Steve Ryder is back in the host’s chair as we welcome Ken Pitterson and Kate Tracey back to the Racing Weekly panel.

We begin the show with a recap of the bet365 Jumps Finale from Sandown and recall the big winners and losers of the action at Sandown.

Later we discuss the racing from both Punchestown and Newmarket ahead of the Guineas meeting with City of Troy odds on favourite to take the 2000 Guineas ahead of Rosallion at 4/1. The 1000 Guineas is a slightly more open renewal with Fallen Angel leading the way at the top of the market.

[Music] hello I’m Steve Ryder and welcome to racing weekly a podcast and YouTube show brought to you by odd sheer in association with bet 365 with rishy still at the snooker I take the hosting chair and I’m very pleased to be alongside two friends of The Show Ken pson and Kate Tracy Kate how are you good thank you yeah the sun’s come out today so it feels like we’re finally fin getting into spring uh what that’s going to do then ground conditions wise looking further into this week is a whole other Factor but um yeah know really looking forward to the flat season getting going now yeah we’re at one of those times obviously between the flat and the jumps we’re going to have a look a bit of punches town and a little bit at New Market as well as reviewing both the flat and the jumps action obviously from Sandown at the weekend uh Ken I’m going to come to you uh obviously we’ve had a couple of weeks of of flat so far I just kind of want to try and get a horse from you that’s really taken your eye on the parade ring so far I think the problem beginning the fat season that so many horses have been behind I mean trying to find something you actually liked pic wise has been pretty difficult but the horse that that I liked last year and I saw him Mak his deut new was Salt Bay trained by rith Becket loved him last year as a horse that that didn’t hit the heights they were expecting so they went down the handicap rout and I and I know they were aimed at the November handicap you ran nice a nice race at new be AED for November handicap what did they do change the all weather so abandoned that plan so they gilled him during the winter and then he went to newbie for the John Porter and I was hoping just run a nice race but don’t show up too much runs a cracker and finishes in the first three so he’s a really nice type he’s going to make a much better four-year-old and I’m I’m really s with how far he can go this season yeah lovely horse going forward Kate slightly different question for you just one that You’ probably look for for for over jumps next season that’s really taking your eye yeah I found this really difficult barly really difficult this one because there are so many obvious candidates that we’re looking forward to for next year B bur Factor file uh so many from The Mullins Camp so actually trying to delve in and find uh a lesser exposed one them was quite tricky but Captain marvelous for the Jane Williams team I think I’m really excited if he goes chasing next year he’s only a young horse but he’s an absolute monster and he’s still doing enough wrong in his races we’ve just seen him at Kempton so far where he ran a cker on his deut Jame Williams his horses we expect him to improve with experience on the track and then he won a really weak Race by 23 lengths back over the same course in distance then he went to the Adonis and he ran a Blinder there then to finish third despite being keen and doing so much wrong but if he either goes down the handicapping route that will suit him just to help him settle or if he goes novice chasing next year with the age allowances I think that he’s a real smart one yeah one to note then for listeners away from the obvious for next season we’re coming to just coming towards the end o of the jump season we had the the uh the Championships all finish at Sandown on Saturday Willie Mullins obviously winning the trainers title Harry copton winning the jockey Championship Patrick w champion conditional as well okay I’ll come back to you around the achievement obviously of of Harry copton didn’t look likely at one stage and then Shawn Bowen’s injury probably helped him towards the end oh I know that was a frustration wasn’t it that knee injury that Shawn Bowen had but it was just a cracking battle because I know people don’t care about the jockey title the trainers titles but the way that Harry cobon and sha Bowen took it on with the fun that they had with it as well and the social media aspect that they brought to it they were just they they embraced that and I love to see it because they were just really good sports really good fun with it gutting for sha Bowen of course but hopefully he will have his time but for Harry Cobden though I mean it it was just a phenomenal achievement and he put up some fantastic posts on his own Instagram um about it as well looking back to his pony racing days so yeah I I thought it was a a cracking event then this year yeah all all those videos from The Archives around interviews when he was 15 years old and everything like that are now coming out which yeah is it’s great to see and K around the achievement of Willie Mullins the first since Vincent O’Brien to win both the UK and Irish Train championship there’s a hell of an achievement I mean when you think it is as a national hunt trainer for starters to do what he did was was incredible I mean it okay he he had a great chham and then it was from the back of chham it spring ball into him going to the National can he win the national to challenge Nichols and hend um Nichols and Dan Skelton wins the national he’s in front and then he just as he said I didn’t have a clue left it all up to the team the team sorted out where the horses would go and they had a great great end of the season anry air sand down it was just a really good end of the season and it made it made for me it made the season having that sort of competition just made the jump jump jump really good at the end of the season for me yeah I ran the figures after after anry had had 19 winners in the UK at that point and only two of them were away from the CH festival and entry Festival obviously then towards the end of the towards the end of the season Patrick Mullins ended up going to to fosas and Perth and L which was which was a good bit of fun um but it did all come down to the last day which is where we’ll start racing recap so the first race we’re going to look at is the bet 365 Gold Cup manella Kakuna beat annel Invictus by a neck under that man Danny Mullins he’s had some season Ptown end gets a lot of the plaudits rightly so but Danny Ms has also had a fantastic year those grade one winners at the dubling racing Festival obviously won the Scottish national aboard mcma and now this valy B pot Ken I’ll come to you first performance of The Horse first and foremost oh it was it was really good perform I mean he had grade one form as a younger horse he he done okay offens but I didn’t think I thought that was a really defining performance from him I mean he he traveled he got better as the race got on for me he traveled into the race and then when when when it when it came down to it you knew after air will had two hores win by a nose you just knew fate this was going to win and it got his head in front right on the line so now it was a really good performance and just everything about it was really good for the for the day I felt yeah so did I yeah I thought it was a good performance in second as well for Manuel and victus Freddy and Freddy Gordon and Chris Gordon uh not quite getting there but it was Willie mullins’s day oh yeah completely and like You’ also said then for Danny Mullins as well because Danny for all that he’s constantly on the second if not third string then for Willie Mullins to see him getting these big wins like you’ve just said in the Scottish Grand National now the vet 365 Gold Cup as well was just fantastic to see because he’s he’s had a fantastic drf for the last two seasons it just hasn’t translated to cheltam and there is no end to his optimism and confidence going into chelham year on year it’s quite funny to talk to him on the uh on the Monday