[Music] oh [Music] yeah I swear sometimes our fans read our [Music] mind written at the top of my little notes that I take each day for the show I put Kevin po three for four last night two run home run first 17 games with the angels 431 459 on base 759 slug and one of our first comments of the day in the chat is from Jackson who said Kevin PO is 25 for 58 since appearing on this show so I just want to point out Kevin po who not only did something that we haven’t seen at least since I can remember you get cut and minutes later you are on Ft to talk about it and you move from the white socks to the angels which in the standings doesn’t do much for you but he has found his spot his happy place and he is thriving I know eratz is smiling inside and out if only if only the team they played for last year needed an outfielder now like a right-handed hitting outfielder just saying well he could be there soon enough what back yeah he ain’t going anywhere with Anaheim he’s going to get traded that’s what I mean not to the white socks that’s not what he said no no did I miss who did you play for last year oh to the Braves oh any way sorry I blacked out for a second that’s okay you were finishing your snack but we were you know I love that our fans are thinking the same way we’re thinking because they’re watching baseball you know while we have a moment one more for you so I promised everyone that if you rate and review the podcast nicely and don’t complain about ads on a free show that I would read some of them so here’s one that’s fresh just 10 like Justin but just one zero love the Pod best crew around love getting former player insight and knowledge I’m a Braves lifer so I’m happy you guys were able to bring in Brad Scott and the guys from battery power for the new Hammer territory podcast ads on the show are no issue here keep up the awesome work and I’ll continue to be a daily listener thank you just 10 appreciate you that was nice I’ll keep doing those all right let’s dive in shall we let’s charge the damn M charging the also please subscribe to foul territory please like the video that you’re watching right now and I’m going to drop the Ft leadoff newsletter in the chat because there’ll be a fresh one for you tomorrow morning it might include the San Francisco Giants who are heating up they’re two games above the 500 Mark we’re going to start with with the national league west but we’ll take a tour to San Francisco they walk off the Phillies last night it was a Bull Pen game for them Matos of course with the RBI because he’s been a machine for them in the RBI category are we buying what San Francisco is selling right now well I mean I picked him to go to the postseason so I’m gotta be buying uh they can pitch they ever get snow figured out they’re going to be pretty good you know will they hit enough they’ve been hitting just enough they haven’t been exactly smashing the balls but they’ve they’ve hit enough in that home ballpark it’s a tough place for opponents to come in and win uh sorry crou your Phillies you know with their offense that was gonna rival the 27 Yankees uh yeah they they get it done against San Francisco in 10 Innings they score zero runs um yeah I’ve been high on the Giants all year when we’ve had Giants guys on the Rogers Brothers youky uh Austin Slater whoever it is I mean I’ve I’ve said they’re going to make the playoffs and listen there was an old saying you know Cy once a giant always a giant go team I’m normally just a regular siiz person but I was a giant for for a few weeks so it’s like we’ll we’ll come back we’ll come back and hang out at the Giants alumni game I’m sure they’re going to invite us back AJ well they retired my number they didn’t retire yours so that’s all I can say how do you know how do you know what my number was not retired exactly exactly but yeah the Phillies lost I think it’s it’s downhill they’ve been struggling against the Rockies and now they lost against the Giants no like it it’s one of those things you face you face a bullpen day which I feel like lines up nicely if this game was a little later I might have picked the Phillies a little later the Giants went four Innings from Snell yes he got seven punchies but he threw his 90 pitches in his four Innings and then they went Bullpen day there is a shuttle from Sacramento to San Francisco getting some new arms in and you wonder if that’s sustainable I don’t think Snell is going to be going four inning pieces he’s going to have to go deeper into games if they’re going to run out five different relievers for a 10-inning game that just slowly wears on you but they are getting two good pitchers and Alex Cobb and Robbie Ray back near the All-Star break maybe augusti so that could that could be pushes them forward and if they stay a little bit above 500 huge huge bonus for them they’re not counting on those two though for me they’re not because they don’t know when they’re coming back yeah I mean they’re not sure everyone thought Walker berer was coming back sure you know in a in August of last year and he didn’t pitch it you know he didn’t he didn’t contribute and so I mean I think I don’t think they’re counting on them I think they they’re counting on Snell to be better especially after his itin I think Logan Webb has been Logan web I think Harris starting to figure it out a little bit Yeah they have to use Bullpen days every once in a while but the Giants have been using Bullpen days for years so they’re used to it heck they’re like we only have to use one Bullpen day out of five it’s a win for us because last year we’re using four out of five so I mean I like where the Giants are you know if they get Solair going uh they’re going to be okay and I think the rest of this division hasn’t lived up to the height especially the Diamondback so that’s why I think they’re in a good position do you think do you think in 1954 some people some of the old pundits of baseball were like oh they’re going to start counting sack flies now they’re giving all these kids these days everything you know babe I don’t know when Babe Ruth died but you know some of the old old heads were sitting there going oh man sack flies I’d have hit 420 if they’d have counted all my sack flies that stat there they just said they started counting sack flies in 54 so how do you think it was back then you think they had any radio casts podcasts back then that they were complaining about now sack flies are not going to count against your average they always had Lawns if that was your question there were always Lawns to get off that’s what I mean that’s what I mean like 54 oh we’re gonna start counting I always thought fly balls to right field when you move a runner from second to third I always thought they should be sack Flies why not everybody gets a trophy the you think they should be RBI sack flies sack flies not RBI a run batted in no no I’m just like well what do you want like because no one really cares like the RBI hitters care yeah I guess you’re right you’re saying two RBI sack so it doesn’t count as the out that is so awesome I got two RBI sack fly once true story you actually got two ribbies for it go ahead base is loaded one out hit one in Kansas City Kansas City National Park it was kind of rainy a little rainy Right Center I think de David Deus was a center fielder and he he went to right center and slid and I think Alexi Ramirez was on second and he just not even a play two RBI safly guy on third scored second because De Jesus like sliding he couldn’t stop no errors no okay and he caught it literally on the fence right so you you crushed it you get two ribbies for it yeah it was great in any other par and came back statcast 29 of the 30 Parks it was a homer in sure should have been four I want my stats revisit that pre- statcast era but and Hawk said Alexi Alexi San Francisco though has won 10 of 12 so they’re playing pretty good ball the one you know shitty news is that uh Lamont Wade Jr has a grade two hamstring string he’s going to miss about four weeks he’s been so clutch for them he’s having a breakout year he’s been he’s on another planet right now listen I I never want to say someone is injury prone but he’s had a lot of injur some of these you know a lot of you know I don’t know how you can what makes you injury-prone but Lamont Wade has had a lot of injuries he should have been an Allstar last year tough position because he was playing first base for him but the numbers he had he had eight at the allstar break like an 860 880 Ops he’s he’s been doing it in a tough part small guy in a tough Park to hit in like he he’s going to be missed just like just like jul Le is going to be missed in in uh center field like you don’t that’s Elite defense yeah and he heard it on that sick play remember Chapman against the Mets made the barehanded grab and then he made the stretch that’s where he hurt the hammy man 333 47 on base 426 slug his OBP is way ahead of his slug 896 Ops 169 Ops plus and just clutch knocks I’ve already seen either games or highlights where you’re like oh it’s Wade so that’ll hurt for about a month let’s move to the Padres in the division the two teams that I think were compared the most in terms of where they would fall in the standings and right now they’re playing out to be around the 500 mark but there’s a new X Factor for San Diego and his name is Jeremiah estada he has struck out 13 consecutive batters it’s still going too it’s the longest streak since at least 1961 according to Sarah Langs although Jose Alvarado did punch out 11 in a row at one point last year but this dude’s on another planet right now and it’s not like we’ve been hyping him up for years he was in the Cub system last year got got some big league time did some Triple A was about a walking inning Cubs let him go great waiver claimed by the Padres and now he looks like one of the best relievers in baseball and that’s how you build a bullpen folks play it while it’s hot keep him keep I mean they put him they put him in there in a big situation last night he needed to get those punch outs and it was he didn’t you know he was dancing through the raindrops but just absolutely filthy whatever that it’s a it’s a vulcan change up after we talked to Tony gwin Jr yesterday about it I’m like I want to look look this guy up more but he he holds a vulcan change up where it’s basically you know Star Trek the Vulcan and he holds it every pitch and it’s nasty MC nerson it’s feels like it’s very difficult to GR a baseball that way no a lot of guys throw that change up they just put it here you just I know so you put it between these fingers so here my trusty little handle I have on my ball so you just hold it like so the so this is my pointer middle the other two don’t have to be close to each other though no so it’s it’s would be like that like that okay it just takes velocity off the ball a lot of people put it with the seams so the seam see the seams are between the fingers yep also has a nasty there’s a million different ways to like you know change ups there’s a million ways to hold it just depending on what works for you right but that’s with circle Vulcan he doesn’t throw the dead zone fastball though no he throws the Riser that is impossible to hit right now he throws the living Zone yeah it’s very alive it’s awesome though what a find that is where I will give a ton of credit to AJ preller and the operation over there PS have won three in a row I mean look at yesterday’s game you have Waldren going seven shutout Innings I know it’s the marins you have profar who they signed late in the off season who’s been on another planet I don’t even know this guy anymore he had a two-run homer at three RBI and then here’s your waiver claim who nobody can even touch when we say like he strikes everyone out he literally strikes everyone out it’s not even just 13 in a row which is the record last 21 batters faced 18 punch outs and the dude can go multiple Innings he didn’t yesterday just stru out the side but he had multiple times in the past finding that’s a weapon finding value in pitching is I’m not saying he’s the one that makes the claims he’s the one that but he’s the one that helps guys and gets the most out of them I I lean on Derek Johnson in Cincinnati I think he does a great job and you see what their starters are doing it’s a lot of guys with hype and they’re slowly increasing and and getting better improving Ruben nebla is the is the pitching coach in San Diego and he ran for a long time in the minor leagues he ran Cleveland’s just Juggernaut of pitching manufacturing and so for him to get that job and to be able to you know see Diamonds in the Rough like this he saw the the algorithm the whatever the I don’t even know what it’s called the formula that the that Cleveland used to call their guys up and constantly we’re having new guys step in you know maybe some of that has to do with it too his postgame quote Oh there’s a fan comment from Michael love me some weird change up grips can we change that backdrop though why don’t it’s it gotta be wrigly because it looks really nice I love that we have we have a new look we’ll talk more about it later background change no I love it incom we can make it any we can make it anything we don’t have to make it that gorgeous let’s vote Scott keep it or don’t keep it