrow right now so I could steal ezar Robinson from you which you’re about to pick no I’m not he’s the right he’s a good he’s a good pick but I told you I have a theme I have AE well then let’s go to our next pick prno interesting dude I again I’m just going on Power Rankings cool Andrew prno Ezra Robinson’s number two but Andrew prel is uh currently season ranked at sixth Ezra Robson is seventh so I you know I I pick a theme I stick with the theme I was gonna pick Ezra Robinson Ezra I was gonna pick Ezra three top 10 last four dgpt events but he just went home for he he dropped out last minute from The Preserve for personal reasons the difference was yeah I didn’t even think about that that one that one made me nervous and then on the flip side Chris Dickerson just posted on Instagram he got news that his hip is he does not have the a vascular necrosis that he thought he had um so like a huge bit of news there um so I think that that’s like he’s coming he’s coming back for this event I think he’s bolstered by that feel in so uh yeah when did Chris Dickerson become 16th or no that’s power rankings when did Chris Dickerson well he had he SK world rankings he’s 16th world rankings he’s 18th Power Rankings Chris Dickerson was a top 10 player last year Chris Dickerson was in the mix for one through 10 crazy dude it’s a crazy world yeah K you know K Klein’s like the guy that I think I know we both look over him mo more often than not but like that guy to me is like sneaky sneaky good like he’s literally could win any given event and yet you would never think that he’s going to win the event I don’t know he missed a playoff at Austin by one stroke you know what I mean like by by that great going to Darkness putt um by nichas so no Kyle’s a baller for sure I wish I I wish we were partners with stat Mando because I would love to understand what top 10’s looked like over the years like who was where because I mean I’m I’m like looking the fact that Chris Dickerson that you picked him and he was available through the 11 through 20 I’m like who what why like he’s a top 10 player in my mind Chris Dickerson is still a top 10 player so really good pick well let’s get into our pick three and I’m actually very curious there’s a there’s a solid chance I think that here’s my guess I’m gonna guess that the system you used picked a Gavin here I don’t know which Gavin it picked obviously obviously pied a Gavin yep obviously so I’m going to go ahead let’s go to our picks I think that you’re and you’re taking yeah wrath bun I I had a feeling it was Wrath bun because of his performance this year versus last year um so that was pretty clear I like Babcock he’s finished above the tier four in the last five events three of those are top 10 tied for third here last year um but Rath bun was here you go boom wrath buun was my second was my backup pick so I mean wrath buun is so far in way the pick by the way can can we talk a little bit about what power rankings mean and like yeah what do they actually mean so so I mean Power Rankings is like season like season scores right like so um it’s like who’s hot this year right um versus like two-year roll over different points Etc by the way so for every category the formula the Google sheet formula that I asked chbt to create for me essentially took what their power rankings were and subtract did what sorry yeah subtract sorry took what their current world ranking is and then subtracted where their power ranking was so if you had a negative number that’s bad it means you’re like currently doing worse than your world ranking says you are doing got if you have a positive number you’re doing much better than your current world ranking does so one through 10 is like pretty much a a wash almost yeah is but you who do you think in the top 10 has the worst ratio the the lowest negative number um Eagle maybe because Yeah by by a long shot so Eagle is uh what is he Eagle is 39 in based on Power Rankings 39 ranks below his current world rank so he’s not obviously having a great season we all know that yeah sure the 11 through 20 category who do you think Takes the Cake like who’s the best 11 through 20 no no uh no no well I mean Andrew prno is I’m making every pick the higher the positive the highest positive number I took that person in every category if like yes oh so who was the who was the opposite of that yeah um let me look at who’s in that that category I’m looking at just the world rankings not the power rankings because I don’t want to I don’t want to spoil it for me um my my guess is in power rankings um compared to their world ranking uh it might be Cole Cole seems like a good call no he’s only two down but it’s uh Bradley Williams 16 spot see him at the bottom of the bottom of of that ranking category yeah I mean he’s the 20th ranked that kind of makes sense sure Gavin Gavin is 12 spots ahead so he’s he’s ninth based on Power Rankings he’s 21st in the world based on world rankings who do you think is and it’s pretty there’s two players that have like pretty substantial three sorry three players Kevin Jones 21 through 35 okay so yeah Kevin Jones is not even number one you would think Kevin Jones would be number one he’s 44 spots this season uh Jo Freeman Joel Freeman’s only 17 no it’s Cory Ellis Cory Ellis that makes sense that makes lot sense yeah and then right so it’s Cory Ellis and then tied is Kevin Jones and this surprising player this surprising player um a Bad season you say surprising um I guess I don’t think of him as having a bad season but like Luke humph Alden Harris Al Harris Al Harris is having a bad season yeah I definitely passed him over in this category I’m we’re looking at him kind of closely so I mean he was uh I don’t know if he was the first available last tournament but he he has been consistently someone who is vying for that spot and I really hate it because he’s the most lovely human being that I’ve ever met and I just like everything about him his whole vibe and I just want him to succeed so yeah this category was pretty was pretty small to pick from now I’m like looking at it again right like this is supposed to be a 15 player category it’s 1 2 3 4 5 six 7 7 8 9 10 11 it’s 11 so missing four um not that small I guess most of the Europeans are missing it looks like yeah me Europeans that are gone De Moine de Mo’s actually pretty hefty um okay ready to move on all right let’s go to our 36 through 50 pick okay man I again let me look at my look let me look at my two this one’s getting screw me by the way this one is the one that’s G to screw me all right I am I picked I picked the again highest number in terms of momentum right got it I picked him before in a totally different category this one’s gonna screw me I’m telling you that right now all right um I had a theme all right I’m S I made my pick I made my pick oh boy nervous about it here we go one two three Connor Rock interesting yeah I can see why he would B based on your metric I totally get why he would be the one that like your your AI uh tells you to do I mean 49th he’s currently 49th world