honestly it it was one bar I I you know we’ve talked about it loads on the podcast before we’re very much in the camp of the open and the Masters being the best major tournament so I think that’s fair to say yeah third place is the US Open for me without question this year’s US Open was far better than last year’s open correct I’ve said it well yeah you have and that’s fine I think for me though now I’m going to have a new mindset there’s four major championships obviously alluded to that and and beforehand I get very excited for the Masters in the open again you just you kind of alluded to that but actually each event can have relatively flatter potentially years and obviously can have other events that have an amazing year I think going forward I’m going to actually just look forward to them I’m going to try all equally and then see what happens because this week I was somewhat excited for it yet US Open I watched the back nine last night of obviously the final round and it was the most intense golf I think I’ve ever seen and the most invested I was for a long long time that’s my only gripe with this tournament right I actually found it hard to watch hard yeah and it’s I understand that because in one breath I am saying it was exciting it was fantastic it was amazing it really was but I found it hard to watch in a sense of the like my heart was like pounding for the majority of the bat nine like it was it wasn’t a comfortable nine holes playing austa the final round of the Masters like there you normally get someone bursting through the field shooting three or four under on the bat nine and going on to win US Open is known for being very very difficult Pine Hurst number two is known for being incredibly difficult certainly after all the changes a few years ago it was it was just an unner watch I just I could never really be comfortable I was constantly on the edge of my seat I was to Like Glue to it but also like wanting it to end however in that breath I also was desperate for it to be a playoff really I I really because you had there Rory maroy let’s be honest the spokesperson the main guy for the PGA Tour he is number one and when obviously you got Scott Sheffer but as a spokesman is someone who is so outspoken for the PJ tour he has really put his flag on the map of PJ tour mhm on the other side you have Bryson D Shambo not that long ago one of the most hated golfers on the planet I think that would be fair to say yeah how he’s turned people’s perception around to becoming one of the most loved golfers out on the US Open this weekend and obviously he’s a live player it’s like you had the two of them just going at it and it was it was electrifying but so uncom comfortable to watch cuz you’re not seeing birdies and Eagles you’re seeing who can not make a bogey and who can get up and down after missing the green I think the other thing is it’s so unnerving for me cuz I know playing in that situation they’re hitting these shots these horrible little chips and and just Dreadful shots I’m looking at and going I don’t know how they’re going to play this shot under this much pressure but they obviously did it was the putting mainly with obviously Rory Mao that let him down on on the 16th when he missed that short one on the 18th when he missed that short one it was like devastating I think I think before we come on to Rory we we have to talk about Bryon and obviously congratulate him um I think he’s doing a lot of things very well at the minute he seems to have really turned that public perception round of of people that weren’t liking him with obviously signing for Liv his YouTube channel is absolutely flying he seems to have loads and loads of Support over there his YouTube channel is flying he’s one of the most he’s I think he is the mo most watched YouTube golfer right now well and and how lucky we think about it that there’s a a professional golfer a professional sports person should to say who’s at the top of their game who’s just won what was you know a huge huge event one of the major championships who is putting himself out there on YouTube it is crazy and we are luying golf that people are doing that I love the headline that someone posted YouTube WIS US Open exactly and and I think as well his passion for YouTube he seems to be the kind of guy obviously with his long drive and his YouTube now and whatever it might be he gets behind things when he’s in he’s in um and the way he celebrated I mean that shot obviously on 18 that bunker shot was absolutely insane and then to whole the P obviously I it was a long put but that pressure as well was incredible and although Roy missed that very short put on 18 it felt like with with Bryson hitting that amazing bun shot that he won it as opposed to Rory losing it to a degree to a degree however I I do think we need to come on that in a moment but an amazing event and I think for Brighton now it’s there’s questions being asked of does that obviously really even more so solidify live that they’ve got another major you know another major in kind of their Arsenal I went on Liv’s social media this morning and they were massively shouting about Brighton winning as you’d expect um does that is it a dig is it a hit for the PJ tour I mean one thing I did see as well the US Open themselves they were massively