welcome back now it’s time for the
Legends agenda with Steve blocker roach
and Benny Elias how are we Legends well
good I’ve been better oh really I know
why that’s we got Tigers Legends on
tonight which is pretty good timing and
appropriate given the circumstances at
lart at the moment what does the ground
mean to the Tigers like cardoval can I
start off by saying uh I can understand
Mr Richardson coming in and making all
these rash decisions what I’d like to
say to him is have you ever
bothered to walk down on game day down
the street Glover Street or Mary Street
or does he even know that Lori Nichols
has a little lame way down there have
you ever walked with the fans and felt
what it means to people look I mean I I
got to be careful cuz I get emotional
about it because I spent a lot of my
life there Benny was exactly the same
mate it it means something to the People
Mate rugby league isn’t all about
champagne and caviar and all that sort
of stuff it’s about it’s about tribalism
and people going along to that ground
now if you’ve never done the walk and
gone down there candy you’ve done it
plenty of times if you’ve never done
that walk and gone down there and
understand what it means to people and
families on the hill grandfathers with
sons and then their sons with their
young BLS man it’s it it just it just
builds it just builds Nostalgia I agree
and and blocky I look I absolutely agree
with blocky there and you want to ask
the people who really matter at the
moment it’s the spectators
it’s the players you ask them would they
like to play at like hardal this weekend
against param I’ll guarantee you go and
ask the coach where would they like to
be playing this weekend like we had an
extraordinary game there last week where
we had our first very convincing win
lard AAL played a very very big part of
that and they’ve got to forget where
they came from and this is place here
has brought so many Legends of the game
along here The Spectators it’s a it’s
almost a bucket list for a for a rugby
league spectator to go and experience
standing on the hill watching the Tigers
play on a Sunday Saturday afternoon
Sunday afternoon it is just brilliant
before before we start talking about
getting rid of it right it’s the worst
house on the best street let’s do it up
honestly is there another place in in
sport that’s got a better oval than lart
AAL I don’t think I don’t think there is
you guys worried Shane Richardson’s got
a bit of form good yeah yeah with moving
team or from one oval to the other yeah
are you concerned that he he’s going to
get absolutely but the good thing about
Shane richson he’s only there
temporarily let’s not forget that he’s
only been he’s been put in there for six
months so far well so far well if he’s
obviously looking for a long term long d
a big Stadium deal they might fall in
love with him and keep him there longer
yeah but you reckon I reckon he might I
reckon he might have even done it
already I reckon it’s to smother all
this I reckon I reckon the deal’s
already done well if that’s already done
very dis been 100% you think so yeah of
course well that’d be look the Mandate
came from Peter valanis who says he
wants to play more games at Suburban
grounds you have a capacity crowd there
if we were playing param this weekend
there this would be the hottest ticket
in all of Sydney this would be the
hottest ticket in all of Sydney now what
do people do if they can’t go to the
game they go to the pubs clubs watch it
or they go home and watch it now people
who aren’t subscribed to Fox Sports
obviously what would they do I want to
watch the Tigers live on on the weekend
against param that’s s too around the
ground around the ground on Saturday
nearly all the pubs certainly all the
pubs I saw on Saturday were full were
full and full on the way out too they
won including including balloons and
stream gold balloons and streams
up around at the pubs which you don’t
normally get even to other places you
know you live in the affluent area
there 10 minutes to walk there and 25 to
walk home we’re not saying we’re not
saying it’s it’s it’s perfect at the
moment right it needs work of course we
all know that but mate please don’t get
rid of a place the thing about it’s a
fabric of the game and and removing L
car from it seems to just take one more
Stitch out of that fabric that we’ve
lost somewhere and it’s all for
basically a commercial decision rather
than a good of the game decision you two
are heading to the game this week AR you
we are uh we’ve been invited by param
can you believe we’re going on behalf of
param is that right to watch the ti to
go can I tell you the honest truth right
this is the honest truth and M I don’t
care I don’t care what people think
about this
right we SP we spilled blood on that
like for years and years years right and
I’m trying to talk about the mag pies
too right the mag pies was 100 years of
the mag pies there was a 100 Years of
the of the balain Tigers do you know
what they’ve brush 200 years of Heritage
they said we’ got a new club here M we
haven’t been involed we don’t get
invited anything we sorry I tell a lie
we got invited when they wanted to raise
money for the pathways that’s crazy yeah
now we get invited this week to do and I
saw your article goodbye liart that was
you know that was very clever with with
with your words but
look like heart there’s there’s a mayor
there by the name of Darcy bur Darcy
burn who’s been there forever he has got
plenty to say over the last 10 15 years
about lart oval he has to put his hand
in his pocket instead go to the
government he has to put his hand in the
pocket as a representative and as a
spokesperson and very very vocal person
for like hard oval put his hand in his
pocket and keep this over let me ask you
this though just as an old as old Bal M
stall worlds right okay started playing
the both in in the