keep it I mean look at me I got freaking I got grass behind me I have two hands one of them’s weirdly bigger than the other guy like arada it’s a good call Shane so Estrada postgame said I feel like I just got done playing a video game and I finally accomplished a mission that I’ve been trying to go after for so long gen Z gen Z comment this was a record he was like man I’m going after this record I mean come on dude just how about just say it’s pretty awesome that it was fun I mean it’s kind of funny but he likes video games yeah but I video game it’s like finally beat Bowser in Super Mario yay that was tough that was awesome you finally beat Bowser and you saved the princess yeah like okay if if pinski was still on the twins you know years after he was gone and the twins were terrible against the Yankees as they have been and they finally beat the Yankees in like an NDS or something and and the first thing AJ says postgame is like yo be Bowser that would go viral okay I agreed but there’s one huge difference what I’m not going out astronom made that sound like this was the record he was chasing like oh the record’s 12 I’m gonna go for 13 strike punch outs like nobody had any idea what the honestly anybody here know what the record was it was last year Alvarado at least knew it though since 61 no no no I didn’t I don’t for saving me yeah but the reason why we’re bringing it up right now is because it’s cool and when you see someone punch out the world like this you do start to hit the history books and you’re like is this normal have we seen this and I’m just not remembering this it was like this reminds me of when Bobby Janks a couple years ago more than or like 20 how how many a couple years ago so more than a couple years ago but whatever year Markley whatever year mark Bley threw his perfect game 2010ish okay he did earlier either earlier in the year or the year before Bobby Janks set the record for the most consec batters retired consecutively it was like 50 or something I don’t know what the number was it was like 50 I don’t know I’m throwing numbers up there well then Burley threw his Burley retired like the first 12 last 12 in his start four then he went 27 and then he went like five perfect his next start in Minnesota and he broke Bobby’s record and we knew it because it had just happened so we’re on the mound Burley and I we we walked off the field after because we knew we were like kind of I was kind of keeping track of it and I’m like hey you broke Bobby’s record and he’s down there and we’re like hey as we’re walking off the field and he was so mad at us right so this [ __ ] does matter what are you talking about but that was something we knew about that we knew that one we knew that one because even burley’s like look at Bobby how pissed Bobby is right now because I don’t know what the record was but he broke it and then someone else I think 41 consecutive batters retired I think who Bobby yeah he it was formerly the Major League record and then Burley broke it and Burley yeah had the Perfecto in what was that 09 July 23 that sound right wait wait wait hold up real quick but yes we knew that one because it had happened right around the same time Jeremiah estada entered this game retiring 10 consecutive batters via strikeout I’d like to also add they were all swinging strikeouts the 13 but anyway you don’t think anybody came up to him and said hey dude no alberado did 11 last year no nope really you don’t think he knew no he might I think he knew dude he had already done 10 and now it’s a game you know it’s a couple days in between you don’t think someone came up to him likeo the recordado now that to somebody oh like to jinx them yep okay especially like the pr staff they’re scared to death to say something like that to people yeah because they’re GNA come after you oh maybe some dumb writer will say it I I know for a fact hater had some type of record of strikeouts I have no idea what it was like I I don’t know like the 15th time in the season he struck out the side something ridiculous I caught strike three jogged off the mound tossed it up over the net one out in out on hour half of the inning and our equipment guy comes to him he goes hey you still got that ball comes to me and asks me hey you still got that ball like what ball are you talking about he’s like the strikeout I was supposed to get that from you he broke the record he broke some kind of record in 2018 and I tossed it into the stands like how was I gonna know you don’t you don’t think about that I I would have a hard time believing Jeremiah knew that that was a record now somebody should tell him hey we need that ball somebody should tell higgy hey we need that ball it was written about before this outing and he probably did know you know like people were already but he also what I what I meant by that is he probably knew but what I’m saying is he didn’t go into the into his career going I really want that 13 strikeouts in a row record that’s more what I meant not like he might have known that day because somebody he might have read it or saw it fine what I’m saying is the way he made it sound was like he knew going into his career he’s like I’m gonna get this record it’s like chasing you know Pete Rose like I’m gonna get 4,200 hits I think you guys just don’t know how missions work in video games oh my God no that’s like Angel Hernandez saying ever since he was a kid he wanted to be a big League umpire no he didn’t like that wasn’t his life goal no if you if you read that piece it said his dad pushed him into it said he should do it so just saying um all right let’s get to our first guest of the day we’re excited for this one uh joining us right now on Ft live it’s our perfect game Spotlight powered by Magnus [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I like that I’m not gonna moo although at some point we might Colton cower from the Baltimore Orioles joining us right now with the great uh great facial hair action going there too for a young ball player I like it nice I know going on right now I was gonna shave the beard up and go straight mustache but uh got a little lazy this morning I feel like you’re halfway in between I feel like I feel like you’re like I Want a Mustache I kind of thinking Fu Man chew I don’t know what I’m doing yeah I don’t know what I’m going for right now uh the mustache is definitely long enough I was thinking about maybe start curling it here soon but um yeah the Beard’s kind of grown back quicker than I anticipated so you’re maturing so much in the big leagues it’s so nice to see Colton do they have Barbers around all the time yeah they do I haven’t got a haircut in a while though uh you know I’ve actually gotten Rhino Hearn keeps giving me a hard time you know he’s like hey let’s let’s clean it up man like what what are we doing you know you’re on TV every night and I was just like you know just haven’t uh haven’t been able to uh tackle that yet take your hat off let’s see the flow yeah what are we wor I a doing that I got power alleys for days right now you know I got oh it’s not that long no you’re okay hey you think this hey it’s been I got my my last haircut was opening day which was a while ago oh wow and you think You’ think my hair would be a little bit longer but we’re at the point in life where it just doesn’t gr very fast anymore when do you give up like CR gave up so I want to know when the point is that you give up because like if K takes off his hat he’s clearly giving up I mean I have a full head of hair right there fors huh like that was am not bald I am not bald I choose this yeah you can keep it going yeah I could I could have a fa Hawk if I wanted it would just start like way back here yeah I mean you you definitely you definitely could still you know get a little get a little flow going the the way the way I the way I see haircuts is like me I have Kaufman Stadium this is Kaufman like huge deep deep alleys you you you’re you’re you’re not quite a Colorado yet Colton but like you know you’re more like you’re definitely out of the Philly Cincinnati realm so that’s that’s definitely I’m defitely not not in uh you know a a ballpark that it flies at but I’m definitely probably I’m playing I’m playing a little bit deeper than the normal average ballpark I’d say you’re like you know what you are you’re like cam in yards now the one side you showed us is like the mount the mountain in left field so that’s like your Camden Yard side and then over here it still is like right field in Camden so it’s kind you’re you’re cam in yards now it’s perfect yeah you know it evens out is that why so then is that why so many bald people grow facial hair because they like cracks can’t but most bald people that I know have facial hair like Brandon Hyde right he has the beard Freddy Gonzalez he’s bald he has the weird mustache right so is that why because they’re making out for something well it’s funny to say that because like my beard didn’t I had a full-on beard obviously beginning of the year but like my beard didn’t fully come in until like this year it’s like my it’s like my body understands hey your hair’s going but like we’re going to go ahead and supplement that we’re going to give a beard so um what a gift it’s all right hey it’s all right I I’m okay with it you know it’s the league of adjustments it’s a life of adjustments no I like it and I mean you’re a different player this year Scott by the way Scott cannot stand this kind I’m fine with it he’s like we gotta get back to baseball everybody it’s got to be baseball I started it yeah look at that hair exactly yeah great that adds like four it’s like uh what was the basketball movie with uh well bronnie James is what three in shorter than he actually is when they measured him at the combine so I can add I can add a good three right here so I’m if if Ronnie James is whatever he is I’m like 65 right now but anyway AJ is right I am going to S steer to baseball oh wow boo boo boring here I I’ll I’ll enter I’ll enter in this way what would Colton cower right now tell Colton cower about a year ago if you had to give that young Colton cowser rookie some advice because you were going through it a little last year and you’re not going through it this year yeah I mean I would just say um you know you look back at last year um I think honestly I think a better word to do it is just a little bit be more patient um and kind of I think I guess understanding I mean I think last year was didn’t quite understand kind of the role I was put into and I think I had a whole offseason to think about it and uh you know kind of understood what I was going into spring training kind of competing for and I think that whenever you you know are kind of have more of an idea in your head that you you don’t put a crazy amount of expectations on yourself then you know you have a little bit of pressure lifted off your shoulders and I think that that is that’s something that I would have told myself last year yeah but would you have listened or would you have been like oh crap no I need to put the pressure on myself like honest like an honest like Scott’s question we’ve been there like we’ve been there like sitting there going oh man I got to do this like you you met you met the future you and you’re like dang you’re kind of a boss I want to be like that guy how do I do it what do I do or what was your mindset during that time yeah I think that during that time it it was you know I really wanted to produce I really like like I said I was putting the whole weight on my shoulders like I I really like I wanted it so bad that I kind of end up making myself kind of spiral a little bit um and I think that in this game you cannot do that um it’s it’s one of those games that will humble you real quick and um it’s all about not getting too high on your highs not getting too low on your lows and kind of just stay an even kill and I think that last year I um kind of allowed myself to get get pretty low on my lows is it is it pressure that external things are put on you family friends fans first round pick all that stuff or is it your personal like goal to push yourself to be the best you or better than all the other prospects in the organization yeah I think that it is more or less it was me um just because I knew that I wasn’t playing as as well as i’ I’d like to be um and like who how I know I could be as a player and I I understood that I wasn’t doing that and wasn’t performing um and I so I would say it definitely was more or less coming from myself um just because I wanted it you know to go well and when it didn’t you know it wasn’t the end of the world I think that that was something I also had to understand as well um especially going throughout the offseason was you know not trying to trange change too much but also you know there’s there’s adjustments always to be made and um you know finding the the right ones hey Colton is first of all let me just say this if you ever want to get hot just play the white socks because every video we show is some guy hitting a homer off a white sock pitcher or striking out a white so it’s unbelievable I mean I had one hit I had one hit in four games so I mean I’m not you know so you you’re flat you’re flat for those four games I appreciate you’re flat I apprciate but you know you’re