The Players Championship 2024, Round 1 | EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS | 3/14/24 | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1

the highlight of the morning without a
doubt happened in the 10th group to come
to 17 the New Zealander Ryan
foxs he made Eagle the hole before at 16
and the ace at the Fain 17th hole Ryan
Fox brought him out of their seats early
in the par five 535 yds mattye Schmid
sets a play his second this was earlier
front left hole location here today uh
there’s a couple of ways to get it close
you can land a little right of the hole
let release or go right at it like that
just do that for the eagle
opportunity for Schmid one of the better
second shots we’ve seen in there the 26y
old from
Germany got it so he missed his first
six Cuts finish tied for 10th I like the
fact he’s gripping down on it so it
indicates to me it’s a longer club with
less Loft so try to drive it in there
low see more of an easier arm swing
there great job of controlling the
distance with his wedges earlier today
and that’s a fine shot underneath the
hole in the middle of the Arnold Palmer
Invitational this for birdie and a share
of the
lead and a little bit of history at the
Players as well melroy’s ninth
birdie four players have had 10 and he
has 10 with that one so add to it even
with putting two balls in the penalty
area off the teeth today just love the
setting here Scott Stallings tough day
so
far one of the longer hitters just a gap
wedge
uhoh right well okay now you’ve seen a
few of those over the years right it’s
not a sound you generally generally like
to hear at 17 but that turned out all
right those bulkheads only about 9 or 10
in wide and for being so small in terms
of the width it’s amazing how often we
hear balls rack it off there some 12200
of them ring the 17th
green well the amazing thing to me is
how the tour players play these shots
they don’t practice this this is all
about imagination and
feel this is a guy who’s got plenty of
both what a Terri shot a
shot g a little Ry smile
yeah worth it
too bones over
there let’s flip over to the 13th a
moment ago the 186 yd par three Nikolai
Bo guard back left hole location here
Mike you can utilize the slope that’s in
the middle of the green land it to the
right of the
hole let it
Trickle a little bit like that done mhm
Harris Engish is just beginning his
first round pretty manageable bunker
shot here sand is fairly predictable and
when it’s predictable Steve you can make
some magic that is how you start the
50th players Harris English makes it
from the bunker of 10 and he is now one
under and another man in the Fairway
here at this par
for he’s done done such a wonderful job
of elevating his game coming off the
corn fairy tour you can see that huge
power is this going to go down did he do
it oh it rims out but he’s going to have
a tap in for another birdie Jake naap is
going to get to three under par through
four holes look how close this came to
going down yeah that’s hard to hard to
believe it did not just took a little
turn right at the last second again
shefford another rid iron here
here just right to the
hole wow that’s Bea that is really
[Applause]
good that’s yeah that’s the stroke that
we saw last week right there he’s a
young guy exactly right let’s go see the
sixth well placed in the Fairway here at
the par 4 is Hideki
yeah he’s going to take that aim as well
just oh yeah getting right in the
Fairway guys and you can just see the
wind just limply waving in the breeze so
not a whole lot of win
yet and Hideki curls himself back to
even
par
okay at the 12th here’s Cameron
younging the lofted club going to get a
little spin on it
bingos beautifully done there by Cameron
from off the green going in from
everywhere speaking of that from just
off the edge JJ
spawn well anytime you have a chance to
make a burn here whether it’s from that
distance or not but that’s stealing
right
there looking to throw that past theall
bring it back little there you go
never put a ball in the water nine shots
at it of
course yeah even though this is off the
right side of the green it’s a real
opportunity to make a
three and it just falls in the front
edge how about this start for fatia
eight Matthew Pavone who seemed like he
was on top of the FedEx Cup points list
for years it was was just supped by
shler last week but a long roll for the
guy that one at Tory Pines and Shane
Lowry over at the
six again had a good week last
week yeah we’ve been saying his name
seems like
forever it up and Lowry moves in to Red
figures you hit for his second at the
11th for another Eagle
here so Kevin you another one of
those 22 first timers has his first
Eagle here in the playoffs to move to
500 to Three B Schmid has a good start
going started on 10 here he is on the
par three third aggressive
line um and great distance control as
well say
wow U you know you haven’t hit it as far
as you’ve intended to up at n with Max
Homer remember the shot from the bunker
this’s the birdie pun oh coming back for
H he told us he likes to put these
greens something about being on the
level of the water too not being above
and looking down but it’s right next to
you the whole way in the meantime
they’ve been cranking out Eagles at 16
that is the seventh Eagle on the par
five
today good drive down the right center
of the
Fairway to the middle of the grain there
you go go JT Poston doing his thing
right narrow stance shoulders are
open yeah for back toback birdes D made
one at 16 one under for his first seven
holes yeah beautiful big breaker to the
right Chris Kirk one of those guys his
putting stroke matches his full swing
moment ago tan at the 16th close range
good look and add another one to to the
list Eagle at 16 these soft conditions
it allows the players to play it right
at that flag STI normally they’d have to
play it out to the left and use the kick
keep your head up I guess 11 I mentioned
Fitzpatrick was getting something going
there he makes the birdie at 11 and he
has a nice run going four the last five
and three in a row he’ll heads to the 12
at three under par and this is the one
you want to get way up in here Gary get
this at land as softly as you can
104t Apex that’s pretty high and that
lands pretty
softly for Eagle
now Dan I mentioned Nick Taylor’s name
if he makes this putt they tie they play
both practice rounds
together oh you got to hit it I hate to
leave an eagle putt short straight up
the hill but he’s going to get within a
couple of mooy and shafley maybe it’ll
be Connor is who gives that
those seven Under Numbers a
run and this a moment ago Marty Schmid
for
birdie first part of the putt up the
slope and then once it gets into this
low area downhill moving
left
35t thank you very
much yeah the Duke grad very slender
with a lot of ball speed is not been a
good 2024 for
SMY the green at 17 this is a very quick
putt down the slope moving
right oh why not why
not I think Hayden Buckley’s got this
hole I think he likes
it speaking of birdies hubber up close
here at the sixth The Familiar posture
of Hub who bends over as much as anybody
is spine angle way over there inclined
and he’s a very good putter how about
this five birdies the lone bogy and
small Le birdie attempt just a little
shorter version of the putt we just saw
notti
hit it’s going wander away to the
right how about that I thought they
would move to the right there yeah that
one stayed straight the whole way down
back to the ninth we saw the terrific
second from Schmid one of the rare
players to get to the ninth and two
chance to finish with an
eagle putting down through the low back
up to the upper level this looks really
good man that is the first eagle of the
day at the ninth and someway to finish a
round of
68 for Schmid Ben on looking to finish
with something in the
60s
69 let’s see if any of these guys can
convert it’s home of
first yeah jar for 12 and 1/2 ft the
longest of the three Birdie putts on
this 15th hole and Mark
hovert got eight and N to finish out
this uh quality first round playing that
big left to right good direction oh good
shot lands right on the front look at
Mark Hub bonus per here if you can roll
that
in right there it hits that down slope
it gets a little fast but it doesn’t
seem to be too fast today for these
players oh yes
yes Eagle lands for the
Frenchmen come back and just throw the
club head through and know you’re going
to hit another Fairway all that’s left
for Fitzpatrick to Eagle and now he is
within
one as he heads over over to the island
green with Big Time momentum up at 18
Sam Ryder who had his troubles at
17 this to get a little something better
from The Stadium
Course doesn’t make sense this game
sometimes but what a good drive just to
get it in that Fairway on the right side
and one of the best irons we’ve seen
into this final hole since they started
keeping track years
ago six we’ve got Connors for
birdie that be a big bounce back after
the double it’s go to the 11th and
Charlie Hoffman’s got a putt here for
Eagle laid starter off the first it’s
three over on the front that should come
back to the
right Eagle for the
[Applause]
seagull to three and this is the last
group that started on 10 sweeping around
the front David skins had a birdie on
Two and a birdie on three nice little
run yeah maybe pretty tricky straight
down the hill for McNeely just chugging
away over here moving up the board hole
after hole another one lands he joins
the group at five under now back at the
six Chris Kirk for birdie putting
through just a little bit of
collar Chris Kirk for under I haven’t
seen many putt from that side with that
big palm tree there it’s all been from
the center of the green that’s kind of
that lazy stroke we talked about when he
made that big bender on 17 he’s the only
guy that seemed to make that but three
holes left for him over on that front
side morawa for birdie at 16 walks it
in importance of the first round here is
huge you know it’s been only one
Champion five or eight iron to this par
five making mince meat out of it Aon
batley’s
third just pitching it on and
in just unbelievable you a lot of
players have puted that one he chose the
The lofted Sand
Wedge maoy shle Clark all shoot 65 with
Fitzpatrick and Taylor one behind number
one in the world Scotty Sheffer along
with Jason day 10 in the world ler
Goldberg and on back to the continued
good scoring in the rounds of 68 as well
with the scoring average right around
even par here on a great day

