was very disappointed in that um it
looked very blatant to us um when the
team comes to you and says wear this
glove you just say
Okay um I mean yeah um you know that’s
kind of how a lot of things work and um
you know as a driver you you know you
you work with the team and hey I’m going
to take a portion of responsibility of
that too obviously um I should I put the
glove on um you know said I didn’t build
a glove
go make it on my own um I can’t sew okay
um so yeah I mean that’s what it was and
you know we have conversations about it
what I’m proud about as team is that you
know yeah that was a tough situation for
us it hard to go through and um
embarrassing uh for sure but um the fact
that we got through it and just move on
and and focus on the next week and we
show that we have some speed in our race
car and be able to uh put it on the poll
here it kind of says to me a statement
type lap so proud of that did that I
want say add motivation but does this
does it make this poll mean anymore the
fact that you went out there and had
Speed without we assume any sort of oh I
got plenty of motivation really ever
since you said I wasn’t going to make
the playoffs this year I’ve had plenty
of motivation okay so I’m I’m a good I’m
in a good place and uh you know the
thing about the glove is they say well
you know these things aren’t tested for
fire retardant and stuff like did you do
you feel like like you put yourself in a
sort of unsafe no position no I I I
personally did not if if I ever you know
I wouldn’t ever put myself in a
situation where I feel unsafe I have
kids I have a wife I have a family that
I care way more about than race cars and
um yeah no I didn’t feel concerned about
what we did I race with it so qualifying
on Speedways is pretty simple I talked
to at earlier and he said the glove uh
likely probably doesn’t have that big of
a deal but it might make people feel
better is it more important to feel
better than than to worry about the
glove type situation I didn’t feel
better after it I could tell you that
much so it’s directionally better how
much better probably nothing that’s the
part that hurts the most it was even
worth it so uh yeah it it didn’t do
anything to speak of it’s
directionally an area that everybody
goes to try to you know block that that
hole um you you see everyone put their
hand there we just try to cover more
space

Only thing I’ll say it’s the fire issue is something you shouldn’t scuff at. Go ask Romain Grosjean about all the burns scars on his hands after his accident. The other issues people are mentioning, who cares. But the fire issue is a big deal.

Seems there's a comment section full of people who I guess think rules should only be enforced if the infraction isn't deemed silly or ineffective. Nascar didn't make an illegitimate rule to cover a glove, the glove was a stupid way to violate a legitimate rule. Stupid, but a violation none the less. Take the piece of tape under the nose wrap of the Toyotas last year. If you argue that one piece didn't violate the modification rules. Then how many till it does? What's the abaritray number of pieces where i go from not modifying the nose to modifying?
