[Music] hey everyone I’m Al kicks host of dogs By The Sword and newest clean AER and I am blessed to be here today with Cleveland Browns Legend three- Time pro bowler two time all proo cornerback hord Dixon thank you so much for taking your time Big Dog you are so welome I’m just so happy to do it uh everything I can do that that just glad to do appreciate it the T now talking about when you made it to the league obviously you had a really luxurious career obviously like I said three Pro bowls three times actually allo two time first team allpro one time second te on Pro so you had a luxurious career one of the greatest Cleveland round quarterbacks of all time now I’m really excited to ask you this question when I wrote this down I was like I really want to hear the answer from him on this one when you look at Emerson you look at War you look at Nome which dude do you really see yourself the most in play style wise because you know what are you 51 right 6ot Denzel Ward about the same height do you I mean physically I see the comparison there but out of those three play style wise who do you see yourself the most in I see um a little bit um I want to I want to say War but I was I was a very physical guy too I mean I would just like down I would get you not to say War doesn’t do that because he he does I I I would say I was pretty much similar to den in war especially with the uh ability to cover but I could also see it Ed Emerson Emerson uh because uh I mean he’s like I said he’s big he’s rangy I mean he’s not afraid he’ll jump in there and and then you got again go back to Newsome so uh that’s a tough question I I I didn’t really think about it that way but if I had to pick one of them I pretty much say award as a cover Corner both of you are outstanding but I think one of the most underrated things when we talk about this at war is him as a run Defender not only as a run Defender but just the ability to be able to tackle guys behind the line of scrimmage no matter what and just be a fierce tackler then I watch you yeah you were exactly the same way you were also an excellent run Defender so I think just both of you guys’ ability to you know be effective in the pass game and in the Run game makes you both great corners and I definitely see the comparison with him and you know with Emerson too but I want to talk about you and Frank Mini Field I what was that combination like what was it like playing with him and do you guys still Bond and you know talk about your playing days or you guys played together and actually made three straight P proos together yeah we really do uh he’s uh right now he’s living in Lexington I talk to him all the time we get together we play golf and uh we we go back and forth but it was just uh it was just great I he’s very cocky very uh confident guy in his abilities and what he can do uh the thing that made us so good is just we studied a lot our preparation um when we were out there on the field I mean you we probably knew what the wide receiver or what they were going to do on offense how they was going to try to attack us we knew that before uh they tried to attack us and um Frank and I what we were a to do is Frank would take one guy I would take the other one and we would pretty much tell the rest of the defense hey you guys don’t worry about these two we got them locked down we’re going to take care of them you guys just worry about everybody else and that’s the way uh it pretty much work I never I give an indication of that one we were playing a playoff game we were playing in Miami we were playing the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Dolphin used to have two I mean just great wide receivers a guy by the name of Mark and Clayton and they I’m talking about they were just badass wide receivers and uh I think in that game I think they probably uh caught uh one pass and we didn’t win the game but still um uh we pretty much shut those two guys down but it was disappointing that we lost the game what Pride do you take as being you know probably one of the greatest Duos in Cleveland Browns history from not even just a cornerback standpoint but just from any position well you know I hear people talk about that and then you know um I think they have us rated as the number two best cornerback tandems in the league I think number one was Lester Hayes and Mike haes who were also very very close friends of mine which were uh uh great cornerbacks and uh I hear you talk about the Pro Bowl and all that stuff I think it was 32 off whatever should have been more than that but I will I will get into you had a year where you had five picks and you not make make it was it was crazy but that’s all right I mean it’s just uh sometimes you just roll with it you know how you played and you know how good you were but Frank and I again we took a it it was we took a lot of pride in in in what we did how we did it and uh whenever we were going up against uh uh the opponent I mean we took a lot of Pride on being ready and fact but again the key for us was just preparation man I mean soon as the game was over when we play a game on that Sunday uh if it was a way game we immediately on the playing back we watching film of the opponent that we had to play the following week trying to get ready for that opponent and and that’s what took us over the top and obviously you got to have talent too but with the talent and that preparation is what did you know it’s crazy that we talk about you two as a Duo because you look at the current day Cleveland Browns you know that’s a prolific group of quarterbacks too with Ward Nome and erson I just to know what you think of those three guys and whats do you see in their room compared to you know you and Frank’s quarterback yeah when you and see the thing about these guys uh this team uh and not to say anything bad about