Rory McIlroy shoots bogey-free 68 | Round 2 | Wells Fargo Championship | 2024

In the second round of the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, Rory McIlroy carded a 3-under 68 to improve to 7-under overall and sit four shots off the lead.

The PGA TOUR heads to Charlotte, North Carolina this week for the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club – site of the 2017 PGA Championship and 2022 Presidents Cup. This is the sixth signature event of the season, which features an elite field of 69 players. Rory McIlroy returns this week to a place where he’s had plenty of success. He’s claimed three victories here (2010, 2015 and 2021), as well as five top-10s. He enters this week with momentum after winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Shane Lowry two weeks ago. Wyndham Clark will also tee it up as he looks to become the first player to win back-to-back here. This was Clark’s first win on TOUR, and he has claimed two more titles since that victory – including the U.S. Open. Xander Schauffele will also be in Charlotte this week as he hopes to secure his first win. He finished second here in 2023 and claimed T25 or better in 10 of 11 events this season. Others to look out for are Max Homa, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood.

just under 600 [Music] yards yeah Roy just six of 14 Fairways yesterday but certainly didn’t matter easy wow that was a better shot than the result but up here at the bunker almost whole High Roy just going to roll it down there got caught up in The Fringe a little bit it’s still a good shot but they wanted to fly it about six more inches count three of those that he missed yesterday I’m sure he thought about that last night just outside 170 needs to keep it down for just a minute and he did just fine we saw some jump out of this rough yesterday that might have jumped right there it sure [Applause] [Music] did now Rory with his third and we’ll have that left for par and they’re singing right now you guys won’t be able to have a conversation on this screen in about a month Taylor here are the Applause for mooy here and now we know why mcginness moved to the beach [Applause] he’s not even going to bother to pick up his te he’s going to have a long walk to this ball 320 in the air I mean is he Swinging with any [Applause] confidence this is way left that’s the same same swing he made off of the 18th hole yesterday with his Drive tried to hit a big old fade in there looks like the right spot right there yeah really well done Rory mroy will have that short one to get within one of the [Applause] [Music] lead I think that was just a little hold off S off n [Music] iron obviously wasn’t able to get the spin that he wanted coming out of the rough but that’s a fantastic shot this is much easier than that looking for it to turn to the right here it comes oh my goodness was that a good putt the last 10 ft straight down hill oh look at this weight a bit unlucky to come up a little short that was better than that with this for par downhill delicate breaking ever so slightly right to [Applause] left we’ll follow that with trackman Tracer technology presented by T-Mobile for business oh and it was too much club with that swing that blade laid wide open going to hit a high flop sounded good and it was four or five ft left to par well done from over there in these areas around the greens makes these shots much more difficult kept that face pointed at the sky good shot Rory to save Park really good up and down this is on a great line needs a bounce if it’s going to get up landed pretty softly just short of the green that is not a bad spot to leave it though as firm as it is Kurt I think he’s got to land this just short of the green he did look at this oh kind of like that really well done wasn’t it landed it exactly on his spot a steady round he’s played today kurk three birdies no Bogies solid Golf Course meant for him another look at that chit chot this yard short got the hop out of there nearly hold it with left to right wins with driver the past two days not this time Frank that is pumped Johnson too on that left to right Breeze he’s actually struggled today so got to be careful not to fly it too far at it because it’ll hit a down slope this is on a great line though looks to be good weight it was just a three4 shot maoy at the nin trying to finish in style left it in a great spot up the hill Left Right [Music] putt hard to believe he’s going to be disappointed with bie 33 under today 67 yesterday 68 today three-time champ sherff second place Roy M Roy not as many red numbers as yesterday but more importantly no Bogies how would you assess this round today yeah um yeah it was solid you know it was uh I felt like I probably could have squeezed a couple more shots out of it but uh but overall really really pleased with my game and um you know it’s felt really under control the last two days which is uh which is obviously good going into the weekend on a golf course too where you’ve had success winning three times we talked earlier in the week in the week about how you expect to contend here if you had to describe why this golf course fits your game so well what would you say um I think I can if I if I’m driving the ball well I can take advantage of that more so on this golf course probably than any other course on tour um you know I can carry some of the dog legs I can carry some of the Fairway bunkers and um you know that gives me a a huge Advantage into some of these par fours so instead of you know hitting you know mid or long iron in I’m hitting you know short iron or wedges into some of the holes that uh that guys are hitting longer clubs on and on one hole it doesn’t make a difference but over the course of a week whenever you’re um able to take advantage of you know say 20 or 25 holes like that then you know that’s that’s where it makes a difference you know we talked earlier in the week too coming off that Victory with your friend Shane Lowry down at the Zur classic about how much fun that was and you kind of needed that uh how much of an emotional and mental boost was that for you coming here to the Wells Fargo yeah it was I would say that um my game was sort of stuck in neutral before that you know I’d I played you know well at the floor in the Florida swing without really getting anything out of it um you know I had that great start at the players and didn’t capitalize felt like I played okay at Augusta didn’t quite you know do what I wanted to do Hilton had the see so you know being with a partner um being able to have someone be beside you that can keep you positive you know and I was trying to keep him positive as well so um you know that I think that was a you know it was a huge week for me it was a huge week for both of us to you know move us up the FedEx Cup list and um you