actually collaborating with Liv on social posts so they were kind of embracing them um but it was it was a great event and it’s got me really excited for the open the only downside though I would say is it feels like the the majes are so cramped together that come in the middle of July that’s it and it’s like right you’re waiting to the Masters again April and April to July yeah the really it’s really really close together it is and um I mean like I say the the way he won he absolutely dominated it his Saturday round the golf was nothing short of extraordinary um orbe had a double bogy on the 17th from memory 17th 16th on uh on the Saturday um he didn’t have his aame on Sunday he ended up shooting was it one over his final round he was hitting driver everywhere on that final round because apparently about 15 minutes before his tea time he actually had to swap driver that well I saw the clip yeah I think the story of that and he and he spoke quite in depth to me about it when I was over in America with him at the end of last year he has he very much all to talk about buling roll on his driver and basically if a driver has been hit so hard so many times that bulum roll starts to flatten out for him and he doesn’t like it when his driver faces get too flat so it you saw him on just before he teed off he had that kind of um tool where he puts it on the driver face and it shows you bullding roll of the face and he must have been checking it and he mustn’t have been comfortable there is also rumors that it cracked but I’m not sure if that’s the case I think it’s just it flattened out too much for him so we had to swap drivers just 15 minutes before the tea time and he he couldn’t hit that driver straight at all it was either blocking right and when he did overw it he overdrew it he got Mega lucky on 16 when it went down that really tight angle jeez I mean that was like right on the edge he got very very very very fortunate in a lot of his lies in the rof I know if that was me I would have been in every bloody Bush and every under every plant I wouldn’t have been able to play the shots that he played out of those situations I actually thought Rory again I know we’re going to probably dive into win a bit more I thought his front line was was quite Dreadful really his iring plate he couldn’t hit a green but he was getting up and down from everywhere and then to to actually in his round of golf get to four on the par at one point for his round I was like how’s he done that and then to to lose it on those last four holes he had three Bogies in the last four holes which was honestly just heartbreaking um like said I feel like I’m switching between Bry Rory a bit too much here but like Bryson definitely won it without question obviously he had the lowest score his golf game was extraordinary his short game is outstanding his putting is just different level he really embraced the audience he he won over many many many fans Not only on site but also around the world watching on TV the fact that as he’s walking around with the trophy the US Open trophy he wanted every fan that was there present to touch it and and I think he stood up to that word he walked around through the crowds he was there for three three hours after he won it still signing Auto graph still signing Mak sure all the kids and one of the things he said in the podcast when I when I had him on in December was I asked him why you doing YouTube and his big answer was that he wanted to en um motivate and encourage the next generation of golfers he was doing that he was doing that there was kids that were watching him screaming his name telling him they they subscribe to his YouTube channel getting autographs getting selfies like that for me as as any Tor proos i’ I’ve possibly even ever seen I mean Michelson had that kind of vibe to him when he when he was at his most popular he was just embracing the audience so much and I think it’s really important for golf I think what what a great winner and before we mentioned about how feel like he won it rather than Rory lost it and kind of a weird one to say because I feel like if on that last hole Bryson made a very normal conservative par and he hit the Green in two and then two puts it would have very much felt like Rory lost it with his his tiny put that he missed on the last hole I think the fact that Bryson hit that such a amazing shut out the bunker and then hold up P I think that made me feel like he won it

He’s playing some great golf I don’t like how he plays but it’s effective. If that us open was at any other course he wouldn’t have won you can’t hit it all over the course and consistently miss fairways and win on a course with legit rough. Again he played well and did what he needed to do to win but his game isn’t golf and shouldn’t be rewarded for how far he hits it if he can’t hit fairways all the time.
Bryson has turned things around with his Youtube channel. It is very enjoyable and shows how he really is. Some say it is just a pr acting type of thing, but I don't think so. He loves golf. Have seen him on several Youtube channels. I am over the LIV hating thing. LIV is stupid and I would never watch one of their exhibitions. But the golfers who went for the money only are still great golfers and I am happy to watch the majors with them in it.
