NASCAR on FOX is in the midst of its 24th NASCAR season in coverage. With the new 2025 TV deal NASCAR fans are locked in through year 31 with FOX Sports. With that being said it becomes more important for the broadcasters (who have already received large criticism since 2017) to improve. So, we need to talk about NASCAR on FOX… again.

we got to talk about NASCAR and fox
again no by the way for those of you
wondering this is not for the glazing of
hendrik Motorsports during the broadcast
was it mildly annoying yeah I’ll admit
it was but to be fair hendrik
Motorsports is the best team in NASCAR
possibly NASCAR history and it was well
earned plus there are many and much
bigger things that are issues with
NASCAR and Fox right now than just one
annoying storyline in a
broadcast but before I go into too hard
I do again want to talk about what is
better this year because I have praised
NASCAR and fox and Fox Sports for what
they’ve done in the cup series and I do
think that overall they have been better
this year than the last couple but just
because they’re better than Rock Bottom
doesn’t mean they’re are things that are
completely perfect no matter what and
nothing else there are things to improve
but things have gotten better are in the
booth and in the pits Harvick in the
booth has improved I think the
seriousness and the validity taken of
this booth and has kind of pushed down a
bit of the Boyer isms I’ve said this
before and I’ll probably say it again
and Mike Joy has Renewed Energy he seems
10 to 15 years younger in the booth and
for the most part isn’t getting as many
easy things wrong like he used to in the
pits I think they’re at the top of their
game Jamie a little especially with her
new segment highlighting cruise is
something that I think should be
expanded upon in the coming years as
long as none of the talent moves around
and they can actually keep bringing
these really good stories out each week
but this is where the praise ends those
things that’s it this I think has
actually made the shortcomings more
frustrating for me it’s clear that some
effort has been put into this season to
make it better and to have the talent
improve the broadcast but the other
issue VI are just overwhelming at times
and I think it was shown perfectly in a
Twitter thread or X thread as we call it
now by the Twitter account at asteroid
4914 who compiled a bunch of different
things that Fox Sports has been doing
wrong this year I’m not going to go
through all of it but I’ll hit the
important points and I’ll put the link
down in the description below and the
first one is cutting away just from
everything it’s shown multiple times in
this thread but it’s something I think
that’s been noticed for years NASCAR and
fox just seems to miss more stuff
nowadays and whether it be a couple
crashes here or there or complete flips
it is getting
egregious as he
tweets fox has only caught 12 of the 40
cup crashes the rest were either missed
or they were on commercial for which is
fitting as fox seems to overwhelm the
broadcast with commercials now I don’t
necessarily think this is a 2024 problem
I think this is actually I’d say a 2012
problem when they sign this deal and
vastly overpaid for NASCAR production
and I think that if they can improve
anything in the new broadcasting deal is
to make sure in whatever way whether
it’s more cameras whether it’s less
commercials whether it’s having
everybody at the track which seems to be
something that many broadcast ERS are
against nowadays you need to find ways
to catch more of the production I get
that this isn’t like football or
baseball or basketball those Sports have
the luxury of their broadcast have been
figured out decades ago and now small
tweaks can be improvements instead of
vast wholesale changes racing is a
completely different Beast to coverage
it’s a bigger facility it’s a faster
paced event more often than not and it’s
something that I think fanswise has
changed more than any other sport in the
world and that kind of leads to the next
bit here the cartoons it’s an overall
Fox thing I’ve talked about this for
years and so have so many others so I’m
I’m not going to harp on this all day
long I don’t think it’s going to change
the NFL shows when Fox changes things
that’s pretty much their new start to
the new sports year so we basically have
to wait till September to find out if
the cartoons are staying for 2025 I
would hope with a new deal just like
they did in 2007 they changed up the
graphics package a little bit and maybe
eliminate it but as long as the NFL has
it which I think actually fits way
better with them you’re not going to see
this go away anytime soon also graphics
and Stat mess ups listen this is
probably really rich for a YouTuber like
me to say especially my muck UPS in the
past but the previous Martinsville
winners being the latest as well as a
998th gear is just inexcusable for a
NASCAR broadcast it’s something that I
can simply look up in a minute on
probably five or six different sites
that have NASCAR results when it comes
to well the NASCAR results and I can
remember a lot of them by memory that’s
just how I am as a Nascar fan and I
guarantee you there are millions of
other NASCAR fans just like that a 98th
gear I get it might be a glitch or
something but come on guys this stuff
again small but big at the same time
something else is big is how the cars
look on screen because Fox zooms the
hell in so much it’s been done for years
and while they say the same camera crews
are used for NBC and Fox’s Productions
it doesn’t seem like it which makes me
think it might be a directing problem as
many have pointed out in the past you
got to zoom out I mean at times I’m
pretty sure I can see the atoms on the
cars see for me many of these things
though are small things things that
might have irritated us if they were
seen just in a vacuum but they add up
for instance if the cartoons were the
only thing that NASCAR fans really had a
problem with or the biggest problem we