or the Tuesday when he comes over cuz he just thinks he’s going to win everything and it’s just gutting when it doesn’t quite work out for him in that way but now to go to air to go to Sandown and to overhaul the seemingly first string in Nick rocket which was frustrating for me because I was siding with him but he just didn’t jump well enough Nick rocket his inexperience think came to the four he’s a small horse so I think he ran a cracker and still a horse to keep on side going into big saying handicaps next year yeah Daddy want yeah the the one that probably got away from him this season was dancing City isn’t it cuz one the Dublin racing Festival was then on him in the Albert Bartlet when he finished third and then Paul was back on Angy from there maybe one that got away from him um arguably the highlight and the best performance for me would be in the bet 365 celebration Chase John Bon I just thought was was fantastic beat El Fabiola by by four length and he’s he’s just a different horse at Sandown isn’t he oh I know exactly four from four now in here sand down as well and what a ride this was from Nico boinville where I know when nio first got on to John Bond you were kind of wondering how it was going to work out really because he was a very different Rider to Aiden Coleman but I actually bizarrely think he gets the best out of him because he treats him like a non-nonsense horse he treats him like he doesn’t have those slight H his toes Tendencies like he doesn’t get worm beforehand he just goes and makes his mind up for him and is really decisive on the horse and coming back in trip them from Angry to the mile 7 here I really like the way he made the most of his stamina he wasn’t foot perfect in the jumping department but he put that pressure on elvolo who was far worse than in the jumping department and with the salamina his Sandown record uh I just thought it was a wonderful ride for niod de boy bille and just fantastic scenes from Nicki Henderson afterwards as well yeah niiko five and five on the horse now rode him earlier in in his career obviously the the one blip this year has been under under James Bowen but yeah I thought it was fantastic it was great I mean fin enough some came to me before he says oh look at him he’s got warm I said don’t worry about him I said that is him I said you can never look look at him and say he’s going to run badly because he you never know what’s going to turn up with John Bond I mean is is a bit of a not a fruit cake but he’s he’s got his own way about it but just when niiko gets on him and gets out and sand down he jumps from the front they he’s just they just fit really well and it was a really good performance I mean as Kate said they got the rest of them under pressure and the thing with El Fabiola as much as he’s got an engine he can if you can’t jump at speed you’re going to suffer and he made one mistake at the cross fence and then you could see he was always struggling to get himself into the race where John Bon was popping away in front and Fab just couldn’t pick him up so the thing with John Bond he’s versatile he’s done over two and a half he’s done it over two interesting to see what they’ll do next year will they go two and a half will they go two no Nikki will stick at two will they even go King George no Nikki tried Nikki asked Nikki when he won at um Liverpool Nicki was saying to Nik would he get free would he get free and niiko wouldn’t commit he wouldn’t commit because I think Nikki was thinking of King George but I don’t think he’s a free mile I think two two and a half he’s a pretty high class horse yeah I said on the show last week around if you actually look at the the two mile Chasers coming from from the novice Division and there within the UK I think the next in is about hadex zobo and Edward Stone who who are all massive prices for the champion Chase so you’re going to have races like the tingle Creek if Willie mulls doesn’t send any over earlier on in that season as opposed to running over those intermediate trips where you’re going to have the likes of protector out and jinny’s Destiny going forward I I think personally they’ll stick at two miles and then make a decision when they actually get to chelam that’s very true actually like say about the divisions though and I even like for the tingle Creek because Willie Mullins this isn’t the first horse that sand down to disappoint over to Mar sh and pwar in the tingle Creek a few years ago so even then you wouldn’t be too perturbed no if we look at the champion Chase for next season John Bon now 7 to2 joint favorite with gay Warrior for the champion Chase next season Al fabiolo drifted out to 5 to1 would would you give him any chances or do we have we learned a bit about El Fabiola on his last two STS given the team he comes from and he’s got jumping problems they will sort it out I mean they will sort it out and he might jump well at home but he might but they will definitely try and get to botom of him because what we what we know about the team is that if something goes wrong they’ll analyze it and try and get it right for next time we saw that last year with the mgam um chelam when he ran over the the white fences yeah didn’t take to them they got him back home he he pinged him so many white fences I mean I’m saying wasn’t he knows what to do so they’ll get it right if if the hores got the well hores got the ability if they can get him to jump properly he’ll still be he’ll still be a major player yeah definitely there’s obviously a sad post strip for the race Alexa duts obviously with his full at the second last sadly losing his life and we’ll touch on obviously the the sad passing of shiskin as well I wasn’t expecting that News Sunday night to come through on social media Co oh no like I say it just it just pinged up on my phone and you know when it’s one of those notifications that you’re in disbelief for you think this can’t have just happened and such a freaky thing to have happened as well just in his stable after Highfield princess suffered such a similar occurrence just getting cast in a box and it just shows the fragility of these horses and that no day is guaranteed and every time we get to see these horses at their Peak Performance on track we should appreciate exactly that what it is because resources you know obviously working with them for as many years as I have you realize how fragile they are and how difficult it is to get a horse to achieve at its Optimum then on the track and and this again is just a stark reminder unfortunately of exactly that but um all of my thoughts to Jaden Lee who looked after the horse and to Nikki Henderson who even after John Bon Nicki Henderson was talking about him like he was refered to him as old the chap and he talks about these horses like they are humans and I’ve always loved that and you could hear it in his voice as well about shishkin but gutted for them gutted for alexir dut’s connections as well what a super he’s been for the yard so yeah really two sad sad losses to the industry yeah I I love that’s where the social media element of it is fantastic because your whole news feed was just full of replays of shiskin lovely photos and it’s funny I went back and watched some of his races and you kind of try and put in a top five performances for shiskin and The Supremes towards the bottom the Arles towards the bottom you kind of look at it and think well hang on a minute you’re you’ve won two of the big races at the chelon festival and actually that’s probably not the highlight care CU that’s cuz like everything it’s all about relevant isn’t it it’s all about now it’s not about what happened before and like you said when he won the Supreme I mean that was a really really Cassy performance that day and you kind of forget that because he’s done so many sins but yeah that was I mean that was a day when he’s he showed himself to be a real top quality hor yeah and those enig enigmatic Tendencies probably just warmed everyone’s Hearts to him a little bit more refusing to start and yeah yeah great horse and great memories will then move on to the BET 36 five select hurdle in Perry pass looked really back