talking about all this pressure and this and that I mean you were a first round pick you were what fifth overall pick you sign for a small amount of money and you know you’re a bonus baby and so you’re thrown right into the spotlight and you probably have never struggled right in your life until you get a little bit and you’re like man I need to do this I need to do that so walk us through what it’s like for the first time for a guy like you who you know went to a D1 school high pick big money out of college you know USA Team USA All American this and that and then all of a sudden you’re like wait what I I’m not doing good what what is something wrong with me so walk through that yeah you know it’s a it’s a different ball game uh coming up to the big leagues and especially coming up in the big leagues in a team that was competing for the AL East um you know I think it was one of those situations where um you know you kind of anticipate to come in right away and you know start every game but you know in the reality of things it that’s not what it was um you know we had a couple injuries so I was coming up and playing when I got the opportunity to and um you know I think that like last like I said like last year I didn’t I didn’t understand that um you know I was like why am I not playing but like whenever you take a step back like I said in the offseason I was looking at I was like well I mean I I wouldn’t have played me either based on you know how I performed for a little bit of those games so um you know I think it’s it’s something that it’s just all about perspective and mentality type of thing so when so when you see a guy like Jack let’s say let’s use Jackson holiday right who came up and he went through it right he’ never been through that board do you have conversations with him do you still talk to him do you say hey look I went through a little bit of something similar this is how I got through it or is it like ah you know like crat did to all his teammates oh out of sight out of mine yeah you know I think I think uh you know initially it’s you know you know Jackson’s a great player um one of the one of the best guys I’ve been around not even not even when it comes to just is you know his baseball just human beings he’s he’s awesome um and so you know initially it’s like you know what’s known doesn’t need to be said you know he you know I’ve been through that you know you don’t want you know a crazy amount of people you know hitting you up and whatnot but like like you know I think he’s getting back to his normal self you know he’s continuing to work on things and you know it’s hard it’s a really hard game especially whenever you fail um you know you’re always trying to find ways to combat that and make it a as short as possible and I think sometimes it can go inversely for a little bit you can struggle for a little bit longer even though um you’re back in Triple A um that’s something I went through last year but you know eventually you you start to feel like yourself again I think that was the big thing for me was when I got option last year you know when I was playing in these games in the big leagues I you know didn’t really feel like myself but like that first came back I was like I feel like I could breathe again for a little bit um and so having feeling after being in the big leagues is something that you know um he should he should really um you know feel and be like okay like this is how I should feel when I’m out there the next opportunity that I get up in the big leagues I like that that’s good okay so on a lighter note is it going to be weird that you’re going to play your entire career hearing the same noise from the crowd like you hear moo at home and on the road you get booed if you’re somebody so you’ll get booed at spots like Yankee Stadium and Fenway and you’re going to hear Boo and it all sounds the same doesn’t it yeah it does so I in in my eyes it’s oh they’re cheering me on you know like oh I got I got a bunch of support here in the stadium it’s really nice to them you know yeah he’s just always Gonna Hear moo Kats yeah your fans travel I like that they used to they used to call me Chooch I’m pretty sure they called me me and the the other catcher I played with Chooch every time even when I pinch hit they would they would be like Chooch there we go I’m pretty sure they were I’m pretty sure they were not booing me well hey but the real and the good part of it is you know you never know if they are except you except you probably except you probably will know you know when that time comes but I’m I’m not gonna take it that way how about that no no that’s that’s huge because like even Aaron judge Aaron judge is 62 dingers and then in the playoffs they were booing him by the end of their playoffs so you hit your 62 dingers they’re going to be like moo and then you don’t get any hits third game of the playoffs they might mix in a b in there and really an m and a b are super close because if you have like yeah if you’re like congested or something you’re like oh man my nose is really rubby you know and so like the B and the O really really translates I like that yeah my question to you was about triaa because I spent a lot of time in triaa and I think Scott wants to keep talking about your mooing but I’m gonna talk about trip no I don’t go to Triple A you’re good okay is Triple A is are the minor leagues too easy you know you look at your numbers you look at some of the guys in your organization that are putting up just video game stats is it too easy and if it is too easy that’s not that’s not throwing a shade to anybody that’s down there how could we As baseball improve it so that guys are more ready to be in the big leagues well one I don’t I don’t person no I don’t I don’t think that it’s too easy at all um I think that uh you know you brought up our organization I think that organization’s done a great job of you know discovering and developing guys um one first off good ball players but too I think it’s just a bunch of great dudes and I think that when you have a bunch of great guys in a clubhouse it contagious um you know when one guy starts you know has success or say he struggles a little bit it’s like you won’t even really know because like they’re the same guy every day and I think that that translates out on the field as a whole group um you know you kind of see it throughout our whole uh whole organization and I you know game’s not easy but um you know we have a lot of guys that are making it seem that way though Colton uh two two things one we I there was a guy named Lou Ford who I played with with the twins who was in triaa one time just gotten called up and he comes up to bat and they’re all going L and he goes I don’t understand they’re booing me and it’s my first at bat I don’t get it true story uh but so you never know like you said it could be moo it could be boo it could be whatever CR was talking it could be whatever Crouch was talking about but do you have any good Angel Hernandez story like did he ever reject you did he ever do anything because I know guys in the clubhouse were like wait Angel’s gone now wait I might actually get strikes called strikes and out called out some safes called safes no so I don’t I don’t think that I ever had him as an Umpire um because I was up for July to like mid August last year and then I came back up for a couple days in September and then I don’t we we haven’t had him this year um yeah I don’t I don’t have any good stories for you fortunately wow that’s disappointing because I was hoping that you know there there has to be he hasn’t done an Orioles game all year but what about for his teammates like you got some I know you guys are young but when you guys saw that news you know 48 hours ago who when did you find out and there had to be some fun reaction from somebody in the clubhouse you know it could have been Corbin Burns it could have been you know who’s a vet Mullins I guess you know one of those guys santand there who was like anyone I would assume I would assume mccan because he’s a catcher and he’s been in the league for almost 10 years now but no so we had we had a day game Memorial Day and I got a my dad text texted me the article um and I saw it and I honestly I I didn’t think much of it um and then honestly whenever I get to the clubhouse we didn’t we didn’t really talk about it at least with me at least amongst myself I didn’t I didn’t really hear any good stories or anything like that but I’ll have to ask see that’s what’s Wild though I love that he he’s like I wasn’t I didn’t tell myself any good stories about myself well he didn’t I mean he’s he’s second year in The Bigs but but what’s Wild is you know you’re in your little world and bubble with the team doing your thing focusing the entire baseball world is just absolutely swept by that news over the past couple days like cannot get enough and there were we talked about this often multiple weekends where all this crazy stuff happened like fun stuff in the game and he was the one going viral and trending on Twitter and all of that right but obviously it’s different in the clubhouse yeah I don’t I don’t really get on I don’t really get on Twitter um I deleted it and just because I would lay in bed and just scroll on my phone and I was like I I’m having to delete all that um yeah I mean we didn’t really talk about it um in the clubhouse so yeah sorry sorry to disappoint there no no no disappointment I actually think it’s helpful so that b some Baseball fans realize like this is not just all the news in the clubhouse right now and all the chat one guy gu I guarantee in a little more I don’t want to call the the Orioles you know a bunch of young kids but they’re a bunch of young kids they’re young yeah you get into a you get into a Cardinals uh you get into a Dodgers there’s some guys that have been around that have been rejected by Angel before I promise you people were talking about it like the Texas Rangers were like oh hey Wyatt Langford you’re a rookie Angel Hernandez can’t call a ball 12 inches outside on you three times in a row and you go sit down I mean I you know just because he’s on a team you know and listen I get it Colton he’s like I don’t want to make any of other umpires mad so I’m going to be like we don’t even know we don’t even we don’t even notice who the home played umpire is we don’t even care yeah I mean I try I I try to get to know a lot of the umpires um you know running after the outfi you get to have some nice casual conversations with them you know where they’re from blah blah blah um just making small talk you know I think that helps build rapport and good relationships amongst them amongst the umpires there’s a book by the way I don’t know if they still put it out but there is a book that you can read and it has like all their bios in it so it says like it’s it’ll say like Joe West sings country music is from you know Orlando Florida likes to play golf da D and then they’ll start giving all the bit there’s all these like there are certain ones like Mike Riley was like a huge Oregon I think it was Mike Riley was like a huge Oregon Ducks fan so you get behind the plate hey how are the Ducks because I used to read this [ __ ] because this how I didn’t have the magic the glove I had the magic of the G well I think our catchers get like now I saw it just because my Locker’s next to M’s and they they get like a one the Umpire report and then two like it has just like their bio as well but like you know they mcan’s been in the league for a long time so he knows a lot of these guys um really well um but so like he he said he is always just talking to him about you know things like that it’s brilliant I mean it it can’t hurt to be friendly with them all right I want to ask you a question since we’re in our perfect game Spotlight right now you played in perfect game tournaments and even when you weren’t playing it was helpful can you give us some background on that experience when you were growing up yeah I did play in some perfect game uh stuff growing up except perfect game didn’t rank me very high in any of their rankings but whatever um what was your ranking what was it that never bothered me at all but um you know my dad took offense to that but I didn’t never go to like the the the showcases or anything like the camps I just played travel ball with uh you know uh my travel ball team but yeah it was awesome we got got to play my junior going into senior year of high school we went out to like the the big tournament out in Georgia um got to play against uh you know a bunch of bunch of really good teams ended up we I was on the Texas 12 um and we end up getting second in the whole tournament but we got to we got to play some uh some really good competition we lost to the the canes so um that team was that team was pretty loaded no not the cocaines the canes not not the cocaines just the regular canes the Evo Shield canes yeah H they’re the Mets the can’s National they’re Mets the Mets now oh they changed well no they’re called Kane’s National Mets they’re sponsored by the Mets Steve col bought them I don’t know like my son’s team is the Blue Jays or the Blue Jays oh now they’re no okay yeah because whenever I D I’m getting rained on right now um sorry speaking of rain we’ve had like