Contested each May, the PGA Championship is the second major championship in golf’s annual rotation, and perennially features the strongest field in the men’s game based on the Official World Golf Rankings. Known for dramatic finishes and notable champions, the Wanamaker Trophy—which has been awarded to the winner since 1916—is inscribed with names such as Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player.
The 2024 PGA Championship is set to take place between 13-19 May at Valhalla Golf Club. The reigning champion is Brooks Koepka.

Xander shafley joins us now at the 106 PJ Championship Xander a heck of a start for you today what are your thoughts on your round yeah it’s a great start to a big tournament um one I’m always obviously always going to take and it’s just Thursday it’s about it great thanks we’ll open up for questions starting with Dan over here do you feel like you’re playing the the best golf of your career right now probably yeah I feel I feel you know there’s spurts of you know moments in time where you feel like you can control the ball really well you’re seeing the greens really well you’re chipping really well but um over a prolonged period it’s tough to to upkeep you know high performance but yeah I’d say it’s it’s it’s very close to it if not if not it and JT was saying that you’re hitting it so much further how much of an advantage has that given you on on golf courses this year yeah definitely a big Advantage I mean I mean I felt like out here it you’re you’re just eyeing the Fairway most times it doesn’t really matter if you you know Fly ball 325 yards if it’s in the rough it doesn’t do you any good you’d rather be 300 yards in the middle of the Fairway so um but I think overall you know just knowing that I can kind of get the ball out there pretty far without having to go at it all the time is a pretty good feeling back to seven followed by 18 and then 16 Xander mentally speaking after a round like this do you take tomorrow and and wipe the Slate clean or do you use this as something to build on tomorrow knowing what you’ve already done today a little bit of both teeing off you know two something tomorrow um you know the course is going to be the greens will be probably a little bit bumpier with a you know a lot of foot traffic coming through um who knows with the weather it might rain so the course might be playing completely different so uh just know you know going to bed knowing that I’m playing some good golf um but pretty much wipe this L clean 18 sander do you know the last person to shoot 62 in a major um I don’t did I get it in before Ricky you were after him there you go the last one okay which round would you say was was better if you compare those two days I don’t know I mean I can’t nitpick I’ll take a 62 in any major uh any day when you think back on this round what’s the what’s the shot or the putt or the uh that you’re going to remember most probably 12 the whole I played the worst um kind of pull pull drew a three-wood there um I asked Austin how far we have the pin he’s like 225 out of the rough and I thought you know this is going to be a pretty tough par um so I kind of hacked it up there and then pitched it up somewhere on the green to 15 feet and was able to make that putt early in the round which was which was really big for me 16 uh Xander uh we’ve talked before about the difference between not winning and quote unquote failure um obviously this this game is just the way it is you don’t you don’t win most of the time how do you cultivate resilience and how do you kind of hang tight to that resilience that you need yeah I mean I think not winning makes you want to win more um as weird as that is you know you just kind of for me at least I I react to it and I and I want it more and more and more and it makes me want to work harder and harder and harder so um the top feels far away uh and I feel like a lot I have a lot of work to do but just slowly chipping away at it my Kate sander uh I’m curious if you feel like you could have shot any better than 62 today I don’t really operate that way um in terms of you know wanting to go practice right now there’s always shots you can kind of pick apart or chips that you can pick apart um that you felt like you could have hit better but um I’m I’m very content with with how I played at what point in the round did you know that you were going to post a pretty low number was it early uh no not really uh you know I didn’t get up and down on 10 I was able to burd 11 and had a sweaty par on 12 so uh it wasn’t like the dream start um you know being one under one under through three probably would have been a good start for me anyways and uh you know when you shoot something low you just you kind of get lost in the in the process of of what you’re doing versus thinking about how low you’re trying to shoot all right thanks for your time Xander appreciate it thank you

This man is going to get his break-through and this week is feeling very good right now. Go get'em X-man! I think a very small change in energy management for the weekend will get him the win.
