Q.
If a player has interference with an immovable obstruction (e.g. artificial cart path) for a reasonable stroke when their ball is within the general area, then they are entitled to free relief.Since they are entitled to free relief, does this mean they are entitled to a good lie and area for their next stroke?
.
.
A.
No. The player is to find the NEAREST POINT OF RELIEF from the current condition they have interference from, NOT the Nicest Point of Relief. The relief is only for the condition that the player has interference from, and doesn’t include any other conditions that the player may have interference from. Once the player has the NEAREST POINT OF RELIEF, they can drop their ball within a club-length (longest club in the bag except the putter) of that reference spot.
Where a player has interference from two conditions, they can choose which condition to take relief from.