a rain delay the past 12 out of 18 games I think put that out there it has just followed us across the country um but whenever I was playing it was like Kane’s national uh Kane’s they had all kinds of weird names for them yeah it’s probably online right now you can probably look it up I don’t know I won’t do that I won’t do that because we have we both have sons we both have sons that are playing right now they’re both 17 the whole ranking system is like you see kids and it’s like they’ve gone to 19 showcases and they’re like ranked they’re ranked a nine and you’re like a nine so you should have been you were first say this actually I’ll say well actually the other day I was actually I say this the other day it was me and my buddy in the offseason we were looking at because we were the same high school um draft or high school graduation we both got drafted in 21 um but we were bored and we were like let’s go look at some of the the guys that were just ranked above us see were see like you know they’re still playing and whatnot and you know there were we were amongst the few that were still playing so it was pretty cool to see not knocking the ranking system by any means like you know a lot of those guys were really good so but you know kind of gave me a little extra motivation how about that okay I like that I like that but trust me my kid like GRS nice kid will be at wwba in Atlanta and the whole deal I know what you’re talking about but every kid as soon as in high school they’re like oh let’s pull up his perfect oh we’re facing this guy oh let’s look at his perfect game oh he’s ranked this oh like throw’s this I mean it’s unbelievable the amount of of information that they have available I probably did more so I actually worked perfect game tournaments when I was in uh college so I was the guy who had the I don’t know what if they’re still using Diamond cast I think that’s what it that’s what it was when I was working um so they they were developing that whenever I was so I would sit back there with the radar gun and I would do the iPad and stuff and let me tell you there was some parents man they would come sit back there and watch their kids throw this kid’s topping like 82 popping off my radar gun and he’s like that’s he was like 88 last weekend and I’m like well he’s 8 82 to 83 right now he’s like well so that’s going to go in like the diamond cast I’m like yep and they were he had his pitch radar or the the pocket radar and his was like five miles per hours off than mine I had the stalker 2 Pro I’m like I’m gonna go Ahad and trust my stalker 2 Pro here okay that’s by the way yes they still use Diamond cast and you’re the you’re the guy high school college kid sitting behind no plate that when you give the kid an error everyone’s like the parent comes over and like that’s a hit you don’t know what talk oh yeah all the time and whenever I and the biggest thing that would make me so mad was so they wouldn’t I had get the lineup card I have to go chase it out um but whenever they would do that I if they made a sub coaches aren’t telling me nothing back there so obviously I’m not making a sub and all of a sudden I get a parent come over and they’re like hey uh my kid just got a hit but it’s not popping up on the his stats for the tournament like what’s that about and I’m like well you’re gonna because like the way you had to do it it was like early in the app and so you had to undo all the previous plays and like write down what happened and then you had to go forward again but like towards the you you caught me on a Sunday consolation game I’m not doing that I’m sorry I’m not going I’m not going all the way back to inning three here and and whenever we’re in the sixth inning like Sor sorry Little Johnny’s not getting us hit for the tournament that’s awesome good but now now you don’t have to worry about that because with Magnus and yaker Tech and baseball Cloud other than I don’t know about the uh the diamond cast but you know that’ll do all the information so they can’t argue with anybody unless they’re going to go up there and yell at one of the AER Tech cameras so so that yeah you’re you’re off the hook all right so yeah so Scott and I recently were at Camden Yards we didn’t see you but I just want to show you how big of a Colton cowser fan that I am check this picture out look at me I was dressed up wow look at that wow Scot’s hugging on my udder he’s tugging on my udder see him real talk I don’t recognize that Camden yeah that was not it was a Convention Center out front of Camden yeah that yes you’re you’re at the Hilton across yeah oh phone call phone call so that was at a music festival that was at EDC in Orlando no joke but oh you like you like those those Headbangers huh house music yeah I took AJ and then we found a Colton cower fan so it all comes for now now they have cows and Canon all the time it’s amazing exactly yeah here we go awesome having you on dude appreciate the time it was cool to get you on here for the first time really enjoyed it and keep doing your thing out there right yeah appreciate youall having me on um you know it was a fun time and uh hopefully we hopefully this rain goes away stay dry tell you got a window tell tell Rubenstein because I heard he’s awesome we have some mutual friends tell him when he gets a chance I know he’s got a lot of things to do he just bought the team but retractable roof would be fine at some point if he wants to put it on his checklist I don’t know if that would be possible unless we go like no off the warehouse mhm just go over I know we could be able to pull that off so some futuristic thing across the warehouse by the way I don’t know I went to Baltimore a lot of times in my career I don’t think I ever went it did not rain and the hottest [ __ ] place on Earth is like August in Baltimore after it rains and it’s like you can’t even breathe because it’s so hum you can I can I was literally walking to the bullpen and I would have to move the air out of my way so I could get to the bullpen yeah it’s uh it’s pretty humid um someone asked me that the other day uh because I’m from Houston and they were like how’s like the like you know grew up playing in the summer in Houston it’s pretty hot I was like honestly Baltimore’s just as humid um just not as not as temperature hot but it it you start sweating right when you walk outside air is thick yeah it is well keep trucking through it all right good to see you hopefully we’ll catch you at a game soon all right yes sir appreciate y’all see you yeah you too appreci appreciate you Colton cower Baltimore Orioles great sophomore season that was fun was a good one and also just wanted to let everyone know that was our PG Spotlight presented by Magnus stay smart with Magnus get you a yaker tech as Johnny Gomes said on Ft about a week ago that was good that was fun you know how we kind of categorized most of our player interviews it’s either like they’re a dude and they just chat with you or they’re a little calculated or they haven’t done this stuff much he’s a dude he was in the dude category yeah you know what I’m saying like he’s just chat we’re talking about facial hair we’re talking about him doing Diamond cast for kids events like yeah I can totally see I could totally see Colton cower sitting back there with you know with his umbrella and his little iPad and crats his kid not getting a hit and KS going over there going listen Colton he’s like listen bro I’m a first-rounder I’m a PG all- American your kid got an error okay don’t come over here CRS I don’t even know who you are okay I’m gonna put it down as near cat’s like no but little little my son Ethan he needs he needs that hit all right right to our next guest people I’m excited to bring in Ken Rosenthal inside scoop [Music] time hello Ken Rosenthal ft senior Insider good to see you ran a little late with Colton CER he was awesome though it was great to have him on um k I want to get right to business with you as the trade deadline gets closer we’re almost in June now we have pasted Memorial Day weekend so I’d like to pinpoint five players to watch at the trade deadline I’ll let you start if you want to pick one player to start just one that’s on your mind that we should be keeping close tabs on that could get moved that contending team should be watching Pete Alonzo number one for me and the Mets are 10 games under 500 they’ve been a pretty extreme disappointment in my opin opinion they thought they were a playoff team and maybe they still are maybe they get hot and finally start playing to their capabilities but he’s a free agent at the end of the season and I would expect that if they are out of contention if they cannot sign him and they cannot sign him because he’s a Scot War’s client who is unlikely to sign an extension they have to listen they listen last deadline I don’t know that they were that serious then but he would be probably if he’s out there the best Slugger available and an intriguing guy no doubt Ken followup here on Pete what kind of message do you send to him if you trade him away and you do happen to still want him because where I think it’s complicated is that they’re not just faking it they made an offer to him last year that was quite substantial if you trade a player like this away who thinks he’s a legacy player and wants to be in the same uniform for his entire career is it worth that Prospect if you’re not going to resign him in your Minds it’s absolutely worth that Prospect rather than give him the qualifying offer and get a draft pick back this concept that some fans have that hey we can trade the guy and then sign him that hardly ever happens it happened with the Yankees in a rers Chapman back in the mid2 t0s but once you cut the cord once you send that player the message it just encourages him in almost every case to test the open market which he might have done anyway so the real decision for the Mets is if they want Pete Alonzo and I’m not sure they want a first baseman entering his 30s who is obviously going to decline at some point in his longterm contract but if you do want him yes then you keep him you take your shot at the end of the season because if you trade him that’s it Scott agreed Ken agreed for once we agree but here’s my question so if you have pet Alonzo at the top who’s next on list is it a Jesus lazardo is it a Tommy fam is it a Kevin polar is it Mason Miller who gosh can you I mean listen the A’s got one thing going for him it’s Mason Miller trading that their fans will be like wait I thought we were adding we’ve had this conversation before but who would be like the next most likely and some teams like the White Sox and the Marlins would said hey we’re trading everybody so we know those guys but is there who’s next in line Lardo to me AJ is the single player most likely to be traded the Marlins are going to keep going they traded AR R they’re going to trade Lardo as long as he stays healthy he had that little flare up physically earlier but he’s gone and Mason Miller is going to be a really interesting name because I’m sure teams will come at the A’s they already are coming at the A’s and I’m sure the A’s will consider this because he is a reliever he did missed almost four months last year with an elbow problem and given the volatility at the position given that Mason Miller is unlikely to be the closer for the Las Vegas A’s in 2028 or whenever they get there I can definitely see them doing it if they get the right return and I would imagine that they might so those two guys for sure are going to be talked about I would expect Tyler O’Neal from the Red Sox if he gets healthy again and starts playing better again will be a prominent player discussed you mentioned polar and fam they’re getting moved I would expect no question about that and the other guy I had on my list who is going to be someone that is really interesting is Eric fetty from the white socks was in Korea came back he’s done a terrific job for them and I would expect because the white socks will listen on him everyone that he will be one of the most attractive starting pitchers available is it ever possible that we could have a early trade deadline where it would associate to you know some type of compensation pick some type of because teams are hanging around and kind of hoping it I made me think of it because you said about Tyler O’Neal they’re 500 team and where is that something that theyve ever talked about or is that something that would ever happen because then these teams with the expanded playoffs are now getting players for a longer period of time and it might encourage people to make more moves well Eric you don’t need a deadline for that teams are free to make moves right now we saw that with the Padres and Marlins with arise it’s just a question of motivation and if you’re the Red Sox to use that example which you just mentioned do you want to give up on your season with four months to go do you want to send that that message to your fans now in the Red Sox case it probably doesn’t matter their fans know what this is about this is not about this year but teams generally are unwilling to compromise in that fashion remember they have season ticket holders a lot of teams feel there’s an obligation to put the best product on the field for as long as possible