hello everyone we’d like to welcome
defending Champions Nick Hardy and Davis
Riley to the media center at the zurk
classic of New Orleans all right Nick we
will start with you all right so how
does it feel to be back here at New
Orleans defending champs yeah it feels
amazing uh a lot of good memories from
last year you know showing up to the
course yesterday and playing uh some
holes with Davis it’s just
uh it was um yeah it was a lot of fun
getting to reminisce on the great shots
we hit on Sunday last year and um yeah
it’s just Good Vibes all around I love
coming here I love this tournament love
this golf course it’s in amazing shape
this year too so that’s a you know
that’s a treat and Davis how excited are
you to team up with Nick again this year
yeah obviously it’s nice to come back to
a place where we had success and
obviously we played last couple days
together it’s pretty cool to walk
through some of the holes and kind of
reminisce on some of the cool shots we
hit and um but yeah just trying to
repeat and replicate what we did last
year and we’re having a lot of fun out
there so far
and Nick what would you say the key to
success here is at TPC
Louisiana um you know I I think uh the
golf course um really rewards I think
good iron play and good ball striking
because a lot of times when you miss
around the green here you can uh have
some tougher up and downs to elevated
greens and chipping uh downhill and on
slopes and the greens uh can get a
little tricky if you miss on the edges
so I think keeping a alternate shot uh
pretty stress free is a is a A plus
um and then just kind of having fun in
baseball and making making as many
birdies as you can and Davis how does
this team format play well to you in
Nick’s
partnership yeah you know we were
talking about with somebody about this
earlier uh I think we just pair so well
together cuz our games are very similar
um we hit it similar distance both good
iron players um so I think and like Nick
said I feel like it’s a second Shot Golf
Course and uh I feel like it sets up
really well for both of our games and um
and yeah it’s not and it’s not like a
crazy amount of strategy you know we’re
very similar so we’re both comfortable
you know doing whatever um so yeah I
think the course fits both of our games
and we’re just I think comfortable
around this golf course perfect so now
we’re going to open it up to the floor
if you guys could raise your hands and
we’ll bring over a microphone for
you
go uh for both of you excuse me um where
where last year did it really come
together I know obviously the final
round but did was anything done in the
first three rounds that kind of made you
believe that y’all would be able to do
something like that I think we just had
a good mojo going the whole week uh I
think we believed in it in each other I
remember walking off the green on Friday
with Davis and we were like man like
let’s go we’re right in it I think we’re
only a few back we’re like let’s go win
this thing like we were serious about it
and uh we we said that to each other and
I think we just had Good Vibes we didn’t
um really get down on ourselves we both
held great attitudes and I think that
kept the momentum going um and we just
jived off each other really well and uh
we just had the momentum going and kept
it going until uh yeah late on Sunday
afternoon the back nine we really
blitzed
it yeah um I don’t know if I can put my
finger on a particular instance but yeah
like Nick said after Friday um because
you kind of really figure out where you
are in the tournament after the second
day once you get one best ball and one
alternate shot under your belt uh yeah
we’re right in the thick of thing and uh
I guess now to think about it on um
Friday on the last toll we actually were
in alternate shot we ended up making
bogey uh to end Friday um and we were
kind of like H it kind of sucks to you
know bogey the last hole being a par
five but I remember we turned to each
other and we’re like we’re playing
really really good golf right now if we
just keep what doing what we’re doing
we’re going to have you know a really
good shot at this we’re be be able to
control our own destiny so um yeah like
Nick said we just kind of we’re good
buddies we kind of feed off of each
other really well and there’s just a
really good um since a confidence and
Mojo about us you know pretty much the
whole
week coming off of last year with this
the success that you had is there even
any question or any discussion about
strategy or do you just simply not talk
about that and just continue what you
finished last year no we we’re not
changing anything no we we uh we made
that pretty clear right when we got here
um nothing changes in terms of strategy
and what we did I got odds he’s got
evens an alternate shot and we’re
primarily playing his golf ball so
nothing has changed really no in the in
the weeks leading up to this event if
you’re in locker rooms at other PGA Tour