I laughed so hard when Rory missed his putt and the crowd was chanting USA. He looked like he wanted to cry 😂
bryson has helped change golf into the novelty version desired by those who own the novelty sport and sell overprice novelty equipment that has no place in tournament golf.
it has ruined the game by changing it from 'shot making' into 'bomb and gouge', with limited competition, since there are only so many gorillas who can hit 350 yard drives into the rough on every hole, leaving wedges to every green…
since when is that golf?
since the novelty club makers made a deal with the pga to alter the game…bryson is one of the few lucky benefactors of playing against a limited field on courses designed just for their novelty games.
when was the last time that a u.s open champion missed every fairway and won? twice now with bryson, since so few others could be competitive on the stretched out novelty courses. 500 yard par 4's…that's not golf, that's novelty golf, and it has reduced the game from real mastery of the swing, to something measured in meaningless metrics like, club head speed and ball speed.
who cares about ball speed…golf is about mastery of the swing as demonstrated by shot making ability, which was always measured by FAIRWAYS and GREENS in regulation.
Not a big fan of Rory BUT that was not an easy putt on 18. He could have 3 jacked it even from that short distance.
Bryson has become the modern era Arnold Palmer, with an army of fans, great crowd interaction, a ferocious competitive desire to win…not too mention serious power!
Heck Rick, I found that final round to be extremely intense…I could feel it through my television! Yes, the opposite of boring, lol!
Overpaid. Ultra wealthy. Nothing but snooz worthy. Yawn!!!!
The US Open was high drama
From Bryson's interviews, his videos with Youtubers such as Grant Horvat where he does goofy stuff like play in knickers with hickory clubs, and his interaction with fans on and off the course I think it's pretty evident that he's just a quirky and genuinely good person.
For me, at least, I kind of started rooting for him as a middle finger to the haters when he got all the crap during the Koepka "beef" and the LIV stuff. People shouting "Brooksie" when he hit his drives and junk like that and saying he was taking "blood money" (as though the PGA players don't endorse stuff made in sweatshops and companies that do billions in the Middle East). So at first I was just going against the grain, and I thought he was just interesting with his math and his equipment tinkering. But that has come around to rooting for him because I think he's just a really likeable guy and I think Karma should push the winds of fortune to someone like him over a spiteful puppet like Rory.
Rick, you are friends with Bryson but throwing that “shade” on him at the beginning. You know him, very nice guy. Approaches golf as most golfers do, just openly discussing what works for him and why. Not trying to get anyone to think it’s the only way. He celebrates everyone’s talent. Willing to help everyone out. That’s Bryson.
A nobody like Clark winning
Why is the video cutting off at 9:33?
as utterly devastating as the loss was for Rory, he needs to show gamesmanship. This is a gentleman’s game
I was not very excited for the US Open, and l even talked about it during the first round how borinn it was to watch, but it ended up being unbelievably exiting and so much fun to watch. I have always rooted for Rory, but l have become a big Bryson fan in the last few months so l was torn between those two. l was happy that Bryson won, but l felt terrible for Rory.
he can't have his cake and eat it too, takes blood money, we don't need him on the Olympic team.
I think most commentators have given up criticising LIV but some … and I am one, still see the money grabbing selfish attitude that is taking blood money from an evil murderous regime who are sportwashing their appalling record. So … great golfer buying success on the suffering of others.
Ive never disliked Bryson he said a few things yes ,,, but he has made good on them
What he does for golf is absolutely fantastic, people dislike something or someone from the norm.
the way he hits it and his all round game is top what is there to dislike ????
I'm sure if Rory had won Bryson would have shook his hand !
Ok, just sayin it happens all the time, for me If rory made those 2 short puts, he would of won! Bryson would of came in 2nd.
I’ve been a huge fan of Bryson since he turned pro. An absolute trailblazer playing the game his own way and ignoring the cynics. Then really got to know him through his YouTube channel and seems like an awesome dude. Don’t really care about the LIV stuff as long as he’s still playing majors. Just glad to see him tearing it up. Named my first son after him a couple years ago.
As an American, I think of the British Open as the 5th major after the Players Championship. Ugly, random golf played under the wind is trash.
Not enough talk about Bryson using COMPLETELY different equipment DESIGN than EVERYONE ELSE ! Does that make all the big manufacturers pushing similar equipment look stupid? And does it make all the other pros look like assembly line sheep?
Has Rick had his teeth done? The new Grant Horvat
Bryson got me into golf last year
You don’t change rules for any LIV player. Screw Bryson and all the players at LIV. A joke of a tour.
