Downhill Southeast drops in on the basin side of Snowshoe Bike Park for round 3 of the 2024 season. This course hovers around most of the Rooty Pebbles trail with some bonus sections for good measure. It wouldn’t be a Snowshoe race without at least one wet slop day, it just happens to be race day. The racers and the film crew battle the rain and slop for this exciting round of racing!

[Music] race fans welcome back to the 2024 downhill Southeast series here at Snowshoe bike park in wild and wonderful West Virginia for round number three and this is the first of two stops here at this legendary venue we have a special show for you today as we bring Downhill Racing back to the Basin side for the first time in over a decade when Riders like Chris hen and Lauren Dany were ruling podiums and the young Shaw Brothers were just getting their feet wet this side of the mountain is the land of ladders LOM and Slick Roots so let’s head on over the track for a breakdown of this weekend’s course right out of the gate Riders drop immediately into some of the chunkiest Rock Gardens on track from the open slope continuing into the upper Woods here where a series of tricky roots rocks and lomy off camber set the tone for the heart of this track now just before dropping into split number two things open up a bit and there’s some really tricky off camber leading into a marginal line before our race Racers can dip back into the woods this is where our Riders come off the drop marking split number one now some nice undulating terrain offers a lot of opportunity for our Riders to pop and pump to maintain as much speed as possible through here right before we drop into split number two in the middlewoods things get interesting where the track opens up into a lot of line ches here our Riders are going to drop out of the woods out into the open and straight into split number two for the giant bull mashup this is our Motorway section with fast spms and tight doubles leading us all the way down to the Finish Line well here we are at finals day Riders had nice dry conditions for practice and seating unfortunately they’ve woken up to rain this morning and we’re going to have a proper mutter here on the Basin side of Snowshoe West Virginia well Grizz I’m stoked to be back in the booth for round number three the spram downhill Southeast here in Snowshoe you take a look at the seating results and it’s a tight cluster with the top four Rider Zan logar Altha oscard shell Pou and Caroline wasam separated by just two and a half seconds well I’d love to see such a tight cluster in our Pro women’s field today it’s going to be about who can execute on the day manage their anxiety manage their race keep it rubbers side down and hold it together and our hot seat Rider coming out of the gate right now is Raina logar gz she was fifth yesterday and a bit off the pace but she’s put down a great run in these wet West Virginia conditions that’s going to be a crap shoot today will let’s see what kind of line she’s got going into this first section that really has no good options you just have to pick one and go with it yeah these roots are deadly in here and yeah it’s going to be a real test of commitment as Raina gets loose coming in here and this is one of the most committed moves on the track and logar goes for it up and over that route and straight into this fresh crap shoot great job holding that together she almost threw a race Runner away right there she was able to manage it keep it upright yeah it’s 124 at this first split Grizz 105 was our fastest first split yesterday if that gives you any indication of how this course is running yeah right now the Track Running 20 nearly 20 seconds slower at split one and you can hear it just sounds like wet rollers like she’s remodeling her house right now it is n out here with this peanut butter mud today will and she’s through split two with the 258 but Raina lar one of the most experienced bike riders in this field at the young age of 15 years old she does a ton of cross country racing with her sister zaner for the gravity Collective and it’s a 331 Griz that’s going to put her in the hot seat with three more Riders to go in this Pro women’s field at stram downhill Southeast round number three and Shel Pou is up next out of Quebec riding for only only fans all smiles because she is like a pig in mud she loves the slop Grizz and her confidence is right back up you know she had a rough start I said this in the monster Pro downhill series but her her confidence is up at a 10 her intensity is bumped up to 11 she’s riding gloveless today not a bad choice this mud can be very slippery if your grips and your gloves get wet so let what line is she going to take through here wow opting to go with that main line what completely offline right there the pace was there though right off the bat she was on that main line and going to go around that route try to regain some composure and she’s holding it together quite well here she’s not going to be happy with that mistake but wow 3.39 seconds up at split one she’s still in this will yeah there’s a lot going on up there in Split number one as we get a