if you look at Rory mooy’s career nobody in ever can say he hasn’t been an amazing amazing player and he’s a four-time major Champion the word has then well yeah I know but and if you look at how well he’s done in Majors all together I mean 2022 he came second in the Masters tied fifth the US Open third in the open and eighth in the PGA last year he was cut from the Masters but then came second in the US Open tied six in the open and tied seventh in the PGA and obviously yesterday he came second so he’s now got four major wins and he has got one two three four seconds or tied seconds but unfortunately and obviously in the in the history books people don’t really remember second places certainly in golf and it got me thinking about this a bit more in the sense of when you look at the guys like Rory and compare him to an Adam Scott or a Sergio Garcia or just Rose who’ve all been on the channel there’s a lot of golfers out there who winning a major championship feels like it’s almost essential for them to kind of retire happy and you look at a golfer like Colin Montgomery arguably the most famous golfer ever to not win a major maybe Lee West would follows closely second their careers will never feel although as good as they’ve been they’ve missed out on that major and you could argue in football terms Steven Gerard never in the Premier League it’s the same kind of thing when you look at a guy like again Adam Scott or a Sergio or Justin Rose who’ve had all great careers winning that one major was massive for them and it it really feels like they could almost retire tomorrow they’ve they’ve got that major championship I’m sure they’d love to win more and they may will go on to win more and then you’ve got guys now like Tommy who I know he’s nowhere near needing to worry about this but Tommy Fleetwood can’t not win a major in his career he has to win a major I think it’s such an important thing for him to do but when you look at Rory now with four major wins that’s incredible of course it is but he hasn’t now won one for 10 years and how many are slipping away and Sliding Away now you may say another one will come will it I don’t know possibly and you think it will do but even if it does even if Rory wins one more and gets to five brilliant but when you then look at the list of major winners and you look at who the guys who’ve got serious major championships Jack Nicholas 18 obviously Tiger Woods 15 Walter Hagen 11 Ben Hogan nine Gary Player n Tom Watson eight and then we even look at Nick Faldo again been on the channel six-time major Champion Phil Mickelson six-time major Champion they’re the names that Rory should be mixing with Rory in my opinion should be going down in his you know in as a legend of the game as a Tom Watson with eight majes every one of these second places that slips him by is another one that he’s not winning is he going to get that number where he should be he shouldn’t be retiring on four majors or even five it should be the eights or the nines or even the tens he is he not fulfilling his potential I honestly feel this was his biggest chance in in recent times well it was a three-foot put wasn’t it essentially well I can’t remember a time when he’s been closer to winning the major M obviously was leading going into the the 150th open at St Andrews but then you obviously had Cameron Smith come from nowhere and and put put his lights out and and and win it outright when mroy got tied with Bryson and he was a hole ahead I never really thought or he actually even he actually went a shot clear or did he go two shots clear I still didn’t think he was going to do it there was just something in me was like I don’t think this is going to end like this I don’t think Rory is going to par in and win this tournament um which is crazy to say cuz it’s Rory maroy he has every shot in the bag he he he is undoubtedly one of the most talented golfers have ever wor the planet yet he’s got a two- shot lead or a one- shot lead with three or four holes left to play and I wasn’t convinced he was going to win it and it’s that it’s mindblowing if that was a normal tournament yeah I think he would have won it yeah I think if that was a normal PJ Tour event he would have won that event it’s the fact it was a major and that must go through his head he had he had that putt on 16 three footer and there was a start he’d not M he he’d hold 494 feet uh 494 three foot puts in a row or something like that during the season MH that’s the first one he missed and then to go on and and not get up I thought it was a stupid Club decision on on 18 I should don’t I know Nick falder was talking about it on the commentary I don’t think he should have H driver he did three-wood every day hit driver into the rubbish he he left it short the green didn’t get up and down like I don’t know it a lot and I’ve never been in this camp but there’s a lot of talk online today about whether it is time to get a new caddy and I’ve never been in that camp I’ve never been in it but when you look at those decisions coming down the stretch is it is it time for him to get a more experienced CAD on the bag maybe and I’m I’m certainly not qualified to make that judgment I don’t believe but when you think about what a caddy does if you look at where he has look at the last number of years as where he’s finishing major championships these seconds these tied seconds these thirds these millions of top 10 is it the caddy that’s going to move a little bit more or does that come down to bottle certainly you know a caddy can certainly give you confidence and try and take your mind off it and relax you and put you in a good head space but surely when you get yourself to those places that you just knock in that short putt on the the last hole the caddy Can’t Hold Your Hand the caddy can’t hit take the put for you it comes down to you in between the years what do they what are they saying to him in that in that moment in time like when you look at someone like Ted Scott who’s won so many major tournaments not only with uh Scotty Sheffer but also with Bubba Watson they must they must be saying something that’s helping that player stay calm in that time period but i’ put that more down to like sport psychologist that you see and stuff the caddy is there obviously know more than just to carry the golf bag but if that caddy is giving you the right advice all week to get you hitting the golf ball well and in the right places and helping you get into that top five that top 10 that first Place surely then it comes down to you doing it I don’t know as I said it’ be great to hear some advice off a caddy maybe I genuinely