and welcome back to the Rick Shields Golf Show podcast episode 248 for the first time ever I’ve inted it because Rick what were you doing I was actually texting my wife back to be fair about what more important than this podcast uh she forgotten the password for the laptop the and the Pod the we can’t say out loud the password for that laptop if not mistaken is very easy it’s I’ve redone it okay it’s a brand new Rick 123 hi everybody uh that was the first time guy it was smooth as well one take one take my my whole life has led to that moment I’ve done in the mirror every morning for last four fairly five years now one day it will be my time I always ped it in episode 333 for some reason there you go but it wasn’t it 248 well you might as well Count Your Chickens y just in case we don’t get to either of us um welcome everybody welcome back to the podcast it’s been a bit of a a chaotic day we normally just to give everyone a little bit of insight behind behind the scenes we normally film the podcast relatively early in the morning y uh Monday morning we’ll come in about 98 have a meeting then we’ll do a podcast around about kind of half 10 11 but today it’s the afternoon because we decided to do some emergency hit filming this morning because very dedicated to the cause last Friday you went to Costco I did and you picked up if I’m not mistaken the first not one but two boxes of the brand new Kirkland Signature irons so today we unboxed them I did a review on them and we’ve got another box to give away in a video coming soon that video though lad to absolutely editing the fingers are on fire as to get that edited edited ready for a release this week I um had a tip off that we can’t can’t name who told me that Costco were getting a delivery of the irons very very soon so went a couple of days with nothing on Friday strolled in they were the I couldn’t believe my eyes there was not a single set taken so you’re right I boxed two of the sets I picked them up hand in hand it was quite heavy actually I didn’t get a trolley and I walked around with two boxes of clubs some new balls and some gloves thought why not let’s get full Costco and it was hard to carry by the end of it I was sweating U and I saw someone must watch the videos hi guy I said hi yeah and I was near the golf stuff with the clubs in hand so he got he got the world’s first exclusive insight into what’s coming next um at the people listening will not notice this people watching might have a little noticed that you don’t appear to be moving in the same manner you normally move guy you so quite kind of loose free flowing your shoulders Rock back and forth your head moves a bit like a chicken but today none of that I’m stiff as a butcher dog doesn’t make sense doesn’t make sense when to be fit as a butcher do I’m I’m stiff right stiff as a board is the description stiff as a board you uh you’ve done a neck injury and it’s very bizarre cuz every I like you’re almost moving your stool to I’m in the perfect yeah in the gym this morning not doing anything remotely heavy my neck just went and now it’s absolutely killing so I’ve got to move the sh is actually perfect for this cuz I can just Swizzle but it’s killing it’s really really really sore ouch don’t want any sympathy but just ah that literally just even then shrugging kills I don’t sympathy but ah it’s really s you’re being a big grown-up boy and you’ll get a lollipop and a sticker after this after you do the podcast for getting through it and hopefully speedy recovery guy um say a bit more like meaning than that I so brushed over so light your neck a it hopefully you’re well soon and you don’t die too later it was was like if someone rang into a radio show and uh get well soon guy from sellens thanks so much get wle yeah it is so but on that’s the negative out of the way Rick the positive is today we’ve said this before I’m sure we’ll say it again it’s arguably too much of a a jam-packed ram packed bump episode of the Rick Shields Golf Show podcast there’s a lot to talk about there was a lot of golf this weekend there was arguably too much golf I was glued to one event and I think it’s the event that people don’t expect it to be let let’s go through the first event that you probably weren’t glued to okay I don’t think it would have been PJ tour a memorial I was Loosely watching it because I was rooting for Scotty Sheffer to win because he’s just the absolute dominant Force he did win but I wasn’t really watching watching it if I’m being honest we’ll come back to the event then you were watching let’s talk about Memorial first what what is this guy doing he’s won five times this year mhm and the weeks when he wasn’t winning either his wife had had a baby or the other week he didn’t win he got arrested yeah and he still came what was it in that one top five something I mean he’s what I actually watched a lot of the final round and I think the commentator described it perfectly when Scotty Sheffer puts okay he only just wins yeah when put Scotty ke Z Scotty Sheffer puts really good he wins by a mile and when he doesn’t put well he finishes in top 10 I mean what is thisy honestly five wins this year including the Masters the players memoral uh I think there’s one more uh Harbor toown what’s the other one that he won Bay Hill he win Bay Hill as well this guy he well he only wins the big ones don’t he it was interesting this so this morning you’re right obviously I’m sure everyone listening knows now that you we won he’s an absolute dominant Force he’s the undoubtable world number one he’s the undoubtable best player since tiger I think we’ve got to say that obviously he’s got to do it over a longer term to to really even be in that conversation with tiger genuinely but right now what we’re seeing is in three seasons he’s won 11 11 times well this is what this is what comes on very nicely so I’m sure a lot of people watching listening know that obviously when you think of Scotty sheffler you may think beard now you may not think beard he’s kind of in between at the moment he’s kind of Shaving It Off get a bit of stubble I think you should keep the beard Just For What It’s Worth but he’s obviously got the big Nike Swoosh front and center he’s a Nike athlete Nike Ambassador and he’s also well known for being a tailor made player as well and you’ll see him a lot in the tailor made videos the famous one where was asking tiger how he didn’t take divots Etc and they utilizing very well but one thing this morning it’s perfect for the podcast that came on um my desk should say an email I got was from tit from footjo so we get for people listening and watching we get emails all the time of all the brands with press releases when they have new product launch etc etc and also when they nego about things they pay these guys a lot of money so when these guys on tour win or do well they want to shout about it naturally the email today from tit list and FootJoy says good morning very pleasant pleased find this week’s tit list tour report so we’re going to come on to a new tit Club in a moment but before we get on to that it then said sorry the title of the email was world number one continues to place trust in pro1 golf ball and vogi wedges and it says the memorial Champion earns fifth victory of 20 24 an 11th career PJ tour title with the prov1 and vogi wedges now they can do all that without saying