new shot right here a fresh under the lift section really gotten cut up this weekend we did a sight lap yesterday and it was perfect tacky dirt I’m so glad I’m done with my racing days this is a treacherous day to go racing yeah it’s a huge challenge shell obviously up for the task though continuing to press on she was on that inside line right there was able to make that time back up to Raina logar that she lost up top well what I’m loving about Shell’s riding right now is she made a massive mistake up top but she’s just charging hard and not really caring look at her Gap now 11.28 seconds up at split two this is what it takes on a mutter race you just have to charge to the Finish Line whatever happens happens keep it upright and keep it pinned yeah she’s continued to build momentum after that win last round at mutton and shell will break the beam with a 318 so 12 seconds up and um wow that’s all I got to say about that performance it ain’t over until it’s over 12 well we’ll see what our final two Riders can do with that 38 Mich shelle Pau Ali oscard out of CA Washington one of the hottest female riders in the country right now the huge performance at the Monster Energy Pro downhill series taken second place last week at Mountain Creek and she’s currently holding the overall right she’s the series leader for Monster Pro downhill yes she is well she’s going to be hungry for a win here at downhill Southeast she’s been having a heck of a year on the Nationals let’s see the line she takes in this wow great great pace and she’s managed over that nasty route section will great riding out of alley and she was tops at split number one yesterday as well Grizz she’s going to play it safe and go around that root drop as you hear her making some exclamations about these conditions they haven’t been on course since practice early this morning well when we did our sight lap yesterday I called it you know she’s down at split one but that line could actually pay off in the long run wow she’s got to pull back 4 seconds on P who as we saw Grizz was just building Pace Building momentum here yeah she’s got her intensity up it looks like she’s learned from her Mountain Creek race run last weekend she came out of the gate swinging and it looks like she’s doing a great job managing her the day and just building her race run she’s holding great composure and minimizing mistakes and mistakes are so easy to make on a day like this well oscard into split number two and she’s pulled that time back G she’s pulled almost 4 seconds back so she’s less than a second back of shello she’s into this Bike Park section it’s going to be all about carrying speed through these BMS Oscar’s going to dig deep over the final jump and Altha oscard should go fast as Grizz 1 second up a huge turn around for Ali oscard that was an impressive race run great to see her build that race run she took some different lines aired on the side of caution at the top crushed it towards the bottom wellan logar is going to look to throw caution to the wind here gz she know she’s up against some stiff competition here the gravity Collective Rider out of Davis West Virginia was our top seated racer yesterday and it’s all to play for now on this treacherous Snowshoe downhill track Zan has been nothing short of impressive this entire downhill Southeast series she’s on a a near perfect season I believe currently leading the points she is eight points up on Shel poo in the overall but it’s starting to go south right out of the gate for logar she’s going to swing up to set up high here and coming into arguably the most technical section of the track right here very consequential moving oh l no oh yard sale logar just took herself she’s already back on the bike I wow that what happened there how that was an impressive get off get on that was some sort of sorcery right there she just bounced off our camera crew and uh right back up so she’s 18 seconds back but as we saw shell P was pulling time back on the bottom of this track if you’re willing to up the pace yeah well I I’m impressed with the intensity that she’s brought today unfortunately it hasn’t gone in her favor you can see it’s very easy to overcook this nasty racetrack here on the Bas ins side of Snowshoe but she’s holding it together that yeah those are some pretty difficult mistakes to recover from she’s lost a ton of time but she’s got her composure back under her feet now and and I like what I’m seeing as she hit split too wow 20 almost 25 seconds back yeah it’s continued to bleed some time here on this R uh run but zanna’s going to push to the bottom like you said she’s leading our series point standing so she’s going to want to come away from this race with as many points as possible shell Pau sitting in second just eight points behind is the gravity Collective Rider Zanna logar she’s going to break the beam not what she wanted to do today but we’ve got a long season ahead of us here at downhill Southeast she’ll finish up six today what a race Griz that was wild well like you said will she did what she could to manage some points for this overall it’s not going to be her day but unbelievable