back on get up on this crazy busy day
let’s play fill in the blank dwood we
had a lot of moves this weekend Chris
Jones resigning with the Chiefs means
what repeat his Zone granny I mean to me
this is the second best player on the
Chiefs we saw the impact that he made on
this team late in the year and in the
postseason he’s that important um so
listen getting him resigned was a
priority for the
Chiefs I’m not betting against the
Chiefs anymore I can tell you that
earned every penny of that deal a Dan
orlovski Jerry Judy was traded to the
Browns this weekend that means what yeah
Deshawn Watson is put on notice to go be
worth that contract Jerry Jude is a good
player especially when he gets soft
coverage but you’re talking about a
Browns team that we all know has a
loaded defense hopefully Nick chub come
CH chub comes back and his healthy coach
of the year in Kevin defans and now you
got Amari Cooper you got Elijah Moore
you got David and joku like I said Nick
chub potentially coming back healthy and
now the add I of Jerry Judy this defense
that is very good is now matched with a
potent offense Deshawn’s going to have
to go be just as good as he ever was in
Houston and then one more move and we’ve
touched on it this morning Mike T M
Jones traded to the Jaguars for a sixth
round pick that means what age that the
Patriots to me are locked into a
quarterback number three they must
really like both Jaden Daniels and Drake
May because you don’t want to start off
the new era of Gerard Mayo with
uncertainty at the quarterback position
they’re sitting there at three I think
it’s very unlikely at this point they
would trade out of that position and I
think they take whatever quarterback is
there lest any of you miss that over the
weekend again M Jones being traded for
sixth round pick it took me a little bit
by surprise what what reaction were you
have you been hearing from around the
league to that move I don’t think people
were surprised because everybody knew
that the Patriots had M Jones out there
as someone they were trying to trade I
personally I disagree with Mike T’s
Point even though I understand what he’s
saying about I don’t think this this
definitely signals they going
quarterback at three I think this is
they were done with Mack and they’re
going to start over with something else
right be it a draft pick at three be it
moving back and maybe taking a
quarterback later in the round and then
also bringing in a veteran I think
they’re going to start the Gerard Mayo
ERA with some uncertainty at the
quarterback position uh and I don’t
think they have a choice in a matter
even if they do draft one of those guys
at three there’s going to be uncertainty
but uh I still think a lot of options
are open to the pat yeah and I mean that
as we continue looking for a place that
the Bears might be able to trade Jus in
that continues to be a place that might
make some sense just a place that does
not have an obvious starting quarterback
on their roster right this minute and
and look we just showed you five teams
took quarterbacks in the first round
three years ago by the end of this off
season four of them won’t be on their
team anymore so yeah six teams are going
to take quarterbacks this year in the
first two rounds it it is I think it is
I don’t even think it’s a it’s a guess
it is a certainty right Mike T that six
quarterbacks will go in the first two
rounds for sure maybe even more and
maybe maybe five of them or even all six
of them wind up in round one so that’s a
lot of spots that get taken up in a lot
of different places Dan as you saw this
news again m to the Jaguars sixth round
pick what was your reaction and everyone
wonders why they say the draft is a
crapshoot you want a 101 of how to ruin
a young promising quarterback look at
what’s happened with M Jones in his
career in New England you you can we
could point the finger at MC Jones on
want have at at people this is the
walking example of how to ruin a guy
that was a young promising player you
give him god- awul coaching and then
support him with absolutely very little
help around him and then you see the
fall off a cliff so for everyone that
says well drafting a quarterback is a
crapshoot that’s CU you draft the
quarterbacks and then you put them in
situations where they have very little
chance to realistically have consistent
success at the hardest position in all
sports one they had to do it he lost the
locker room obviously had lost the
organization two you could draft a
quarterback at three New England if you
want to don’t play him cuz your roster
is not even remotely close to being
capable of supporting a rookie
quarterback D what looks what what what
does that look I’ve been saying that
like first of all I was I wasn’t even I