his name they can’t name who that person is because I’m guessing they don’t pay Scotty Sheffer and therefore don’t have his name and likeness however they can obviously say world number one it doesn’t take a genius to work out who that person is and it got me thinking Rick Taylor Made pay obviously got his shaffle of Fortune and he’s using their driver and they’ll be shouting about it today as well that he won will they be peed off that they are trying desperately to beat down the the door of the professional golf and and the golf ball market and take some of that crust off Titleist and their best player by a country mile isn’t using the tailor made golf ball or wedges of course it’ll it’ll really frustrate him but the thing for them how many people actually know that a lot more now we just told him well yeah yeah but I think the general public he’s got a he’s got a tail made tour bag obviously Nike don’t doesn’t allow him to wear tailor Med anywhere but you can see him using a qi1 drive tailor Med ions there was actually a lot of close-ups yesterday cuz he narrowly missed the hole when he hes puts you can’t tell it’s a tight list when he misses puts you can tell it’s a tight list because once the ball stops rolling that’s when you can read it and what part of your of his game would you say he’s improved recently is putting and he was using a Scotty Cameron and he’s now using a tailor made putter so they could argue they’re going to be even more Chu with that that it’s fixed his putting obviously a lot of work going on with Phil Kenyan and Stuff Etc but it’s an interesting one that these players now are have these massive massive deals but still a certain part of the game are you the ball or wedges just won’t change yeah I mean f and also genuine question right now and you’re right they I’m sure if if he wants to move into the ball or the wedges obviously they’ll be there in Open Arms did he want to upset the apple C no like imagine imagine just for a minute he does move to tail and make golf ball okay they make a big song and dance about it which they will do of course and then he goes on and has a terrible rest of the year what are you going to blame that’s what I mean like he he has to either naturally do it himself he has to fall out of form and then make a change he can’t make a change now no he if he changed anything now it’d be it it’ be ridiculous to do so um I mean it gives me and I know you use a prov1 it gives me trust that the world number one’s using a Prov one and it’s like it’s nice to see him doing it and um it’s it’s fascinating the the media hype around Scottish effer at the moment and certainly like I say I don’t think it’s a massive um not everyone in the world knows about what what ball Etc he’s using like say you just exposed it a little bit on the podcast but for me he is becoming one of the most dominating players that’s ever existed in our lifetime really we can ask you a question that’s been asked on the Facebook group so Peter Garcia has said and this links on to the other event that was on this weekend what do you think he’s better having eight different winners of the last nine on the live tour live live golf or having a player like Scotty Sheffer who is dominating the PJ tour what is more entertaining and interesting I’m I think people read it wrong a few months ago I’m I am a big Scotty Sheffer fan and as much as I did accuse his game of being a bit boring when you see him on a really really tough course this weekend I mean he had a triple bogey on the Saturday on the ninth hole hit went out of bounds Straight Out of Bounds and made a triple bogey but when you see him around the golf course like that and the up and down he made on the last as did colara like you look at these guys like they’re absolutely unbelievable I mean he really does not have a weakness in his game and and you could have a few weeks ago or months ago last year you said put him but now he’s fixed that with the the help of Phil Kenyan and I’m sure uh he’s built so much confidence and using the malet putter which Rory M mooy recommended him to use what a foolish thing for Rory to Crazy um and you see him play that dominating like I’m I’m loving seeing him play every single event thinking Scottish is going to win this well I remember in the tiger era when he was so dominant I loved I was a huge Tiger fan still am I’ve said that many a time and and I’m loving seeing Scotty Sheffer being so dominant I think the sport needs it and we’ve got in the female game as well OB with Nelly cord when you have these such dominant forces I think it makes for great stories however I also know some people do get bored when there’s somebody winning all the time however I think what people do get bored of more than one person winning is when events aren’t close because if there’s somebody winning every week by 10 shots soon it was point of you watching you’re watching who comes second however I think this week obviously won by a single shot so it Mar cow who who did come second is in a great run of form I think as long as other guys who are competitive and are pushing him I don’t think people have an issue with him winning every week as long as they’ve still got a good product to watch and enjoy so I would have loved to have seen a playoff last night I was out really kind of hoping that um not scottty missed but I was I was hoping it was going to be a playoff cuz I really do enjoy playoffs anyway um on a side note mfield Village which is Jack Nicholas design and obviously it’s Jack’s event that seems like one of the hardest golf courses in the world it does I honestly I mean Scott sh shot two over yesterday there was quite literally a handful of golfers under pie yesterday K and I’m not calling him out and listen I would I I don’t think I would break a 100 potentially around this golf course or or at least 90 even someone like Shane Larry shot an 85 round there yesterday wow he was 13 over par and but the reason why I wanted to get to this point there he has quite a lot of CR I mean I don’t think anyone really criticizes Nicholas for the design of the golf course it’s Jack Nicholas and you’ve got to respect him I think if anyone else designed that Golf Course he’d get absolutely it’ get shredded borderline is almost too difficult like they’ve almost he’s made it so so unbelievably challenging the greens are like Billy of tables you can’t hold the ball on there I mean for him he likes seeing golfers make par rather than going shoot 15 under you know what I mean so uh it’d be amazing video to film there each and every year he makes changes and and adapts the golf course Justin Rose who we obviously had on a few weeks ago spoke about how it was his first victory at mfield Village he had a bit of a stink this weekend bless Justin I hope I’ve not normally we we you’ve neged him normally we positively Jinx golfers um Justin had a little bit of a imagine if that became a thing The Shield’s curse well you film with someone and the next week they play badly well dead last was Ricky Fowler oh no let’s not advertise this cuz we we won’t get any more to Bros on the channel ever again um but yeah I think it’s uh it’s we’ll have to just get Scotty shefer on CU then that would obviously that would even the playing field if we broke his curse though imagine if like we get Scotty on and then suddenly he doesn’t win for the