to his best Ken I was really impressed with him he didn’t need a steward inquir this time to beat Langer Dan did he no I mean he looked back to his best I was still not because I I expected so much of him this season I was still a little bit disappointing but Will’s come Willie said look I think it’s been my fault I’ve been basically running over the wrong trip this season he said next year he’s a free mile he’ll go either go chasing or go over H but he’s a free mile he’s just got a lot of quality I mean the way that race panned out I mean like he just traveled into it he he traveled up there really strongly and he couple of strides and that he was gone I mean he’s a he’s a top quality horse obviously showing that two miles is not his trip the world he oyster next year will he go chasing will he go over over he’s got a lot of choices but again the Will’s got a lot of choices to to choose from but now he’s back to his best and he’s hopefully he can show what he proved when he won the um bmore yeah CH three yeah what his name yeah yeah yeah in my day sun Alliance but yeah so yeah he’s got so many so many choices for next year for what he does with that H yeah and Parry pass 9 to one with bet 365 for the turn as next season would be a logical Target your thoughts on the race yeah like you say it was fantastic seeing Perry pass doing that and I feel like he’s one of those horses where against these Rivals we’re never gonna quite see the absolute best of him because he is Idol when he gets in front there so you never quite know where his bottom lies which is a compliment to the horse and his ability then but of course we saw that at anry and then with the controversial finish there right I do think that lodan was unlucky not to get the win there but langan’s proven himself as a greated former handicaps now there’s no hiding place of him and he won’t be going to handicaps for a long time now and the size difference between and per passing K we would have been better placed to have seen them in the padic between him and ladan but on TV at least it looked a vast difference there is a vast difference yeah is a massive difference between the two but like you said I mean handicaps I mean Master re is a handicapper wasn’t he because I mean he’s clearly a greated performance on what he’s done so far yeah and you look at how small he is like he’s like a littlear and you wouldn’t think those big field handicaps would suit him but if you got 20 pounds in hand that’s probably why but that’s also the thing though why I think handicaps suit him because you can see I do think that ladam was unlucky not to get closer to imper pass for all the imper pass as I say was idling and probably would have been helped by another horse coming to him but you you can see the way Harry Skelton rides him he tries to get him into as much trouble as he possibly can because he is a terrier and as soon as he’s facing another horse and off against them and in trouble and in the mix that’s when it drives him on more so so you can see what Harry Skelton was trying to do to get him into trouble that’s also why handicap suit him so well because you can find the trouble not as easy to do in grer contests no we we’ve given the accolades to to Willie Mullins and and the team but I thought it was a really bold decision not to run in Perry pass in the champion it looked as if at one stage they should have ran him there when Constitution Hill came out but they missed the CH the festival they’ve gone and won an anry one at Sandown so yeah I I thought it was a fantastic bit of training and race planning I suppose in order to then get two big wins towards the end of the season if you got Staten why why why put another horse against him staten’s going to win because obviously cons wasn’t there so they just shuffled their pack and they come out on top again yeah we’ll switch codes we’ll look at the bet 365 Gordon Richard Stakes I was really impressed with Oki chobi beat desert Hero by a head thrilling finish to the group three Ken we were both there on the Friday I was really taken with this performance this I I must admit Before the Race I spoke to a friend of mine and I said to him where are we with this horse I mean he’s won two races and done and literally hasn’t done anything then ran a really good race be um at kton how good is this horse but I think that was a defining performance I mean he’s massive I mean he could jump a fence he’s that he’s a huge horse and even Harry Harry chart says he weighs a lot he’s the biggest horse we’ve got in the yard but the way the race panned out it was run at a good Pace Ryan settled him nicely and I like the way when he got there even though it’s only six run he’s still got a lot to learn but he’s got loads of quality and he’s just going to improve and improve and keep going because you look at him and you look at him you think well he’s not 100% fit but he’s a big lad so the more the F the fitter he gets the more Improvement I think he can definitely be well they’re talking about group um group two now aren’t they so I think he can make his marking that company definitely yeah my eyes lit up the interviews afterwards talking around group ones even tassel’s go C the preis pan Kate do you think he could get up to that level yeah on this basis it’s like I say he’s a tricky horse to we up exactly what he’s capable of but to come back from that length of a layoff that he had had previously I think it was 500 yeah 550 days worth and to post that really solid reappearance as well on the back of um the gilding operation that he had in the meantime whilst he was off but to back it up and I know we got the 25 day turnaround so you are in my mind you’re just falling out of that like bounce Factor um remit really where I sort of say over three weeks I’m kind of happy to side with the horse again but uh so he just fell out of that but even so though this was great because they It Was a well-run Race they were strong out then turning in as well and uh and to see him going picking them up but he’s a he’s a half brother to legian though of course for St Ledger winner so seing up in trip going forwards I wouldn’t be any surprised to see further Improvement in him this was over the 10 the pedispa hands over nine I just wonder if we’re going to see even better from him when he is properly stepping up further in trip again then so yeah really likable horse and uh and with the form of desert hero who’s to say where the source of ceiling lies yeah Ken talking about steps up in trip desert hero you think he crying to go back up in trip around a really good race in The Ledger over a Marin six excellent start the Hardwick would be your obvious Target in the Kings colge at Roy excellent start I thought I mean he looked I wouldn’t say he’s grown a lot but he’s thickened out a bit but it was an excellent start for him two you can see you can see two out um Tom was pushing him he just wouldn’t respond and just just inside the final final Final F he found his stride and he finished off really strongly I think one and a half find out for him and this will be an excellent start when he goes towards the Hardwick which is the obvious Target to go for early season yeah and I thought his ra R much better in sign blinkers as well um coming on the back of a disappointing effort we also saw a good performance in the bet 365 mile Charon gave Sylvester deza a group two success for Rod jarian he’s now into six to one for the Locking Stakes if you’d have told me that at the start of the season I thought you were mad Kate yeah like further Improvement is going to be required like you say for the Locking but from everything that we’ve seen of him in those two starts this season of charin there’s no reason why he can’t be featuring in the Finish there at least and again the Improvement that he’s been showing because that reappearance success at donc cter was so likable from him it was a very winnable event though so you were just taking that form of a slight pinch of salt but he still showed a wonderful attitude he has done again then here as well going on to bigger and better things and we know plenty of Riv Varian sources at the