had with NASCAR and fox I don’t think it
get viscer overreaction but when it all
adds up with other small things it gets
heavily scrutinized and it’s a much
bigger problem now why is this well I
want to end off with a tweet in 2020
from Ray Dunlap a former Fox Sports
employee when it came to truck series
broadcast and he said this heading into
the season Fox bosses in a cubicle in La
have made hundreds of bad decisions over
the years they massively overpaid for
NASCAR and massively overspent on
frivolous production huge budget cuts
will be very evident this season I feel
bad for my my announcer friends and
loyal viewers and we’ve seen it since
between Fox NBC Turner Discovery and
Prime Nascar has a $7.7 billion deal on
the horizon for the next s Years
starting next season and I don’t see
anything really changing as fox has put
even more of their races on basic cable
unfortunately I don’t have a solution
that seems realistic at this time if
it’s up to me fix all the production
issues and everything else they have but
if there’s people running it or people
that are paying for it that don’t want
to fix those issues or don’t think
there’s an issue to begin with well then
we’re basically handcuffed to this for
the next seven years and in no way do I
want this to be seen as an allout attack
on Fox this is something from a fan who
desperately wants it to get better
because I grew up loving the fox portion
of the year I loved all of the NASCAR
production portions of the year for the
most part through 2006 I get that they
were criticized at the time but I really
liked them and it helped me get into the
sport and seeing it fall from grace so
badly since then makes me sad I want to
see the sport and the broadcast in turn
improve so with that I want to pass it
on to you what would you do to fix Fox
let me know down in the comments below
and maybe someone there will see it

What would you want for NASCAR on FOX to improve?
1st:Id record DW saying Boogity Boogity Boogity, Lets go Racing boys! Play that at every race at the start!
The rest we can work on
It’s the car and the short tracks!
This is a repost of my response to a red3n Kenny Wallace video.
===================
"My NASCAR response to Kenny Wallace 3/23/24
Broadcast coverage has degraded.
Camera work fails to follow the action as well as it used to. Snapping to the start finish line is jarring. Following the racers as the enter Turn 3, through Turn 4 and shows the top 10 is long gone.
Graphics are clunky and incorrect. Example: Bristol pit stop showed everyone taking 4 tires before stops are done. Blaney Stall 1 took only 2. Others only took .
We used to always have the Top 10 Leaderboard with the next 10 rotate through steadily. Now, the Top 20 are typically shown endlessly. I like to keep track of who is working their way through the field.
Skipping the lower qualifying drivers through pre-race discussion is a disservice to them. Telling us that we can simply read the drivers names scroll across the bottom… I find disgusting.
Having a caution during a commercial break happens. Not showing what brought it out is a disservice to us who schedule time to watch the broadcast
It… feels… appears… that the announcers are not broadcasting from the track but by studio monitors. I get a sense of laziness from Fox.
Oh, why am I talking about the broadcast and not attending the race? We were MIS season ticket holders. Getting to the track and parked used to be smooth. Last year was by far the worst in… 20?… years. Not worth the trouble.
I have been following NASCAR since Lee's boy was drawing attention. I had been preparing to enjoy watching the racecs from my home in my elder years since watching from the track was going to be a personal health issue. I work part time during the weekend and was making time to watch the broadcast.
No longer. I return to work and simply catch the highlights and interviews later.
There may come a time when I will not even bother with that.
Thanks for listening."

I will be sharing your video.
just gonna say it, NASCAR on FOX went to hell the moment they got rid of Digger…
I’ll tell you what you could do to fix this channel please stop playing this gay song at the end of your videos!
How generous of you to share your expertise in sports broadcasting. I have no doubt that after this YouTube feature all of the networks will be flocking to you for your know how in in every aspect of their business. # Hamlin is this you?
I hate that left vertical bar, why would you restrict the field of vision? What happened to the horizontal upper bar?
More Larry Mac and better camera work, is what I want.
I think the issue of missing the accidents comes down to the mentality of the production team and what they’re trying to catch live. Here’s why:
The amount of tempers flaring, intentional crashes, arguments, and fights has gone up dramatically in the past 7 years. Fox knows that’s what people like to see, they like that excitement so if they catch as much of that as possible it should boost ratings. You can tell they’re looking for battles for position all the time hoping one will not turn out well. When you focus on that too much, you start to miss other things that happen. To put it another way, it’s as if you were watching football, the broadcast focuses on the tackles so much hoping that someone will get punched or horse collared that they miss where the ball is thrown. That’s what it feels like.
It's being produced and directed by people who have no ambition besides punching the timeclock.
As far as the camera work , they need a new production manager 😮
Man I'm sorry but us nascar fans literally cry and complain about everything….its getting old…
It is absolutely perfect the way it is.
As an f1 fan, i loved watching the daytona 500 and the few road courses they race on, but there's way too many commercials.
I havent watched nascar in a long ass time, but did thet get rid of the side by side commercial and race like Indycar does?