next five years but we get a great video so I’m not bothered but no you’re right and then obviously we had the PJ Tour on big event as you said one of the Marque events this weekend was also live golf hence the question from Mr Garcia Peter Garcia I can’t remember his name and you was Garcia Serio um from Peter Garcia and caros Ortiz won that event Adrian Moran was up there as well who obviously took the plunge he didn’t make the rer cup left the EP World Tour for live that looks like it’s paying off that would be a big paycheck for this weekend Patrick Reed was in third place but I’ll be honest I didn’t watch um much of the live event this week you look at the leaderboard it’s pretty close pretty tight um when you look at the leaderboard I’ve got kind of mixed feelings because you look at the live leader board and you have obviously got Patrick Reed up there Masters champion Sergio Garcia Masters champion grey McDow major winner was it US Open grey mcdal W Brooks kepco was up there in the top 10 Casey so you’ve got some of those names you I think he’s won a couple of Majors grey mcdal I’ve had him as one oh I’m going to have I’m not saying I’m right though definit got I’ve got a signed flag from him from the US Open won and it was at Beth Page US Open 2010 that it yeah I mean I’m saying that it is that it you s in the presence of a couple of Club champ I was going to say Club Championship winers I’ve never won a Club Championship I’ve never won a junior Club Championship but I did in 2005 win the Hufford Golf Club junior order of Merit so take your US Open and shove it wherever you like to um but yeah it was obviously a relatively competitive event but I didn’t this week feel compelled to watch that really because I got my golf fix Rick from the DP World Tour did you watch any of the live stuff I I did actually um I think again because it’s condensed into a sh time frame you can kind of dip in and out of it where I felt like for the PJ I was like right I’m going I’ve got to commit to the b nine of the PJ and really watch it and I did and I really enjoyed seeing Scott shuffler kind of almost stumbled to some degree over the line but got the job done um we live I feel like I can like jump in give it kind of half an hour and then jump back out and then a few hours later might jump in for another half an hour because it’s in that smaller window yeah I think where it was very interesting this week and I’d I’d absolutely love to know more stats about this because they were both on a very similar time zone this this time around with the PJ tour at Memorial and obviously the live at Houston is actually how did that affect the viewing figures a lot because you H I think you had to make a choice this weekend where other weekends where there’s been Liv and PJ on because let’s say when liver playing in Australia there you don’t have to make a direct choice you can watch both if you choose to do so um but yeah watch watch the bits um it was fascinating that uh toi is that the right pronunciation is it I I thought it was torque but is it t t that’s not in okay torque or t last year won three team tournaments and had no individual wins this year they’ve had three individual wins and no team wins so that was quite interesting and cleaks end up taking Victory um which is kind of the very man mature team I suppose Richard Bland is on a bit of a tear at the moment he’s he’s taken the victory he has done well and he’s the right thing let’s be honest Someone Like Richard Bland has has timed his win at the British Masters impeccably and he’s done incredible ever since that cuz his bank balance has probably God I wouldn’t like to guess his bank balance how much that’s xed by since joining live lot um after however many years on DP will tour or European tour as it was back then um but going on to European tour it was a or DP World Tour it there was a fascinating event on uh which I believe that’s the event you really put your heart and soul into this weekend could go as far as heart and soul Rick but I definitely watched it and and it was for a weird reason actually so I kind of I’m always intrigued by the the mixed event because it’s something that you know we’re constantly thinking how can we make something the DP World Tour different how how do we get more people watching it how do we make it feel innovative I think to have the the the best female golfers and the best male golfers from from the European tours essentially DP World Tour and let playing together it’s definitely unique it’s definitely interesting and I kind of kept a rough eye on it not not too much then on Sunday as at my mother and father-in-law and my wife and a little girl what and and the golf came on and I was explaining to my my father-in-law about he doesn’t really watch golf about obviously the scoring system and as explained it was a mixed event different but at the time um Seb Soderberg hadn’t off yet and I believe at the time he had an eight shot lead going into the final round so naively I kind of explained how it was essentially a done deal unless he play horrendously he’s going to win the event and and and kind of explaining that and and that was that really watched a little bit of it and didn’t think much of it and later on in the afternoon I decided to put the golf on to to watch what I thought was going to be him walking down the stretch winning and it’s easy and I’d noticed his lead declined and he was I can’t remember the exact number a couple ahead at this point Ling Grant had finished had a great round she shot 65 she was in the club house and I thought right okay he’s still going to win but it’s he’s he’s he’s really going to be feeling it now because that margin of Victory is going to be getting smaller and smaller and smaller and then we get to the final couple of holes and he gets on to 18 again I’m sure a lot of people listening and watching will have seen this he basically had to bogy the last to get into a playoff or par it to win the event hits his t-shot down the middle good t-shot put it into the bunker so he’s now get to it up and down to win it’s a bit of a buried lie put it 30 foot past wasn’t a great shot you’re thinking right well two put here for I lit watch thinking two puts he’s in the playoff bit more golf to watch he hits the put to like two and a half three which by the way would have been a fascinating play an awesome playoff he then put the ball to about two foot away I was talking to my family CU they were around as I heard on them react I thought it was a done deal he’d missed the put as I’m sure everybody seen it lips out comes right back does a 180 on him it’s a horrendous stroke as well and he he loses the event and and what’s crazy here is you know couple of things we know what pressure can do to people and obviously you shot five over pass 77 uh Lynn Grant finish he had a 65 so the difference before they teed off was 12 shots Madness but if you look at his rounds he actually shot in that tournament he’s gone 63 66 66 someone that is shooting those kind of scores in a DP world event is obviously an incredible incredibly talented golfer an amazing golfer who you could argue and probably should argue you should have gone on to win the event he he had one bogey in the first three rounds that’s crazy to then go out and essentially crumble with such a lead it was it was horrible to watch but yet