events is it almost like prom season
where you guys already have a date and
your guys are sort of like looking
around seeing like well who’s who’s
going to kind of ask out who well it’s
kind of nice obviously we know who we’re
going to be pairing up with each other
after last year so yeah you certainly
see guys that are kind of scrambling
around to find a partner but uh no yeah
it was uh the strategy’s been easy we’re
honestly trying to do everything to a
tea as we did last year and uh yeah it’s
nice showing up on site not having to
worry about who your partner is or
anything like that I think I think
that’s a great part about this event
though there is like a buzz in the
locker room about guys what you’re going
to pair up with as early as January like
right first event so um people you know
players are looking forward to coming
here and looking forward to finding a
partner for this so I think um I think
that’s what’s the fun of it for
us I assume you practiced yesterday and
you played this morning right um what’s
the course playing like is it a little
different than last year I think it’s in
they told us it was in better shape than
last year at this time yeah you know I
feel like it’s maybe a bit firmer than
it has been uh maybe last year obviously
when coming in things like that might
change that a little bit but uh the
course is in awesome shape every year
I’ve been here it’s been in awesome
shape and um you know just showing up on
site Monday Tuesday I’m like wow this
place is in awesome shape and uh yeah
it’s it’s one of the best all year and
certainly a track I look forward to
playing every year and uh but yeah it’s
in great shape and maybe if I could put
a finger on anything it might be a
little bit firmer than I’d seen it and
probably only going to get firmer with I
think some expected win coming in
throughout the week yeah the forecast is
very similar to last year and we’re
getting a Southeast wind which is really
similar to three of the days we had it
last year so the course yeah it’s every
year we come here it seems like it’s in
great shape and I do think it’s going to
get firm a little firmer than last year
as the week goes on
mhm all right do we have any additional
questions for Nick and
Davis no you visited the Saints facility
yesterday can talk a little bit about
that and you being close and a Saints
fan probably your whole life how that
was special oh it was super special I
was uh just all struck when I kind of
walked in there you know seeing coach
and getting up to hang out and see where
all the guys train at um the weight room
the indoor um and we actually got to go
up to the uh draft room and check that
out and see where they’re going to be
making their big pick come Thursday um
so all that was pretty surreal and um to
meet coach and just see the players um
Walkers and see where they you know get
all their work in and stuff was really
cool you know obviously being Saints fan
living you know born and raised pretty
close to here um so yeah it was
certainly a
treat did you get a picture of the draft
board no phones yeah coach was uh quick
to say no phones and whatever said in
here stays in here so no it’ll uh but
but I’m I’m I’m really excited to see uh
you know who they choose come Thursday
but who who else did y’all visit with
y’all visited with Dennis Allen he saw
y’all yeah yeah yeah any anybody else
that that Mickey showed us around which
was amazing uh it was such a cool
experience I mean um going to the draft
G like we talked about I mean it’s like
wow this is like and all everyone was in
there working all 30 about 30 30 of them
in there um getting ready for it so it’s
it’s just cool they’re simulating stuff
and they let us in they they they let us
into their world which was really really
cool and need of them to do especially
this time like it’s crunch time for
them I did yeah I did I was asking them
their opinion on what they should do
with one and nine and uh it was it was
awesome it was cool I I told them my
opinion and um they gave me a lot of
their opinions and uh yeah no they they
did uh they did say they were on the
phone with Nick Sabin while we were
there so they were getting uh the the
Alabama boys scouted up yeah no I I
would be pretty happy if they they took
a Alabama guy off the board that’ be
pretty cool um but yeah know it’ll be
interesting to see what they do and
obviously it looks like they’re doing
all the things and it’s kind of crazy
the process they go through I mean they
had a group of 30 people in there and
they’ve got all these different
scenarios they’re running and um it
looks like they’re pretty you know
they’ve done all the work and there’s no
situation that’ll come too far of a
surprise but just the the amount of team
members it took just to prepare for that
night and those picks and all the stuff
was pretty cool and I was it was like a
kid in the candy store it was really
cool I think it’s pretty funny they want
our job and I want their job