80s merge with the West Tigers yeah
people like Tommy ronus no Kelly both D
sadly gone Dallas but but they were
never I never saw I never saw n Kelly I
never saw Tomy ronas at a West Tigers
game as a guest of the club I’ve never
seen clearly you two have never been
invited other than once when they tried
to raise money want to use your names
there
and we wanted to do yeah but how
disappointing is that cuz like is
another one I haven’t seened too many F
Junior mate Junior doesn’t go they
brushed Gary Jack the
last line in the sand and this is a club
the B that this is a club that okay
doesn’t want to recognize a players pre
merger but has such a struggle still
after 25 years to be one Club they they
are still split into B man and West Subs
many the truth be I PK did it it was a
big pill to swallow when we merged and
let’s not pretend that
the what about the fact this weekend
you’re going to watch parata and West
and you’re going as guest of parata yeah
well that’s that is just ridiculous I I
find that extraordinary that you guys
are going and taken param matter to
invite you the first time you’ve been
invited to a game as special guest yeah
it’s the opposition Club but but hey
it’s happened before I’ve done it with
Newcastle up in Newcastle that Newcastle
invit us to come up and you know be
there on on a West Tigers game when
Newcastle are playing but we’re invited
by Newcastle but
look we are the West tigers and let’s
embrace
the you we we are a little bit part of
the history of the club but we want to
feel part of it we don’t feel part of it
that’s the problem yeah we we get a
little bit peeved off I suppose blocky
at times when you know when we when we
see comments made by the CEO at the
moment about our loved ground that we’ve
broke bones and bled at the place Joy
sad we we’ve had we’ve had some you know
great times there blocking the
spectators all of a sudden this BL who’s
the inm CEO has come out and said we
probably need to look for another venue
you know lart over is
yeah he had a few people that complained
on Monday about the facilities like a
few people as I said to you you go ask
Benji you go and ask the players you go
and ask uh The Spectators where would
they like to be watching this uh this
game against param this weekend at lard
overal we’re talking about Benji and
talking about the players on the field
are outstanding lard overal against the
Sharks which is great to see after you
know tough times in in round one yeah
what did you love about it do you know
what I saw about it braith they went
after the Sharks I haven’t seen that
from a tiger side for a long long time I
I me I got to admit I was a bit critical
after with their with their forward play
in the first game about winning the
ground against against the camber
Raiders but I will say this time they
came out and mate they’ve already shown
they can play I saw a shot of Benji in
the in the box when they scored a try
and everyone was going off their heads
in the Box Benji just sat there nice and
calm do you know what I reckon that is I
reckon he’s finally seen something that
they work for in the whole off season I
don’t think it I don’t think it excited
him because of that reason he that’s his
expectation of him that’s how he accepts
him the play like if we had a player
number nine
ABY seen that’s as good as game I’ve
seen of any number nine seable you a
May I’m supposed to
say well you know but M that was a that
was a festar performance he was
brilliant you know and they got they got
players who are hungry they played
exception well and I can’t help myself
but go back to like coval that it was
this the the stage was set it was a
capacity crowd and they had got smacked
the week before this was the place to
make a statement over and and they did
it you know the expectation is there now
they’ve already they’ve set the bar
there now they’ve got to they’ve got to
reach that every week as we say blocky
one hot day don’t make a summer that’s
right you know it’s a long way it’s a
long way to go this param is a great
test

I used to like standing up with no seats watching Rangers vs celtic in the 80's With 120,000 other maddies, but its called advancement
Never shut the Tiger's den!! I went there so many times as a child best roots ground ever! Leichardt oval is like the colossium of the NRL hands down? If you've never watched a game there you should experience it, cos its awesome, ppl on the roofs of their houses n all around the whole ground? Awesome ground that should NEVER go! The club should start a petition to keep it open??
Please just hear what the 2 tigers are saying.
Fucking Disgrace OLD BOYS should always have free entry …..The Game has been built on their shoulders ! Long live Leichardt oval ….. From a Far north Queenslander . Good luck fellas
Besides the MCG, Leichhardt is the most sacred ground in Australia.
These two great players for Balmain but both have nothing good to say about West Tigers always put the boot into them so no wonder they don’t get invited to games by the joint venture club by the way Balmain league club doesn’t exist anymore so who’s paying the bills 💵 not Balmain and the council keeps putting up the fees to use Leichhardt Oval without doing much in upgrading the Oval with out state or federal money to play 4 games a year you are kidding the government needs to spend money on social housing and homeless services before sporting facilities
dont take liechardt away from the tigers or the fans, although im not a tigers supporter the ground holds fond memories for me, i remember spending wednesday nights watching the panasonic cup there as a chid, It saddens me knowing that todays fans have not and will not experience the passion and closness to game that derived from this ground or any of the other origional grounds. its where legends were made. keep liechardt, bring back redfern and belmore ovals.
