#tigerwoods #celebrity #golf
and we’re back in the presence of a true
legend golf Superstar Tiger Woods the
numbers certainly speak for themselves
683 total weeks ranked world number one
just let that one sink in 82 PGA Tour
victories so far 15 Majors so far
including five Green Jackets and perhaps
those jackets got him thinking because
Tiger’s newest title performance and
apparel company he’s the owner of it
Sunday red tiger good to see you brother
thanks for having me Carson good to see
you man we’ve got so much history yeah
we do we’ve been playing golf together
uh grew up over 30 years now in Southern
California correct both of our fathers
meant a tremendous amount to our lives
and our early golf development we’re
both dealing with our teenage sons in
that matter when you look back you know
in so cow we grew up man golf wasn’t
cool yet you w you weren’t the go you
weren’t the goat no no no if you played
golf you were definitely not a cool kid
I lettered at Santa Monica High School
all four years and girls would come and
look at the s for Santa Monica they like
there’d be like a golf club on it they’d
be like I I get it what’s that right
what what are your earliest memories of
just you know your childhood and SoCal
playing golf well I I thought it was I
mean I grew up on public courses so when
anytime we got a
scga um tournament on a country club it
was like oh my God I’m going get to go
to a country club and play golf um so
that that my my my relationship with
golf is mainly public golf and then
eventually got into some of the I I
couldn’t believe they cut the greens
like almost every day at a country club
because I’m used to cutting on on Monday
only and and watching just kind of grow
through that the entire week uh but no
it it
it’s it was it was good the fact that we
had so many so many junior golf
tournaments as you know during the
summer that we were able to play
competitive golf the entire summer well
most of the cool kids were surfing and
doing California stuff there was a few
of us idiots that were out there playing
golf so I have great memories playing
with you let’s talk about the game of
golf right now I mean Scotty sheffler
Nelly Corda we’re seeing something real
special right now um nine out of the
last 10 events they have won what do you
see when you see Scotty playing in
particular well for Scotty I I think
that obviously I his iconic foot
movement is is
belies what the club is actually doing
you know through the golf ball how good
it is how how stable it is how solid he
hits it you just stand back and just
watch bu light you know there’s
something different about his it’s just
so consistent and he works it both ways
yeah he goes both both ways and um it’s
just a matter of if he putts you know
decent you know he’s going to win if he
putts great he blows away Fields uh if
he has a bad putting week he contends
right so he’s just that good a ball
Striker I see so many of the young guys
especially even when they’re playing
with you competitively they seem to just
want to get in your ear what what do
they want to hear from you other than
like technique and swing what would
surprise us that the young guys ask you
about it it ranges but I mean some of
the stuff is um cannot be cannot be said
and other things are that’s the stuff I
want to know no we can’t uh now the
things are are you know golf related and
being you know how did I do it yeah um
how did I do it for so long or even why
did I do it um why did I make changes in
my game and so um some of them are just
trying to get better just like I was
yeah I saw you and Charlie your son for
those who don’t know who watch the
Today’s Show Charlie’s fantastic he’s 15
we saw at the PNC you guys played
together there he’s tried to qualify for
a few events tell me about that
relationship on the course I’ve got a
teenager who doesn’t want to hear
anything out of my mouth about his golf
swing yeah okay are you
coach but he will listen to you about
broadcasting right yeah that that’s the
same thing he listens to me about golf
but anything else outside of that cuz I
don’t know anything else right uh and
even then there’s a little bit of push
back in in golf uh but which is totally
cool I mean it’s he’s 15 years old it’s
what happens what teenagers go through
they’re trying to find their own place
in the world I get it yeah there was a
cool moment the Masters we saw I never
seen this before Charlie on the range
with you and he had a club and he was
holding it in front of you like this you
got he was kind of making these motions
it looked like the two of you were sort
of working together on a we are what was
that about it’s just like being at home
it’s just like being at home when we’re
practicing at home um I’m trying to keep
the club tight to my body is this thing
when he’s holding the club here you
trying I’m I’m trying to keep my arm
path tight to my body and not let it run
on basically trying to get my hips to
move and so you and him are having this
diog yeah I’ve struggled with my hips
moving and especially since my since my
accident my right leg doesn’t work that
well yeah um so I have a hard time with
that I tend to slide when I slide I tend
to hit these blocks and trying to get
that out of my system he puts a club
there to incentivize to turn I saw Sam
there on the bag too she’s got no well
that that was at at PNC right that that
was different she want to play golf no