And you think the CW will do better in the next few years??
Casual NASCAR fan here, primarily WEC and Supercars. I partially disagree about tight shots, when applied correctly it can give great TV perspective on a cars behavior, giving insight into differences in comparative set-ups. That's the thing, broadcasters need to experiment with the how to apply them with ovals (and with any luck listen to feedback and criticism). On road courses the formula is usually the same: low angle, fixed or limited fov, set up pointed at the apex or a kerb or on the exit. Ovals could definitely present issues. I also think the super slow-motion shots they do need to be applied to more that just wrecks or outstanding moments, they can also be applied to the "mundane" parts of racing, like a tight shot of the leader nearing the end of a tire stint and comparing how well their tires are hanging on or falling off. Or tight, low, fixed, and super slow-mos of cars exiting 2 at Darlington (not sure if they do that already, if so, that's proper application).
Its entertainment as a whole. Trying to improve inst encouraged, finding a formula to stick to that works is.
Try watching the world TV feed and then you have something to complain about.
Question. Is the ad breaks just the Australian version? Or is it the broadcast itself. Coz down under we get up so early to watch SVG and have a commercial break every 10 laps. At COTA, we had 2 laps and a then an 8 minute break (I timed it because it was so regular)
Let's give them some credit, they only kept DW around for 20 years or so. He was the worst.
Using 70% of the screen to show a stupid graphic with less than 15 laps to go at a short track is annoying.
I think that was Bristol…but I can't remember.
NASCAR as an entire industry is just dying a rapid death due to incompetence on all level around the sport. It’s sad to see. But I can’t see nascar being around 10 years from now. They barely have any viewers left. The sport died about 10 years ago to most of us, and the nextgen car is just a nail in the coffin. They had a really good run though.
Fit more commercials in stage breaks, get more in during long runs, and just overall get more consistency in the booth
The "cartoons" were trying to runway with the whole comic book franchise blow up — like 5 years ago. Unfortunately the marketing brass at NASCAR is trying to be very West coast minded, even to the detriment of the overall quality of the package. Not having crispy real photos of the driver just takes away from the legitimacy of it.
It’s so bad now that i actually miss Digger!
So why is my local Fox station no longer carrying NASCAR? Even if it is not as good as it can be it is better than no NASCAR! All I have now is stupid soccer! All you babies stop crying like the NAACP and get NASCAR back!
No offense but none of those things are even an issue worth mentioning if those things bother you your looking at the wrong things I’ve never even noticed most of that but I race short track myself and irace a lot. so since I race myself I know to watch the things that actually matter.
The coverage is terrible, but to single out fox is sick, nbc at least as bad, for both the #1 priority is to make sure we have a 5 hour long toyota ad, that is the main reason the coverage is so bad, toyota has control and they're killing nascar, they are all paid well to make sure it's all things toyota, while if not for Chevy, nascar would not exist, such as all cars are using GM engine technology.
Fox is so bad with commercial breaks it's actually unwatchable. I don't even watch on TV, I find someone streaming it without commercials and it's so much better.
Cant forget the good old ghost car being 2 tenths behind at the line, yet the on track car ends up 5 tenths behind. They’ll be in the green by .1 at the line then be in the red .210
I would find a way to develop a camera rail system on the infield or around the track where you have 3 0r 4 cameras above the track that follow the action around the track and would be able to capture the crashes etc. because the camera cuts are very jarring and we need smoother coverage of the race.
Fox is a Bubba Wallace show.
Gus Johnson on the call would be incredible, remember David Croft in F1 started as a soccer commentator so I don’t think it’s a ridiculous idea, plus Gus does college sports so he would be free after college basketball is done
It's so bad. Missing action consistently. And I love the split screen commercials under yellow.
You want to see a good race, buy a ticket. FOX has never had it right. ESPN was close to having it right. I am not talking about The Cheerleaders in the booth but Ned, Benny and Bob were the best in the booth. When I sat in the stands I always witness a great race and when I rewatched it on Youtube I couldn't believe how much FOX/NBC missed. It's fixable but not with the clowns they have now. FOX needs retired racers running the cameras, they know when things/excitement is gonna happen. Incar camera and Zooming in should never be done before 10 green flag laps in a run. There is a boatload more. Call me FOX if you want your rating to skyrocket.
Not again… 😂
For all we know, NASCAR allows Hendrick Motorsports to use 98 gears.
Remember when we had BP, Bestwick and Dallenbach? That's when Nascar had peak announcing, I know it wasn't fox but they were the best.
It seems like they go to a commercial every 5 laps or 5 minutes depending upon the size of the track.
I remember back in the 80s and 90s that whoever was broadcasting the race would quickly come back from a commercial if a wreck occurred. After maybe showing a couple of replays, then they would go back to the commercials.
Better be quiet or Mike Joy will talk down to you about your criticism. I don't care how 'energized' he is, he should've been out after the 'small words' rant.
