all right Rob Let’s uh watch hit a couple here mate okay so what sort of things you work on I know you you my I think my tendency is that I I dip a lot on the back swing I lose a lot of height and then I have to try and correct it um it’s something I’ve I’ve not done what’s your what’s your shot pattern like normally it’s normally been a draw but um I’ve started to with more Fades but it naturally has been a draw I feel more comfortable hitting draw than I do a fa okay so now do you um are you a technical player a field player what no I’m not yeah all feel really um and that’s important because you know it’s like you know you got to you got to work within your your sort of mental capacity should we say I mean you know if you’re a touchy feely sort of player then you you know it’s all about imagery and abolutely Sensations and whereas if you know if you’re a bright Ander Shambo type you know you want to know you know exactly you know what angle you’re are at certain positions in the swing etc etc so you know I I try and do all mine off field so I try and visualize every shot okay I try and you know I’ll try and imagine a ball flight and then just try and create it in the swing trying to feel that ball flight I’m not yeah I’m not not a technical player at all and what what’s the pattern of your bad shots if you have a so it used to be bad shots during the during the round it used to be a snap hook I’d hit a lot of hooks with my draw but now it’s the one where it starts right and just keep going right is that with all clubs uh I get it mostly with driver and my Fairway woods but ions I I don’t tend to have too bad a shot I think more of the time I’ll I’ll be short or long I might get the distance wrong my tend to be fairly fairly accurate so I’m happy with them but good good to get a little information all right yeah very much feel you like to practice or you prefer playing I like I do like to practice but I like to sort of play games while I practice yeah I’m not not one for just hitting ball after ball like to create a Target and then try try and go for it and things like that and you got any swing Fields going right now yeah just try and try keep your height is yeah I’m trying to feel taller cuz I I noticed that this basically this happens uhhuh and I feel when that happens you know badly that’s when I get stuck and up here right um and I I don’t get very good contact on the ball either okay so I’m trying to feel as tall as I as tall as I can on the back swing really yeah it’s interesting um you know you have to distinguish the difference between cause and effect okay are you going down because something’s happening or you just going down you know so so you know you can you obviously using a a counteract move like okay feeling tall yeah is the opposite of going down right so it can work but to some extent it’s bit more that’s a bit more of a sort of quick fix you know it doesn’t really sort of um if you don’t get to the root cause of the problem then you could have an issue okay so you you take your setup there for me okay no let’s let’s see you let’s see you swing it back yeah it’s it’s interesting how I mean if you if you look at you know I’m really you I’m a takeaway expert I don’t mean Indian food I’m talking about the start of the Swing right uh and so to me uh when I say expert it’s it’s an area that I focused on a lot yeah because there’s no question to my mind that so many flaws in the golf swing can be sourced mhm at the very start yeah okay and now we look at if we look at your swing we can see quite clearly how your hands work away from you here so this goes here you get sort of fair amount of forearm rotation and consequently it’s like you go down as a result okay yeah you see what I mean so it’s as if if you can get a little bit handle on how you start the swing so let’s stick on my little straightaway tool here let’s have a look here let’s got let’s get it out this really is a a takeaway fixer you know we found we’ve actually in all our studies we found I think we’ve got eight different bad takeaways you know I mean you’re a good player I mean and so you can compensate for that you know it’s the thing is the swing is a it’s a sequential motion right yeah so it’s almost like you know if you get the first chain right you know good chance the second chain is going to be okay the first Chain’s wrong now somewhere somewhere during the S you’re going to make a compensation for it yeah now players do and to me you know the the whole golf swing is based around the one key word which I use a lot synchronization synchronizing your arms and your body you know those are the two main components in the swing right so assuming our address position and grip is decent which yours look pretty solid then those two components need to match up okay so you’ve got to think in terms of the outside okay and your and and your torso is the inside okay of this of this and so now these have to match so there’s a little bit of a delay as in other words as centrifugal force takes over there is situation where the club goes back as you’re going forward yeah but you know in your mind you want to sense that as you complete the back scen with one as with one component that you complete it with the other okay yeah okay all right so your you have a tendency to sort of Bo okay get this then the arm get a little lifty to complete the back okay so it doesn’t doesn’t look like to me the body is the whole key here okay that everything needs to focus around you know your your core the way that your body moves and that really you know that’s that’s the axle okay this what you’re see the outside is is the is the wheel is the tire yes okay so right so let’s I’m going to get this little