and that deters those clubs from making early moves the one thing that has been discussed especially now with the August deadline gone the waiver deadline is moving the deadline back to August 15th or something and then at that point teams have even greater Clarity than they do at the end of July but to me I like it at the end of July because it leaves enough time for the player to make an impact that you acquire and it forces teams to make decisions now Eric what you’re asking is should you force teams to make decisions earlier let’s say July 1 it’s an interesting thought I don’t know that it’s going to happen though hey Ken I want to double down on your Tyler O’Neal thought do you think that the Red Sox have to be somewhat significantly out of playoff range to make a move like that because of the criticism that they’ve gotten because of quite a few last place finishes for the ball Club lately would it be a bad look if they’re close enough once we get to that trade deadline and they make the move because they say hey let’s be real we’re not winning a World Series this year even though they could sneak into a wild card and wild card teams have a lot of success and they’re a big Market team they could look at it that way but if you’re talking about bad looks Scott if you’re worried about that don’t trade mie bets don’t lose Xander bards don’t do a zillion things that you’ve done that have forced fans or persuaded fans to think this team is not exactly what we want them to be right now so Tyler O’Neal in the grand equation of all this not a huge piece he’s a potential free agent he’s represented by Boris he’s probably not going to be back there I don’t know that finishing last or finishing fourth is going to matter this year the Red Sox are trying to build something and they’ve had some tough luck this year let’s face it they might have been a really good team this year if Trevor story had stayed healthy if Tristan casses had not gotten hurt if these things that had happened had not happened Lucas Gio is another one so they have without question had bad luck but they’re going to look at themselves realistically this is Craig bro’s first deadline as the head of baseball operations and don’t expect that O’Neal will be the only one traded Kenley jansson could be another they have a young core forming they are an interesting Club because of the way they’ve transformed their pitching but I don’t know that they see themselves as a playoff team and if you’re not a playoff team again fourth or fifth that shouldn’t matter I’m gonna bring in a fan question on this topic we’re talking about players to keep an eye on as we head to the trade deadline so here’s I need money I’m going to stretch as question out too said Ask Ken if he thinks Kyle Tucker could be on the Block if the Astros don’t turn it around so I’ll paint a picture with two American League teams Ken you’ve got Tucker you’ve got bregman who’s actually hitting free agency after this season Tucker still got a year after this and then the other two names you’re going to hear a ton especially if the team doesn’t play well is Bo bashet and Vlad Guerrero Jr so of those four really big names right with with big track records what do you see if these teams are not shape like let’s say we get to the deadline both of those teams are eight games back like what could happen who’s most likely I was looking down because I was looking at the standings trying to determine where the Astros were I believe they’re six and a half out in the wild card race right now and in the division they might be around the same I’m not I don’t have to standing in front of me but they have played better and they are not going to give up easily if it all under Jim Crane That is not how he rolls and I can’t really even imagine them going in that direction Kyle Tucker might be the MVP of the American League so he’s not going anywhere I wouldn’t expect bregman yes free Asian at the end of the year unlikely to be back but the way I see it they’re going to view themselves as contenders they’re not going to see themselves even on July 31st if they’re six and a half out as hopeless they’re going to go for it now the Blue Jays are a much more interesting question and the question really really there is if they don’t get it together how far do they go as far as deconstructing and you can certainly trade your potential free agents Kikuchi km there are a couple of others but bashed and Guerrero are the big ones and they are guys under control for next year as well you haven’t signed them you might not want to sign them for that matter so they’re going to face some really hard questions and their front office their two leaders Mark shyro and Ross Atkins are approaching the ends of contra s this is a club record payroll they don’t want to give up I’m sure of that but at the same time you might have to be realistic if you don’t start playing better so to answer your question who is the most likely of those guys to get traded I would say bashet but it’s really a guess at this point I don’t believe the Astros will trade those players um Tucker and gregman it’s just not the way they roll if you spend $1.4 billion in an offseason to build your team that was already a really good team where should the Dodgers have allocated a little bit more money to to fill holes that are needed in a team you know the best team that money can buy I don’t know that they should have allocated more money Eric because they spent a lot but as I wrote yesterday for 1.4 billion they did not get a complete 26-man roster and part of that is injuries of course and part of it also is some of their young players I’m talking about outman in particular who got sent back to the miners pasis who had the great start but it’s kind of tapered off and Miguel Vargas not really yet a major contributor they have not filled the places that the Dodgers necessarily thought they would and they’re young players so that’s life in the big leagues right the bullpen is another area of need and yes they have some relievers injured right now Phillips and Kelly and brazer and grat are all so if these guys come back they’ll be okay they’ll probably still add looking for another lock down guy but offense has been their biggest issue and they need Lux to hit they need the bottom of the order to be presentable they’ve got three Hall of Famers at the top Will Smith for all we know might be a Hall of Famer one day too they’ve got Muny once he comes back and T Oscar who is their RBI leader they’re good with the top six once Mony is healthy the bottom three have not been good and that is something that they will I’m sure try to address if it continues okay so what’s their number one need then Ken another bat yes we all we all came into this season saying damn the Dodgers they’re going to score five million runs this year and all of a sudden they’re like wait they need another bat now I know there’s been injuries Lux has been not good Chris Taylor has not been good I get a M’s since M’s been out their offense has really kind of really gone down quickly so you’re saying a bat over a lockdown reliever or even another starter because as good as glass now’s been he’s going to hit a limit of innings where he’s never or a number of innings he’s never been to before right Kershaw we don’t know when he’s coming back what kind of thing is ber on there’s a lot you know Stone and Bobby Miller’s already out and there’s there’s a lot of questions in their starting rotation so you’re saying it’s a bat over a pitcher right now AJ and certainly that can change we’re two months out from the deadline and the health questions with the rotation are not insignificant you didn’t even mention Yamamoto who is pitching for the first time in the major leagues and might not be the same at the end of the season as he is now and might not be what they wanted to be I believe that they are going to space out their starters and handle them with extreme care and mix in extra days when they can perhaps not a phantom I stint but you know what I’m saying guys it happens sometimes when a guy comes up with something and has to be out for two weeks so I expect all of that to take place and yes they do have Bobby Miller coming back Kershaw at some point Dustin may could even factor in at the end of the season but you don’t know exactly where you’re going to be with buer and some of the others who are coming back so the rotation certainly is a work in progress and will be all season but offensively when you look at their numbers right now 6 through n or 7 through nine when Muny is back that is a problem and that is something that they are going to look to address and as I wrote the most interesting aspect of this at least from my perspective is mie bets do you play him at Short Stop All Season or if you can get a short stop which is unlikely then do you move into second base and move on from McGavin Lux in some fashion I don’t know what’s going to happen they’re comfortable with mookie at shortstop he is comfortable there he’s has said repeatedly it’s really hard but he likes the challenge but that is something to watch for sure with them mook’s playing second today by the way roas is playing short for the first time this year so maybe you have your answer right there you know maybe maybe there’s a start of something the position has been they don’t think roas at 35 or whatever he is can be an everyday guy that’s why they’ have not gone in that direction could change lots of things could change true all right so before we let you go Ken I have to say this since I’m not going to see you again before I go to Jolly Old England I need some recommendations from you because you’ve been to London twice now for a game so what I need to do and don’t say Big Ben Parliament the London I’ve done all that I need something that only Ken Rosenthal would do in London that I need to do maybe there’s like a small place I could go AJ you know me on the road I don’t do a whole lot of anything and that was true even in London last year I forced myself to walk around and take in all the sites because you have to do that you don’t get many chances to go to a place like London that that is my favorite thing to do in any City just walk around that’s that’s how you get the best feel of it uh but I I know you’re asking which club that I’m frequenting and which place you can go to and have a good time uh I don’t have anything sorry man no I just meant is there something that I haven’t seen I’ve been to London a few times there is there like a f a favorite Pub that you had or a favorite fish and chip spot that you had or favorite pie shop you went to no nothing like that now AJ I don’t know if a man of your class and stature would ride the tube but that’s a cool experience yeah never actually I’ve never ridden the two you should it’s nice it’s it’s not the New York City subway yeah try what I wish the New York Sub City subway would be that or or what they have in Japan whatever they call that their trains are sick I’ve been on that one that one that one their trains are sick so yeah and if you listen to Fair territory this week Ken actually did mention that I said we don’t get out much we’re working hard the writers But Ken appreciate the time we’ll talk to Ken will be doing Dodgers Yankees that weekend so he’ll be living that’s right yor that’s right but first you can catch kenar on Fair territory Ken thank you and you you want to say uh toodles to to AJ see in the L no Scott I just want to apologize for my assignments like I have a choice I apologize to AJ that I no I’m not I’m happy I’m going to London I didn’t I don’t even apologize for anything right so everyone’s happy he’s got the big series you’ve got your trip overseas which you H series Mets Phillies you know kou is gonna be watching you got one VI yeah there you go Ken thank you we’ll see you on Fair territory tomorrow thanks guys appreciate you fair territory live Thursdays 12:30 Eastern of course every Monday you get the show with Ken but a lot of Rizzo added to the mix on Thursdays and if you have questions we are getting to that time of year trade deadline time hop into Fair territory ask those questions we will get to as many of them as possible and but when I say we I mean our ft Fam I’m not on that show but Alana will handle that and so will Ken let’s get to our picks [Music] today so I lost I’m cold right now ft heater lost ft heater still very very in the Plus for the year so it is what it is Kats won good job on the parlay with the Braves and the Blue Jays and AJ won because he picked a game that didn’t happen so that’s a void JY Jones uh jar Jones did not make it today to that number no well good news for anyone that’s unaware if you pick a game and there is a weather situation it gets void so you’d have to pick it again if that’s what don’t let me pass Scott on that money list oh don’t let me don’t let it happen I’ve already cres in my mys in my rearview mirror don’t let me get past got four fig pator I don’t I don’t want our fans I don’t want our fans to be chasing okay I don’t need a little chasing going on for AJ you like live dangerously AJ I’m let don’t let me pass you Scott that’s all don’t I will I’m nice like that I’m not as competitive as you think but Pap is what do you got for us Pap what’s up my