wasn’t even for them drafting a
quarterback at at three because I felt
like the infrastructure couldn’t support
a rookie quarterback but if you do if
you do draft a quarterback at three you
damn well better have a a veteran
quarterback and I wouldn’t I wouldn’t
dare put a rookie quarterback out there
for new in New England that’s the
quickest way to really really set that
whoever that guy is back in his career I
believe you’ll see the Patriots sign
some sort of Veteran quarterback here in
the next week or so whether it’s like a
jacobe brassette a Joe flacko a Garder
muu type and I still think they’ll look
for the younger uh longer term solution
just to be fair they have resigned
Hunter Henry and Kendrick bour now look
that doesn’t make them you know an
explosive offense but it does it’s a
sign of progress and that the coverage
is not going to be totally bare but to
me it goes back to we’ve made a decision
we we have to draft a quarterback I
think those top three are going to be
great quarterbacks I think JJ McCarthy
as the fourth quarterback is also has a
chance to be really good so if I’m New
England I’m not overthinking it I’m
drafting the quarterback maybe I add a
veteran I keep Michael U maybe i s
another offensive lineman and then move
forward but to me like you want to pair
your new head coach with some hope and
development at the quarterback position
I just need to say it you freaking GMS
sometimes and I love you as as as Asad
bottom line of it is the way they treat
these p like like these assets that are
so invaluable you just used a first
round pick and in three years the value
of what you used got you back a sixth
round pick the Jets used the second pick
in the draft on a player and in three
years they turned that into something
they can’t give away they literally
can’t give it away so the GMS who treat
this oh we can’t possibly part with a
number three for Justin Fields maybe a
number four go find people who can
actually play don’t keep selling your
owner well look look what I might be
able to do with this I might you know
what every single time you take someone
it’s like the car that you drive off the
park the the lot of the of the
dealership all of a sudden it loses its
value immediately you guys sell this
hope to these owners but the reality is
three4 of the time you are just taking a
flyer on people and most of the time
they don’t work out speaking for all GMS
under the doctrine of reciprocity they
may have some grievances with talk show
hosts as well that’s fair enough as well
they
should I have
I I have the benefit of not having my
name on the pick I mean my job is to sit
here and entertain people I’m doing that
I didn’t take Zack Wilson number two let
me ask you another question if Matt
Jones had been drafted number three by
the San Francisco 49ers where it seemed
to me half that organization wanted him
right wasn’t that the story didn’t they
want him story weren’t there people
there that wanted him it was yes I mean
obviously there’s a collaborative effort
in every front office but Kyle
Shanahan’s making the pick okay I guess
we’re he wanted
all of these quarterbacks were taken in
the first half of the first round of the
draft by by this time next week well we
don’t know when Justin Fields will get
dealt by the time their fourth season
begins Trevor Lawrence will be the only
one on the team that drafted him Tre
Lance has the best
record that’s remarkable look Trevor
Lawrence has won a playoff game look
look they all came into somewhat
questionable situations there has never
been better evidence and orlovski I’m
going to come to you on this that more
young quarterbacks are ruined than
developed in the NFL than that list of
people Trevor Lawrence somehow overcame
the catastrophe that was Urban Meyer in
year one and and took a team to a
playoffs and we’ll see Zack Wilson was
placed in a terrible situation in New
York maybe he didn’t make the best of it
but it was just terrible M Jones looked
like he he was exactly what we thought
he was going to be right he was was high
floor maybe limited ceiling looked good
as a rookie made the playoffs and then
bill bich for reasons known only to him
decided to give him a defensive coach
and a special teams coach as his
offensive coaches and maybe his career
never recovers from that two years later
he’s getting traded for a sixth round
pick the tra line situation is weird the
Justin field situation is what it is I
mean Dan people will say oh look how
awful that quarterback draft was the
teams had a lot more to do with that
than the players themselves did yeah in
many ways it makes what Joe burrow has
accomplished it makes what CJ stad and
what he did accomplished credit to them