riding from these Pro women today yeah let’s take a look back at this pivotal moment I thought she was going to pull it off but oh just hit the front break and uh a little assist from the camera crew here is our Podium for the pro women Altha Oscar going to take the win here today shell Pou in second and Raina logar rounding us in third it went from almost dry Dusty to like full Mudfest it was a survival run for sure a lot of the local girls I raced at Mountain Creek you got Zanna logar and you got Rachel Pago like you got all those girls you have very very good competition here our promen seating results Grizz our top 10 right in front of us the top 10 are just separated by by 4.7 seconds in the top five even tighter separated by Less Than 3 seconds love to see how tight this racing is and defiant racing has really turned up here for Snowshoe they have four Riders stacked in this top 10 seated list here but will it’s a mutter so it could be one of those days where a sleeper might have a Podium performance Well Jack Peterson going to kick us off he is our hot seat Rider he was 14th yesterday in seating but he’s got the fastest time ahead of our top eight today today grz uh he’s fast out of the start gate but doesn’t look like he’s gone Arrow today with the kit you’re not kidding will he’s got a mix between Mountain die tie dye and a a riddler uniform looking like a question mark on the back of that whatever he’s wearing and getting loose yeah his style on the bike today is mirroring the style of that kit he’s getting loose he’s feeling it you got to be in these conditions in these two wheels sideways yeah Jack Peterson holding it and letting it slide getting about 75 skateboard kicks to get back up the pace here 104 is that first split our fastest first split yesterday yeah uh definitely about 10 seconds slower in that sector jack’s looking like he’s holding his composure minus that little you know drawn out drift that he had but you know Jack Peterson’s one of these Riders where I’ve been watching him ride practice and I’m like this dude is due for a win he wins practice at every race I’ve ever seen him ride well he’s had some results this year but like you said not where he wants to be he wants to be on the top of the podium 221 is where he went at split number two he was sixth place to start the season at trials training center and he’s going to go fastest here as our hot seat Rider a 2 49.9 impressive riding out of Jack let’s see how that time holds up will well our top eight is on deck and we’re going to get kicked off with Walker Cottingham AKA Walker sending him out of Greenville South Carolina he’s just 17 years old riding for the gravity Academy making the replay show debut here in Snowshoe he had that look of confidence in the nice dry conditions but he is absolutely charging out of the gate love this intensity can he hold it together in these first Woods this has been a treacherous section for all these Riders here today it’s really a a tone setting place in the track just to get your Rhythm get your flow and that was real clean oh clean over that route at it pays to go big on that one Griz will did you notice he just took an awesome outside line there he’s doing a great job managing his speed holding the inside line here on this peanut butter mud section yeah he’s right back on the pedals uh he’s going to be a little bit back though 3.58 back on that time of Jack Peterson wow the clock doesn’t lie he was looking amazing up into that first split but he’s charging hard you know maybe that inside line holding those real tight lines maybe it is just not the way to go you know Jack Peterson kind of set the pace with that beautiful drift yeah and he’s going inside again real real inside here yeah so many lines on this track I mean the Snowshoe crew have really left It Wide Open to ryer interpretation and uh some of them gotten really chewed out you saw those inside lines oh his Cottingham doubles over those routs cheeky little move right there Grizz he had a couple podiums last year in 1516 so he’s a guy that’s been coming on as he loses a little bit more time there 7 point four five back this is one of those runs where on tape you know on camera he’s looking pinned but the clock doesn’t lie I mean I’m surprised to see him go red here at these first couple of splits because that was an awesome run I mean he’s going to go third 6 seconds outside the time of Jack Peterson hopefully more runs to come from Walker Cottingham here on the ram replay show as we look to David KH out of edwa North Carolina doing it for ride Rock Creek ride canooga good hike real handup glove in seating yesterday put down a 229 he was 11th at the trials training center and 22nd at the uh Premiere Monster Energy Pro downhill series will this is another Rider I feel due for a big performance here in the downhill Southeast series been very impressed with his racing and riding not just this season but throughout the years and he has a great save there to kind of back up what I’m saying oh and a sneaky line he goes in between that big route and the tree that tree’s lost a lot of bark as Ryder started to unlock that