fascinating and for Ling Grant I actually watched quite a bit of Ling Grant through I saw some bits throughout the week C didn’t massively watch loads but watch a swing is phenomenal some of the IR shots she hit were phenomenal for her to win I thought was a great story and it really maybe for some of the wrong reasons admittedly but it highlighted an event that kind of I’ll be honest left me wanting a bit more kind of did intrigue me and it was something that maybe intrigued me because is different if it was every week would have watched probably not but certainly more often I think I’d be Keen for something like that well she ended up shooting a 60 like I say 65 to win she chipped in on the last as well to actually win and she must have felt like she was never going to be actually she’d never done enough like she’d gone out that final round gone doesn’t matter if I shoot a 65 today there’s no chance I’m going to win this tournament and for it to actually win it um both from swed Sweden obviously was the event was actually taking place at Sweden in Sweden as well so two homegrown talents um I feel bad for the guy I do from from what I believe he missed a short put early in the round and then missed a lot of short puts for the rest of the round he obviously must have some kind of nerves on the short puts which again listen I’ve had in the past it’s pry awful um got a question for you was his lead too big and the reason I used that is because and Lead can never be too big I know but one of your um you’d often made in the 10 shot challenges against some of the Tor Pros is that you almost start what feels like too far ahead and if you make a bow G on oh I’m still nine ahead another B still eight ahead and before you know you’re like oh no I’m two ahead now or I’m losing definitely so with him being I think he was eight ahead of the second place when he teed off bizarrely was that do you think maybe too much mentally yeah it definitely puts you in a weird mindset normally you obviously go out to go and shoot the best score you possibly can but when you’ve got such a demanding lead and like like you said when I’ve done these 10 shot ches Against tour Pros like making a double double on the first doesn’t seem that bad no she like I’ve just made a double like so what I’ve still got you know eight shots to play with but soon you do that you make a couple of other Bogies and before you know it you’re like oh God where’s my 10 shots gone and it is a different mindset it’s it’s a naivity you’re almost you feel like you’re cruising and then suddenly you go oh crap and then and if you notied a lot of these 10 shot challenges how much better I play on the bat nine because I’m like hold on a minute I need I need to start playing golf here a bit more so potentially an eight shot lead was listen I’m sure he wouldn’t change it I’m sure he’d want to put himself back in that position again and learn from it but um it it is a crazy crazy mindset to have because you do feel like you can’t just push play your normal round of golf cuz you know the odds on him shooting another sub 70 round would have been pretty strong gone 63 66 66 Sur even if he shot three worse and shot 69 he was still absolutely dominated and won it by by a country mile uh hopefully recovers cuz it that must really affect your confidence and you you know the way you think about your golf game moving forward he’s obviously incredible talent and I I really just hope that he uh he has a a bit of a a chill out now and gets back on the horse and hopefully takes a victory pretty pretty quick with yeah with I agree with that format then obviously the men were playing the golf course I believe at like 7,300 yards give or take and the women were about 7,000 sorry 6,300 so roughly around a, yards difference which kind of feels about right but I suppose if this kind of format does have a level of success it’s something they look to implement more that’s something I’d kind of wonder how does that get monitored because when if you look at the leaderboard actually it was as far as I know let me get this correct it was pretty spread out between the male and female golfers there was a time I think it was after round three it was very heavy the males in the top few and then it kind of feels like it’s equaled out a bit more now but I suppose if they did this another golf course and it ended up being that the women were all in the top 10 and you could then argue well maybe they had a better the way the te’s were for them the course played easier or whatever it guess it’s quite a tough balance to work out how do they set up the course to give both guys and girls kind of a the same Golf Course obviously the different distance has been played by the men and the women well in the top 10 there was there was six men and four women so that’s pretty yeah I’m sure when I looked on Saturday cuz they got a little red and gray bits next the name I’m sure there was just one I think that might have just been Ling Grant don’t quote me on that but it was very very male dominated and now it’s kind of equaled out a bit um but yeah it was interesting Keen to see how that could could work further whether that’s Liv could Implement whether that’s something the PJ T Implement whether that’s how team golf could be you know whether there was two men two women or whatever it looks like it’s certainly something that gives you kind of food for thought there’s a bit of did did you see the story with Olivia Cowan yes so we’ve had olivy on the channel before where actually CAD for her when she was preparing for a ramco series event over here in the UK at Centurion and her boyfriend Todd I want to say to Clement was playing in the same event and the final round they just had coincidentally they shot three rounds and the score was level with each other and they actually end up playing with each other on the final round they did play with each other as actually said to a bishop sorry I can’t I couldn’t help it but he I think he shot a 65 did he or something he shot something he went low he shot she shot 72 I’m sure he shot 65 or and they were saying like he’d be like ribbing it for that um cuz he absolutely went crazy crazy careful the anyway we move topic um Rick can I tell you something uh we have got this week in the podcast an amazing giveaway with your friends the open and the RNA and the one clubs a lot of your friends in there so I’d like to rank the RNA the open and the one Club as your priority they have to it’s like name my favorite child yeah you do that all the time I do actually but it it switches all the time okay well should we go RNA is number one because the RNA the Royal and ancient is it though is it the open or is it the one Club I think it have to be the open okay so the open’s number one the only because the open like when you actually think about even even all those words like the RNA the one club and the open it’s really all the open in it to a degree the RNA host the am Championship the women’s AIG they do yeah they’ve got they’ve got a few strings in the bow they um yeah I feel this it’s getting very very close about now 6 weeks away from the Open Championship Royal TR not here at Royal TR in the UK at Royal we will be going in the next few weeks which we’re excited about we were supposed to go last week and actually play some golf with a former open Champion but