people foul territory foul territory Nation parlay P I’m getting ready Hall of Fame inductions with the Red Sox tonight so I’m getting all tight up and uh here’s my picks today I got a three- game parlay uh Blue Jays the Yankees and the Padres all in the money line and I’m putting $100 on it and we’re going to get the money after the Hall of Fame day let’s do it amazing wait is he going in the Hall of Fame yes I don’t know he is it’s his announcement or whatever induction ceremony yeah IND that’s awesome the hair what a barber shop that is I know I don’t frequent barber shops my buddy owns a barber shop and he’s got sports memorabilia that dude had lilacs like hanging hanging down from like Gothic Globes and stuff would you expect anything less from Pap no absolutely not wait who did he take today he’s already lost because the white socks are winning today um Blue Jays he took the Blue Jays Yankees Yankees obviously Padres not bad uh by the way the he always picks on like the bad teams that is what he does and that is the best way to win a parlay he’s up he’s up 2024 Red Soxs Hall of Fame inductees the players are Trot Nixon Jonathan papon and Dustin padrea oh that’s cool okay congrats Pap yeah way to go P who wants to go next I’ll go I’ll go I’m picking on I’m picking on my Brewers they have a 27% strikeout rate against lefties they are hitting 214 as a team with like a 360 slugging percentage so I’m going Shota imaga to do what he’s done all five of his last starts and six of his nine starts this season I need him to get seven punch outs and I’m going first five innings under what did I say under five runs yeah under five and a half and that’s coming out at plus 130 and I’m putting 100 down because Bryce Wilson also has given up less than two runs two or less runs in every one of his appearances because he wasn’t always a starter boom I like it there you go AJ uh I’m simple there’s a game being played in Colorado and the Cleveland Guardians are playing in that game and the first game of that series there was 14 runs scored last night there was 20 runs scored and tonight is Logan Allen versus block Tai block yep and the over under is 11 and that seems low to me so I am taking the over and the other thing is when I looked on my bed M MGM M over 11 was minus 110 under 11 was minus 110 so they don’t really know what the [ __ ] going to happen today so I’m taking the over because the Guardians score like 10 runs a game now they went they can’t hit to like the best damn offense you’ve ever seen all of a sudden and the Rockies they always find a way to score a few at home so I think this easy over minus 110 give me my money we’re both watching the same game I’m just watching Logan Allen’s strikeouts last two outings for him he’s put up a seven spot and the Colorado Rockies are up there in the strikeout Department I know it’s a highish number if you look at the whole year for Allen but where are the Rockies at they are top five most strikeouts as an offense so far this season so I’m going to take Logan Allen’s K prop four and a half I’ll take the over I think he gives him a little bit of length and I think he gets to at least five I could see him getting to that seven spot again did it against the angels and he did it against the Minnesota Twins The Swinging Miss twins so we’ll see if he stays hot and putting down 110 no 120 to win a hundo all right once a day you can play the free-to-play bmgm swing for the fences game for a chance to win daily prizes you can play as the batter and you pick an area of the strike zone we did this last year so they’re running it again you get a single double triple Homer or a fly out you play once a day if you’re an account holder and you have the opportunity to win a reward if you get a knock reward types include parlay boost tokens odds boost tokens SGP boost tokens and bonus spins if you’re in an eligible Casino State otherwise also bonus bets all rewards expire in 24 hours okay first off like to mention that North Side territory is live an episode just went up if you want to check that out if you’re a Cubs fan and you want to learn more what about where the Cubs are at right now um especially the Ben Brown Freddy Peralta matchup from last night which was awesome I caught a good chunk of that ninth inning was stressful too the Cubs almost added on I think it was Bases Loaded I don’t remember who was on the mound but he he did not have it and then someone bought him uh out of the inning with uh with a little Chase on a on a strike three pitch trying to remember who it was but anyway they get to the bottom of the ninth who was it pagero um no I’m trying to figure it out right then in the bottom of the ninth uh what’s face Yelich gets on and adamus got a two strike two out adamus gets the two- strike two out Knock great after a b that was very questionable was it a B I mean technically he kind of didn’t stop he kind of like rolled through his which is what they call but that’s what led to him scoring yo yo right away let’s also not forget the uh robbery by Bellinger awesome yeah doas had home that’s right by the way they took down the Tory Hunter thing where he robbed Barry Bonds just saying preserve the that was to preserve the no hitter at the time mhm yeah the dude for the Brewers took that line drive off his elbow yeah Miguel we don’t have a report on him do we because he I mean when every time you see a pitcher get hit by a pitch and they just walked to the Dugout like he didn’t even try to get the ball he just grabbed his arm and went right to The Dugout and that was how they scored their run I mean one of their million runs in Extra Innings it’s not fractured but that was Trevor Miguel tough injury for him so if you want to learn more about that game North Side territory it’s hi Dave Sharma Patrick Money cover it for you and lastly I know there were one or two people in the chat saying WTF why did they take out Ben Brown when he had a no hitter going what was 89 pitches no he was a 93 93 sorry 93 pitch I think 80 something would had been his career high I mean obviously everything’s new he’s a rookie this year they weren’t gonna let him go 120 no could they have gone a drop longer yeah but he wasn’t getting the full nine innings yeah so either way like maybe you bought yourself another but it it wasn’t happening but plus they had a one to nothing lead and they were they wanted whoever the reliever they brought in have a clean inning y so Craig council’s like I want uh who’ they bring wineski I think it was him first maybees gave Wiki gave up the hit so he came in first but he wanted to have a clean inning y like let’s say Ben Brown goes out there and gives up a double you know then he walks out the field like but you know seven Innings 93 pitches career high way to go it’s a standing o you know from his teammates and everybody’s in there high-fiving him and was a great job dominant dominant tons of whips he was great all right a few other notes Marcus Simons add the lineup today for the first time since is this right wow May 12th 2022 it’s been couple years he has been playing hurt he collided with uh adolis Garcia on May 18th that’s not a dude you want to run into I was at that game he took a face plant I did that game it was a face plant and AD dois is a rock he is a big dude he’s a house there the Rangers are off Thursday too so you get the two days off in a row we mentioned this with Ken but Mookie Betts at second base for the first time in a month and migy row playing shortstop Nigo roas so you want to here’s here’s a here’s a question I’ll bet both of you guys the amount of money you’re up that Marcus Simeon gets into the game somehow today really to keep the streak going for himself I just think going pinch it or do something I mean no think long think wrong I’ll take the bet but I’m not putting my actual it’s going to make the board too complicated but I’ll just like take the friendly wager that I I think he doesn’t I think he doesn’t play Katz I think the I think the Rangers put it on Ryan Nelson today Cory Seager is absolutely on fire and they’re going to walk him and someone else is going to get a get a shot Cory seager’s got seven dingers in his last seven games is that good is is that is that what you’re looking for hernia no more hernia yeah no more hernia I Aldi’s back I mean I know it’s three Innings but good to see him back as they wait for their million pitchers to get back off the iil does by the way with that throw last night the Deep Fly ball the did you see that see that the plate yeah good tag good tag by himim the guy’s foot comes up why do they not teach guys to just run straight through home plate why do they not have the little thing that Scot I suggested where home plate puffs up don’t that’s not you guys are just not thinking 2024 like they can’t have a little hydraulic lift it goes plate you’re not allowed because if you hit the catcher they’re going to call you out yeah they won’t not if you run straight through it it’s faster you run through first base because it’s faster people don’t hook slideing the first I get it it’s a it’s a you know it’s a forced play where they’re just touching the base but run through home plate and the guy gets in your way explosion next up TJ frle back from the ilel no rehab after that thumb fracture they need him Red’s played really good ball this past weekend we’ll get to the Dodgers in a little bit but they swept the Dodgers this past weekend but you gotta make up ground quickly they’ve missed almost half their starting lineup from last now I picked them to win the division they suck they’re getting smashed by the Cardinals right now three nothing Cardinals are playing better better ball lately too Cardinals have won 11 of 14 entering today today is Wednesday lastly Jason Dominguez played the outfield for the first time in his rehab stint five innings in center field goes from DH to Outfield time he’s lurking there’s an injury right now it’s crowded but it’s nice depth to have now let’s get to the Cleveland Guardians so they beat the Rockies yesterday you had two homers from Naylor you had the goahead Homer from fry who’s been one of the best hitters in baseball this year jez will it last I’m not sure but the fact that he’s shown that he’s an above average hitter right now there some good finds for them I mean their offense sucked last year my I thought I just said this in my pick why did I pick the Guardians and over because they went from one like the worst team you’ve ever seen the hitting to a team that can Mash all of a sudden same players though not all but many of the same players same core for sure Ramirez it’s nayor Jimenez Jose Ramirez has 32 RBI in this month like I have a question for you so okay you’re playing the Guardians and I get it there’s more than just Jose Ramirez why do you why don’t you just walk him most of the time like why do you give him pitches especially in a month like this where this happens right he’s he’s on another planet right now he can’t miss look at look at his contact rate his contact rate and his Chase rate are ridiculously high he chases pitches he can hit and he can put balls in play that’s how he drives runs in he’s not that like I’m not swinging at anything on the edges he’s going to swing at a lot of pitches and make contact with him that’s why his walks and strikeouts are almost exactly the same you know that’s why he’s driving runs in and ultimately until this last stretch Naylor I know he hadit two homers uh yesterday last night but he was like 0 for 17 coming into that game last night so there’s guys that are around him that have struggled but everybody is hitting with Runners and scoring position on this team team it is it is awesome it’s to me it’s just because of Steven vote and I believe in Steven vote yeah clearly it’s doing a good job this team’s in first place they’re starting to gain a little bit of Separation too what are they entering today three and a half clear yeah three and a half clear of Kansas City I mean you’ve opened up such an advantage you know even if the twins catch everyone say is it start starting to get more believable that in the American League Central we could have one if not even maybe two wild card teams you might only get one team out of the AL West could you get one or two wild card teams out of the AL Central when entering the season where you’re like whoever wins that division gets in the playoffs and that’s it I know there’s a lot of time left but do you do you think that the Guardians and the Royals are going to fall apart or will at least one of those teams stay 10 plus games of those teams steals a wild card from AL East team might or AL West team there will be crying in the East because they’ll be like oh their division’s so much easier we don’t have to play you know they don’t have to play the white the Red Sox they get to play the white socks they don’t have to play the twins we get to play the Orioles like it’s that is kind of true I mean the tigers look mid right now you have e your competition but at least it’s a little more balanced but hey they’re playing ball so credit to him Ramirez is on fire yeah Fry’s on fire this month he’s better than Barry Bonds he said it you did if you looked at FT Twitter yesterday it all right next up AL West let’s jump around we’re