brilliant work as always Alex Kook talk sports Chief football correspondent speaking to Russell Martin newly promoted uh manager and he’s going to be one of the youngest managers in the Premier League alongside Kieran McKenna only 38 years old he’s had Sunrise yeah and of course you know he’s gonna celebrate tonight but he’ll be pinching himself tomorrow realizing that he is a premier league manager and he’s got a lot of work to do you know you look at any team that gets promoted you’ve got to sort of add four or five top quality players and that will be St from Tuesday B holiday tomorrow uh for him because he’s going to have to put some work in but oh fair play to him and and what he’s done there because um the expectations Pally after had that tricky run I think he lost four games on the tro at one stage and the fans seven at one point I think it had got it had got really quite horrendous at one point for them but he um you know it’s like anything the margins are so fine between success and failure you got to get yourself in the room though he got yourself in the room he’s got in the final today so you get you you need quality to do that but today um and the difference between the two teams was just very fine margins like it was yesterday yeah and and some great over the two days of football that we’ve had man the Manchester Derby yesterday and the game today some unbelievable defending really first class doubling up filling the holes goalkeepers playing well big shout out to Alex mcfi out at Palace with me uh great lad and great to see him in goal today and uh and go going up again and not just that I mean listen I kind of feel that Alan py needs to take all the credit for Southampton going up today because you actually gave the goal scorer Adam Armstrong his debut yeah I didn’t give it to Adam at Southampton though that was at Newcastle he was a young player with me and um terrific player by the way so Chu for him that he’s got this winning goal today as as they talked about earlier his record in the Premier League wasn’t great in terms of goal scoring but he’ll be better for it this year this time around it’s that 24 goals I think that that one today has taken him up to and he’s he’s a natural finisher I loved him at Newcastle we had Great Hopes for him uh and he’s obviously he couldn’t quite break him we top talent when you’re at Newcastle he yet to go away like most players go into championship and he’s done well and he’s he deserves he’s go crack at the Premier League um but you know I my time at Southampton you know I remember when I took over there with were minus 10 points with with no one literally not a team Adam Lana was basically it he he was in the Royal box wasn’t he it was in the Royal box today and um so you know it’s the they’ve had to fight their way um up and down up and down but they’re back again and now it’s about stabilizing they’ve got to do what gron have done and what palace have done now is build each year a stronger team so that that relegation threat doesn’t isn’t around um because it will be around for next year for sure as you found out being a loosen fan you know you but once you get over that hurdle that second year is a little bit easier hopefully and then third year and fourth year you should have enough quality because you’ve invested you know in in players and recruitment uh to stay in the division for for a period of time and start hunting on us they have got a bit of work to do because four of their players that are part of this promotion winning campaign were on loan yeah um some from Bournemouth as well will go back and you know it feels as if I listened to an interview that uh I think it was crookie that did in fact it was crookie did with David Brooks obviously we know his story very well went because he wasn’t getting first hit regular football at Bournemouth and has been you know great when he’s played for for Southampton you know those are the kind of players that you think it it sounded like he might want to say stay with Saints and and you might get that yeah now of course and you know like Celtics match winning yesterday was On LAN you know all these all these players that go out on loan they go to clubs and they have great success that doesn’t mean to say that they’re going to go back to their to the to the home club uh the club that actually own the contract and and and and feel that they can produce that sort of football there so it’s actually better for everybody uh particularly if they’ve done well on loan to do a deal with a club and there’ll probably be some deals between Bournemouth and Southampton I’m sure um but you know he has to look further a field than that because you know you’ve got to bring in my experience of the Premier League is you’ve got to bring in two three real kind of nowed on uh Premier League uh players when I say Premier League players not necessarily premier league but bundes League you know or or you know establish Top Flight established Top Flight players you can give you that n and that and carry the team and um um but he’s got a lot of work to when you go in the playoff final of course you’ve lost two weeks of the window already um because um you know the season ended for the Premier League they’ve already started hunting players you you it moves so fast so you’re on the back foot a little bit um so need to do some catching up we’ve got loads of text messages coming in on 81089 put your names on them by the way so we can give you a shout out this one has comeing uh no name on it but Saints didn’t sell all their players when they went down maybe they can pull some back also Flynn DS on loan from West Ham and David Brooks feel like they want to stay there are seven teams who can fight at the top of the Prem as 2012 we just need to get in the mix of the others and you know that it’s going to be it’s it’s going to be difficult it always is in that um promotion season but of course they had the parachute payments from when they went down the season before as did uh Leicester city who have gone up as well so you know but then Lester are going to start off with a points deduction