mid inside line and KH going to take it to the outside yeah look at that pace he’s holding on the outside again just holding it wide letting it slide on the gas here no skateboard kicks needed and he’s green well oh you love to see it so KH really getting into the flow here on this race run haven’t seen a race here on the Bas inside at Snowshoe in over a decade and this could definitely be a track uh that suits David KH really well he’s had great Enduro results in the past trained and made it to the Enduro World Series before he took on the job as bike park manager at Ry Rock Creek it will looks like David really did his homework here this is one of those tracks where you need to know every square inch every route every Rock and have different line options for conditions like this so I’m really liking the execution I’m seeing here today oh and he’s extended so two seconds up for David KH he’s doing it on that framework downhill rig you know he’s got it dialed in from all of the testing at ride Rock Creek and Khan’s going to bury the pedals sending it to the Finish Line David Khan goes fastest by 2.6 seconds right let me get over it hardly muddy that was amazing riding yeah David looked right at home here on the slopes of Snowshoe Mountain so we go back to the top and Carter lindblum out of Charlottesville Virginia for blue wheel Offroad Grizz Carter a wild run out at Mass nut let’s see what he can do for us here in Snowshoe yeah I’m excited to watch this race run here will charging hard out of the gate absolutely on the gas even drifting on a straightaway a little bit there let’s see how he composes himself through these nasty Woods here oh very clean tidy wow big front wheel slip but he managed to do that incredibly well will yeah straight down the gut and into that sneaky line that we saw from David con’s taking it to that outside rut clean through there yeah you can see they’re breaking so hard the bike is standing straight up and they’re just burying it in that corner last second loving these drifts here he’s getting the skateboard kicks to get his momentum going that’s not going to cost him too much time it’s a mud race you got to do whatever it takes to keep on the gas well 1 second back get split number one it’s a 105.1 for Carter Lim Blum no that is not what he wanted to do right there it’s a tricky set of turns right there Grizz a tight left out of the woods and then that flat right-hander in the slope it’s easy to lose your speed you saw that happen to Carter right there yeah and he’s opting for the inside line here which we’ve seen is not the faster line to take but it’s the line he chose for today it sounds like he’s breathing a little tight he’s you can see his ridings get a little bit tight as this run evolves he’s had those mistakes kind of Stack Up on each other but he’s building his good good Pace here will split number two so he’s just lost a little bit more time he’s third at split two As It Gets locked into that rut that’s developed kind of straightlining those two BMS has to get a couple pedals out of that one so Lind Bloom trying to charge as hard as he can down to the Finish Line he was third at split number two and he’s going to end up third at the finish so 250.0 five for Carter Lind blo 2.7 seconds back on that time of David Khan five Riders left to go Zack humble he’s ready to do some damage here at his home turf of Snowshoe West Virginia repping the chess protect Tor Moto Style Grizz well I got to ask you was was this dude a a like a stunt double for uh top gun Maverick he’s got a fighter pilot look about him he has an intensity about him when he gets on track and he’s going to throw everything he’s got at this one today oh pinned through there it’s like he’s ridden at a time or two well you see that preop he did to Gap over those roots he we’ve seen a lot of riders swapping their front tire and holy cow is he holding Pace again just burying into that rut last second well he’s riding with full commitment that’s going to pay dividends today the back end gets loose is he keeping his feet up what feet up on the gas seator this kid is on a heater and he’s green will two and a half seconds up on David Khan this is some special riding here from Zack humble yeah he’s going to be patient right there in that rut to be able to manage feet up in that nasty off camer mud section I mean this kid’s on a great race run what’s he going to do here in for the outside not quite far outside but holding great pace through these tight BMS yeah I I like the patience that he shows right there to take those outsides and just continue to have some Pace up and over that rut right there he gets dicey down here he’s got some awesome lines he’s opting for some safety lines where a few seconds ago he took a safe line but wow he’s green again at split to so he’s he’s on Pace here he’s charging hard where he needs to and being conservative and patient and safe where he needs to as well this is an awesome race run yeah humble’s going to make these Young Guns earn it today as he comes down to the line he’s going to knock David KH off the hot seat oh goes second lost just a little bit of time