no no no how come uh she has a I think a
negative connotation to the game because
uh at that time um you know hey growing
up that when she was growing up um golf
took daddy away from her I had a pack
and I had to leave I had to go on for
weeks and there’s a negative connotation
to it so we develop our own relationship
Rapport that’s outside of golf that we
do things that that is done involve golf
Meanwhile my son and I we do everything
golf related right it’s just very
different you had said at the beginning
of the year the idea was to play kind of
a tournament a month that I think the
hoping to yeah I don’t know is that
timeline still doesn’t seem like quite
working out I I I I have basically the
next three months so I have three majors
and hopefully you know that all kind of
work out how do you feel physically how’
you feel after Augusta I was sore what
do you do coold punch stretch all of it
co punch every day all of it every day
religiously for for those who are
watching the Today show um I want you to
we have Sunday red your clothing line
it’s um we all know you wore red on
Sundays and you you crush the
competition that can people can wear
this stuff and feel like they’re tapping
into your energy of a Sunday red but
tell people why you wear red because
this is a win for moms everywhere and
there’s a lot of moms watching I wear
red um my mom
thought that being born a Capricorn that
red was my power color and so in some of
the junior junior golf events uh in
SoCal I would wear red and I won okay so
uh in spite I wore blue uh and other ter
just to spite in spite I didn’t win and
so I then switched to red and I had a
lot more success wearing red so uh I
then saved it for uh okay Mom I’ll make
you a deal with you that I only wear
I’ll wear red on big events right on the
last round of big events cuz I can’t
wear it every single
you know Southern Golf they’re playing
every day so I can’t do it I we on the
last day of big events she said fine
just just wore the last day and I did
and up wearing it I love that I don’t
think a lot of people know why you wear
red there’s a nice little tie to Mom
yeah my mommy yes and and your mommy and
speaking of dad you know Earl there’s
that that great picture of you in 97
when you won um hugging your dad 22
years later it comes full circle when
you win in 2019 when you go and your
kids were there and you’re hugging
Charlie in particular there’s this split
screen here gets me every single time
it’s one of the greatest sort of images
of sports what do you see when you see
that uh generational uh I just wish my
dad could have met Charlie I wish
Charlie could have met my dad yeah um
there’s a common there’s commonality is
me in there but I wish they would have
met um they would have loved each other
how do you keep a Spirit Alive we have
like lots of pictures of we call my dad
pops and you call your dad pop always
pops yeah um we we have pictures around
I drink a little like Cy socks what my
dad drank on his birthday and I I’m
always telling stories about how do you
keep Earl Spirit Alive he’s always with
me you know I I always think about him I
mean everything it’s it’s amazing how
many things I say to my kids that came
from him um that you feel like you’re
him I I do feel like it like man I wish
I would have taken more of more of his
advice I would have I wish I would have
paid more attention to him when he was
alive U because I’m saying a lot of the
same stuff that he said on this short
time that I did have him on on this on
this Earth um but I’m just so happy that
he was part of my life and uh I get to
pass on some of the stuff that uh is in
me through him I remember being in
Henderson Nevada at a at a tournament
when we were teenagers and it was like
120 we played at the agga and and I
played like crap that day and I’m two
years older so you’re in a younger
bracket but after year round I it was so
hot n of the teenagers wanted to go out
we were all just having lunch and you
were the only one on the driving range
and you were hitting balls you were the
only one and your dad was out there and
we were all looking around going can you
believe this kid that kid’s crazy yeah
it is 190° out my what’s wrong with that
that’s how you were man all the way back
there there you I know you have a love
of the military as do I we share that
but you always had that sort if you
didn’t play golf do you think you would
have been in the military yeah
definitely really yeah I would have
served yeah I don’t know what what I
would have done but I would have served
too um Sunday red I mean so tell
everybody about the logo because okay
the logo is a Tiger It’s a simple thing
it’s nice and clean but it there’s some
kind of there’s some representation of
of what I have done in my my career if
you look at the stripes there’s 15
stripes and as you alluded to earlier
I’ve won 15 major championships so what
happens if you win it the hall on weeks
that’s my my my goal is to ruin the logo
yeah you want you want to keep I want to
keep ruin dinosaur the trademark is here
is this and I my job is to ruin it
what’s it feel like to wear your own
clothing line not n well it’s incredible
to wear something that’s um designed by
athletes made for athletes I love it oh
your Caddy’s here Uncle Al I got to play
through
thank you tiger how do you carry these
things Jesus this is
crazy problem H tiger you got it thank
you thanks for having me be good good