potentially so well Lester have got issues and so Mays which they might be losing their manager of course who’s been touted around as a the sort of the hot property and League’s manager League manag Association manager of the year so um you know they might have some upheaval in terms of a new manager coming in so that’s going to be disruptive so in a way Sampson sitting okay I don’t think the manager’s going anywhere um they’ve got they’ve got looks like they’ve got room to bring players in financially so they’re in a decent position and uh hopefully they can see it through he was qu that did make me laugh when he said to cookie uh staying in the job long enough to enjoy those places is is goal one yeah you know he knows it listen those first six to 10 games whoever you are in the Premier League whether you’ve been promoted or you’ve been established Premier League manager or you the Liverpool manager even the club you know those if you don’t win those games if you if you’re if you’re in in trouble in that period the media can’t wait to jump on somebody particularly talk sport here we love jumping on managers or you know some of people on this so on this we’re more reason of course not they um you know it’s uh it’s the it’s the nature of the Beast and unfortunately you become untenable sometimes and uh and that that’s what he was referring to so yeah he knows the the next challenge is always the biggest one yeah and I think that is going to be the case for Daniel farer for sure don’t worry leads fans we are coming to you I promise but let’s squeeze in a Southampton fan uh before we break because George has been hanging on the line for us your first Wembley experience George how was that oh brilliant absolutely brilliant talk me through the game from your perspective well watching watching along it’s very hard sometimes especially especially for the occasion it’s very hard to watch the sort of pressure build and the pressure build as soon as we got that goal I just thought we were in total control they they were on top of you in the first like 15 20 minutes though weren’t they they started the game really quick that’s what I mean it gave it gave me a little bit of nerves but I know that that’s I was expecting that but as soon as that goal came it made it so much more comfortable it nervy being one nil the whole game but and certainly that first goal can give a confidence to a team and particularly when you you know you know Defenders your Midfield everyone feels a little bit more stronger the your fans are with you a little bit more man united had it yesterday when they got gifted that first goal so you know it’s so important that that that goal that’s that’s what it is it sways the game as well on way up here you sort of listening to the buildup and it seemed like everyone wanted leads to win even the ref in my opinion everyone wanted Saints to lose and I feel like there’s nothing you can do I’ve I said all the way up if Saints play their best there’s no way we lose and I think that’s what we did today you win a game and everyone still has a go at the referee that’s unbelievable George take the win listen what do you think your team needs to do ahead of the Premier League season where are you looking to recruit um I don’t know with players with players to get a hold of I don’t know I think it’s more so a thing of now making sure that if we do you know continue playing the way we play it’s just we need to enhance we need to be quick we need to be strong we’re good defensive I think but we just got to step up that little bit going into the Premier League yeah brilliant wish you the very best of luck enjoy today enjoy the celebration enjoy the ride home George enjoy there you go did you by the way before you go George did did you hear pods opening uh When the Saints Go Marching In did you hear that oh yeah oh we heard all of that yeah see still got it still got the old songs well thank you very much good luck take care see you later George on his way back home uh from Wembley first Wembley experience that’s what that’s what you want is it and you know that Stadium I’ve been there many many times uh as a guest and a manager or whatever and it’s always it’s always a joy that Stadium particularly when it’s full I mean you know there’s nothing uh there’s nothing more emotive than uh than Wembley and all the history that it carries uh and you can feel it and sense it when you’re in there and young fans I had two young fans uh Rory and Zach who went along to the Man United game man united fans they didn’t have great hope yesterday uh and they’ve had the time of there live so it just goes to show it builds those memories doesn’t it I think I’ve cried more at Wembley Stadium than I have anywhere else yeah not as much as me I’ve cried a few times there three times in particular oh no no let’s not let’s not bring the show a downer listen it’s a day of celebration for Southampton fans we want to hear from you especially if you’re making your way to the South Coast from Wembley but Leeds fans I’m so sorry it’s a long way back to Yorkshire another year in the championship what did you make of all of that 371 7234 is the number we want you to call we’ll hear from you next on the final word phone in on talk sport on am on da via the talk sport app and on your smart speaker talk sport

  1. FAKRE OUT! Simon Jordan get invested in the club we need a top LAD proper clobber in around the club

  2. So sick of these small Southern pathetic clubs with hardly any fan base and no history getting into the PL (1 FA cup does not constitute history). Ipswich, Brentford, Bournemouth, Southampton, etc. Just cannon fodder to take up space but have no global appeal and just water down the PL product. Need a Super League.

  3. My god you haven’t watched the whole league. Fair play Southampton on the day but he’s beyond bang average. One of the most one sided play off finals , they were terrible.

  4. At not point did saints lose 7 in a row this season – this woman is paid to talk rubbish

  5. Hey, and if Martin gets Southampton relegated, its ok because Bayern Munich will give him a job! 😂😂😂