start of the Season were just needing their first run which is very like them so uh to see him win that and to take it forwards was really likable and of course he was getting the three pound from the runnerup poker fa in here it should be said but both of them if they both turn up in the Locking uh give Under Foot though I wonder for the pair of those two might just be quite crucial enough but um yeah know I thought that was really likable and Lord nor me trying one mile for the first time since a b moral in 2019 wasn’t it so yeah that was actually a solid run from him now an eight-year-old um remains to be seen what he’s capable of now but I thought that was still a solid um effort from him but yeah Charon just such a like of attitude yeah he did have some group one form from last year I think he finished behind Paddington a couple of times in the the Irish 2000s in in the suss States so the form was there but he has progressed oh yeah really well this season I mean I saw him at Doncaster and he’s just he’s again you see a horse one year and you see him next year and you think gosh he’s he’s M he’s matured he’s developed he looked the part I mean the per performance at D was good but wasn’t a strong race but it it took his form to another level against this sort of opposition I thought was really good I mean I thought norst would make an appearance but I don’t you can trust him now I think he’s definitely got his mind on other things and to beat Pokerface who’s a a solid yard stick I think especially in this grade was a good performance and I couldn’t see why he go into the Locking why he can’t figure because you look at the race and you wouldn’t say there’s other there isn’t a lot of strong strength and depth in in the older MERS so yeah I think he’ll have a great chance of taking that as well yeah looking ahead of him in the market for the Locking you’ve got inspiral who this probably isn’t really the time of the year she seems to flourish with a bit of sun on her back which we haven’t really seen much of so far in 2024 and then you’ve got big rock who second favorite obviously is going to have that stable switch and would rate an unlikely runner for me so we could be at the stage where Charon is going a favorite for the lockage the other race that I’d like to touch on was a was a brilliant performance the bet 365 classic trial I thought Arabian Crown was was brilliant made all over a Maron 2 put his name into the hat for the Derby he 6 to1 second favorite now with bet 365 could he provide go good offin with the first ubari to win the Derby Kate I think I think he can in this I really like this hor he’s so straightforward isn’t he and I know that the time of this race wasn’t anything spectacular but of course it was steadily run he did get his own way out in front then as well so you do sort of take that into into account here but um I mean the form in behind looks solid because it was the same two three four of that he do listed race from back in September with MC Duff rayad and Portland in there but a raven Crown he was just too good for them so straightforward again and the way that he shapes you know he looks to be again Ken will tell you more about this so the size and scope then of a typical duari that the sepin trip to M for should be fine for him sandam clearly suits him well but he’s proven himself for other tracks and um a first winner of the classic trial as well for Charlie applebe but um yeah the rans though like say are pretty good because uh subsequent Derby winner then ad DEA who finished second in the race in 2021 and yeah I I think he’s ticking all maners of boxers for the Derby yeah yeah this race has had some some bearings on the Derby like you said a day I was beaten in this before winning and then you had West over won it a couple of years ago and went on to win the Irish Derby so as a trial it is good yeah yeah it’s got a good history I mean there’s been some really good horses in win it Shar won it so it’s a race that has got good history I thought um araban crown and McDuff both of them have improved since since from two to three I thought they both needed to run um I think I mean went on TV saying that I think they will whatever they do they will improve for the run so I thought it was a really good performance by both of those um my only slight doubt with a raban crown I don’t think he’s got a Turner foot and that’s my slight doubt is that if you got some can to Turner foot in the derby may just CER him close to the line but yeah he’s a high class horse I thought the performance was really good he can only improve for it and now they’ve run here they can go to another trial if they want to so they got the option of going either to York or maybe lingfield so they can they can go for another Derby trial mdff he’s not going for a derby trial um Ray said that he will go straight to the derby he’ll probably have a ray course gallore I tried to say I’m from G um G uh what’s it uh what’s it called on the Stars uh yeah breakfast with the Stars I tried to push him towards that but he wasn’t having it so so not yet but I’ll try and twist his arm the one I mean I I wouldn’t discount War runs I don’t think he stayed right um he traveled up and I thought right let him go because he looked fantastic before him but I just don’t think he got the mile a quarter I think a strong mile might be might be his optim in trip so I’ll just War Room back at a mile I’ll be interesting but the front two whatever they they will come on a bundle for their first for this first start positive then for Arabian Crown going forward towards the derby Kate we also had some fantastic performances over the weekend and on Friday fantastic lady was one that really took my eye I wasn’t expecting to do that in the OJ no oh she’s such a wonderful jumper isn’t she I mean she’s just the most stereotypical looking Henderson horse of all time as well she’s buy Network and you can see um obviously the yard’s greatest Network ever was Sprinter Sacura and she’s almost got a look of him um she’s just stunning and to be defeated in this race at eight length SP Huck last year now to come back this sh it was a very winnable race I mean you looked at it on P you just thought who of these actually wants to win this and she was one where for all that at their brilliant best she might just lack the class of some of those in there at their brilliant best but the question marks were there all over the shop she didn’t have the question marks she’s consistent really likable and uh yeah and after a gallant run in the toam yet again then previously it was just it it felt like it was a a deserved success for good attitude yeah I thought she might have to step out of of a handicap company and into those graded races but the handicap has only put her up 7 to 149 so she could take in a few handicaps next season going forward anything else that took your eye um she was the one most of all I mean hellwin though to be fair in the race previously the 150 uh for Tom KH and Allen King Allan King’s having a fine enter in his season isn’t he with plenty of these lots of there was a bit of a theme throughout the season of Alan King Saturday horses not performing to Optimal and no sooner had someone said that that all of a sudden he had all of these successes but yeah I thought helwin was a really good winner of that novice’s Championship final and what he’s going to do next season um what route they’re going to go down with him it’s going to be fascinating to see but definitely one to to keep on side yeah that race itself is is one to put pretty much the first five in your notebooks I think steel allo was my nap of the show last week and finished back in third just was a bit on edge in the preliminaries the fal start I don’t think helped the fal start certainly didn’t help M Mara no no he didn’t um as we all know the starter apologized to the owners for um for not seeing it so like human error we we all make mistakes and I make plenty yeah and the rule change is coming in for the flat and I’m sure after that they’re going to look at rule changes with regard going to I think yeah I think why why complicate it yeah just make