getting caught up on some teams we haven’t covered in a minute where are we at on this division slash the Seattle Mariners with the big late comeback to beat Houston and Seattle’s in first place Houston’s in third five and a half games back right now of Seattle and the Astros where are they now six did we say games under 500 uh seven seven games under 500 Rangers are three games under three and a half back of Seattle Seattle gets any kind of offense they’re going to be tough yeah just any offense please give me some kind of offense um something jio swung it better last yesterday been swinging a little bit better Alex bregman actually hit a homer gave him a lead and then late the the Mariners came back but um I mean Castillo another great start uh their Bullpen did what their Bullpen does Ryan Presley gave it up last night uh just every time I think the Astros are are like coming like here they come here they come they’re going to catch him it’s like they have a game or two where you’re just like okay maybe they’re not Jose bruo for three two punchouts last night um just I don’t know I just it’s like all right we keep waiting waiting expecting oh the Astros you know we’re at 50 games now we’re over 50 games now so gosh at some point the Astros are who we thought they were which is not very good right now they got Verlander going tonight so that’s their hope you know from I think goes tomorrow so or then sorry on Friday when they play again so I think there’s there’s still hope oh no sorry arag Getti is on Thursday but you know they lost Javier again I don’t know every time it’s like every time they get my hopes up H they fall away again yeah Hunter Brown was great though yeah and he had been a disappointment pitching in Seattle for some reason it always yes that is the thing right now there was a Mariners fan in the chat earlier complaining about the offense and saying anybody that comes there turns into crap with the bat like who they were like who’s the last good acquisition we’ve had with a bat that we’ve added I was like Nelson Cruz that’s what I said I mean I’m sure we’re missing somebody but melson Cruz was good there um back to like quiet and he was good Bel Bel struggled there though yeah did he struggle I thought his last year he was yeah that’s why he had to have the Gap year in Boston because he had to rebuild his value that’s right I was thinking I was thinking he went Boston I thought I was thinking he went from there to to Boston and he had a good year but yeah um gosh it’s hard to think think of a guy that didn’t come up to their hit I love so long ago Dude That’s so long ago that that’s crazy gez Jackson said Sean dude the coolest thing ever sha figgins when he went there remember that there’s a brewery like right on the corner and they did like whatever sha figgins was hitting was the price of their beer and so like for the whole year it was like a buck cuz it was like big deal can’t hit 200 that’s so the brewery right on the corner right across from safco it’s not called safco anymore T-Mobile I think it’s called now but I think they bought that that Brewery by the way he did no I think the Mariners did oh they bought one of those they bought that Brewery so they couldn’t do that promotion anymore I guess and because it makes them a ton of money one more thing before we move to the Dodgers I just forgot to mention Stephen Quan’s been on the aisle he’s coming back for Cleveland and he was one of the best players the first month and Chang of the season so just want to throw that out there I mean is Jose Ramirez MVP in the American League right now he’s got to be in the discussion he’s making that discussion but I think Kyle Tucker is right now I mean I have a tough time even though over stto over Jose Ramirez Soo and judge I think are gonna give each other problems like for voting okay listen I love Kyle Tucker but I know what you’re gonna say after they’re not winning yeah and don’t don’t people look at his War hey look at his War guys it is true all right let’s get to the Dodgers sweeping the Mets Dodgers had lost five in a row there were some Dodger fans in the chat yesterday that we’re freaking out we didn’t really get to it that much come on you can’t freak out about a five game losing skid for the Dodgers they’re gonna have a bad week every once in a while I encourage you if you missed the segment with Ken roseen thought will listen back they will make moves at the deadline they’ll probably add a bullpen piece and the main focus for them will be making sure that the bottom of their lineup is solidified yes if Chris Taylor is hitting a buck the entire year he’s not going to be on the playoff roster we get all of that not too concerned about the Dodgers and they’re going to cruise into the playoffs which gives them the ability to let guys swing through their problems give them a little more time at least and then also they’ll be able to kind of set themselves up and give guys rest and be fully focused on the playoffs so I don’t know what happens once we get to the playoffs they could get upset just like anybody and it’s happened to them many times but I have zero concern about this team in the regular season right now and the Mets are a freaking disaster right now they’re now a season worse 10 games below 500 they’re they’re on Pace for 96 losses right now they’re blowing late leads this was the concern for me the whole time I didn’t think that the offense would be this mid but the pitching has always been the concern for me and that included the bullpen and it’s a problem they didn’t prepare themselves to be a play off bullpen in my mind I’m sorry I just didn’t see it I’d been texting my friends and fam at home the Mets fans that I’m around because they were excited this year especially when they had that little run after the slow start right and I was like guys I’m not seeing it with the pitching I’m warning you pitching is going to crumble and it has crumbled so far I don’t know if I thought Edwin Diaz was gonna have a problem like this but it’s not just Diaz so it’s just not working for this team it’s not the right combination Steve Cohen is going going to go freaking crazy over the next year he is going to trade a bunch of players at the deadline and he is going to buy a ton of players in the offseason kind of remake this roster on the Fly he he’s going to play things like John Middleton does for the Phillies krats the Phillies rebuilt for what five years with Matt Matt clench they ended up getting a couple guys out of that rebuild but not as much as they thought and eventually they were like screw it we’re rich let’s buy dudes and they bought correctly that’s what they’re going to try and do this time around I know they screwed it up last last time but I think David Sterns will be able to make some better selections for them and that’s what’s going to happen David Sterns will do a good job he’ll keep I think he’ll keep Stevie Co kind of more like in parameters but when you have guys coming out like a Max freed a Corbin Burns that’s like that’s right up Stevie’s alley you know what if they end up trading Alonzo who clearly was on the Block last year we heard rumors about him going to Milwaukee you’re going to bring back what Sterns I think I think this is what sometimes big markets miss that a smaller market like the Brewers hit well on with a joey Ortiz he’s going to bring back guys that are equal to where the organization is he’s going to bring back a guy that’s big league ready if they feel like Hey we’re g we’re in on these two free agents and it’ll make this team that much better I think sometimes the big markets are like ah we’re going to trade our best pro our best guy for like you know three low-level minor league prospects instead of getting like they did last year getting aun’s brother a guy that is double A triaa and looking to be at in the big leagues next year and I think that’s I think it’s a dangerous mix and it’s going to turn out really well for the Mets yeah but this year it ain’t happening no this ain’t the year no but yeah good bounce back for the Dodgers glass now was solid but then they get the late win and an extras you know they pour it on um Mets couldn’t hold without aino Freddy with the home Freddy loves hitting in New York boy he does then Gavin Stone was great and so is vessia for the other two innings and the thing about the Dodgers is is you know Dodgers came into this struggle and everyone’s like oh they’re playing the Mets they’ll get right back on track they did in the first game it looked like it was back to the old Dodgers and then all of a sudden boom they scor late and they scor all those runs they would take the lead and they win game two now the Dodgers are back but yeah it’s poor Mets Mets are going to met I feel bad for him I have a lot of family members that are Mets fan Scott’s a big Mets fan cries on my shoulder every day not true Cry on My [Music] Shoulder I’m a New York Giants fan not football baseball my backdrop is polo grounds as you know SC we’re not allowed to talk about other sports on this show it’s not another sport look it up kids there used to be a team called the New York GI he’s he’s old school get off his lawn get off my lawn that’s why he has it hanging in behind him touch it that’s Polo Grounds it’s for my papa B so I am a fan of the New York Giants from the Polo Grounds so and why do you have all Mets bobbleheads and [ __ ] all over my house I don’t it’s not true where y hand Santana that’s the only one well that’s cuz I made you move them all over there you got Ron Darling you got Dwight Gooden strawberry you got Hojo you got a Mets Coke bottle from 86 over there I mean there’s all kinds of Mets gear I did attend more Mets and Yankees games than most other ball clubs because I grew up in the New York area so I apologize for my influx of bobles from the Mets and the they’re like Claudia with the Braves let’s get to our next guest as we talk a little MLB Rivals with j J Fish jfish good to see you man how you doing you caught us right in the heat of a friendly debate I’m doing good glad you guys could have me how you guys doing we’re good we’re good so I actually have a fun stat baseb question I’ll save that first off let’s get caught up on MLB Rivals so give us the update on um some some features that we’re adding to the mix right now so pretty much when I’ve been on talking about M Rivals we’ve been talking mostly just about player cards and stuff but we haven’t been talking like the fundamentals of the game and so pretty much we’ve had a guide mission in the game where it pretty much helps you learn the fundamentals of the game from training and upgrading players to how to utilize them and then also actual gameplay well we just added a new guide mission that goes further into that as well to help people learn how to play the game um also we have a campaign mode which is really focused on gameplay this big this game we have M9 Innings but M Rivals is a newer version of that pretty much and it’s a lot better graphics and everything the gamep play is a lot more fun so there’s a campaign mode that they added where it takes you through different steps and it puts you in puts you in game situations so let’s say you have a man on like first and second and the goal is to score two runs and it’s like how do you want to do that do you want to bunt the guy over uh or do you want to swing away and risk a double play stuff like that so we have that to help people learn how to actual play actually play the game and then the last thing is we get a lot of questions on how do people get special cards in the game which you have your normal tier cards but then you have your impacts your primes your signature cards those are the ones that really are how you can improve your team well we have these thing called trade events and pretty much you can get a team special player normally a prime sometimes it’s a Sig and the way you can do that is there’s a bunch of different missions that require you to play pretty much every game mode it’s pretty rigorous but it’s worth it because each month you get a new special player on your team as well so that’s pretty much what we wanted to talk about today we realize we’ve been talking about cars but haven’t really been talking about how do you actually learn how to play the game no I like that it’s helpful and for anyone unaware MLB Rivals is available free QR code on your screen if you want to download it if you got some time if you’re chilling if you got a big trip coming up you want to play on the road easy to do go check it out question for you as far as stats right when you’re looking at some stats on player cards where we where are you at on wins pitcher wins so the topic came up last night Tristan McKenzie had a season High nine strikeouts against Colorado but he did give up four runs over five innings picked up a no decision his last seven starts he’s given up 15 runs in seven starts the Guardians are six and one in those games but his personal record is 0 and one in those games we’ve messed around with the debate about the stat where are you at on pitcher wins these days okay so when I think pitcher wins I go back to when NE was on the Mets and he had a losing season and was I think finished second in the sa young I I wins it’s a team thing