yeah Gizmo so here we go so you know this is a little tool that you can just snap onto your club and what it does you know I I really like you know we call it a swing Aid obviously a lot of people call them training AIDS but training AIDS sounds like too much like hard work but what it does it aids your swing so it works for righties and for lefties okay so all we’re going to do is we’re going to clip it on the club like this we’ve you know it’s been I tell you what you know amateurs it’s it’s you walk down any practice tea and just look at the look at the way they move the club away and you think oh my goodness you know what chance have they got of making a consistent repetitive swing so you just set it there just below the grip anywhere within an inch or two is fine okay line that up just like putting a grip on and I’ll I’ll be truthful I have no idea after all these years in teaching how I never thought of this before it’s like it’s crazy it’s because it’s U it’s it’s very simple so let’s uh just set you you take your set up there line this up on your toes so essentially just just bring it right on to your toes right that’s that’s parallel to your target line all right you’ve got all these straight lines on here all right so good now so here’s the key so close your eyes now yep and I’m going to okay just just sort of just feel your take don’t don’t try to do anything just swing it back okay now if you have a look okay where this is pointing okay you see how it’s pointing slightly to the to the right here yeah yeah okay right so here’s the deal okay take your setup again and it’s really interesting how many of the pros these days I mean to say up I fall in love with L abug I think he’s got one of the really best gol WIS out there but if you look at the difference here okay look you can see so this is parallel to this line yes okay your hands are sort of not they haven’t gone past your right hip pocket but that’s the move okay let’s do that again I say it’s it’s it’s it’s it’s you know I’m not suggesting there’s a set method of how to swing the club I mean there are a lot of different ways that people do it right there’s one plane there’s two planes there’s long swings short swings there’s laid off swings there’s across the line swings there’s bodr swings there’s cup there’s neutral I mean hey the list goes on but I think you’ll find that if you ask most most coaches that they’ll all agree how the club should start back and to me probably Tiger has one of the best looking moves away here you know I’ve always felt for a while that probably you know if Rory has a fault in the swing because I love his golf swing the flow I mean to me he’s the most talented player out there but I think he has a faulty takeaway which creates some problems sometimes more than anything it create if you if you look there okay so okay let let’s see if I get it back to about halfway you see where that is there now if if we’re here the club has traveled quite a bit further in order to get you see what I’m saying so your your back swing is not very efficient okay so okay like let swing do it it again for me and you’ll feel little connection with your left arm and your chest okay there you go good that’s it can you feel that yeah okay so all you’re doing you’re shift this is Shifting in order to move that yeah a lot of times what we’ll do we normally we’ll use a heavy Medicine Bow okay and just really to Eng engage okay that’s really what is you’re engaging these these obliques yes okay right so let’s do that again there right now see now the club’s actually sort of in a position where it can okay you can set it just keep going keep going and I bet you you’ll be tall without trying to think tall yeah okay because any if you’re going this way where’s your weight going to start with it’s it’s going on your toes yeah yeah all right so now as you go on your toes then as you start to complete you can see how everything starts to tilt down yeah so it’s it’s really the effect of that there’s a bit of a geometrical look and so this what this does it guides you it doesn’t sort of force you into position it just makes you more aware and to me if you’re trying to help somebody to because I’ve always used the old adage you know I want to help the player to be the own best coach yeah okay so using something like this you know yeah that’s that’s right that’s wrong and so you know let’s have a look here so I mean we even got James doing this cuz I think it’s it’s it’s a it’s a wonderful drill to me this this is the drill that really corresponds with what we’re trying to do here okay so let’s just move the ball out of the way because we’re going to have a couple of swings here without the ball okay so move it to here there hold that there okay so what I want you to do I want you to continue your back swing and swing through see there was no sign of you dropping yeah at all so do that again so get it to there try to keep the arms fairly relaxed so I want this moving okay I want that want the core moving okay you know as any else subcribes that you get your belly butt moved so it’s not just moving it there with your hands no okay it’s like they the club the hands the wrist the arms even the shoulders and chest to a certain extent are moving because this area Okay this section here sort of from your Naval down to your crotch is Shifting and moving okay so okay that’s the engine of the Swing there you go now just set it and carry on okay right so what I want you to do now I’m going to get you to hit a ball starting from there okay okay so right we’ll get a let’s get a ball out there okay so you can hit it nice and easy yep but you you get there and check it if it’s not right and so what you got to look