unfortunately got that got rearranged uh and maybe even canceled and never happening but either way it would been quite exciting but we’re going to go there very soon play some golf at R true and of course I’ve not played yet so I’m excited but to answer you question I cannot answer between the three but for me the open is the one well I will tell you why the one club is my favorite rcks the one club for those who don’t know many of you will know many of you will be members is a freeo jooin membership that offers members year round benefits do you like a year round benefit or you more of a six-month benefit kind of guy I I like benefits that just keep giving the gift that keeps giving well that’s what the one Club luckily for you gives so it’s unrivaled competitions and money can’t buy experiences live golf from not one Rick not two not three not even four from five RNA championships this summer including the open and the AIG Women’s Open the very best non-live content from the RNA including uh amazing archival serieses and the Rick Shields battle golf starring who Rick me yeah I was in that one Mom that’s one I was in there are 1.4 million golfers and golf fans who have joined the one club and it’s your time to be part of the golf of golf’s biggest fan communities so the one club. Golf website is the home of member benefits I head over there you can join for free so the one Club has brought us this amazing prize Rick and the prize is a pair of tickets for the 152nd open and the winner can pick the day nice what day would you go Sunday you’re going to say to watch the winner win Sun Sunday but I must Adit something very nice about watching it on TV on a Sunday not going to lie a Friday I like a Friday a little bit of a pain in there maybe well just a Friday you’ve got all the players there mhm so let’s be honest if you want to see Tiger Woods you’ll see them on Friday correct if you say Sunday you might not see him there’s no guarantee so you go Friday you have a little bit of an early Dart leave work early you got you can leave work probably on Thursday do you I mean you got trouble up there then go on the Friday you got a bit of a chill out there on the on the Saturday getting back home listening to on the radio Sunday you watch it back on TV like I was there I st in that corner that’s where that’s that that’s that Hospitality that I nearly got kicked out of yeah you can do okay so we’re going to go on Friday if you win uh there’s also A500 V you to spend on the RNA shops there’s so much merch and apparel Etc on there you can just go crazy £500 is a lot of money it is it is really is also there you you’ll probably though let’s be honest add probably another £500 of your own money a grand an open merch or RNA merch generic merch because the gift shop is so fantastic oh wow that you you can’t £500 will go go a long way get your pack of teas but but you be like I’ve got to have that as well and every you know everyone will know you go into the open it’s like oh pick me up a heart pick me up a ballark pick me up a a flag and before you know it you’re another 500 deep correct not to put you off no absolutely you get 500 already included um and also arguably that this is a kind of a money count by prize an open pin flag signed by Brian Haron the champion from last year’s 1501 open at Royal Liverpool to enter this amazing competition you’re going to get two chances essentially you can enter now and you listen to this on the link that’ll be in the description of the audio podcast or in the description SL pinned comment of the video podcast and you’re also believe can do a little version of this on your Instagram as well and kind of another reminder people can enter but yeah it’s part of the one Club who obviously part of the open great website great competition great guys great prizes get involved get involved just just that simple really um Rick we said earlier on about um Scotty Sheffer using obviously a titlist golf ball and wedges as opposed to tailor made golf ball and wedges one thing we have seen some some images of now and you’ll be seeing in much more depth next week are the new Titleist drivers the GT2 and the GT3 I think it’s even a GT4 for the for the low spin I think they look phenomenal I like really really do look great and to be honest I really love the name GT has there never been a driver called GT there must have been it just feels too it like I know but it just feels like too good a name for for a driver company not to have it I could see you use one of them just cuz the name have you got in the back GT I got GT a GT2 three or four just GT is it g you’d be a two thing is when you know you’ve got a good driver a bit like M1 and M2 you didn’t have to say Taylor Made no did you correct and I feel like the um titless drivers it it potentially if they good they could just I’ve got a G2 a GT2 yeah I agree they look awesome they have again from the email we got earlier on off tight list they were saying about how Scotty shef didn’t name him had um one they also said that the GT drivers debuted at Memorial and 13 of the players made the immediate switch now I never know how I feel about that immediate switches is it something to brag about or not because you could interpret naturally as well it must be better or the more pessimistic side of me says well is it any different then if you got Tor Pros playing for the bread and butter is that what is that phrase yeah uh the crust own the crust pay off the mortgage etc etc these guys in the PJ paid off the mortgage they got 50 billion pound houses um they want golf clubs that perform they have got tools they don’t look at golf clubs like we do typically we the shiny the new they’re exciting they look at them as being tools for their trade like a builder with his favorite Hammer For example they don’t want to put in a new Hammer it’s shiny new they want it to have all the what what attributes has a hammer got uh grip potentially I don’t know but they want the best tools for the job so maybe these GT drivers are so amazing it’s like I half to in the back I’m gaining distance it’s more forgiving I want it give it me now or it’s a case of yeah that’s the same as last year’s I’ll use it to please my sponsor what do you think it’s an interesting take you could look at it both ways really um I mean the way that the brand will certainly position it is it’s all singing all dance it’s much better it’s going 27 neory yards and all this Jazz and I’m sure the players when they stick it all over Instagram will be saying the same um it sometimes it might be a time where let’s say they’re all getting a fit in and I think you see this even with Taylor Made there’ll be during that period of time when they’ve probably last had a real intense fitting with the current driver but there’s probably now the swings might have changed they might have seen a different shot pattern they might be seeing a different ball flight might be using a different golf ball whatever it may be and there’s an opportunity for a fitter to have new products and go right let’s really fine tune you in and I bet that element of it is is also key like I love that time when we had that conversation with Tommy Fleetwood and he talking about how having a sponsor is almost like having a mechanic for an F1 car good analogy and I feel like that’s this is their opportunity tight list as such who