ranking this season he’s 17 so he’s 49th he’s at 26 spot that would make it 23 he’s 23rd he’s 23rd based on the season yeah that’s a good SE I mean again he won the Vegas challenge he’s had a couple good events but um he’s not who you should choose in the 36 through 50 category I know that I just want to see if this works um yeah I mean Casey white was my backup that’s that’s the other good play I think here uh keimer by the way didn’t he have a tub tournament last week um no he play actually played pretty well at The Preserve I think he ended up placing like 17th or something at The Preserve if that if I remember correctly um let me go ahead and and uh confirm that The Preserve by the way who do you think in 36 50 category is the top 14th at The Preserve for he h and 36 through 50 who do I think is the top is the top loser based on James con world ranking and Curr or he tried he’s 35 spots back but he is not the worst uh vinyl MCA would be my second pick actually Vino might actually be it I it literally says not found currently which means that he’s no it’s probably it because he’s not in the 100 he’s not in the top 100 for the season so V definitely is definitely it that’s crazy I didn’t even think about the fact that it said not found so Vino Fino is it but who I was thinking of was um Chris Clemens it’s also 45 spots back he’s had a b yeah I I looked at him at this tournament and was like nope not at all um Heimer was a tough pick for me here cuz Heimer like he’s streaky right started off bad this season then starting at Texas States had a nice little streaky run um through the South and then had a bad patch but then now he just placed well at The Preserve after having a bad tournament here last year so I’m just kind of riding the feel the feeling that Jake Heimer is streaky and this is the right direction for a streak for him I mean he’s he’s one of my favorite players of 2024 I think it’s a phenomenal pick if I’d actually like done the due diligence of like figuring out who I should actually pick out out side of like this theme I think he would have been high if not the choice so um good pick yeah 51 and above all right let’s get our 51 and those are wondering like why that weird pause or cut whatever it is that rich does in post production uh I was to cover for you but go ahead it’s a full it’s like we’ve been talking forever and I’ve been drinking this water this whole time like it’s gonna happen yeah that’s fair it’s actually really hot in my office and I didn’t bring my water so I’m in the opposite situation where like I’m dehydrated and sweating out the what little hydration I have so we have the exact opposite problems today I I love it all right you ready here’s my problem is I’m this is man cuz you know you know 51 and above is like the one that can make or break you 100% that’s the and I don’t like either of my picks here um I actually this theme might actually screw me here because I had to pick the largest difference between where they are yeah and what they’re currently ranked okay so I did not pick someone that I I want I don’t want to like trash him because again but not someone that you pay attention to he’s not someone I would pick normally but he so this one was interesting because again 51 and above is like is like the Deep part of the ocean like there is just like it’s a massive massive pool people it turns out it’s like every dis golf pro player ever I’m in the 50 plus and above I’m in the 50 plus above you’re in the 50 plus above everyone watching this is likely in the 50 plus above but so I didn’t pick I had to be reasonable about that so this is the largest difference in the positive direction I could find without also being a stupid yeah yeah while being while being amongst a player who made it into the top 100 at least well they’re still in the top 100 and they’re playing um they’re playing de Mo and they are lot of them aren’t playing de Mo so you know because they like have full-time jobs uh so or they or like their Winnebago got a flat tire and they’re stuck somewhere yeah yeah um okay man I am going to go with what I think is the safer pick in these two rather than the fun pick you ready this I just like think it’s so crazy that you show up to the show your show yeah your show without actually having made choices yet I have I have extensive notes I have my options in front of me I have extensive notes and I also I have to prepare two people anyway in case we pick the same person so I do prepare two people I don’t have a second I have no second here because there’s no way that you chose who I chose all right you ready yeah three two one let’s go thank God there actually how do you he was on my short list what are you talking about of course Randon was on my short list thank God no I definitely thought the like some risk to what I just did but yeah Randon L is 28 spots ahead in the season than his current world ranking of 59th some notable Daniel Davidson I guess I’m guessing European uh Dennis augus I’m guaranteeing his European Omni arm min as another I was trying to figure out why I skipped Randon L here because he did well here last year like he did well here last year well he he didn’t do terribly he he he shot above his rank here last year he tied for 40th um Chandler fry Chandler fry is another person who was my initial pick for this spot but is not playing annoyingly where you at Chandler that’s fair I didn’t pick Randon because of his last three events 45th th in Portland 24th in Beaver State and then 40th at The Preserve right so that to me felt like a downward Trend and then he played an a tier in Oakland and got eighth and I was like all right and got eighth to like above him is like Zack Arling house won it um like the only Nam above him you recommend like Zack Arling house Jared stole but other than that like there was an under thousand rated player who finished above him a couple other under under like he tied two under under thousand rated players so I just didn’t that Trend to me did not look good for picking Randon L again it was out your control spoke against what you spoke to was momentum which is really annoying because overall his momentum says you’re wrong but it sounds like factually I’m wrong which bums me out because he’s my pick well you know you’re I I know you like systems I know you like to H like you’re like work smarter not harder and sometimes um that backfires but I like your commitment to the to the thing commitment to the bit um thing Bill Gates has this thing where he said I I love lazy people because if I get a lazy smart person into a role like I love hiring them they will figure out the least amount of effort they have to put into to get the job done and then I’ll figure out that system and use it for people who I know how to work hard uh proud of you so that’s me very proud of you for for getting it done and also for all the not lazy things you’ve done including you mentioned it earlier and we I published this at the top of the show but I didn’t know if we were announcing it yet but that we’re bringing private leagues
