few have had the honor their names are
embossed in silver for eternity and
uphold the enduring Heritage of Polo for
generations to come it doesn’t get any
better than this the most prestigious
trophy in all of North American Polo on
the line today it’s that time of year
again
where dynasties rise and fall and
legends are made nine teams will battle
for the most prestigious trophy in all
of American Polo some will look to
continue their legacy and others will
try to create one watch as these
modern-day Gladiators fight to carve out
their place in history welcome to the
20124 US Open Polo Championship
good afternoon everyone and welcome to
the USPA Polo Network we are here
getting ready for the second semifinal
of the 2024 US Open Polo
Championship today we have uh let’s see
semi-finals here we’re going to be on
the number two field here at National
Polo Center in Wellington Florida and
we’ve got Valiant taking on pilot and
the very first time that the this season
these two teams have taken each other on
and it’s going to be here and the US
Open their spot for the finals it’s on
the line here today I’m Toby wman join
with me as always Cody of and Cody here
we go buddy thank you Toby as you said
one more spot left in the final L Alina
taking in the final already Valiente
looking to get to their third straight
final here in The Gauntlet but they got
to get past pilot first remember pilot
defeated Tamra 119 to punch their ticket
here to the semifinals with a three and
one record in the US Open rundo pz in
game scored eight goals he was 100% from
the penalty line he also won eight
throwin this pilot team shoots 18 times
per game that’s the third most in the
gauntlet but they’re shooting under 40%
at 39% that’s seven of nine in the
gauntlet of Polo but since pundo pz’s
midseason return from injury pilot is
averaging 11 goals per game four assists
per game and as we know Toby on any
given day fundo pz he can beat anybody
on the planet but this pilot team will
have their hands full against Valente
boy that’s the truth and Valente you
know they went three and one in the US
Open to earn their spot here in the
semi-finals pakito uh at just 16 years
old he’s the youngest player in the
tournament he’s leading the score here
uh leading score in the in the gunt 57
total goals winning 42 throwings and
providing 13 assists tied with the doo
for a team lead uh they commit 6.6 fouls
per game and they draw 9.4 fouls per
game uh drawing nearly three more fouls
uh per game than any of their opponents
they take uh second fewest shots per
game at 15 and then one of their key
stats here is scoring over four goals
per game from the penalty line tied with
the most here in The Gauntlet right now

shows up whatever he has to do he’s got
a couple of youngsters on his team that
have been really helping his cause as

bottom of the graphic there ad Doo
comoso with this game today this will be
his 15th game of The Gauntlet season
only perotto com comoso and Tomas penelo
have played 15 games after their
semi-final this morning yeah well and
you know even though adal was almost 50
almost 50 years old he’s still
that good that he’s played you know tied
with the other two guys for the most
games played in The Gauntlet because you
know you get you go to the Semmes in the
finals enough times they’re going to add
up more there so well of course that L
Alina team roster changed throughout the
gauntlet as they’re two Main Stays Tomas
and pero playing 15 games already and as
you mentioned it’s because both of those
teams Valiente and Le alfina just keep
on winning if alente wins today those
two teams will have met in all three fin
of this year’s Gauntlet and Pilot’s
hoping for an upset on that point here
today and uh yeah I mean I’m this is
going to be a great game uh you know
coming into it I I tell you I was
thinking about it I’m like I don’t know
who who I’d pick for my favorite here
today because you know it’s it’s uh it’s
tough to to bet against either Funda or
adalo they’re both just such fantastic
players and their teams that they have
around them are both amazing
um you know you you look at numbers
though if if you looking at if you’re
looking at numbers of of horses uh you
know Valiente they probably have a few
more numbers wise here than pilot
overall but they’re all so good they’re
all every horse that that we see all
these players play they’re all just top
top
horses um check this
out yeah you said it there Toby there’s
no bad horses on the field Valiente
probably just has
pilot in the depth chartwise
quality all the way down in
numbers they’ve got so many it’s just
such a huge organization I mean take a

seen so many good players with so many
deep strings for for for pakito to win

feather in his cap so very excited for
him for that and he definitely he’s

nine or 10 goal player did not win win

sell the hay there and uh we met some of
the polo people there and um we’ve
become very friendly with the Polo
Community because the uh they require
such a a great quality hay and which is
what we want to
provide all in line and ready for the
start there is a moment in every horse
race up when expectation spins into
realization oh where to go to a perfect
start that no one’s going to catch your
horse believable and they’re into the
stretch and you probably also thought to
yourself wouldn’t it be even better if I
could truly call that race horse my own

coming out on hall right now he usually
starts on this horse but decided to put
him second today play second today and
then we’ve got

old 9 years the senior of the youngest
player in the gauntlet

much two-thirds of all the scoring all
the work here for this team down the

that was named after uh Bob’s eldest
daughter and um let’s see yeah I was so
actually I spoke to the to the family
and um I was told that that uh Bob is is
recovering and uh wanted to just they
just wanted to ask everybody please