it a standard for the for flat and jumps and you know where you are yeah I felt sorry for Steve drown had to come out to kind of show his face and explain the issue and his hands are tied yeah I’m spoke to Steve and Steve said look I can only do what’s in the what’s in the rule book and that’s what I can do yeah so there nothing he could really he could nothing he could really expand on what you know what he said no just going back to Alan King the reason Alan King’s having a good end of the season is good ground he doesn’t he I mean if you go to Barb cars in the middle of winter it’s it’s it’s still good ground it’s just doesn’t get soft up there and that’s the reason why his hor to perform on good ground yeah Edward Stone as well ran an unbelievable race not not really got talked around in the in the midst of the celebration Chase but finished what a short head behind probably season seasonal best I would say there definitely anything else take your ey uh I thoughta C who won the um siola who won the maiden Philly State I thought that was a don’t think the race was deep but she looked a really quality Philly I mean she stood out in terms of quality and the way the race panned out I mean she sat off the pace way way out the back Willi be gave her time to find her stride I like the way he taught her to come in come between horses and she picked up be and I thought she looked really good I mean I’d love to see her go for the Oaks but you can’t go on for the Oaks for the back of this so I suspect I they’ll go madora and then go on to ribblesdale I think that’s what they’ll do but I think she’s def she was for me she was probably a really a real nice performance there and I think there’s plenty more to come from her yeah she yeah she she got a lot of love on social media for that performance Danielle was also another who I thought was brilliant she won it we the be by 12 L she’s now 2 to1 with bet 365 for the Oaks related to Ascot gold winner kaj Monami I was really impressed with that and then a couple from Ireland as well Camille pizaro won the six Fong Maiden at naven on Saturday is sure to be royal as got bound and kit prios made a win and reappearance in the Vintage crop was really strong in the market now 7even to four for the Ascot goal cup with bet 365 and I thought he was in trouble for maybe half a stride and then you saw him pulling out after the line and he did not turn a hair The Jig jogging and how full of himself he was he was only just getting going at the line there so great to see kit prios back and uh and if he can get back to His Brilliant best we know he’s got those ever so slight little quirks about him he’s not 100% straightforward but um yeah that was uh fantastic to see and like I said just he was such a fresh horse after the line I think that was the most notable part of that success yeah and one last one Ken hand of God I thought really took my eye winning the bet 365 eia cup just checking now he’s only gone up three to to 91 the London Gold Cup a logical next race for him yes I definitely I mean I like the performance of sand down it’s crying out for a mile and two run used his stamina to win to win that the yard have got a decent record in the London Gold Cup Al kazim comes to mind time test so they know what to what sort of horse is required to win the race I thought that a performance stepping up that Lear improve I should mention the horse took like yesterday that sparkling SE or J lions that one I think the first at nce yeah nce yesterday she looked a nice Philly I mean she beat on on Fairy Godmother aen O’Brien and when she came and fairy god tried to come go with her but she just couldn’t live with her in the last half of f so she could be interesting in going forward yeah there plenty of Whispers for the runner up wasn’t there three race going off four to seven four to seven yeah yeah amazing we’ve reviewed plenty of action and that brings to an end raceing recap before we get into our guiney and punch down preview just to let you know that our sponsor be 365 have an ITV racing price promise they will not be beaten on price for any horse on all UK and Irish races is shown on ITV racing full teas and C’s can be found on the website so we’ll have our flatheads on first we’re going to look at the 2000 guiney Ken city of Troy currently heading the market of 46 bet 365 we were chatting before the show there are plenty of obvious alternatives to it yeah I think it’s an I mean last year everyone said August road down it wins the race it’s formality what happens if L these lines doesn’t happen we’ve seen it with Air Force blue was another one couldn’t lose so look he set it’s a really high standard I mean he was a horse that I saw in his first race at the C remember I came and told you that I mean ran into the boards I mean we all saw that and I said to you Ryan W doesn’t give much away but his face after that day told you he he was on sitting on a very good horse he’s gone to he’s gone to a new market beat and won the sub stakes in really good form and won the jeur which they were worries Before the Race that the ground might not suit him look he’s a high class Horse He sets a really high standard but again it’s the first time out aen will have him ready but so will everybody else so it’s not a forone conclusion but if he’s as good as he was last year it’ll take a very good horse to beat him but there are loads of horses with chances I mean you speak to Richard hnen and rosaling wins the guies I mean every time I see him oh he’s going to win him and unfortunately I meant to see him today but I couldn’t cuz I’m in here but I saw um spoke to Richard last week and he worked at Kempton two weeks ago he beat hatam hatam come out and won the the um Craven so that makes him feel really confident his form is really good I mean the pagey stakes at ASA I mean that threw up loads of winners so that form was strong then he had a blip at um at Doncaster which you all know about and Richard was like I mean heartbroken was not the word I mean he was really he couldn’t believe it but it was down to soft ground the horse does not like soft ground and he came back and redeemed himself when he won in France so yeah he’s a he’s a really good per um really good um opposition towards him ghost riter I like him but I just wonder if his form is actually good enough from last year but he’ll have to improve Night Rider I saw him Gallop at the new market uh Craven week he looks well my only doubt he looks like a sprinter he’s like a little ball of muscle and I’m just wondering if he’s actually a Miler but he’s done nothing wrong so far and I’m glad they’re taken their chances alien lby he had a Gallop at New Market he looks like he’s grown not sure he’s a miler looking at him he looks like a m a 10 F on he’s a big strapping or and I know he’s he’s come on for the gallop at at New Market but just wh if he’s going to be a Miler true and true even though he’s the closest that got to um city of Troy when he ran in doers but as an outsider the horse we were mentioned was task force I mean lucky enough this time last week actually saw him when his bought some after the other Gall up at new Newbery he he’s grown he looks well and I mean he ran second to vanique I mean van de’s probably the best the best two-year-old we’ve got this side of on the RC and he was very good so I think Task Force at 2 to1 I think he could be an interest in each way bet against the favorite yeah all you’ve got to do is look at the the pedigree of task force and to look at what he was doing over six furong being by Frankle out of special Duty I thought was Fab lost his unbeaten record like you said uh over six furong in the middle Park but he’s definitely going to improve for the step up to a mile and just RAF was is made it to last week he said I didn’t want to go over seven cuz I just didn’t mentally he could handle going over seven or mile as a as a 2-year-old so he thinks he’s ready now and looking at him I mean he has improved so yeah I mean interest see that he could run a big race at about 20 to1 around that price task force for Ken then City DET trit Co Mor of started putting out their their videos