kind of ran out of gas at the end of that run but that’s some exciting riding from Zack humble speaking of exciting Titus Nicholson from West Milford New Jersey he does not need a mutter to get loose on track this could be a wild one Griz oh tight defiant racing they they’re doing the battle of the mullets Titus has a clean mullet and the M mustache to back it up too you know he had an interesting seating run his he’s had some issues over the weekend he’s actually on a a a fresh frame I’m not going to go into the Weeds on what happened but you know he was just going to break the beam for yesterday’s seating and decided no I’m just going to give her the beans and that’s what we’re seeing here today will yeah he’s on one here in Split number one Ty actually leading the downhill Southeast overall standings you see that number one plate on the bike as he throws it into that rut that’s about as clean as you’ve seen so far outside of Zack cble oh and it’s paid off on the clock 2 and 1/2 seconds up Titus is absolutely charging he’s got through some of the BR most brutal sections on this track clean he’s green at split one look at his composure here just saving energy cuz he knows he’s got some work cut out for him here between split two and the Finish we took outside to inside right there diving into this Rudy section we’ve been waiting for a big breakout run from Nicholson he’s been consistent to start this season smashing that outside line look at this pace he’s holding here I’m really liking this riding this R wow and he’s green and flip two taking it to this track in Snowshoe nearly 1.5 seconds up on David KH surely Nicholson going to be up to Pace on these last couple BMS Titus breaks the beam here at Round number three downhill Southeast he goes fastest by 1.6 Titus Nicholson into the hot seat awesome riding out of Titus it looked like he really enjoyed that run to be fair let’s go to Titus I mean you were just going to break the beam yesterday and you decided uh no let’s just go full pole in the gate yesterday I was like I might as well just put a run down and see what it does and it was on a brand a different size frame that I’ve never ridden before like completely foreign to me but it made it work well I think that just lets your riding shine through a little bit right how do you feel about your time today you’re the current Hot Seat Rider we’ve got just a few Riders to go do you think your time is going to stand I don’t know but I’m just stok to make it down with no crashes and yeah I’m clean I don’t know I mean you are clean your chest is a little dirty but I mean considering the conditions that you’re pretty clean man well the top three is ready and waiting to bump Titus off the hot scene it’s Nick Frasier first up the young 16-year-old from Vernon Connecticut [Music] he’s rocking handguards today all right doing it for a ch’s as well yeah he’s looking Pro he’s got the rain jacket on trying to stay dry but I love the pop of color in his gloves and on the goggles clean tidy riding through this section folks this is way nastier than it looks I know it looks nasty but believe me it’s way worse than it looks oh dude I want no part of the conditions here today is Nick makes short work of that section right there he was second in Mass nutton with a breakout ride here at downhill Southeast great pace through this nasty off camber dangling that outside leg for a little bit but yeah what’s it split one little red but he’s within Striking Distance here will all he’s got to do is just charge oh no no he’s he’s going to have to charge a little bit harder than that yeah that was a mistake definitely a mistake was not able to hold it together in that right hander coming out of the woods and yeah again offline he’s coming unglued easy to do I mean I’m it sounds like I’m beaking these Riders I if I was between the tape I’d be outside the tape about 75 times by now yeah even with the track as wide as this Chris definitely hard to keep the wheels where you want them to go and uh Carter Lind oh he’s pulled some time back so 1.2 back now um so yeah I mean there’s just so whoa gapping right there those BMS so many opportunities to pull time back if you can keep your head in the game here on this crazy loose track it’s going to go second only 1 second back he’s not happy with the run but he’s going to be happy with that result impressive just goes to show you got to just give it everything you got until he crossed the Finish Line well two Riders left to go Cole SOS out of Lenor City Tennessee put down a 226 yesterday the defiant Jersey looking pretty clean right there but it is about to get sloppy as sweetos drops in here at Snowshoe you know like I said at Mountain Creek in the monster Pro downhill looks like Cole is really clicking with his new bike new team new suspension new haircut so I’m expecting to see a heater of a run out of this dude today and wow look at this pace through these nasty Roots will just gapping over him trying not to let his tires touch it that’s the best way to keep going in your desired Direction he’s going to check up a little bit on that tight switch back yeah holding it together