The fishing for stripers to about 30 inches continued on the western end of the island and around the city. Soft plastics in the 4-inch range were a hot item for them, but a good bulk of the action came from swimming plugs as well. White perch were reported from the creeks again along the central South Shore, and the lakes gave freshwater anglers another shot at stocked trout, along with some largemouths and pickerel towards the eastern end. Keep in mind that the season opens on April 1st and will run through the end of the month. Several headboats are planning to target them in the coming week.
