El Downhill Urbano en la ciudad de Manizales, realmente fue un éxito y un show increíble. Rafael y yo estuvimos analizando la pista de principio a fin y tuvimos la oportunidad de hablar con algunos corredores y disfrutar este evento que estuvo lleno de bicicleta, mucha buena onda, gente increíble, corredores muy TOP y unas cuantas caídas que quedarán para el olvido.

Adicional a ello, este evento de DH Urbano se realizó con un riguroso análisis de cada tramo de la pista para, los obstáculos clave y algunos tips, consejos, comentarios y trucos para mejorar su técnica cuando se enfrente a situaciones similares ya sea como corredor profesional o como ciclista apasionado. El plus de este evento fueron las entrevistas exclusivas que obtuvimos de Juanfer Vélez y su caída, Tomas Slavik (un referente internacional), Valentina Roa (Campeona mundial de Downhill) y el gran ganador del evento (Sebastián Holguín).

With much honor and pride, out of the 15 editions, I’ve won 9, and today, I’m here with none other than my brother Rafael Gutiérrez, who hasn’t won any because Marcelo hasn’t allowed it, but well, here’s his first time off the track. This event is enjoyed a lot from the inside, but from the outside, it seems crazy, so join us as we show you the urban event from the inside. Look at this, this isn’t just about keeping the tire, that’s a big deal, because the jump comes from there to here, I think, and luckily he didn’t fall headfirst. Well, the scares start right from the beginning here, this section of stairs, legendary, what’s the deal? There are two possible jumps, an easy one and a difficult one. Here, where we see Slavik stopped, is the most technical, steepest complex, but well, it seems they’re going for it all because all the pros managed to do it on the first try. He ties it, here there are holes, that’s the tough part of this flight. This one, very similar to the one in Guanajuato where the exit is like a turn, close to the wall, it’s a technical move, truth be told, few have done it well. And on top of it all, there’s a rule: you have to touch the wall, if you don’t touch it, it doesn’t count, disqualified, but with the gap jump, up to the wall, that makes it even more complicated and more technical. That’s it, perfect! That’s what you have to do, if you noticed, he jumps, touches the wall while leaning and then falls again, the fatal mistake is when they jump and stay vertical, going downwards. Ouch! well, there are ways to pass the wallride, this is one of the most fearful, it’s to jump and stick a bit shyly, he only touched with the rear tire, everything else went well thankfully. The way to experience an event like this, every time they ask me: "Marcelo, where should I stand to watch the event, what should I do?" arrive early, take the walk from top to bottom carefully, watch the practices and then the qualifying and the final. We’re at the fourth curve of the track, and here is where patience is key because people get here in a hurry to the apex and can’t make the curve, they have to get here with patience, open up a lot because you have to enter bunny hopping to some stairs in a mega curve, that’s tough, it’s very technical. Let’s go Steven! There’s the perfect example, the more pro the rider, the more they can risk taking the highest part of this step. Here people, when they watched the videos, when we were racing, they were impressed because one goes from the curve to pedaling. What happens? the urban track is so short that wherever you can pedal, you have to pedal, and these stairs could be steeper so you have to gain momentum with some pedaling. For this section, the secret is to open up a lot when getting off the stairs and to look for the best angle here, as close as possible. It used to be by the slab, but they put up that mesh, so now it’s more dangerous because it’s longer. Let’s see how they enter here, how the next one enters. Look closely at what this guy does, he goes inside the post, but there are many people who I don’t know why, they come all the way here, that’s wasting time, extra meters, you always have to look for the straightest line, less time. Until they finally improved on the jump, this is a banked turn that costs a lot because you come out flying with a reception, it’s complicated but this year it turned out spectacular, with very good grip and a very decent landing. Well, this jump is definitely worth taking this time, finally full grip, it won’t slide, full safety, and take all the speed possible for what’s next. Things like this demand physical preparation, training, people say: "Downhill? it’s just downhill, gravity." This is where races are won or lost, and as Rafael said, and the track is a minute and a half, exactly, a minute and a half, there’s no room for mistakes, one pedal stroke makes the difference. Damn, Juanfer took a hard hit. What happened there? Well, yeah, we were expecting, obviously he went full throttle, trusted a bit too much, he skidded, you can see it in the video, fortunately he’s fine, we don’t know if he’s up for a decent race, but fortunately nothing major happened, he fell hard, such a brutal blow, these things happen, risks you have to take, this guy plays his cards a lot, there he lost his card. What happened? I was having a good race, but until the end, Uh, When There is this pedaling long section I was shifting down for lighter Gears for the chicane And I shifted it up like three Gears And I did a strong pedal stroke And I Smash the Chain.