you got to look at is that yellow line relative to the the stick on the ground okay so go ahead swing it back that’s it so you see so it’s a it’s a pretty short movement now if say if you’re out here look where that is yeah see all right so a it’s Way Beyond it but a it’s also looking to the right yeah okay now just let me just say one other thing here with with most amateurs okay most players as they take it back that will look here okay that’s one of the big probably the biggest issue for am golfers okay that they whip it in this is pointing behind them here so here we go watch that’s it yeah there you go now feel a little connection here now from here right come on just wind it up there come on that’s almost feels like you’re St stretching up this right side can you feel that there you go good you can breathe okay right let’s see I get to that point just relax your arms oh little check double check look at it okay right now carry on look a little different huh that felt great did it feel different there yeah see so it’s like you know once you’ve made that start it’s like you don’t have a lot of Swing thoughts which which is great I mean look the the less the better okay if you’ve got know if you’re trying to figure out exactly where you are at every point in the swing it’s tough you know I mean and and the nice thing about it then you can actually start to work a little bit on how your body starting to work you know how you you know all the modern terminology you know using ground forces and getting this left side sort of down so you can then clear and rotate but it’s hard to do that if the club is out of sync with your body yeah okay so let’s hit another one and then maybe you can get like ludig and sort of uh you know get there have a look at it then get back to the dress and then just pass through that spot and you’re in great shape hold it there good right we’ll change his name to lud now I’m happy might costing me a lot of money cuz we play a lot of matches that feel different very yeah and it’s simple it’s not that complicated no I mean to me you can you can ascertain that so many people’s issues I mean it’s the first thing I looked at when I saw you I mean watch you hit a few I mean the Gap got wider yeah okay your forearm over rotated okay in order to compensate and then from there the body then reacted and went down yeah so yeah you’ll want to stay tall but it’s like hey it that’s you know that’s the effect not the cause yeah okay let’s hit another one so you you this is a fantastic drill I mean we’ve got people playing like this now why because their synchronization improves I mean even am you know it’s just a higher handicap amst they start hit the ball out the middle of the club fa it’s like looks a lot different a lot different yeah all right you can up the bets next time with James it still owes me from yesterday actually I keep the arms relax and this is the same with every Club it’s amazing even even little even little pit shots you want to sort of have the same look and the great thing about this especially for better players what I like about about this which we don’t talk about a lot but okay take your dress I’ll just finish off with this with you CU I mean you’re in good shape I mean this thank you you’re easy that’s it you see how the butt of the club’s actually got closer to your right leg there it’s like the the top is actually moving in slight you right the club head is actually moving inside the line believe it or not it’s not you know I never never want to get the club head behind the hands obviously but the great thing about it okay now you’ve got the yellow line to look at okay now complete your back spring and this is a really good image I mean you you’re never going to see it obviously because it’s clubs moving too quickly but uh you swing through here watch okay rotate your body now now just look where this is now returning to oh okay yeah you see how now you’ve got that back in position yes right well we see with a lot of better players you know the club sort of over here okay High handicap it’s over there but you can see there we there perfect now You’ got that sort of the forward lean with with the shaft your hands are leading and your clubs right back in position yeah so it really you know it gets you on the righte early on in the back swing yeah and then it’s just a matter of hey using the bigger muscles to wind up and let it go yeah that’s brilliant what do you think that’s so you’ve got something really good to work on and you can get in a mirror and you using this this the great thing with the straightaway is that you know you use it periodically I mean I’ve got players that use it a lot some players hey they just use it just every so often just to check to make sure because the big problem with this game is what we feel we do and what we actually do are two different things so even though you may think okay but now this is you know you don’t need a mirror you don’t need a video camera you can actually just say yeah that’s good and doing that drill throw throw a few of those in yeah then get obviously then you’ve got to get into the sort of the the full swing action you know but it’s uh I mean hey you might start off a new fashion starting from here never that’s brilliant thank you all right Rob thank you how was   2. Faldo made Ledbetter, now he just sells quirky swing aids, something like most creator’s recently. The hackmotion has been sold by all and sundry, no wonder its so expensive

  9. When I hit a ball in the middle of the club, I have no idea which club to use haha. But I do it so seldom, I stay in a state of “wonder how far this shot will go” and which direction it will go today. Ugh. Golf is hard.