bringing out the GTS at the moment is like the mechanics can really get involved and go right let’s let’s tweak this let’s tweak that let’s really dial that in and going stick a bit of hot glue in this because they want that driver head to be going in the bag so I think it’s almost a time to to refresh and um kind of reg Galvanize the the energy within the driver I think where players will put it in quickly is because maybe it probably looks the same as their previous driver so when they set it up behind the ball it looks very familiar and they go well as long as it’s performing just as good if not better I can I can play with that not a problem I agree and I’ve was kind of been tonging cheek a bit there because I think there could be some element of that sometimes with players might put stuff in the bags it’s the same and the brands force them on it but what I would say and trying to you know remain as impartial as we possibly can be I personally believe that Titus are one of the brands if not the best brand for that in the sense of letting the players play what they feel most comfortable with it’s you know it’s not a secret there’s lots of guys out on tour who’s older versions of prov1 I think Justin Thomas famous used a really old Titus driver for a long time I think he was like the N9 17 or something for a long long time so I know that out of all the brands tit list don’t yes they care a lot about them using the latest and greatest but they’re not as bothered as long as it’s still titlist at the end of the day so interesting to see how that performs you’re getting fitted for one next week and obviously reviews will be coming out a few weeks after but is when is the actual ambar or is it SE I think it’s a little while off yeah again what I don’t quite understand actually is titlist release their driver every two years which I love I think Brandon to do that is really good it gets you excited and it makes you feel like maybe wrongly so but feel like there must be some difference it’s been two years what they also do is they seed the product much earlier than it actually comes out to markets they start to seed it to players on the tour now and then release it in September or whatever I think you said but I don’t quite understand why because it’s not they can change it it’s not they given it the tour Pros now for R&D purposes and they’ll then make tweaks and then release a product the product is ready to be released as we speak they’ll have samples and and product everywhere in in shipping containers but I don’t quite get the purpose of that is it to tell the story better as the consumer maybe I mean my logical brain tells me that you want the club in the players hands to win tournaments get an impact so you’ve got to do that in the summer mhm there must be some um uh research that Titleist believe in and go well actually the best time to sell product is actually September time yeah yeah which I don’t feel like it is I actually hate when Brands bring out when Brands bring out their drivers because often for me it’s either start of the year when no one’s really playing golf certainly here in the UK or back end of the year like Titleist or or ping of Norman done in the past I actually think why not April April and May should be the more time when drivers come out in my opinion cuz it’s the start of the golf season people are playing a bit more golf something new and shiny comes out oh yeah I’ve got to try that you’re right I think unfortunately unfortunately I think the reality is there’s a lot of like you said business decisions to why these are it’s why a lot of Brands and I think we can use ping as example why they often bring out the drive and like a Max version a few months later which they did this time with the G4 30 Max 10K it’s not that Golf Club wasn’t ready when the other ones came out it was because they release the first batch get the hype get the sales as they maybe start to slow off a little bit bang has a new one people then either buy that one or decide to go and try the whole family and buy another version of the same driver so I think you’re right I think it would make more sense for us as golfers but I think that they must have busy reasons as to why you know what though I think one thing that would genuinely change historically when BRS brought out golf clubs was it was all around that PJ uh trade show and a lot of the time dri manufacturers brought out their drivers ready to showcase at the PJ trade show this was before YouTube before you know people could really see images of it beforehand um I feel like if the trade show suddenly moved to April brandwood can start migrating towards bringing out products in April rather than January question for you then and I going to say take your impartiality hat off I don’t mean that in a sense of you know be biased or anything cuz I know you want to remain impartial for the the hit Channel and and that makes perfect sense but from from Rick Shields himself just just genuinely hand on heart now I want you to give me the two brands that you do with driver in particular still get most maybe excited normal like okay this sounds this is serious X brand brought on new driver I still think Taylor Made in Callaway would you say Callaway is above Titleist yeah would you yeah well because it’s every year it feels a bit different like tight list and ping you kind of know what to expect though let’s be honest and I know they’ve had a little bit of a shift in in name change but Titus are never going to bring out the Bazooka are they no they’re just not a white bazooka and I quite like him too because they’ be like oh my Titans are brought out this what the hell and ping what are ping going to bring out next time G 450 like a g you just know already what it’s going to be now that doesn’t mean that’s not a bad strategy I think that’s a good strategy in and do I end up putting a tailor made or Callaway driver in the bag not very often almost hardly ever but ping drivers many times I put the Ping drivers in the back cuz it’s like well I know what I’m getting and even tight list if you’re a tit list purist and you’re like well I actually know what a titless driver does and I want to keep a titless driver the next version it’s like well I just put that driver back and that’s something for me I’m a bit weird because even though I don’t use a tiess driver right now I have before and I use TI D and yeah know I do like tit list but I feel like for me if I was a consumer buying these things and I was playing a lot of golf I I don’t be the person that was more like to go from a titless driver to the next model because I think well it’s only change slightly but I may as well have the advantage of that slightly whereas I feel bizarrely going from a a stealth 2 to a Qi 10 is it actually going to be better I feel there’s more risk potentially it could actually almost be a step back it could brands have done that haven’t they with the old M2 was so good M3 and four weren’t better than M2 and one I actually feel like though titler have had that Journey as well like 917 was it 915s or 917 917s weren’t great at all no I think and then then they went to the then was it did they have a n n or go a TS I can’t remember now I think they might have had a 9919 as well and then they had yeah they had a couple of ropey years that’s just double check yeah they had 919 no no 