0:00 Phil: Sh*tty vs Good ball strikers

0:45 Ball Striking Position
1:05 Test your wrist rotation at release
1:24 Hands in front benefits
1:38 Striking at release point (bad)
1:56 Finding square with hands in front vs release
2:35 Phil’s additional reasons
All shitty ball Strikers will start with their hands back all good ones will will start here you at least have a chance you’re set up for Success here you’re set up for failure like that so hey don’t blame me blame Phil he said it not
Me but since he said it we’re going to talk about it what he means is that to make a proper ball strike your hands have to be in front every single Pro does it check this out here’s Rory here’s Ty here’s Rah here’s Jason day here’s everybody you can think of
That you consider a great ball Striker doing the exact same thing so the main takeaway that Phil is trying to impress upon people is that this is not the ball striking position this capital Y it is not the ball striking position the ball striking position is with your hands in
Front and there is a couple reasons why and we’re going to go with those right now first take your hands and do this now rotate them how easy do they rotate now I want you to put your hands slightly forward and press your hands backwards and rotate them how much do they
Rotate maybe 10% of what they can rotate while extended you see when the hands are in front on a golf swing the golf club head doesn’t rotate very much it doesn’t actually rotate until the release at the release point the hands turn over many many golfers mostly amateurs strike the
Ball and they strike it at their release point which means that their hands are starting to turn over if they don’t turn enough it’s going right and if they turn too much it’s going left but when you build your impact position with your hands in front of the ball the club head
Comes through more squarely we can demonstrate this here this is my turnover Point pointed right at you and this is what the club does when my hands are in front so no matter how much I my wrist if my hands are in front the head comes through square if I my wrist
And do something else I have no idea if I can close this club exactly square and neither do you but if I stop here with my hands in front I can guarantee you that the club is square every single time average ball Strikers or guy like
You won’t find a good ball Striker who does not set up with a straight line arm and club like you you can return to that through the swing swinging at 100 miles hour whatever and feel go back to square you start here there’s this looseness if
You start here you can’t go back to a certain point in the back swing stop and go forward if you start in a straight line you can take it back here and you’re in a position to go forward you can take it back and at any point stop
And go forward you start with your hands back you go to any point you have to wait for the club to downclock and so forth so all shitty ball Strikers will start with their hands back all good ones will will start here you at least have a chance you’re set up for Success
Here you’re set up for failure like that so if you won’t listen to me maybe you’ll listen to Phil ultimately this whole video could have been shortened down to just a couple words press and send thanks for watching and

Great explanation Mike… I've been working with the forward press since you mentioned it in your video. Never thought about how it limits wrist and unwanted hand movement which causes many of our problems during the swing. Thanks for sharing.
Keep the videos coming Mike!
can you explain how this translates with a driver? the wrist setup at strike with the driver is not really looking to compress with the driver when I think about it and more to swing upwards at full lead arm extension and the club almost like a head on a rope rather than with shaft tilt looking to compress the ball with irons
It's true guys. I'm a shi$%y ball striker and I set up with my hands behind.