on social media ready for his stallion career later on is he the real deal I think so yeah yeah CU I know like you say we always got all these superlatives don’t we from B Doyle and best ever trained oh the best I’ve ever trained yeah say you’re just waiting for the buzz term to be put out there to be clipped up for a headline piece but uh with city of Troy though when even taking that those kind of quotes with a pinch of salt he goodness me he hasn’t have looked uh smart and the plans that they’ve got with him as well and of course being a son of justify and how well justify has done my goodness me and to potentially turn him into that International jet setting dual not dual purpose perform but AC cross kind of disciplines cross surfaces performer as well I just I love how bullish they’ve been with this horse about everything that they’ve said I hope that that then translates and I think that he’s going to get off to a blistering start in the 2000 guies because I know like as Ken said that August rhan was all the hype beforehand before last year but he he’s just a law into his own August rown for what he produces from one run to the next but city of Troy there’s no reason now to doubt him he’s never once fluffed his lines and and I actually don’t think that’s a bad old price about him as it currently stands Ros Alan yeah and the confidence behind him he does look to do next best of the rest then I think he’s priced up accordingly on that and yeah ghost riter would be the one for me then to probably fill out the third place in this and Clive Cox was giving a glowing report on him at Windsor last night then in an in an interview about him and course in distance form with him as well um winning the group two Royal LOD stakes and I thought that that actually looked an up to scratch renewal as well and of course we know that that races uh produced Dante Derby winners then as well and he also proved his tactical versatility that day where he doesn’t just have to go forwards he can also take a lead also um and he’s got those extra stamina reserves which he can put to good use so yeah for all that we more so associate the 2,000 guine with the quicker horses rather than the 1,000 guies with stayers in time I I still think that ghost right has got enough boot to be um to be at least running into third here yeah really interesting form wise you you also throw in the the two all weather performance so far night Raider and notable speech and it’s a brilliant 2,000 guins so one that we definitely can look forward to Kate the 1,000 guies is a bit more open market wise Fallen Angel currently heading the market 11 to4 I think she’s going to prove really hard to be I was I went back and watched some of the performances last night and the thing that I liked about her is she’s handled the dip on the July course her strongest furong is always the last furong over seven furong to step up to a mile should suit oh yeah exactly that like you say strongest in the finish of a seven furong contest and yeah for all that you can say she hand on New Market it was like you’ve just said there the July course but it presents similar enough test with the dip though that is going to hopefully translate to The Rolling mile but yeah I think I totally agree I think she’s the one to beat as well and again as I say that the 2,000 guies we tend to associate with the quicker performers rather than the 1,000 ginies for the stayers in time and Y Lang y Lang I think is only going to improve down the line with a step up in trip but I still just wonder if she’s got enough boot for this and of course she did disappoint when we um last Saw Fallen Angel winning in the group on Mo stud stakes and Y Lang y Lang she fluffed her lines on that occasion quite notably so yeah she’s already got that form then with her for all that y yangang yangang obviously did not produce her best that day um but yeah I think very difficult to look past Fallen Angel the CB form as well they’ve just you’re struggling to side against them at the start of the season so there’s another tick in the box and she’s just got that cracking temperament and now that she’s proven she can travel to Ireland likewise as well and I agree I thought she was strongest in her final furong so uh the Step Up in trip then for her I think is really really going to suit her and she’s the right favorite but further down I still like El Mala at 33 to1 in here I sided with her last time out um at newy in the Fred darling and I I think it would go as quite a push to say she was unlucky I don’t think she was unlucky as such but I think her inexperience probably costs her ultimately where she did similar to her debut at s where to make her run she darted to her left and she took off then when she got herself out of a bit of a pocket and she was running on so strongly at the line I don’t think Ste up in trip will inconvenience her and she’s just been forgotten about in the market for such an inexperienced type I thought she was maybe each way possibility yeah El Mala then for Kate at 33 to1 who for you Ken uh Fallen Angel she’s only won she only lost one race night back to that day in the great um she she improveed she every time I saw her she improved and improve and the Moray States was a really good performance she had a Gallop at the new market uh Craven uh last week the week sorry the same week as the Craven she hasn’t grown but she’s grown outwards and it was a routine work I wasn’t anything spectacular didn’t ask too many questions so she goes there in in good in really good form a langang I like her but I think she’s more of than noes Philly um she just doesn’t haven’t got hasn’t as Kate said hasn’t got that that instance um turn her foot which I think is going to be needed here I’m kind of siging with dark sequence I I mean I like the way she won her two performances she went to to New Market for the um nail grin looked at her she looked great she looked like she was clueless on the track been there but she had won there before so she needed that experience again on the track I think she’ll take a major step forward I think she physically has made a big improvement from two to three and I think there’s more to come from her so I’m just going to be against forign Angel and go with dark SE because I just think she’s she’s been had a run she’ll take step forward and I just think that might be the difference between winning and losing that she’s had a run yeah an interesting St I think 14 in the last 20 2,000 guine winners have gone straight there but the Mayes are all different yeah you get a lot that are beaten in trials that do then go on to win the 1,000 guies so yeah D sequence 5 to one having been beaten on her trial last time for Ken k I’m going to come to you anything else at New Market we’re going to stick with our our flatheads on uh we’ve got some fantastic racing over the three days at New Market the likes of the palace house Stakes Pretty Polly the DAR estate yeah so we were talking beforehand about the potential ground conditions for New Market and uh I was anticipating with the forecast even though it’s warm today and we know how fast New Market dries up that it was going to be on the hopefully the softer side of good then um come uh come the weekend but you reliably informed me that that’s not expected to be the case so it’s slightly thrown a span into the works then for me here but I thought that the one that represented the value in the palace house Stakes was last year’s winner the dream especially if it has just got that bit of cut in the ground still but at least at bath I know she got beaten in listed company in valan down Stakes she proved herself on a sound of surface I thought the ground was too good for her there and she just got going far too late in that race as well but she still ran a Blinder to finish third so she’s clearly in good form I know when she won this race last year she was coming into it on the back of five starts but she beat living the dream in it I don’t think there’s quite a living the dream here living the dream obviously boosted the form winning the nonth thought finishing fourth in the Breeders Cup then subsequently so that was