our defensive line I mean our our defensive line was was good those guys gave us everything they wanted we had two All Pro outside linebacker and playay Matthews and Chip Banks uh we had big daddy Harrison and some other guys on the defensive line but we never had that that dominant pass rusher like they have they got a guy like miles Garrett and uh the Darius and guys like that who really can get out the quarterback and as a quarterback that can make you do a lot of things make you take a lot of chances because you know the quarterback is not going to have a lot of time to throw the football but talking about those guys I like them I mean I really like them uh uh Ward um I I I think it’s one of the best uh have a little problem uh staying healthy but other than that when he’s on the field I mean he’s just a locked down corner I I was so like Emerson because Emerson is a dog I think Emerson went to came from I this came us from Miss State I want to say and uh the thing about him he’s big he’s rangy I mean he’s not afraid he understands that uh he’s not going to win every battle but he’s back in there in their face and and and and he’s a dog out there I like about it and new some he could play pretty much anywhere in that secondary I mean we have it a lot in the slot but I agree with you 100% with those three guys I mean they are uh they are just an awesome awesome group they’re they’re locking everybody down and I like the way they styling the way they play defense obviously you now have a defense that has returning a lot of the same players from last year all around do you think the Contin that this defense now has is going to you know take it to another level or allow them to maintain the dominance they had last year I think our defensive line overall I think those guys are pretty pretty sharp and pretty dominant because I’ve always said the game of football is controll on the offensive and defense line of scrimmage when you got those guys up front and they’re really getting after it and they’re controlling that line of scrimmage that’s when you uh uh beat up on a on on an offense or a defense and that’s where uh that defensive mind is really really strong and allows everybody in that secondary secondary to maybe take some more chances do some things that wouldn’t ordinarily uh do but uh I I think this defense is going to be a top 10 defense I think it’s going to play like a top 10 defense and I think uh last year uh I think they’ learned something from uh going on the road and playing uh on the road and I think they’ll be much much better this year we talk about Deshawn Watson and like where we want to get with the off and the defense combined when we talk about benchmarks and where we want to see this team at the end of the year where do you think we should see the bronze at the end of the year in order for ourselves to really feel good about where they are as a franchise and being able to win now it doesn’t necessarily mean you got to get to the Super Bowl this year and win it this year but how far do they have to advance for you to really feel good about where they are especially with how much money they have put into this roster I I I think what we have to do we don’t just have to get to the playoffs I think we have to uh we have to win a playoff game and possibly get to the uh championship AFC Championship game I think that’s where um The Benchmark is set with this football team right now because as you as you mentioned we’ve spent a ton well Jimmy and D asler have spent a ton of money out there and they’ve done everything that Barry has pretty much asked of them to improve this roster the roster is there the roster is set now we just have to go out and do it those guys can’t just uh can’t just show up this year they have to like you said they have to win football games and I think we will win football games the only thing that’s going to be tough again uh you know I talked about it is that AFC North I mean Baltimore is there every single year Baltimore is kicking them themselves because they lost a big game against Kansas City and they lost it at home and uh but uh Lamar Jackson and and that and Company I mean they are going to be tough and again the Pittsburgh Pittsburgh I mean Tomlin I mean what can you say about it I mean this guy just keep winning and winning and winning so it’s going to be interesting to see but the answer your question is we don’t just have to get to the playoffs we got to get there we got to win a game or two and I think if we do that I feel really really good about this for you’re popular around Cleveland you’re famous around here you’ve been around here for a while you know in your playing days you do media here now I just want to know you know what does Cleveland mean to you what’s kept you around really well it’s really funny I mean obviously I came here uh in 881 I was uh which you know I was the first round draft pick of the Browns and uh I was coming from a little small town outside of Moville Alabama a little place called theore Alabama and um when I was watching the draft uh I get a phone call from Mark Modell saying that uh he’s going to draft me uh you have mix of motion here it’s just uh snow snow all the time not all the time in the winter time so I said okay uh I’m going to come here and I’m going to gut this out but uh uh I came here I just love the city it’s just a hardw workk in town blue c town and U and it’s funny I didn’t really want to come here but now that you guys here you can’t uh you can’t get rid of me now I’m just uh you stuck with me so as I can say but I love Cleveland I mean I’m really do I you know I just love everything to stand for and since I’ve been here I’ve really not obviously I’m a Browns fan but I’ve become a uh it was Cleveland Indians at the time and now it’s the Cleveland Guardians and also the
