this is get up on ESPN I’m Mike Greenberg in New York we have a full program today with all that you would expect including game six and seven in the NBA all the hockey highlights that you would look for and more on the NFL schedule release but we begin with breaking news from the PJ championship in Louisville at Valhalla Golf Club where the second round of play has been delayed it was due to start about 45 minutes ago at 7:15 eastern time this morning play has been pushed back after a deadly accident involving a shuttle bus and a pedestrian outside a Valhalla Golf Club that caused massive traffic delays which in a separate incident involved the number one golfer in the world Scotty sheffler was detained by police this morning in handcuffs on his way to the golf course he shot four under 67 yesterday and was right in the mix after winning the Masters just a few weeks ago now his status for today and the rest of the weekend is to say the least very much uncertain as it happens our Jeff Darlington who was at Valhalla covering for us was there and witnessed the entire incident that took place involving sheffler and law enforcement Jeff your coverage this morning has been extraordinary but so many people joining us here now at the top of an hour take us through everything that you saw right from the beginning well greeny as you could see in some of that footage it was a very chaotic situation this morning already outside of Valhalla Golf Club as police were responding to a separate incident down the road it resulted in road closures and ultimately was only a situation where uh officials and players could get to the point where they could even approach the Valhalla entrance but what happened next was certainly surreal there was a bus that did not have a driver in it that was still sitting outside of the main gate of Valhalla Golf Club police were trying to figure out how to get that bus moved Scotty Sheffer was in a vehicle two behind that bus Sheffer attempted to drive his car on a road that was jammed with vehicles onto the side medium uh plenty of space on that Medium where Sheffer could move his car around toward the entrance a police officer in a yellow jacket like those ones you’re seeing there approached sheffer’s car told him to stop Sheffer continued to drive his vehicle at which point the officer attached himself to sheffer’s car sheffer’s vehicle then drove another 15 to 20 yards making the left into Valhalla Golf Club before coming to a stop at that point the officer took his flashlight and start to bang on sheffer’s car telling him to open the window or open the door to get out of the vehicle sheffler lowered the window the officer then ripped the door open pulled sheffler out by the arm pushed him up against the vehicle placed him in handcuffs at that point I approached Scotty Sheffer and the officers Sheffer turned to me and said can you help me uh the officers then confronted me told me to step step back I informed them that I was a member of the media at which point one officer told me there’s nothing you can do he’s going to jail another officer then approached me shortly after with a pad in his hand and said to me could you please tell us the name of the person that we arrested so did not seem to know that it was Scotty Sheffer the number one golfer in the world for whatever that’s worth and however that factors into all Scotty Sheffer greeny they also when they Place him in the back of that vehicle uh they put him in handcuffs they then uh at one point removed the handcuffs at which point it felt like the situation was becoming diffused they allowed him to adjust his wrists before then placing the handcuffs back on him Sheffer attempted to get the attention of the officer who did put him in the handcuffs originally and pulled him from the vehicle to tell him that he did not know he was a police officer uh the police officer did not respond to shuff’s attempts to explain himself in the situation I should explain much of the video that you were seeing here was actually shot by Jeff on his phone and we have a portion of it that will give you a pretty good sense of what happened including you’ll be able to hear Jeff’s voice and some others pretty clearly and that might give you an even better picture of exactly what took place this morning so Cindy when we can let’s play that guys guys guys dude uhuh step back back up I’m back G one right guys what do we I’m staying back here’s the thing right now right now he’s going to jail okay okay he’s going to jail and it ain’t nothing you can do about it period there’s there’s nothing you can do about it okay I okay now you do you have a question I’m I’m media I’m a reporter Okay so that’s all I’m just I just want to make sure that’s okay but you need to step back over here now problem you got it okay okay all right so that’s a little bit of a sense of what it is we are receiving a report right now the PGA informs us that as of this moment Scotty sheffler remains in custody his tea time like everyone else’s has been pushed back a little bit over an hour an hour and 20 minutes he was due to tea off this morning at 8:48 eastern time which would some quick math would tell me that 10:08 a.m. eastern time would now be the time that he and his group of three would be scheduled to be on the first te we have no way of knowing now whether or not he’ll be able to play there Jeff what else can you tell us there what are we missing here for the folks who are watching at home what a surreal morning greeny uh I mean I can simply tell you that what felt like U certainly a chaotic entrance to Valhalla Golf Club uh was something even more chaotic once sheffler was placed in handcuffs the one thing I I can’t emphasize enough here is it was already a very stressful scene outside of Valhalla Golf Club all of these police cars that you’re seeing were already there they have nothing to do with Sheffer uh they were result of another incident that was down the road that occurred and caused police to shut down this road many of the police officers were dare I say on edge they were simply um you could tell that that it was a stressful morning you could feel that in the air based on traffic flow at a big golf event like this but this was hours before anybody was scheduled to tee off Sheffer arriving to the course very early to begin [Music]

What a moron. He'll get a slap on the wrist at worst. Laws for thee but not for me.