9917 and then it went to TSR TS so I always remember 97 is just not to be phenomenal and then they brought out TS as almost like a oh look we’ve we’ve kind of done with the nines now we fixed it and now we and then they went TSR which actually I never reviewed in the end and now they’ve gone GT I as well TSI which is the middle oh so they went TS TSI TSR yes so it was 2019 was if I’m right now let me get this right I think 20189 was the TS and then would it be 20 21 I don’t know I’m confused now it definitely went TS TSR 22 23 and then this is for 24 25 effectively yeah that’s right then I don’t know it’s it’s just how brands do things differently I personally do excited to see a tit in a ping because I feel like it’s going to be small tweaks but it’s still worth doing tlor made I think I’m the most excited for in a sense of what’s the name going to be what’s the colors going to be what differences it’s going to have some level of difference um different brands different strategies different brands different strategies speaking of drives a lovely transition in a video that went out yesterday actually it’s going to be today in real time uh you have put a new driver in your golf bag because as the listeners and viewers of the podcast will know you have open qualifying next week I do well two weeks time two weeks today okay I thought it was a week so that’s better in it got loads of time loads of time load of time over again find my golf swing um I are you announcing where that’s at by the way in tea time course well it’s no secret it’s at 12:50 p.m. and it’s not the golf course I wanted it to be at ouch so I applied and I put my first choice this he hes Golf Club in Southport a course I’ve probably played five or six times um when I was playing properly a lot more actually one of my best ever finishes round at hes shooting a 3 under um just one day tournament end up I think I came second or third um of course I quite like as much as Robo James Robinson who played there last year said it was really really really hard last year um of course I was looking forward to playing anyway I didn’t get in I didn’t get in there and I’m actually playing at CDI a golf course I’ve never ever ever played it’s just down the road from Hoy lake so Royal Liverpool and I don’t know what to expect I would sorry my can you hear my chair m a little bit I can hear it’s really annoying cuz I’m I’m moving my chair more because my back so sore did I mention I got a sore back you have neck um and and then therefore the the chairs making a noise but I’ve completely lost my neck that’s making the noise uh you were on about uh we’re about yeah so saying one thing we made quite clear I think might have made a Clubhouse episode and you’ve even done it obviously on the video where you recently had a lesson with Dan greeve is explaining what this open qualifying means to you and what the actual goal is but maybe just run through that one more time for people that have dipped in out of content yeah it feels like obviously there was quite a lot of comments once I’d actually formally announced it on the main Channel and people kind of say oh what you trying to do you not can’t make it in the open and I get that and it’s not really this whole idea this journey isn’t to really play in the open and I got a really bit of saky DM message going um Are you seriously trying to qualify for the open or is this just a piece of content and I replied but just I went it’s a piece of content cuz that that is what it is I thought it’ be a cool idea to do a break 75 episode at open qualifying I’m trying to get my game a little bit better for open qualifying but that’s it once open qualifyings go am we’re going to playing tournaments no I think that’s the difference unless unless I literally somehow I go around and call the I shoot a 7172 and somehow get through to final qualifying this might be my last competition round ever ever well might yeah um maybe I can imagine in two years saying I want to there’s definitely an itch I want to scratch this year and I don’t know what it is I don’t know why it’s there but I I want to scratch this itch to kind of like playing something yeah and why I’ve Chen open qualified I’m not quite sure but I suppose it’s the easy one in easy to play in as in it’s like it’s it’s a big enough vent yeah and and I think there’s something about golf in a sense that there’s different types of playing golf is there’s a competitive golf there’s very friendly golf there’s friendly golf where you’re somewhat competitive there’s friendly golf where you giving each other the massive puts and there’s just no real scorecard etc etc I think you had a similar kind of upbringing to myself in terms of the golf where you were Junior member and a lot of junior members play comps from a very early age and although it’s not the most serious thing on the world it’s properly you have a scorecard you play by the proper rules play off often the furthest back teas Etc and I think a l lot of the golf we do is you know it’s proper it it’s different to a serious competition where you’ve got playing Partners who you’re not really massively chatting to loads other than just you formalities and being relatively polite and it’s a serious round of golf and I think sometimes I don’t know if you feel like this or not but if out out with yourself and shot a four of a par like I did at um Nevin happy with that but at the same time I know it wasn’t proper proper proper I took a few drops that were a little bit generous and it wasn’t exactly like it would be in a real comp so happy with it it doesn’t feel like if really achieved something but when you play in a comp and you shoot an actual decent score or score you’re quite proud of and it’s all proper legit and you got a scorec card it’s signed by a playing partner it just feels more real doesn’t it and I guess that’s kind of what you’re getting to with this that it’s actually a round of golf where you can somewhat measure yourself and see if this practice that you’ve been putting in and what does that lead to yeah it yeah that’s exactly it I feel I don’t know I want to prove it to myself that I can still play and compete and put a good round together I kind of want to prove it to the audience a little bit um that you know I’ve still got a bit of a game game of golf in there it might go completely wrong but I’m kind of going into it with a really nice mindset I feel like I’m going into it with the mindset of like I’m making a piece of content people already know what I normally shoot I mean the last honestly last 15 16 rounds of golf I’ve shot they’ve all been in the 70s if I can shoot a decent low low 70s and I feel like my game I’ve been having so many more birdies in the last probably 10 rounds of golf so many of my scores could have been five or six shots better comfortably just by one or two holes what would you say then if we gave the audience listening even yourself but it’s for people really understanding what this is about almost a traffic light system of a green Amber and red and green is a score that you would genuinely be like made up with want to shout from the rooftops about and maybe that can be a range obviously Amber would be a score you’d probably take now you take my hand and go yeah I love that and then a red is like a score range where you’re like I think it’s quite easy between between