a really solid piece of form and the fact that she’s around sort of 8 to one or so to retain her crown um with this seemingly being the main aim for her this is her time of year as well that I thought the dream was probably the way to go in the palace house Stakes yeah available at 8 to1 with bet 365 I don’t think she needs soft ground I think it just inconveniences the other horses and she handles it yeah um yeah she gets pigeon hold as a soft ground horse but I don’t think she does need it can anything else for you on the flat come uh the the two- roll race on the Sunday I it could be interesting I think the actor could be very I honestly you don’t see many Han and twoy olds that look so unfit for their debut and I was amazed it was that unfit um and he ran a really good race to fin second the next newbie meeting he had a two-year-old that had won that had worked with this which was called I for I forgot the name of it but he had worked with this at Kenton and won new at one at newbie but this the actor will take a massive straight forward from his first one cuz I couldn’t believe how unfill it was hadn’t been that’s been going to Kenton to gallop so it will take a massive step forward the actor so I think it’ll run well yeah runs in those red color star something isn’t it I can’t yeah I can’t remember what name thees one of those ones that was winning in the red star year and could I just also just Chuck in medalia Stakes then on um on the weekend as well uh Astro bow again this was sort of of the anticipation of the softer ground but uh I’d say by the Sunday with the ground quickening up and then the forecast for Saturday it may just be a bit too quick for her but again another one at the prices where she finished third in this race last year so again I’m going for sort of repeat form as such that was behind VI Cena and Al hon and I thought it on paper that’s probably a better renewal than it looks this time around prosperous Voyage random Harvest rolling behind there and she’s following a similar path this time around and I just think she was unlucky to bump into Charon on her reappearance start I sided with her to go and defend her crown but uh Sharon as we’ve already touched on uh winning in group two company uh on the weekend so it was just a class above he was that day so I think she can count herself unlucky to bump into him uh but again I just think that she’s one where she’s just overpriced against those in the uh in the DAR Stakes but again ground might just have to be a slight worry yeah I was the same as you I was with her and I think that day at Doncaster I think there was a huge headwind so actually her as a front runner it would have worked against her so I thought you could upgrade that and obviously the form has been boosted with Jin Jaron since yeah there was a couple at New Market for me Dark 30 it’s 5 to1 with bet 365 for the seven furong handicap the 3:00 on Friday one over six fongs on his reappearance there off a mark of 93 and the handicapper has only raised him three pounds has shown good form on the July course as well winning over this trip of seven furlongs off a mark of 90 I thought he was sure to be involved in the finish and then the suff Sussex suffk Stakes the 220 on Saturday I thought Dutch decoy was probably overpriced at 12 to1 finished second by and nose over Mar here at the Craven meeting off a marker of 92 gets to run here off the same Mark had to wait for room that day as well was a bit inconvenience and and staying on well at the finish I thought this extra Fong would suit him so yeah 12 to one for Dutch decoy as well took my interest on Saturday the name of that two-year-old that had been working with an actor was called Hawaiian who won on the Friday and that has been working all over and so yeah so I’m expecting I to take a massive step forward perfect well then switch codes we’ll going jump in uh punchestown Gold Cup is the first one to have a look at galap sh currently 83 with bet 365 ahead of last year’s winner fast or slow at 100 to3 Kate this is a really good renewal and corat Rambler coming in after his entry exploits obviously throws a different angle in as well yeah I know all all credit to Lucinda Russell on her team for throwing him into this as well and when you look back at his goal cut form I know the question going into the Grand National was how hard a race did he have finishing third there but he well proved himself up to this caliber and then some so fair play to them for going to it but yeah I think that the market probably tells us the story of this race where galap shamp we all know that he’s the best horse in the race ability wise and if they’re at the very best as we saw in the Irish Gold Cup then he can overhaul fast or slow but of course it’s punches town which just uh lots of form goes out the window then relatively speaking and so many upsets can be caused and we saw that in this race last year with fast or slow beating galapa shamp and that’s going to be the concern again for him another heavy campaign for galap Pand sha we didn’t get the clash in the goal cup we wanted in the closing stages with fast or slow and seating at the 16th and we know how difficult it is to do the cheltam Gold Cup uh punchestown Gold Cup double vasos to do it sizing John in 2017 in his Triple Crown um success and but prior to that war of attrition in 2006 and kicking King in 2005 so that just goes to show you how difficult it is to be able to do the double galipan couldn’t do it last year and I if if Aster slow is ever going to beat him everyone I think well most people would say it’s going to be in this race so at the prices for all the galap sh the carrot is just about being dangled there at his current price but I still wouldn’t be backing him at that price and FAS or so I probably would be at that price yeah Ken they’ve added in an extra race for galipan this year as well took in the Dublin racing festival and Christmas would you be with him or against him definitely definitely with him he’s he’s a different horse as I said to you before he’s a different horse this year the way he’s looked he’s more mature he’s had an extra seven days than last year um I know he had a hard race in the Gold Cup but he’s had a long time to recover from that just when he walked in I think it was um uh Christmas time and he walked into the pic and you thought he looks back to he looks back to his best and then they changed tactics with him and it’s just been a different horse so yeah I think he’ll beat fast and slow I said to you I think I said to you at the time in the dubling festival I didn’t think fast or slow was fit I thought he’d come on for the run which he did at the goal cup unfortunately unseated but I think he’ll get closer to him but I I just think it’s a different gallop and Des shamp than what we saw this time last year yeah I thought the one that looked at big price was conflated at 16 to1 he really improved last time in the melon Chase in first time cheap pieces really helped his jump in which has been his fres in the past this step back up and trip shouldn’t inconvenience him and obviously the form received a boost with with John bom with in the celebration Chase so I thought if there was one to kind of fill that third place behind galapa shamp and fast or slow I’d prefer the chances are conflated rather than the likes of Huck and corak Rambler who’s probably it’s an afterthought I thought conflated you would have had a logical step through to this race afterwards we’re currently recording this uh on Tuesday morning we have just had through the Declarations through for the punchestown champion stay as hurdle uh Irish Point has not been declared so we’ll likely run against State man and tiu has opened up 10 to 11 with bet 365 for this race Kate he’s shown his best on soft ground I think there might be enough juice at punches down for him but would you be a player at the prices oh I’m just so annoyed the Irish point isn’t going in here I’m just as soon as we were checking for the decks then and soort I did didn’t anticipate him coming here with the same owner stable mate then being the favorite in Tia hopu in here but I just