Being a PGA pro has nothing to do with the situation. At the same time, this is the police department involved with the Brianna Taylor killing.
More excuses!
Scotty Scheffler was arrested not detained get your facts straight ESPN
Keep the game classy, no thugs in this sport😡
How dare they treat an entitled white man this way !!!
What does this have to do with the Jets?
Because he turned and drove his car on the right shoulder?!?! Are they serious???
Other times when the bat-speed demons drive their Mustangs and Challengers all over civilization and the LEO's never lift a finger to pull them over. Dont give a flip that he's a millionaire golfer, typical back-woods bs!
Redneck "heroes" keeping the community safe.
Stupid police dipshits. What an embarrassment
Way to go Louisville!
Bro made a shank before he teed off 🔪
Okay so the moral of the story is here this guy have never heard of he's a professional golf player number one in the world supposedly he's got a tournament or something going on at this golf place and he is just trying to get around the police to get in so he can practice or play his golf I'm having a hard time understanding why they're going to arrest this man for just trying to do what he's good at doing best he wasn't hurting nobody bothering nobody just like when we see a police barricade and we want to get around it to go about our day everybody's talking bad about him I don't know what he's ever done bad maybe I haven't seen how the guy really is but come on you're going to arrest a man for just wanting to drive around where the police already has no affiliation with what's going on where the police are I side with Scotty😊 and you can take that to the bank
Oohhhhhh, he's tee'd off. Trust me.
entitled golfer thinks he's above waiting and/or obeying police? let's wait and see. ☮️
Now you see how my people get treated
Back the blue until they give you a instruction 😂
Crime scene dude !why did not he understand ?
Police power tripping for sure ,they love the adrenaline trips and make elephants out of ants
Popo not happy about driving through an accident scene, tee time waits on no one.
That wild
"a hole in one" has a different meaning in prison
Why did the police officer jump on the side of his car like Batman? Maybe don’t do that?
Louisville PD strikes again!
I bet scheffler uses the foot wedge when he plays golf.
SENATOR NcCONNELL SAID NOBODY GOES OR MOVES TO KENTUCKY UNLESS THEY WANT TO DIE. SO I GUESS HE GOT OFF LITE LOL THE PGA AND PLAYERS BETTER RETHINK GOING THERE NOTHING GOOD HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE FIRST TOURNAMENT WHEN ALL THOSE PEOPKE WE MADE SICK FROM NO WATER. HOW MANY WILL HAVE TO DIE BEFORE YOU GETOUT OF THERE????
Can you imagine how much cop dong you would have to inhale on the daily to think the police did their jobs correctly in this instance? 😂
I see to many cop videos where they get their feelings hurt and ramp up the tension.
What I want to know is who on earth jumps onto a moving car?
The yellow jackets in the video [4:29] have varying amounts of identification as police. The very first frame shows the back of an officer where it is very clear, but his partner to Scheffler's left does not have the same thing. The officer addressing Darlington may have something in reflective tape on his upper right chest, but nothing like the first officer in the video. This supports Scheffler's claim that he did not know they were officers, or even golf club security.
He should have just complied. Spoiled brat frat boy golfer thinks rules don’t apply to him.
the officer had the over on scottie it back fired
Seeing a lot of entitlement comments but Scottie was given instructions on how to enter by the tour and he did so.
And he survived the wrath of the police, and bailed out and played in the tournament? White privilege. Not so for Louisville resident Breanna Taylor.
Cop: He's gowin to jeel
Gestopo Nazi cops. A bunch of thug boot jack thugs. Can't have triggers as cops.
The police were investigating a FATAL accident. Road closure. Full Stop. Do not pass go. The Police were doing their job. Of couse we live in a world of privilege and along comes the best golfer in the world. Which the coppers have no idea who this guy is driving thru a potention crime scene. They do the right thing and fullfill their duties and arrest the guy. But wait!? Hes a pro golfer!! OMG the cops are wrong and heavy handed. Mmyeah ok. So what if that was your mom or dad? Sister brother or the most important person you just lost? Would you want someone driving thru the scene? Potentionally destroying evidence ? The police have one shot at this to gather ALL evidence take measurements photos etc to get it right. The cops did their job. The majority of the comments on here have no clue . God help us 😅
These misunderstandings in chaotic situations happen all the time. Let's be grateful a tragic event wasn't made worse.
15-20 yards is like 2-3 car lengths. People acting like he was OJ in the white bronco or something.
Being the number 1 golfer in the world this potential felony will most likely be dropped. Scary to think what happens to victims of police officers power trips when they aren’t mega famous
Let’s all hold a moment of silence for the Louisville Chamber of Commerce, because nothing they can do for the next several years will convince any sane business or person to go to Louisville. That town is out of control.
Great for PGA dying ratings
It was a traffic infraction at the most. All the other charges are made up by a moron cop who fell down ruined his pants and got embarassed.