he got stood up pretty bad on the exit of that switch back but holding really good Pace here through this off camber wow he was feed on until oh so close to being perfect right there but that bench has just been eroding all day it’s going to be 5 Seconds back at split one that’s going to be a really tall order for Cole yeah it looks like he’s just sort of mildly defeated at this point he’s not really attacking you know I don’t know if he’s thrown in a talent per se or if he’s just trying to hold hold it together and and make the most out of this race run from here on down to the Finish Line yeah it’s a little flatter there in the middle section so he’s got some gravity back on his side so a little more aggression out of suetos here yeah here he goes now he’s cooking he’s got his Pace back up still 5 Seconds back though so it’s not going to be the result that Cole wants he’s sitting in sixth place there at split number two especially for a guy who’s fresh off a third place Podium finish at the Monster Energy Pro downhill series at Mountain Creek but he’s going to charge her to the Finish Line Cole suetos finish in seventh place 5 Seconds off the pace and we’ve got one Rider left to drop Grizz and I am fired up for this run it’s young Colin bour 16 years old for defiant racing out of hamen Connecticut put down a 225 yesterday and he had a breakout ride at Mass nutton he was seventh in a huge class at Mountain Creek for the 17 18s so he’s ready to form here at Snowshoe yeah Colin Bor one of those Riders that’s kind of flip-flopping between Cat 1 171 18 and pro his teammate Chris Lee big is also kind of doing the same thing uh you know Chris Lee big his teammate got his first pro win at Massa nutton and I know Colin Bor is going to be hungry to get his first first pro win here in the downhill Southeast series and he’s looking like he is on point charging super hard yeah lines like that they’re really going to help your confidence if you nail I mean that’s the hardest line of the whole track you get that right at the top you’re going to be F oh Bor is loose right there oh yeah just slapping that tape getting back on the gas he’s green here at split one well we’ve seen you can make mistakes and you can pull the time back here on this track it’s just so sloppy no one’s having a perfect run an interesting strategic move there by col I mean we’ve seen that section it’s so soupy he kind of went around those mud bogs yeah again these Riders are kind of opting for safety where they feel like they might lose the race so and again Colin taking this inside line here we’ve seen other Riders kind of take that safe low line so great work by the Snowshoe Bike Park trail crew to give these Riders so many options throughout this weekend well bork’s been charging on I hadn’t really seen much more wrong and yeah he’s definitely putting down a heater right here 3 seconds into the green Chris oh this kid is on one here if he can just hold it together where there’s not too many spots where he can throw it away I think this is his race will he’s on the gas charging hard yeah this could be a break out one for Colin bour and he goes fast as Colin bour takes the win by 1.3 seconds and he’s fired up there in the Finish Corral celebrating with family friends teammates I know Titus is going to be stoked to see his teammate performed today and uh couple defiant guys up there on the box not a bad day at the office defiant racing having a great weekend here at downhill Southeast that’s going to be a happy pit let’s go here from our winner Colin bour yeah dude it was so loose out there honestly like I was just sitting at the top with a lot of pressure cuz you know I’ve never really seen it first before only in 171 18 so being in the pro circuit is uh it’s a lot of pressure and uh I had all the fast guys here so it was a lot of pressure definitely for sure and uh sit at the top I was just trying to tell myself to stay on my bike and keep it clean and I mainly did that had a few mess ups but not that bad so it was nice to pull off my first ever Pro win here’s your Podium today Colin bour taking his first pro win here at samam downhill Southeast Titus Nicholson in second and Nick Frasier in third place rounding out the podium all right everybody D wild bit of racing today Grizz and uh these fellas came out and performed well that’s a wrap for round three of the 20 24 downhill Southeast series here at Snowshoe bike park in wild and wonderful West Virginia we hope you enjoy this special edition here on the Basin side and on behalf of myself and the entire gravity Co-op we want to thank you for supporting us downhill join us again in just a few short weeks June 28th through the 30th at Windrock bike park in Oliver Springs Tennessee for round number four [Music] M the smell of West Virginia Morning Dew it’s beautiful

  1. Sunday was 🌶️🌶️. Throwing in a vote for another basin side race next year! Thanks for the great coverage.

  2. Thanks for the phenom coverage as always! Were they using Rooty Pebbles with a new rock garden entrance? If so, that trail is so good actually! Last time I was there it quickly became one of my favs!