prayers uh towards towards towards Bob
and his family there they really
appreciate all that they appreciate all
the love that everybody shown so far so
Bob is recovering and um
yeah hopefully we’ll get to see he he’ll

be exercised on you can ride in a safe
environment from the polo standpoint you
have ample room for
turnout big residential lots
and a lot of horse
trails it’s kind of like having your own
Farm but not having to to necessarily
maintain
it you have amazing Pros that love to
play at
Newbridge one thing that’s unique about
Newbridge is it’s not just Polo people
because even Polo people sometimes like
to hang out with other kinds of riders
other kinds of equestrians we’ve got a
full service multidiscipline Barn ggt
all weather jump ring a Dr Ring you can
keep your non-polar horse in the full
service barn and the club does all the
work and we do have certain clients that
like to go and ride all over the
property and they hang out and come to
the clubhouse and enjoy the sport of
Polo a Spectators and that’s perfectly
fine as
well cocktails in the patio the assados
the you know going to the clubhouse for
for dinners and drinks you know all
those off the polo field activities that
really make the whole experience

the teams take it away Abby thanks guys

Mackie a really surprising game and and
start from valy Valente we saw them kind
of you know struggle in the beginning
pilot keeping them out of the scoring
Zone and now it seems they just run away
in this third chucker uh yes very
interesting game uh I think the first
two truckers we kind of saw uh both
teams studying each other so maybe
that’s why we didn’t see uh you know a
lot of action and both teams didn’t
really play to their full potential full
potential um I think now in the third
chucker they’ve kind of opened up the
game Valente has and uh they scored some
really good goals and some good fun Polo
to watch this is actually the first
semifinal this season for pilot and
arguably the most important wouldn’t you
say um and you know maybe we saw them
kind of not mesh well in the beginning
but uh they’ve figured it out and
they’ve ended up here today yes uh well
I mean Pilot’s a great team great
organization um amazing horses you know
they have fakun is one of the best P
players in the world and uh yeah I mean
it’s great for them they made it to the
semi-finals and I don’t know we’ll see
what happens today but it’s awesome yeah
well and and on paper both of these
teams match up pretty well you know you
have a 10 goaler a few two six goers and
then a zero um but you know what makes
them differ from each other out on the
field do you
think um yeah like you said both teams
pretty similar uh on paper they have I
mean two two star players Ado gaso and
funo pz two amazing captains um and a
lot of young and upcoming Talent as well
well um no I I think it’s it’s pretty
pretty even teams where we’re seeing and
uh I think today whoever whoever plays
the best and makes uh less mistakes I
think is they’re going to take it home
yeah they seem to be shutting each other
down and and the game’s staying
predominantly in the middle of the field
and you know we’re not seeing so many
like Breakaway scoring options and and I
think that has to do a lot with their
their defense now yeah of course of
course I think uh I think Valente at the
moment is playing a little bit more open
polo um I think pilot um they’re trying
to to manage the ball between Antonio
and fak a little bit more because Kamas
is uh alaso he’s staying in the number
four position so I guess they’re trying
to bring him in a little bit and then
release but uh yeah I mean it’s it’s an
amazing game super exciting to watch uh
the level of horses absolutely
incredible and The Field’s playing great
so it’s an amazing game yeah field to is
I mean honestly probably the best field
this year that we’ve seen now oh it
looks absolutely incredible um it’s it
hasn’t torn up at all the footing is
great and yeah it’s really really fun
Polo to watch and um for an organization
like Valiente what does it really say
about them and and how they get all
their ducks in a row to like make it to
so many finals I mean they won the CV
Whitney they went to the finals of the
Gold Cup and you know they’ll probably
head to the US Open finals again they
won last year the US Open finals you
know what is that say about an
organization like that well um I think
it’s I think it’s because they’ve been
playing for many many years here so they
have a lot of experience and their level
of horses is incredible and also they
have uh one of the best polar players
the best polar player in the world at
the moment Ado kamasa you know he’s he’s
the best in the world his son is right
there behind him on his neck breathing
oh yeah no he’s incredible as well uhhuh
awesome well thank you so much Mackie

and and Nick Ron when he filled in at

we get people reaching out to us but

seen on your screen we have those
initial horse lists and for the semis
and the finals yeah but usually for the
with the spare with the spare horses
yeah it’s a little
tough but we do our best absolutely and
there’s so many good horses out there
that nowadays it’s not you know a few I
would say a few well a few years ago it
might have been easier to pick out the
really top horses but now just so many
of the top horses that it’s like you
know the the a weaker horse stands out
more than a top Horse let’s put it that
way if you understand what I’m saying
now Doo wins the throw

it’s going to be fundo to come up with

Ado’s horse’s hoof and got kicked over

three on his penalty six safety attempts
but as you know Toby when it comes down
