Scottie Scheffler meets with the media following a Second Round 72 and is T1 heading into the Third Round.

Since 1934, the Masters Tournament has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments. Amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods, the first full week of April ushers in a stage unique to golf and to sport. Over four days and 72 holes, the smallest field in major championship golf competes for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history.

Scotty welcome back to the interview
room you entered the weekend as the
co-leader with rounds of 66 and 72 can
you please describe the challenging
conditions you had to battle out there
today yeah it was it was extremely
challenging um the winds were up very
high and you know they blows from
everywhere out here and so I think even
par this afternoon was was a really good
score and um yeah I can’t I can’t really
describe how windy it is and how
difficult the gusts are just because I
mean I I think you just have to be out
there and experience it um like hitting
shots into 11 and 12 today were just I
mean is so difficult um and like when
you have putts like I had a putt from
about four or five feet on number nine
and on a typical day it would have been
just outside the hole um with no wind
but I could hit it on that line and the
wind is blow so putts breaking right to
left winds blowing left to right and I
mean it can change the the break of the
put by a cup on either side um
especially at the speeds that these
screens are at so I mean everything out
there is extremely difficult when it’s
this windy um so I was definitely
definitely pleased to get in there and
even
par we will now open it up for questions
Jeffrey SC two quick ones if I could
what what was the role of experience on
a day like
today um not really sure I uh I think
for me mostly it was just trying to
manage my way around the golf course of
course and um that’s pretty much it just
trying to make as many pars as you could
and try to leave it in the right spots
but it’s it’s just so difficult when you
can’t tell where the wind is coming from
you can only you know make really an
educated guess and then try to go from
there and um for the most part I think
we did a pretty good job today we always
think when you get to the 13th T you’re
seeing the scoring holes out here is
that as hard as you’ve ever seen those
holes play 13
on pretty much I mean um like 13 for me
today was a good example of you know I
hit a good t- shot and hadit a really
good second shot and then you just get
gusted by the wind and then stuff like
that happens you know you make bogeys um
and then you get to 15 a hole that’s
typically reachable like yesterday I hit
driver three iron onto the green and
today and it was still a little bit into
the wind yesterday actually and I hit
driver three iron onto the green and
today it was so into the wind I hit
driver three iron and I had 70 yards
left
um so yeah big difference out
there Renee Renee
Michael thank you um the day is so long
and so challenging do you have to play a
little tricks with yourself to give
yourself a little break from the task at
hand while you’re between shots or any
other time yeah I try to relax as much
as possible out there but um you know I
feel like I teed off 10 hours ago I mean
it’s it was a long day out there um
Kaiser was wearing a watch and when we
got to 16t I think it was 657 so it had
already been over 5 hours
and I mean that’s that’s what happens
when you have greens this fast and this
much wind and that much water out there
it’s going to take a while to play golf
um that’s pretty much
it almost like US Open golf is often
like that isn’t it where the days are so
long and so mentally growing um I I
think major championship golf has a
tendency to just be very mentally
grinding um and days like today I think
are you know the extreme of that just
just with how much the wind is blowing
um it can be so difficult and you know
you just got to do your best to relax as
much as possible out there and and try
and
execute Sean will you hit balls
tonight um I was going to hit a few but
it’s pretty much dark um I’ll see if if
Xander’s still on the table then I may
hit a few just to just to get a f before
go go home um but outside of that you
know I may just may just head out and
with Meredith not being here what’s
missing when she’s not here with you
what’s missing yeah it’s difficult to
describe um but yeah it’s it’s a bit
weird you know it’s my first tournament
without her her being around in quite
some time um fortunately Nike kind of
takes care of my clothes this week so I
don’t have to pick up pick my own
outfits um you know did make breakfast
this morning which was an adjustment um
no but yeah I mean she’s obviously my
biggest supporter and I definitely miss
having her here but um you know it’s an
exciting time for for us and our lives
and um yeah fortunately she’s still at
home and feeling good so we’re grateful
for
that Abraham
I Scot how would you compare today
conditions with last year’s conditions
was it harder today or or last year I
think it was harder today what I
remember from last year was a lot of uh
a lot of rain which can be challenging
in its own way um today with the wind
and the firmness of the greens I would
say that it felt more challenging but I
don’t have like distinct memories of
last year outside of it just raining a
ton David
Scotty on a day like this uh even part
is a good score um does it some way
feel rewarding to fought through that
and and come up with a score that put
you tied for the lead yeah it’s
definitely rewarding um like I said it
was extremely challenging out there and
you know I’m proud of how I finished I
had I would say three really good pars
to finish the round you know three
really nice two putts
um yeah good par on 14 I can’t really
say it was a good par on 15 but really
anytime you make a par on a day like is
is typically good par um so yeah
definitely feeling pretty good with the
results from today and um you know
excited to get some rest and get ready
for tomorrow was there ever a situation
where you felt a little frustrated
because it just took so long and it was
so
hard or to fight the feeling I guess if
he be yeah I mean I think you get
frustrated sometimes when you think the
wind’s blowing One Direction and then it
just decides it’s going to blow the
complete opposite direction but outside
of that I mean that those are things
that you expect on days like today and
all I do is just try to control what
what I can control and then um you know
if I can do that then typically pretty
satisfied with the
results Scotty thank you for your time
and best of luck this weekend all right
thanks y’all

  1. Volume is much better, thank you. By the way, I hope my last diatribe on this/that subject didn't get anyone fired. Severely reprimanded? Yes. Sent back for remedial training with a real teacher. Absolutely.

  2. At 3:05 ish — But I could have spent that extra time looking for Bubba's 3rd provisional rather than watching Hovland read a putt. It's not so much the amount of time as it is the quality of the time spent during the grueling.

  3. I hope those asking questions here aren't getting paid. If so, it is theft. Just horrific white privilege, or First World privilege, to have the nerve to get paid to ask those lazy questions. I mean, wow.