it’s it’s more even even more impressive
what they’ve done and how their teams
kind of help them uh um okay so a couple
stuff on Justin Fields greeny number one
it’ll be fascinating to see if Kurt
Cousins doesn’t go to Atlanta what does
Atlanta do then I still think Justin is
in play Then for potentially Atlanta
okay uh the second thing is this in in
relation to what Woody said when he said
there’s no starting gig out there I’m
shocked that it doesn’t even feel that
there’s a starting competition gig out
there for a guy that facts over feelings
Monday numbers wise is comparable to the
dudo just W MVP you know like we can
have the opinion of Justin Fields all we
want and you can think he stinks you can
think he’s the best but the numbers are
what the numbers are and that’s that’s
in a situation that maybe wasn’t the
best one so that’s shock to me that it
feels that way I have two questions for
Graziano one Graz do you have any idea
what they were hoping to potentially get
Chicago in a trade maybe a month ago and
then as much as you can share with us
what do you think they realistically
think they’re going to get right now
yeah I think they were hoping for that
second rounder I don’t think they ever
thought they were going to get a first
rounder for him but I think second
rounder was something they were hoping
for and at this point no I I don’t and I
think you know to your point you’re
making let’s see what happens with
cousins because maybe one of the teams
doesn’t get him likes Fields as a backup
option and maybe one of the teams that
doesn’t get cousins doesn’t right so I I
think if Atlanta doesn’t get him for
example the their next option is to try
and trade up in the draft and maybe get
one of those young guys but if that
doesn’t work out then maybe he becomes a
factor and then at that point maybe the
price goes back up a little bit can’t in
because I’m going to lose him I got to
send him back to radio take the take it
away anywhere you like on the fields of
it all on the Atlanta of it all I mean
there’s there were a lot of shoes a lot
of a shoes left to drop today including
Kurt Cousins and Justin Fields obviously
factors into all of that yeah somebody’s
goingon to miss out on the quarterback
that they’re prioritizing right now
going into the start of the new league
year so I do think that Justin Fields
will have an opportunity to start in
2024 he might not be the week one
starter but he can find himself in a
pretty good situation with a functional
franchise for a change and he’s the guy
that gets the benefit of the doubt of
all the quarterbacks that have gone bust
in the 2021 draft class like all the
Zack Wilson’s and the Trey lances and
the M Joneses of the world I have more
confidence in Justin Fields being able
to salvage his career as a starter than
any of those guys because of the tools
that he brings to the table this guy has
an absolute Howards are attached to his
shoulder and when he takes off and
decides to run he looks like a running
back that’s how special Justin Fields is
now he doesn’t move through his
progression as quickly as he needs to in
order to play quarterback at a high
level in this league but that’s
something that he could develop if he
gets to a right situation with good
coaching and sitting behind somebody
else at least early on in the year that
can play quarterback you know this whole
thing pisses me off you know I’m going
tell you why because so many of these
coaches want to put you know they want
can this guy play in my system that’s
not what coaching is coaching is
literally taking a guy’s skill set and
and formulating and formulating your
scheme to fit him you mean to tell me
there aren’t coaches out there that can
look at Justin fields and and what this
guy has put on tape the guy what this
guy’s done and you can’t put a put a put
together a plan to get this young man
going like that’s where we’re at that’s
literally what we’re discussing right
now like there’s nobody out there that’s
willing to say let’s formulate a plan to
get this young talented quarterback and
see if we can’t mold him into something
I just think it’s an indictment on the
coaches in our league that no one has a
plan to try to get the try to get this
talent I agree wholeheartedly the one
thing I will say is coming off of the
last three years in Chicago there’s a
lot of bad that Justin Fields has to
unlearn which is why which is why I
don’t necessarily know that he’s going
to step in and be week one starter going
into the regular season real quick I
think there is a coaching staff out
there probably more than one that does
feel that way and I think ultimately he
will get dealt it’s just it’s March 11th
right I mean like it’s not it doesn’t
have no deadline has been missed