under 75 is probably green MH genuinely if I shoot two or three over I’m like yeah I’ve played pretty well there today anything between 75 and 80 is an Amber and anything over 80 is a red there you go that that’s it for me I feel at the moment I’m having lots of ERS and greens not many Reds which is good not really many like super greens like you know real real good rounds where it’s like a three or four under and I feel that I’ve shown promise there’s been a couple of rounds of golf recently where I’ve been like two or three under through nine holes thinking but it’s it’s in there and then just let it kind of fizzle away a little bit I’m going to call this now and this might cause some level of controversy don’t know why it should but I’ve Got a Feeling Pete might get through the first bit he’s been playing well and that’s something I’ve seen in the comments a little bit because obviously we had the chats a long time ago with Pete about open qualifying and people have been like oh you’re going against what you’ve said and and our conversation was never about whether you should or shouldn’t qualify it was the reality of if people were good enough to get through and I also with that if you’re a pro or scratch handicapper why would you not want to do it for the sake of just experience from what I’ve seen from Pete and and certainly what really got me thinking was that PJ tour qualifier at mytle beach where he played very nicely under the circumstances and was close to getting through that and that was OB serious deal I’ve just got a feeling this time that it might get through the first bit yeah he’s been playing really well posting a lot of scores on the par uh some of them at little kind of short fiddly courses but really Pete super power is driving distance and off off the tea and he’s actually been shooting some good scores at these kind of little fiddly golf courses where he’s not been able to use that kind of superow so to speak he’s actually a lot of irons and hybrids Etc and he’s still managing to get under par quite often um yeah he’s playing well his preparation is definitely much better than mine he’s played in competitions that’s a different I think again that’s a different criter it’s a different series isn’t it was he genuinely genuinely I think and obviously trying to get through well the first dat for sure and then how to do the final stage and then could he get to the open and he’s playing comps he’s seriously seriously putting the grind in whereas yours is a case of canab 75 it’s very different isn’t it although it’s the same event ath I’ll be different courses it’s almost like to some degree we’re both R in a 10K you’re going for sub 45 and I’m going for sub an hour you’re still doing the same race you got very different objectives and I think with open qualifying it very much people do see it understandably so as you’re trying to qualify for the open but I bet there’s guys and girls girls guys entering off scratch who might be going I want to break 80 that’s what I want to do I want to play on a break 80 in a really you know good golf course good standard the golf and not make a fool of myself whereas obviously other guys are going going no I literally want to be qualifying for the open like a James Robinson Back in the Day in 2016 there’s a few there’s a few comments as well people saying oh you’re taking up a spot of someone else I’m not there’s definitely I’m not taking anyone else’s spot just by playing in this um they’ve actually put on more golf courses this year than ever before they’ve had the most entries into uh qualifying than they’ve ever had and from what I understand nobody gets turned away as long as you as long as you’ve entered before the Clos the deadline you’re in do you think that’ be because the New World handicap system there a lot more scratch golfers could be it’s a weird I have mixed feelings on it as I said then if I was a scratch golfer or speaking to someone that is a scratch golfer I would absolutely say do it because it was 100 quid or something I think 150 quid to enter and you’re playing you know Elite standard of golf and I think most people know that the chances of them getting through are all but none but it’s that experience supp but on the same token I is it very romanticized is that even a term yeah I like that is it is it a bit like buying a lottery ticket like well I may as well be in it to win it but actually reality 99% of the people got no chance of getting through the um that film was on TV last night um Morris flip yeah did you see it I’ve seen it before I know you’ve seen it but it night it was it was actually on TV and I flicked it on just for like 10 15 minutes and it made me laugh I was like that’s a bit like me to some degree that’s kind of my take at the moment I I don’t know what’s going to happen I feel like my game is is definitely better my short game from the little practice I’ve done so far after seen Dan has definitely improved if I can keep the ball on the golf course control my emotions I know I can shoot low 70s let’s hope I do it in a round that matters very good and beat everyone else far in we at how long 50 minutes I I can see me and you going ending this right now on your little Club House special Friday guys thanks for listening um I’m trying to think of a of a fun Story to Tell in the podcast and I’ve actually got one I took my boys to the driving R this weekend and something fairly embarrassing happened did you punch an ice cream man with ice cream in his hand I punched the man who punched my ice cream okay he his kid and they must punched each other he punched you and it carries on um so yeah I’ll hold that for the podcast episode on clubhouse what I’ll hold that for the Clubhouse episode coming Friday thanks for listening everyone stay tuned lots more to come we’ll see you very soon that’s the end of episode this episode bye

Board of one person winning. Clearly you dont watch the Max show(F1).
I wonder if they'll offer fitting after watching this…?
11 wins in 3 years is incredibly impressive.
Imagine winning 9 times in one season at the age of 41 😮
How do you guys even talk any LIV when it's not even interesting
I watch far more DP tour than LIV much more interesting game
congratulations to scottie scheffler on his 2024 US open win. well deserved 🎉
No different than Tiger using a Bridgestone ball.
Here in Australia I watched LIV cause it’s the 1 thing I don’t have to pay to view
who is caddying for rick?
"Emergency HIT filming"… Proceeds to put it on the main channel 😂
Titleist have previously released the Howitzer and the Starship.
GT was a former Adams driver
My first time to see Rick and Guy on a podcast, and really enjoyed it..thanks guys. Scottie and Nelly are amazing golfers, but they are both really great role models,as well.
Caldy is brilliant, I play there all the time with my father in law! Gutted I’m away on holiday so not going to be there to watch this year. If you fancy a practice round, give me a shout 😂
distracting cause Guy's chair made so much noise.
Rick saying he’d like Titleist to bring out a gawdy driver after whining for years about Mizuno drivers being blue lol
I thought they discontinued the irons and wedges
Scottie is benefitting by the departures of better players to LIV eg Rahm, DeChambeau, DJ
I'll just say LIV golf is garbage
Costco seems to be doing some quality stuff.