this a I’d love he’s unfortunately we’ve not managed to get him on the channel yet I would love to get Rory on the channel I’d love to talk to him about all of this I’d love to get him on a 10 shot challenge I’d love you know I’d really and we’re good luck charm you see what’s happened with the players we’ve had on the channel so far they go on to win they go on to win it’s just that’s how it’s how it happens here on the Rick Shields golf show um the other thing I was going to say is he’s got a lot of things going on in his life an Rory at the moment well he was obviously you know it was well known he filed for divorce uh apparently that isn’t happening now which is is great and he he’s he’s still with his wife Etc um but what what I thought was really kind of telling and again I don’t want to overread things and make a big deal out of it than it was but when he was um in it was the scorers room or that little bit where the camera was already in the pro team bar that kind of image has gone a bit viral of him with his kind of hat half up and His Hands his hands on his waist he looked absolutely broken and you know you can understand why he just three puted the last hole and and you you’ve lost a championship yeah two puted the last sorry two puted the last hole missed missed a small um no was it where CH sorry yeah sorry he chipped on and then he missed that put that’s going to have an effect and when it was such a such a moment that I think feror he’s the kind of player I think if he does win another major then it unlocks a key and he just can win so anymore but will he get that next one that that might have been his biggest chance honestly if someone had said to me before this weekend that Rory will never win a major again and I could bet on it I’d be like no way like what like that no way I’m going to bet on that like there’s now it’s kind of like is he going to win it what I think we almost think sometimes with the majes because there’s four year and obviously if a players fit they might play another 10 15 years there’s so many chances but as I’ve said before there’s always New Kids on the Block there’s always one guy who plays amazing there’s always these kind of guys who consistent they’re always up there you have to obviously be firing an all cylinders against the best field having the best week ever and everything you go in your way and if you’re in that spot on still like no way scottty she would have missed that put I don’t know it’s interesting and and again when you look at this list of major championships and I know he depends on what you measure off if you just going off majors and this is the list you have to go off but if you look at the list on some like a Wikipedia of the names who’ve won the most Majors the Jack Nicholas is the Tigers the Ben Hogan the Gary players Tom Watson etc etc it kind of feels like that’s where I mean maybe I’m speaking it’s my generation but where Rory deserves to almost live with Phil Mickelson with Nick Faldo both six-time major Champions if Rory doesn’t get any more Majors then he’s not sitting with those guys he’s not at that table I mean is he tied now is he tied with um uh Brooks Brooks got five Brooks has beaten him oh God CU that was the big thing obviously in Netflix was it he’s tied with Ernie El’s now maybe it’s my era although I remember obviously Ernie El’s massively and was a big fan I would people might shoot me down for this I would class Rory as being a more of a legend than Ernie El’s personally maybe it’s the ride to cut below my vision Etc I think I think that’s a fair I think from for influence on the game I think that’ be fair well if you’re going off major championships it’s a they’re both on four wow and even if you’re going off on again I know seevi was before our time absolute legend of the game seevi is on five so seevi has obviously got more Majors one more Majors as did obious Nicholson on six falo on six trino on six I mean these are absolute Legends don’t get me wrong but that is the kind of place where it feels like Rory you know when he does and he might well he might win another four another 10 hope he does but it doesn’t really feel like he’s where he should be right now you know what’s mad just looking at the stats here obviously Jack Nicholas is is famous for winning 18 and and this stat has been thrown around loads but some more interesting ones Jack Nicholas has has come second 19 times yeah Phil Mickelson 12 times crazy Arnold Palmer 10 times Sneed eight times Greg Norman eight times Tom Watson eight times tager Woods seven times it’s like you look at you’ve got to come you you’re going to come second a lot absolutely if you are contending you’re going to come second a lot it’s just at the moment it feels like Rory is coming getting too many close calls and not enough and also I think it’s the fact of the length between wins as well and also if would have had Le so he’s obviously not won now for 10 years a major but he has been obviously competitive and he’s been at the top of his game for the most of that 10 years since had some obviously slightly weaker spells but at least every out of the four maor of the year he’s come top 10 in at least one every single year and obviously the some years he’s come in well 2022 came top 10 in all four majors other years he’s came top 10 in three or two whatever so he’s been there and thereabouts it that’s the weird thing imagine if he’d won four majors like he has done but those four majors have been spaced out a bit more yeah every three years he wins one yeah you’re like okay yeah he’s going to win he’s duw Royal mararo wins one in 12 Majors the fact he he’s not W one now in one in 40 and yeah and also if he’d have had that spell like he had but then he was injured God forbid or he just completely fell off form or something you’d kind of get it but he’s he’s been world number top five forever AR it yeah

Have you ever seen Harry stop Rory and say “Is this what you really want to do”. No! I haven’t. Yes it’s time for a caddy change!
Tiger will win before Rory.
In fairness Rory was chasing Bryson all weekend, if anything I think Bryson out played him, Bryson missed so many fairways yet was always able to grind it out, in a way he was out there like one of us, in the rough in the bunkers, lots of up and downs, with all that he still managed to keep his cool and to me makes him hands down the winner in terms of game play. Besides the putts Rory missed I think his biggest mistake of the weekend was using the driver off 18, caddy should have called him out on that, he just didn’t play smart enough once he took the lead, like he lost the plot.