  1. Man this is some crappy highlights…/ how do you not show Rory and Xander’s’ rounds? Rory makes ten birdies and you show a couple shots. Come on guys you have some rookies working over there. Do better!!!!

  2. Terrible "highlights"! Week after week the PGA highlights are nonsensical. The video BEGINS with LEADERS Shauffle and Rory finishing! Shauffle not shown at all! Jason Day 5 under, not shown at all! I could go on…LIV Tour is KILLING the PGA. More talent, more personality, and THEIR highlights DON'T suck!

  3. terrible highlights.. one shot from rory and not one of co leader shauffele. good thing we got to see matt fitzpatrick tap in 2 two foot putts tho

  4. 2 guys abd 50 friends…yeah.. PGA has the best fields… well except for all them Allstars in LIV

  5. Anyone remember when Matsuyama shot like 60 the first day and CO-VID? The tournament was canceled and the next 2 years sucked. I think it was Matsuyama. #F$&K LIV

  6. Have these guys seen highlight videos from other sports? … when are we going to get competent golf highlights. Absolutely appalling. Fire somebody ASAP!!

  7. HEY LPGA Why aren't the ladies playing this course. Imagine Lexi, Nelly ,Cleine and company playing 17. WAKE UP LPGA !!!!!

  8. All I know is Kisner is every bit as bad as Azinger was. I'm watching the tournament with the sound off again. All they did was trade one a-hole for another.

  9. Brother Cam Smith living right down the street and not playing in this tournament. Really stupid situation. The "he made his choice" arguments are completely lame and out of touch.

  10. You know I don’t know what it is but there’s just too much coming at us with the announcers with Trico and the new guy. Kisner and Faxon has just way too technical for me and then you have Dan Hicks who solid do we need 15 guys talking about the golf no settle down slow down the stats and just fax and especially justsays so many things that are unnecessary. I don’t need to hear that I see the shot I mean do we need all this commentary what’s changed?