  1. In what world is hk mcarthy above Michael penix. Penix is getting all time screwed. Someone gonna steal this guy late in the 1st rd

  2. There is no QB that will not be successful in this system at New England. They need to grab a reciever 1 and then go get a rsciever 2 at 34. Then go get a QB then.

  3. From what I hear mac dug his own grave esp being mouthy even had a big mouth in Alabama with Saban. Mac was a fluke in college and his rookie NFL year

  4. Speaking as a Pats fan Mac at QB is uncertainty at the position personified. Who we draft is irrelevant comparatively

Mac wasn't promising, you got fooled by a good rookie year amongst many other good rookie years, we should've traded him right then

  5. Mac was garbage. The Pats and Bill Popped themselves in the foot putting that garbage over a better qaulified Cam that on record had a better starting record than Brady.

  6. Anyone trying to fill Tom Brady’s shoes and the expectations the org had after he’d set the bar was going to be ruined or fold.

  7. What did the Bears do to Justin Fields? The Bears did far worse by him. But, no analyst is saying that. Why??? NO team wanted Justin and none of them are questioned for passing up on him, but now he should be starter in Pittsburg, because he is a top talent in the NFL. We know biases is used for clicks, but its being taking to far by those that know football. Stay honest and more people will get it and as a society we will be better. But for now there is an audience that knows better, could you just cater to them/us a little more.

  8. Yes they did. They gave him no weapons, a half behind defensive coordinator and especially trams coach to coach your offense. They ruined that man.

  9. I'm way late to this party, but thank you Dan Orlovsky! You're dead on about Mac Jones! At the very least, he was ruined by mishandling, and at most, potentially ruined purposely by a vindictive HC. IMO, Belichick is a hypocrite. Belichick expects EVERYONE ELSE to be accountable and team driven so, WHY ISN'T HE??!! I put the blame squarely on COACHING for the decline of Mac.

Let's not forget Mac's success the first season: Made Playoffs @ 10-7 and pro-bowl alternate: That doesn't happen by accident in the NFL!

Next season he loses a great OC, replaced by a couple meathead yes men, with NO Offensive credibility!… Couple that with head scratching uncomplimentary offensive schemes and gameplans. Add the HC undermining Mac's confidence by benching him after ONE interception in a game! W*F!! What other coach would bench the starter after ONE interception early in a game??!! Answer: NONE!!

3rd year under "sink or swim" duress with another questionable meathead OC, more inexplicable schemes/gameplans, and an uncommunicative dis-engaged HC!! Recipe for failure ONLY!

Was Mac Jones at all responsible for his decline? The answer is: MINIMALLY! Yes, he is high strung and impatient. Yes, he lost the team by calling out teammates for perceived failures. Yes he was guilty of being a young immature player who was understandably frustrated in dealing with an UNTENABLE situation!! I wish the best of success to Mac and my personal apology. I am embarrassed by what my team did to him. He should have had a 4th Pats year with a legit chance to thrive…

It's pretty clear now that Belichick is a brilliant Narcissist. He's the best defensive mind the game has ever seen, but he has NO respect for offense and offensive players, and NO respect for the Owner that employs him. He has repeatedly undermined what was best for the team while claiming otherwise. Sitting Malcolm Butler in SB 52 threw ALL Players under the Bus! How was that best for the TEAM! It's the HC duty to CREATE an atmosphere of success for the chosen QB! Ruining the starting QB consciously or unconsciously because he wasn't "your guy" is Textbook NARCISSISM!

Belichick may have cut his football teeth under Navy Athletics, and he may THINK he runs a team modeled on the military way, but he FORGOT that EVERY serviceman swears an oath and is accountable to a higher authority. The Admiral or General, may not agree with or even respect The President, but it's their duty to their country to follow his orders and to NEVER undermine the MEN under their command. Belichick should never again be trusted with the HC position. He's borderline megalomaniacal, and a cancer in any position of authority. I would hire him as a DC with very minimal authority only.

IMO, players were willing to endure the "Belichick Way" because TB12 ensured a legitimate SB shot year after year. Yes the defenses were equally important to the repeated success, but The GOAT was the GLUE that held it all together. When the glue dissolved, it unsurprisingly fell apart.