Harry Diamond is a plus 4 hcap and a respected caddy on tour who esily get another bag . The problem is Macilroy doesnt listen , its why he sacked JP .
I think rory will regroup and win 1 or 2 more
Hate to say it cause I like him, but I don't think Rory has the mental fortitude to close out majors or even bigger tournaments anymore. His reaction to not talk to the press after this one and then not play at the Travelers tells me he is having trouble handling the pressure.
100% he will win one or more; he deserve it if it was just because he was part 2 of the best 'TV-golfpromotion from this and precious year, the battle with bryson, and the round with Michel Block amazing television
To win a Major today with the depth of fantastic golfers in the field is harder than ever and as good as Rory is everything will have to line up just right even down to being on the right side of the draw. I'm hoping he gets at least 1 more but if not he has had a fantastic career.
If he goes back to Titleist he will win more majors 🏌🏻
Mcilroy will win the British open 😎
Does the guy even have too win again? Hes accomplished alot already. So why is the constant blowtorch or pressure always applied? Why the obsession with wanting, yearning for a certain player to always win? Just let the bloke compete, take the pressure off and hell come through. The more pressure that ampunts, the more this guy will crumble. I say back off and and perhaps throw some attention on the nect generation of potential talent
Hopefully, Rory gets some perspective. He has won twenty-six tournaments on the PGA, four majors and wins on other circuits. He still has the game to win more. What a success story as it stands.
Typical hot take type stuff. He's young. He will play many more majors. Yes he has a huge monkey on his back, but he will win a few. Maybe a few big!
Rory isn't in Phil's league. Mickelson had to contend with primemTiger through most of his career. I undeerstand the hype on Rory as he is British and has talent beyond belief. But Mickelson is a level above Rory and nothing will change my mind.
Rory reminds me of Paddy and the Imports exit in the Rugby World Cup QF – more hype than substance.
NOPE!
Question – Tom Watson won 6 majors, how many majors did he play in during his full career? Come on lads, Rory has another 10 years of majors to play.
It's not the loss which is the worst aspect of this it seems. The way he left the event was completely disrespectful to everyone.
Rory will win majors again, he has at least 8 more years of being a great player, i think he'll end up on 6 or 7
Fleetwood?? Hes past it…never has a chance of winning in US
LOL…..blaming the caddy.
Sorry Rory Boys but he’s never going to win a major again. He has no mental strength.
Rory had his putter in fire in the beginning of the round. He looked like the better player all day. As a golfer, those pressure putts are where championships are won. Tiger makes those putts 100 out of 100 times. That’s honestly the only difference. Rory has an amazing driver. Good short game. Putter was working on Sunday but when it comes to clutch time, he plays less than his best. If you want to call that choking, it’s a bit harsh but factual. MJ, Tiger, Kobe, Brady were all really good players in the regular season but when it came time to perform in the 4th quarter or the 18th hole they performed BETTER. Rory is an all time great talent without the clutch gene. In all honesty, I don’t think I have it either. Most people don’t. When pressure builds up, most guys faulter. Makes me appreciate Tiger so much more.
I think the odds are definitely better than a "coin flip" that he will, but certainly not "in the bag" by any stretch. Ask yourself this, "Would you bet your life on it"? It's harder than ever to win even a "regular" tour event, and ten times harder to win a major. When you get to the status of a McIlroy, it's harder for him in many ways to win a major than a "regular joe" tour player because of the weight of expectations. There are dozens of "all time" greats who've only won 1, 2, or 3 majors, and there are several guys that have won "multiple" majors that are head scratchers. Andy North, and Lee Janzen are "two-time", yes you heard me right, two-time US open champions. John Daly won a US Open and an Open, Dave Stockton won two PGA's. Johnny Miller "only" won two majors, a US and an Open. Greg Norman won two Opens, that's it. Winning just a regular tournament now is almost like winning lotto, there are 100 or more great players every week trying to win, and there is not a lot of separation. If he doesn't get too down on himself and listen to all the doubters and the haters, I actually think he will win two more. He's too good not to. When he's right, he's still the best player in the world, and that includes Scotty Scheffler.
It would be awesome to see u do a 10 shot challenge with rory
No such thing as he "Should" win 8/9 majors etc. You win what you win, just like you score what you score. Ernie Els won 4 Majors / Seve 5 "Should" they have won more? Nope. Rick and this other guy love to think about what they SHOULD/COULD have scored not realising that is just fantasy. I shot 81 but with a triple I could/should have shot 78 BUT YOU DID NOT, you scored what you scored just as you win what you win, there is no SHOULD.
Seems like to win x majors you need to also be second x times too at least. So Rory with his 4 wins and 4 2nds has not right to believe he should have more majors as that is not reality of golf. To get 6 majors or two more he needs to contend to the last hole 4 more times
Sorry. But Tommy Fleetwood isn’t winning a major. Hope I’m wrong but he hasn’t got the stones.
