golfers don’t really understand when
they should hinge their wrist in the
takeaway and what impact it has like
look at this right if you work your Club
away no risk like this think about it
how hard is it to get power we
compromise Club face whereas if we get
it correct boom we’re going to have
hinge we going have power Club face
control and we all know that means
 longer straighter shots here’s five
simple steps to follow to get the right
wrist hinge in your golf swing so step
one is just setting up a drill that you
can follow I always think when I leave
students and I let them go out of a
lesson Bay they’ve got to know exactly
what they’re doing because if they go
and practice and don’t know how to
implement it how can you improve so
we’re going to place one Golf Club down
here and this one will just be our feet
line so if we drag a golf ball in that’s
going to be our first golf club we got
our feet to run parallel to that okay
our second Golf Club is going to run
here at roughly sort of a 45° angle so
we’ve got an angle that starts our golf
ball 45 45 and this sort of shows us the
first half of our takeaway so look at
this on player cam this is exactly how
you can set it up and you know what the
beauty of this drill is you’re able to
hit golf balls with it time after time
making sure you’re implementing it so
set it up just like that that’s stage
one now as a golf coach if you slice if
you hook you lose control of the club
face I always look at this halfway back
position now I want you just to check
this and have a look where you are so
almost do some false swings this is
stage two here boom go like this now
look at my wrist if I have the club open
I tend to see a CED wrist like that all
the knuckles you can see that from
player cam I can see all those Knuckles
now if we tend to hook the golf ball
we’d be the opposite of this we’d be all
those Knuckles down to the ground then
have a look what that does to my club
face I severely close it and you got to
think if I’m closed there I’m probably
going to be closed at the top and I’m
probably going to be close the impact so
what we’re looking for is to hinge at
45° now when I do that I’m going to move
to you look how flat my left wrist is we
get the club face strong we get the club
face Square everything we’re looking for
so the number at stage two I want you to
realize is 45 and just get that
 awareness that halfway back is
absolutely vital for where you are at
the top and where you are at impact
we’re now on to stage three so let’s
just talk through these zones so our
golf ball to the golf club would be Zone
one that let’s say that’s 25% of our
back swing the golf club to the golf
club on the ground is another 25% so
that makes half of our back swing up to
around hip height the rest of that is
here now I always get asked the question
about wrist hinge where do we do it how
do we do it and it’s hard to know now
I’ve seen a lot of questions here on the
channel that’s why we’re covering wrist
hinge today like Alex where do I hinge
my wrists but if you pop your question
down below and I see a host of questions
 about Fairway Woods driver putting
chipping whatever it is I will then
create a video because I powered by you
the viewers to be the chance of having
 your question answered just subscribe
turn the bell and that way you will
never miss me answering your question so
let’s really get into this so if we
looked at we’re looking at the first 50%
 of our
swing I want you to really understand
this we don’t want it just to be hinge
than turn but we need 25% hinge and 25%
 turn now in an ideal
scenario this happens as a blend okay
but I’m going to break this down so at
stage three I just want you to practice
this no turn right now but hinging where
you match look at this in player cam the
golf club on the floor match the golf
club match the golf club and just
practice that action that is stage three
and I can’t tell you how much I really
want you to to do this cuz we’re getting
the club face good we’re getting the
wrist in under control and we’re hitting
an exact point and I find golfers really
improve when they’ve got an exact point
to work to so stage three really focus
on that action so let’s move swiftly on
to stage four remember there are only
five stages here today that are there to
help you improve so stage four we’re now
going to bring in a bit of turn so have
a look at me here I would really want
you to go set turn now what I’m turning
all my hands are doing is moving down
this line here so watch me again set
turn look where my club is really
powerful and I really get students now
 at stage four to set
turn hit the gold ball away I mean look
how little effort that was but look at
the flight I have just achieved and
really starting to understand and get
the feeling of pressure down on the ball
because look I’m here and then I can be
here so much easier I’m not a saving
mechanism through impact so to summarize
that stage four we’re going to practice
setting down the golf club move the
hands down the golf club on the floor
that being this one here so we set down
here hands move down here watch that
 again set move
through really getting that first phase
of that back swing absolutely dial now
we’ve really segmented that down let’s
now bring it all together let’s now
bring this all together and I said this
at the start of the video didn’t I we
want to have it as a blend so you can
really just fire this away here feeling
those elements now I’m going to tell you
what I feel but I’m sure when you do
this drill you will start to develop
some of your own feels in your swing so
if I stand Here address that gold ball I
move the head a little bit with the
intention of matching my shaft on there
but as I’m doing that I’m moving my
hands down this golf club so it would
look like this I’m going to do it really
 slowly for
you and through and I really like
hitting shots hitting rep after rep
after rep down at the driving range
really blending that in it’s set turn I
really feel powerful I really feel under
control because I’m controlling the club
face with my wrist to start the golf
swing so stage five is just bring all
that together really use that drill as
your guide thanks so much for watching
 and hopefully well hopefully this
definitely will tell you when to move
 your wrist in the swing

Exactly where to hinge the wrists for EXTRA control & power with irons and driver. Always start the swing on plane!
