leaderboard Rory maoy and Shane Lowry
are tied for the lead after there was a
bunch of 11 underpar

today can we get any closer than
this no I’m going to
just there we go there you go you good
cool it looked like you guys had a good
time out there obviously hit a lot of
good shots what can you sort of talk
tell us about your first round out here
today yeah it was um I mean it was nice
look any day you go out and played
around the golf we did you’re going to
have a good time U but yeah we enjoyed
it uh we both played nice golf we both
made some nice birdies and contributed
to the team and I think we’re very happy
with the day and uh you know quick turn
around before tomorrow you know looking
forward to getting out and force some
tomorrow it should be fun as well and
you know it’s a format that’s that’s
tougher and but it’s a it is an
enjoyable format um so yeah looking
forward to that how much pressure do you
sort of feel when you by the time you
guys go out there already guys posting
63 62 there’s I would assume some level
of expectation like we we kind of want
to get going here right off the bat yeah
absolutely especially in the better ball
format you know that um you you sort of
need to get off to a good start and
thankfully we did you know we were um
you were four under three four which was
really nice to see and then from there
you’ve got some momentum and you’re just
trying to you’re just trying to keep it
going but you know for the most part
today you know we we kept both balls in
play we um we were having you know two
looks basically on every hole of Birdie
and um you know that’s the way you need
to play better ball everyone thinks it’s
you know maybe a bit more gung-ho than
that but as long as you have two two
balls in play off the te two balls on
the green um you know you’re always I
think you’re always going to do pretty
well in this format it looked like the
wind started to pick up just a little
bit as the day went on there’s obviously
grain quite a bit of that that’s also in
there is the course trickier for you
guys than maybe the scores would
indicate everybody sees these low scores
they know they’re two balls in play but
how much did the course get a little bit
more challenging as the day went on yeah
it was it it was like you know there’s a
lot of grain around the holes it’s kind
of tricky to read in in places and you
know um it’s friendly is off the tea and
you know you get you get it in play but
it’s yeah it can get tricky like but
when you when you play a good golf which
what we did today it doesn’t feel like
that you know might looked at like that
at times but um yeah I thought the
course played tricky enough but you know
we played it very well well cool yeah
and Roy this is your first experience at
this tournament is this sort of what you
had hoped to get out of this event
obviously it’s only one round but good
golf sounds like you guys have had a
good time so far enjoying yourselves a
little bit on this time is this was this
your aspiration your hope for this event
yeah absolutely um it’s sort of I don’t
know if I knew what to expect I’ve
watched this tournament a little bit
over the years on TV um you know heard
some good things from some of the
players and you know uh you know it’s
nice to come come here uh team up with a
really good friend and and um you know
it’ll be you know if we have play a good
run tomorrow it’ll be awesome to be in
contention for the weekend and uh you
know try to try to get a win on the PJ
tour with um you know a friend beside me
so looking forward to it speaking of
playing with your friend is is that you
know is this beneficial to to playing
good golf being out there with good
friends and just having Good Vibes on
the
course I I definitely felt um today I
was less hard on myself than I’ve been
in the last few weeks um when I hit a
couple of bad shots um um you know it’s
nice to know you’ve got Rory maroy
backing you up so H but yeah I
definitely feel like you know there’s a
there’s a there’s a nice Vibe out there
with the two of us and we know each
other’s games so well like we we’ve
played a lot of golf we play a lot of
golf at home together um and we just
know each other so well so yeah it’s
it’s nice been out there Rory first
impression of New Orleans your first
down your first round you top of the
leader board pretty good start to the CR
city right yeah really good start um
yeah I’ve I’ve had a wonderful time so
far you know I’ve only been here really
a couple of days but um you know we’re
staying you know standing on tone we’ve
you know we’ve ventured out a couple of
times and um yeah it’s a it’s a cool
City great food scene um I thought the
crowds out there today and the support
that we got was was amazing so you know
looking forward to to more of that over