like it’s with it being a team sport obvious I I’m more of an RA guy like when it comes to wins it like with the Reds um last year we were putting up all these runs and then we were losing games because our Bullpen was giving up all these runs as well when we were losing those games but then you also have games where you could lose one to nothing and you pitched what seven Innings gave up one run and you still get the loss so that’s why for me on wins I don’t find them as important as it when it comes to ra like what are you actually doing there that’s I just go to the ground when I think of that yeah I I bring it up because like our our show gets so in depth and we’re in our our baseball world that sometimes I forget when I talk to a friend who’s a casual baseball fan they might mix in their win loss record and I’m like I don’t know they’ll be like only two and six this year and I’m like oh okay AJ I we got the players on so for the pitchers they still care a ton about it it’s big deal to them so it’s just it’s just interesting to hear different perspectives jay fish doesn’t give a [ __ ] I don’t give a crap players you rather have a guy that’s 20 and eight or a guy that’s eight and 20 that’s all I want to know same ra the same I’m taking 20 and eight I’m with you on that I can’t matter shut same ra everything is exact same the peripherals are exactly the same everything’s the same ra FIP whip chip bip lipip who cares one’s 20 and eight with a three ra and all the same one’s eight and 20 about Innings everything is the same what part of that don’t you get I know but that’s just that’s just everything is the same would you rather have okay if everything is the exact same everything including wins and losses I just said wins or not no no I’m giving you my scenario everything’s the exact same one player has a two o Whip and one has a one double O whip which one do you want everything is the exact same besides that if everything’s the exact same the guy with the two whip is not going to have the same ra as the guy with a one whip everything’s the same one dude has 20 errors fielding and one has zero or everything is the same and one dude has just such crap obviously I’m gonna pick the guy that has had more success cool great jish in terms of what’s on the field but that means his team’s hitting I know does this translate into the game MLB Rivals because you know because what stats matter the most in MLB Rivals is it it’s obviously not win so is it AR is it like hitting stats what’s the number one hitting stat on MLB Rivals o Ops I about say well the way it goes you have it broken down by like Power contact Vision stuff like that so I believe prow goes off of home runs contact probably more average um stuff like that and then strikeouts probably play in division and stuff like that I don’t know exactly what goes into calculations but um for pitchers pretty much I guess you could have the nine and 20 guy with the two two ER and he would have some pretty high stats versus the guy that’s 20 and eight um but maybe he has a higher ra like because I know you were I know you were saying ra is the same but a guy that goes 2 and8 but his other stats are lower he’s probably gonna have a worse card than the guy that has the better individual stats versus what the win loss being eight and 20 um so I’m pretty sure that’s how they calculate in the game is more off of RA strikeouts and stuff to get movement velocity all that type of stuff and then Innings pitch would probably translate to stamina on that card as well so okay well said There You Go understood wins still matter yep they matter they do when you’re talking about someone that’s has 200 wins in the career though versus 300 wins like we do make a big deal about that so I will give you that point there you go and owed to longevity thank thank you Jay Fish great to see you hey real quick question for you guys if you don’t mind yeah before I head out okay so auna obviously just got the devastating news um about him tearing his ACL again do you guys think uh without the NL MVP reigning NL MVP that the Braves will be able to still possibly have a chance at the World Series well we had Dave O’Brien on yesterday and he absolutely he was salivating over the thought of them going to the World Series but yes I do because I think if Chris D stays I think their lineup is dep deep enough and Alex and thas is going to go get somebody whether it’s Tommy fam Kevin po whoever he goes and gets and they’ll probably bring in another pitch or two I think their pitching is good enough their lineup is still deep enough yeah it sucks that they lost aunia but I 100% believe they have still have an opportunity and you know what jayfish I’m I’m selfish like Scott I picked him to go to the World Series so I need him to get there hey yeah they did it in 21 so they can do it again say that’s why I brought it up because I’m pretty that was the same year that he tore his ACL and they did it without him at that half so I wanted to ask do you think they could do it again pretty much their lineup deep as hell I think Harris needs to step up for them I mean he’s great defensive outfielder but can he take the next step on offense for them and yeah I mean we’ll see I think anthopolos will probably acquire multiple bats I don’t know why Katz you’re shaking your head I those go ahead jish I was just going to say I agree in terms of I think if s can get back to what he was and stay healthy and then pick up a bat I I’m with you on that but go ahead and give you what you’re going to say no I just don’t think it’s on Harris I don’t think it’s on Harris I think he is a the player he is which is an above average player to me I think it’s on those two Corner guys and how they perform Kellick and Duval yeah especially Kellick because the potential is there for him to take another step of course he’s been a streaky player in his career we’ll see if you know what he does with regular playing time and probably won’t even be platooned at least for now uh great to have you on Jay Fish good to see you good question thanks for having me guys appreciate you and you can download the free game MLB Rivals scan the QR code on your screen they’re ranked battle renewal new rival series grades special cards new trade event mini games the whole deal on MLB rivals all right here we are so we are going to finish with part two of ump show today Ste [Music] right reaction across the baseball world about Angel Hernandez calling himself out he is done so we’ll flip it around here first actually I want to start with Peter gammons because I love Peter and he did say an umpire’s life is exceptionally tough from the 6 AM flights to TV commentator second guessing every call false fans too May Angel herandez SP life yeah and never again get booed someone’s gonna boo him he’s gonna be playing golf or tennis or something his family probably boo him when he walks in all right so nice words there and Joe West too he said I think y’all have given him a raw deal whether you want to believe it or not he was good at umpiring Aaron Boon said that quote uh said he’s quote wrongly been the poster child to being a punching bag for officiating and said the criticism has been unfair and over the toop Boon I love you but you’re too that’s Bo kiss ass he’s not gonna toss you anymore boony you can just being like hey look guys I love all the empires stop throwing me out because we got Savages in the bock yeah that’s not true he’s not good at his job anymore and it was good angel had a great run it’s sad it happened the way it happened but again in any other work of life if you’re not good at your job you get fired you get sent home at some point and he hasn’t been good and and I know Joe said he was good at umpiring but if you go to the balls and Strikes calls he was one of the lowest rated ones so I don’t know what Joe West Joe West is looking at different charts than everyone else in the world is and plus listen do I feel like Angel got more of it yes because also everybody because of his name was like oh what’s Angel going to do in this game what’s he going to do now there were umpires when you saw them on a card when you went into a series you’re like who’s the umpires and they would say certain names you’re like oh [ __ ] something’s gonna happen yeah and you saw aie last night on on his thing on Chicago talk about the time when he got kicked out because when they called The Box some BR the story I told or Joe West had called the Bo and then next time we had that through early just did a regular old crappy throw over and Angel Hernandez from third base I think her own plate called The Bu just to prove their point like no like that’s not that’s not it also we’re looking at balls and Strikes for stats for the most part for Angel there were tons of ejections there are tons of times where he was biting back at someone and he shouldn’t have and his missed calls were egregious so often and that is something that the computer and the stats didn’t always measure right it wasn’t just being a below average umpire it was making the mistakes really loudly that’s what stood out to so let’s not act like he wasn’t terrible he was a poster child for what’s wrong with umpiring in baseball and some umps might think cool this is somebody that everyone else can blame and look at and I get to swim through but really it was giving everybody a bad name including the sport BAS knew that and they took care of business I think I think he just you knew it he was the Pink Elephant if you tell people to not think of pink elephant that’s all you’re going to think of if you think Angel Hernandez people are going to be on edge in the first borderline call people are G to freak out oh Angel oh so it was some unfair criticism in the level of the criticism that he got he should have been criticized yes but I can name off four other umpires they’re just as bad that got zero zero level of criticism compared to these guys okay and then what about Evan Cohen who said on ESPN Radio are we sure this is great for baseball I listened to what he said on the show and he was a little tongue and- cheek because he also brought up I think an NBA ref basically he said there are certain notable names in officiating that actually bring attention to the sport even if it’s negative attention sometimes you think that actually matters I feel like in the big in the big Mogul of professional sports hockey basketball like not all good publicity is is or all bad publicity is publicity like yes in football people know Ed Hockley for his muscles people don’t watch the game for Ed Hockley whoever the guy Evan con was talking about in the NBA people don’t watch it for that it it it pequs interest it like shows guys like oh you know this is the guy I remember this guy people remember Angel Hernandez I don’t know that it brings more eyes to the game nobody’s going to a game hoping Angel Hernandez is behind the dish no people actually see that he’s behind the dish and they’re like oh crap like they’re pissed it it creates more Fury that’s unfair though that’s unfair it’s true though that’s what I’m it doesn’t matter because but here’s the thing if I saw especially in the last year or two that he was going to be calling balls and Strikes for a game that I was watching I didn’t say oh his hit percentage on balls and Strikes is going to be much worse than every other umpire I didn’t say that I didn’t say oh he’s gonna have the worst percentage of anyone in baseball this year I said something ridiculous might happen in this game and it’s gonna be his fault that’s what I said and I was like and I’m gonna get pissed about it and some other team’s going to get pissed about it and maybe a fan base is going to get pissed about it and it’s going to make it seem like amateur hours going to make it seem like it’s not professional right you get to the big leagues you want everything to be pristine the uniforms the umpires the game play it should be first class and I didn’t feel like we were getting that especially lately but I’m saying the the the unfair part is it’s not just him I can give you I can give you four other names right out the right out of the gate that are going to do something clown show and you’re right angel angel got Angel got the brunt of it you’re right but if you gave me those other four names I would say there should be buy out offers for them too if you suck you suck and it’s beyond the numbers it’s numbers and instances and that’s what we have the combination of that causes problems hey sometimes a little drama is fun and interesting I get it but if it’s the same dude doing dumb [ __ ] like tossing people from games when they shouldn’t be that hurts the sport so we just can’t have it that’s all it’s a good talk all right let’s slap [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hands good one today and a little reminder uh I’m wearing the foul territory Moooo!!!
Bring on John Mozeliak or Will Clark.
You must never call the London Underground The Tube, you'll get a lot of funny looks. Its The Underground lol
If everything else were the exact same I would consider the pitcher with worse fip or the fielder with more errors because there may be a chance for improvement, which could lead to even better results. It's debatable, but I'd consider it.