Sup alex 👍
Great drill. You have me so busy at the range and I can see the improvement. Thanks for sharing all these drills.
Great tip! I'd enjoy a video that addresses various lies, slopes, and how to setup and hit ball well. In U.S. just returned from spring break trip where I played a links style course that was very wet and a Florida course where the rough areas caused me to hit some wedges where the ball was sitting up fine but I just went under the ball and got no distance. You're probably thinking ball striking lesson, but from most good lies I did hit good strikes; ball first divot after. It was the off fairway, off green shots that caused me headaches.
Love the video really good detail, however how do I stop flicking my wrists at impact ??
Alex, is the wrist hinge the same with Driver and fairway woods?
A very thorough and complete explanation and demonstration Alex in five stages on how to properly hinge! Something I will remember! Well Done Alex!
Another great video, Alex. Perfect timing, I just bought a G snap wrist training aid and was struggling with it. This drill along with that should help immensely 👏👏👍.
Good topic. What drills do you use that increase your speed? How did you get to 110mph and above consistently.
Great variation so helpful
I watched a video recently on grips and wrist angles and I went from a neutral grip to a weak grip with a bowed wrist and address. First few sessions hitting and rounds it felt awesome and was going well. But then I slowly started to get super left with my path, to a point where it almost felt like I couldn’t swing right at all. Haven’t been able to make good contact for over a week now.
Watched this video and went out and hit a few following these steps and contact and flight were great. Has me thinking maybe where I was so bowed I was making too much turn with my arms at takeaway and I needed this to get that balance back.
Great tip Alex!
Odd question perhaps, but any thoughts on which hand facilitates the hinge? I swing a club/bat righty but I throw lefty and consider myself left-hand dominant. I don’t feel I get enough hinge and sometimes wonder whether my “weak” right hand should be doing more pulling to get that hinge going whereas now it feels like the right hand just comes along for the ride while my left does most of the (attempted, and not great) hinging.
Good info
Great videos. Can you do a video on swing depth in the backswing as I’m not sure if mine is deeper enough. Thanks.
VIDEO for u to do Alex concerning this "thing" called hinge …. ANY real good golfer knows that how, what reason and when one hinges the club is ALL depending on feet speed, body turn speed vs hand speed … u should address that one!! DJ bows that wrist like crazy… reason being that he is soooo quick and strong with his body that turns crazy much + fast … so his body speed makes this possible … if one does this with slow body and fast hands that ball would go 200 yards left!!!! Doing all sorts of hinging has a cause/reason … = SPEED match of hands vs body + foot work…. hope you'll make that video ….huge video it would be for regular golfers to understand heh… 😛 …. cause you and me both know that one isn't better than the other … it just depends on the human and how he/she moves holding the club …
You’re the first person to explain this wrist hinge clearly for me. Thank you.
Porzak golf does a great explanation of wrist hinge fyi
Another great video, I did this the last time I was at the range and it made an amazing difference in yardage!
I love the drill. I have been working on the flat wrist thing the whole winter. But the next problem I have, is a too steep backswing at the top. Are there some good swing thoughts for getting flatter? Thanks.
❤
Fantastic video Alex! You jumped right into teaching and explaining the drills. I love it. I want to thank you for taking the time to teaching the viewers. Cheers!
Explained very well ❤
What a superb video exactly what I need thank you!
Interesting that you advocate a little wrist hinge already at takeaway. I know my group is a minority, but for naturally very wristy duck hookers like me, I found the best remedy was to avoid (well.. feel like I avoid that is) any hinge whatsoever until my club passes my trail knee on the takeaway – this effectively started the cure to my inside takeaway, too shallow swing plane, massive in-to-out paths, and opened the door for me to finally start fading the ball. Lovely game.
Good video nonetheless… the clubface check on P2 is still key I think. For my old swing, that was the first hint for me.. I would normally have a problem checking the face at P2 because it practically had already disappeared behind me, LOL.
Would that be the same with driver Alex?
Great tuition 👍

well said Alex,
Scientific teaching❤
Well done, Alex . I tend to hinge way too much at the beginning of my takeaway, and this hinge lesson will surely help me with that. Thank you
Thanks Alex, this lesson has made a big difference as I was moving my body first then trying to hinge my wrists.👏👏👍
Thnaks🎉
Good video Alex
Excellent explanation and demonstration. Question. Is there a big difference between angle you take your driver back compared to your wedges please.
The worst
Alex, in this video your back foot apers to be about 3 inches from the club on the ground whereas your front foot is apears to be 6 inches away from the club! Is this a result of camera
angle or is your stance slightly open?
Alex, I’ve got to say this is the simplest and best drill I’ve seen on YouTube. I will make this my go to every time before I play.
By the way I’ve just retired and taking up golf.
Should I do this with driver too