the next three days have you had some
pretty good meals did you eat good last
night we did eat good last night we had
nice meal last night yeah we did yeah
what kind of what did you have it was
like French I guess was it yeah yeah
yeah something
I had a steak anyway yeah so did I you
want to know what we
had tomorrow with early
te
mid who’s planned tomorrow night you
know no I’m not going anywhere any stay
hour trouble we go for meal tomorrow
hopefully we have a late tea time on
Saturday so you never know yeah
alongside the champions from two years
ago Xander and Patrick opening up with 7
under 65 what are your takeaways from
your efforts here on Thursday
say it was a bit slow uh we didn’t
necessarily hit it bad we just sort of
didn’t capitalize on on putts even when
we’re sort of on similar lines we uh
weren’t able to sort of see him go in
but uh overall yeah we have a little bit
of catch up to do with the win two years
ago tied for fourth last year what have
you learned about this format this
tournament and your partnership that uh
has worked well the last few years yeah
we’ve played really well I think in this
tournament and it’s a tournament we’ve
come come to enjoy I think best balls
you got to make a bunch of a bunch of
birdies and it feels like if you string
together a couple pars you’re falling
behind but that can change uh very
quickly I mean we’ve had years where
we’ve played the alternate shot better
than the best ball so um I think just
drawing on the experience of alterate
alternate shot and we can make up some
ground there why does this partnership
work so well because it goes well beyond
this this event for you too yeah I mean
we’re we’re good friends and uh it’s
just it’s comfortable um we’ve played a
ton together we know each other’s games
and
uh yeah we we’ve been it feels like
we’re kind of veterans out here now uh
even looking around on property here
there’s a lot of new faces and PC and I
been been going on it for for quite some
time so we just enjoy enjoy our company
each other’s company and and trying to
compete here how much do you set a
target number each and every day of
something you perhaps would like to get
to no real Target I mean it feels like
it’s a golf course where if you play
from the Fairway you can make a bunch of
birdies and have a bunch of looks Al
alternate shot obviously is a little
different than best ball um because
there are some difficult shots there’s
some there’s some water and there’s some
difficult part 3s but um you know we’ll
go out tomorrow get as many looks as we
can and try and make some more putts
appreciate the time as always see you

we came out of the gates both playing
really well uh both birdie in the same
holes you know ideally we like to mix it
up uh but we we started well and uh just
kept it going whenever one of us need to
the other uh we stepped up and ham egged
it and um he was a fantastic partner he
I needed him out there and and he
stepped up yeah it was a lot of fun you
know like he said we got off to a nice
start both birdied a couple holes early
and then uh you know yeah we just kind
of you know took our turns but you know
we’re just you know try to hit it in the
right spots and give ourselves a lot of
looks out there and um you know for the
most part we were we were both in at
most of the holes you know both of us
took a break on a couple holes but you
know that’s what that’s what the team’s
for so um you know we picked each other
up and and uh you know had a good day
just like usual we ham and egged it um I
don’t think either either of us were
feeling like amazing about our games
coming into the day um but we just kind
of feed off each other really well I
think we both relax each other out there
um and beste ball is just a fun format
man like I didn’t putt great last week
but he he had a lot of holes where he
snuggled it up there nice and close for
par and and it really freed me up and
you just kind of get confidence that way
and I I think even you watching me make
some putts like gave you confidence and
you poured them in at the end so yeah I
was doing a lot of spectating today
but I made a couple long putts I think
that uh contributed but it was I don’t
know it was fun it’s fun to play golf
with a good buddy we got off to a really
good start and as Dave mentioned um when
I birdied a hole Dave kind of stepped in
right on the next um so we kind of fed
off each other really well um I guess
that’s what team golf is about um so
yeah I mean we got the momentum going
pretty early um um and just kind of kept
it flowing throughout the round um had a
good section in the middle and Dave
finished off great in the last three hle
so it was pretty even between us and uh
yeah just kind of fed off each other and
kept the round going really nicely