think Irish point is so class and of course he proved that in the champion herd finishing second then two statements I’m not surprised they’re going to take another aim at him well potentially then we don’t know that for sure but to go down the two mile route again and if he if Satan fluffs his lines and Irish Point looks the obvious one to follow up and they may just be able to pick up two grade ones and a punch toown on that basis but I am so frustrated because I just love Irish point and and innately I think that he’s uh just that little bit better than Tia hoop on sheer ability but yeah Tia hoop to be honest with you I think he’s going to take an awful lot of beating in there one for RAC again all these characters but yeah Tia hopu should really be able to boss this and uh and back up those two successes from his last two starts yeah you’d imagine Jack Kennedy has been in the ear of Gordon Elliot saying come on I’m seven ahead give give give me a shot in the two grade ones because that jockey Championship over punches to is going to be a really interesting angle as well P Town end and Jack Ken yeah I think there’s only seven between them and I think will had 19 winners last year so I mean quite bumper horses so yeah I mean as we’ve just said Paul C is going to be gunning for him and he have to reckon he’s got what 226 will win it you reckon around that that sorry 126 sorry will win it so I don’t know it’s going to be it’s going to be tight but my doubt with tiu is that he won his first he won the hatton’s grace then they left him right through to chelham and now he’s run at chelham and they turn him about 49 days later is he a horse that needs a long break between his races to be at his best that would be my slight doubt at the price I would I think obviously he a horse to beat I don’t know home by the Le I thought he improveed and ran a really nice race at cheltam body W has run two really good races yeah I just think this is enough to be against him at the price and just the gaps just slightly concerns me yeah you had cider ble who was all gearing for for that third win at Anri and obviously had to miss the race I thought lantry lady 20 to1 was one that could run run into a place she’s been likely raced soft ground would be important to her but this step up and trip to to three miles I thought would really really suit her um yeah lantry lady possibly overpriced in that race Ken I’ll come back to you anything else that’s taken your eye at punches down over the next few days yeah called William Mings I think Lov the way he won his bumper and was all the rage for the chelton bumper and then Barry Conor said no I’m saving him for for um punches town I think he he looked a really high class um performer that day he saved him for the race I think he could be very interesting um going bumpers and going over fences because I haven’t seen him but a friend of mine who saw him said that he’s got Chaser written all over him he’s got a lovely stamp and he he be interesting horse back yeah I’ll interest see how he gets on against um Willam W Battalion in that race yeah anything that Barry gell trains is always going to be talked up yes but but but he had the form there I was with with one of the Gordon Ed horses in that bumper last time and I think all five of them were all previous winners and it a really strong r one of the strongest bumpers run at that time of the year so yeah Vin see how he gets on because reputation I know there’s quite a lot of him but he he’s he’s backed it up so far with what he’s done on the track yeah yeah that’s going to be a really really good race against yeah the liks of Jasmine Devo coming from the champion bumper there as well anything for punch toown for UK do we know if Cino is going to go to the four-year-old he’s been roughed off for the season because he ran he paraded at sand down on Saturday so he said that’s it he’s that’s it then for him I was thinking the price was looking a bit too big for considering I was sort of think as I had heard any new so that’s thank you for that was um so the May’s chasing uh two and a half I think this looks a really intriguing contest on the Friday the gray te of course Eno blue then Cuts back in trip today as we record um but it’s opened the door then for plenty of these other Mees I think it’s going to be a real um showdown between algori deasi and Brides Hill but algori deasi I know that she did have that comeback success and but she just on that an timate start but she just hasn’t looked the same m to me this year assle and rides Hill I think I think this looks a really welcome Step Up in grade well back up in grade again for her on the back of about Huntington’s success and this winning sequence that she’s coming here on that uh I know we haven’t seen her for quite a while then but again she’ll be a fresh Mare and uh and yeah I thought that bride Hill could um could overhaul algori deasi in the May’s Chase yeah could reward connections for missing Shelton obviously the ground just went against her that day I think yeah the better the ground the better her chances on there as well um for Ken yeah Willie Money 4 to one in that bumper at the time recording Jasmine devau 6 to4 favorite and Romeo culio bringing in that champion bumper form so William Money in the 450 a punch down then for Ken right before we get into our Best Bets of the weekend just to let you know of a free-to-play six horses challenge it’s available every weekend with price pools available for five and four correct predictions as well as a jackpot for all six terms and conditions apply okay I’m going to come to you first best bet of the weekend please so I hope that the conditions don’t Quicken up too much but at the same time I don’t think it will overly inconvenience her as such but it has to be the dream then in the palace house Stakes over the five furong of group three the race that she won last year where she beat the wonderful super fast living the dream into second on that occasion that form was subsequently boosted notably throughout the season if the rain is there in the forecast and there is juice in the ground we know that that will suit her but she proved it bath last time out in a solid re appearance run that she can handle as sound as surface just fine and she represents the value for me yeah currently available at 8 to1 with bet 365 Ken best bet for you um time locks my selection in the Jockey Club Stakes um interesting Philly I liked her last year she she improved ran a really good race before she went for the Champions Phillies and mea ASA where looking at her in the padic she was completely OD gone she’d gone in her coat and she didn’t want any race at all interesting they kept him in training this year and Ryan Mo’s got a great um record for the yard yeah currently available at 3 to1 with bet 365 then for the Jockey Club Stakes on Friday mine is going to be Mom’s Tipple at 12 to1 in the 145 at New Market on Saturday a six F on handicap was a huge eye catcher at lingfield on his reappearance over this trip and then was unlucky to finish second at Kempton by a head behind Mount Athos that was off a mark of 102 he gets to run here back on Turf of 5B lower he’s race fit as one on the July call previously by three length so we know that he handles the dip and he’s rated three pounds lower than when fourth beating only a length and a half in the wokingham last season Noble sty is all the rage at the head of the market on his handicap debut and will prove popular but they threw everything at him last season cheap pieces blinkers a gilding operation and I thought a double figure price 12 to1 and double the price of the favorite I thought Mom Tipple was really solid in that six Fong’s handicap thank you for joining us on this week’s episode of racing 1. How can Kate Tracey be taken seriously as a profitable pundit ? How can she have time to study ?? Is she from another world? Answers on a postcard ….. Btw I exercise equal rights and if she is a alien , that's ok ..

  2. Why was there no Punchestown day by day preview from Oddschecker? Today's racing was cracking but I would have loved some tips and chats about each day's racing…