My first NRL game live was on this ground.
refurbish leichardt and belmore
Blocker roach is right
this perfectly illustrates the folly of this never ending quest for the mythical "new fans" while the old fans walk away in droves…
Blocker is too good for this show,. When the rest open their mouth only BS and lies come out.
That's Elias? Fvck, the vax really fvcked him up
Love Blocka Roach and his passion for his club Balmain Tigers but, let's be serious, the 'tigers' dont exist anymore. The Wests Tigers are basically the Wests Magpies with the 'tigers' component a marketing symbol. Balmain bring little to the table in this day and age.
If it were not for the Maggies there would be no Tigers, just face it. Put the money for Leichhardt towards improvements at Campbelltown and give the outer southern suburbs a decent stadium to watch their team.
I played on that oval for 3 years as a Leichhardt junior.in the late 59 early 60 being in that change shed where all the TIGER greats changed. Was a fantastic feeling for us Kids Greatest memory scoring a try in the corner @ both ends of the field.against Ryde & Balmain United.Change the History & You will change the fans
Phil Gould once openly boasted. That the only place to be On a Sunday was@ leichhardt oval watching Or playing against Balmain he loved the place
200 years of history? League isn’t that old proves rugby league media can’t count
As a Manly fan I totally support the keeping Leichhardt
Ah, nostalgia ain’t what it used to be! Either knock it down and replace it with modern facility or move! Time waits for no-one. Many bigger clubs across the globe in all sorts of sports have battled with the same question and the Tigers are no different (as much much as as you would like to thinks you are). One thing is certain though, change needs to happen and shitty old stadiums are holding the Tigers and the NRL back. Avg attendance of 16k…fans aren’t exactly flocking! With a better stadium this could be closer to 30k and could cement them as a destination club.
1st and foremost, the NRL leadership at all levels have to stop considering clubs to be just franchises that can be moved or changed at will.
I'm a Cronulla Sharks fan, not an NRL fan, you move my club and I'm out of the NRL entirely, you merge it and I'm gone as well.
There are plenty of entertainment options now, I don't need to follow the NRL.
Id rather attend an authentic old school ground than a fancy new cooky cutter one
Tigers need stay at Leichhart Oval.
Good on Big Blocker Roach!!
The Tigers died during the merger.
If they had stuck true to Souths, and never merged, they met the criteria to survive.
Now they have been eaten by the Magpies.
There's your 30 pieces of silver you Judas club.
Blocker is a legend of a club that doesn't exist any more unfortunately.
Roach and Elias never played a game for West's tigers
❤️🐅
In 1979 I got to see my beloved Cronulla Sharks win their first silverware at Leichardt oval. Classic old ground. It took us a long time to win another trophy but we did.
Politicians waste coin on ridiculous ventures. Spend a few million on fixing the ground n facilities please also n co…
Albo n co
Balmain brings nothing to the wests tigers anyway no leagues club your broke wests have 2 and the $ western suburbs magpies sound good bye bye Balmain
Upgrade Campbelltown stadium, make it their home ground and change their name to the Macarthur Magpies.
Stop caring about sport, start living your life.. you’ll be a lot happier
💯💯💯💯!!!!.. AGREE..BLOCKER n BENNY.. TIGERS were my TEAM..growing UP!!!!..we got our CLUBS..TEAM..this is gettin FKN RIDICULOUS!!!!..🤬😡🤬😡👊🏿
Get over it Blocker. Stop wanting invites. Go and sit or stand on the hill and follow the tigers mate
Bunnies fan and we left Redfern. Get over it guys
When Fox Sports took over the Rugby League and created the NRL they described the fans as "wall paper." Blocker's right we're much more than that. I'm a Rabbitoh supporter and why in hell is a team called South Sydney playing in the West? Because the fans don't matter. They talk about shifting demographics. I now live in the west but I want to watch my team play on their turf. Fight for Leichhardt. You'll regret it if you don't.
WOW! 200 years of history? So Wests Tigers, a club formed in 1999, has a 200 year old history? Western Suburbs and Balmain Tigers folded faster than Superman on laundry day, and now their fans are screaming "What about our history?".
At least the merger wasn't a total con like Manly and North.
Yeah come on guys let’s do right by the game ! Dump the tigers all together and bring back the Magpies who’ve been financially propping up this shite excuse for a “joint” venture all along !
