How’s it going everybody good how’s it going should have people joining right now amazing we’re already up to uh 83 people popular man yeah both are both are Terry rolls awesome so what I’m gonna do I’m gonna go through a little live demo of the app uh just this new feature that we
Came out with today called our so see that I’m sharing my screen right now and if I just hit the plus sign you’ll be able to see that there’s this monitor mode what this is going to allow me to do I can record a swing for
Myself I could also do this for my students and this is essentially going to turn your phone into a little like launch monitor experience where you can be completely handsfree you’ll make a swing and it’ll track that swing and you’ll be able to get the data shortly
After you’re going to need a tripod for this you’re going to use the face on camera and it’ll tell you exact your right I’m just going to adjust the brightness here no player detected move into the camera frame it’s going to talk to you player detected swing when
Ready and once it detects you you can make that Swing Swing detected from there it’s going to replay the swing and then it’s going to analyze and give us a couple numbers to look at here so you can see here player detected move into the camera frame I’m between
15 and 23 degrees move to your right I could go ahead and just hit another one move to your right player detected swing when Ready swing detected so it’ll analyze another one so completely handsfree really easy to use it’s going to be a great feedback tool for our students in the lesson it’s also going to be an amazing tool for our players move to your right when they’re off on their own
Practicing at the range so just wanted to show to your right it came out today so make sure that you play around with it and move to your right all right I’m gonna hand it over to Mike and Terry they don’t need any introductions they’re going to be
Talking today a little bit to us on how to use Sports box addressing uh the path being able to make sure that we’re you know really utilizing it to the best ability so Terry Mike I’m going to hand it off to you guys thanks Ryan thanks Ryan that uh that looks really
Cool every day you have something new for us Ryan it is pretty cool I’ve been messing around with it today I used it in a lesson today and it was amazing yeah it’s uh it’s nice to have uh things that uh replace words because communication is a big uh limiting
Factor of our ability to teach absolutely are we uh are we on your screen there or you still got Sports box uh I should have taking it off so you should be able to share your screen you should be good to go yeah we’ll just talk for a little bit first so
Uh so we’re going to talk about the second part of a three-part series that we’re doing about Dynamic matchups and you know sort of explain how you know Mike and I see a golf swing like a little bit like a math puzzle so every single variable on the golf swing
You know has some effect on the face and positive negativ right positive negative on a on path and then positive positive negative on attack angle and we have to understand those you know how to sort of twist those dials in order that you know someone can move with energy and in the right
Direction so you want to talk about how you sort of think about that mik in terms of matchups no go ahead okay so uh Mike’s just coming off slow so I forced him uh not coming off it I still got it forcing forcing him to work today um so yeah so
When we uh when we look at a golfer um you know a lot of people they’ll start a lesson looking at the launch monitor numbers which for us is um you know very much the outcome we’re always looking at how we assess somebody and work out what
Movements they are you know able to do most dynamically and most consistently and then we start building our um you know our philosophy around or or our mechanics around what sort of influences their body has on on on the golf shot now obviously for them to hit
A straight shot just the same as everybody else we need a you know zero face and zero path and the correct attack angle for that shot um but we we start earlier in the sort of cause and effect chain and according to the way someone moves they have uh you know potentially
Got if if we assume they aim straight they have a net left or a net right swing so you know humans are not railway lines and if I were to pick out two things that made people worse over the last 30 years one would be the railway
Lines correct stand on it so everything has to be square and swing down it be another one and the other one might be attack angle um you know we don’t believe that every single person given a square stance should be hitting up on it some people hit down on it some people
Up on it but the key is knowing who it is that does which one so in terms of uh this session we’re calling it path shifters now obviously we understand path is a three-dimensional number which includes swing plane uh swing Direction and attack angle so we’re going to call it path
Shifters but really what we’re mainly talking about here is is the swing Direction component so if you want to think about that as sort of Ben Hogan’s pain of glass um you know where’s the Baseline pointing you know basically from sort of way side to way side so that’s really the component we’re
Talking about here and we’re going to talk about different variables and how they uh you know how we can twist the dial up or down so we look at it like this we have openers and closers that we talked about last time path shifters and steepers and shallows obviously hard has
Um talked about um in the past and we’re always working out okay what series of path relationships do we need to line up that we can add energy to the system so that’s where the dynamic matchups comes in um you know there’s two sort of ways
To look at it we got it from our friend Billy it’s called offense and defense so can we add energy with this matchup or are we taking energy away and that’s where the dynamic sort of piece comes to it so that sort of sets us up to say
Okay we’re looking at positively we’re looking at things that add energy to the system and you know generally make the golf swing less effortful and you know how do they affect path so obviously the biggest one is aim right so where we aim is the biggest effect um
I’m going to talk a little bit about how that works with sports box um you know Sports box doesn’t know where the target is but it knows where you are and fail connect correct if I’m wrong but the zero line is basically the the ankle alignment and so you know which is kind
Of interesting there’s two different ways to look at this because I’ll tell a story about a study that we were doing so Phil and I were in uh uh Sunridge Canyon in Arizona doing a study um with the amm system which measures relative to the Target line and I wanted to find out
How you know what what 3D metrics come out of uh somebody intentionally curving it so we have pretty good players they’d hit uh 10 big fades 10 big draws and 10 whatever the stock shot was and then we measure you know Sports box amm everything to find out what were the
Variables that most closely linked to the path and this was sort of the Genesis of this presentation and at that time you know we we’d worked out how to measure the grip so obviously a curve you know an intentional curve has some amount of path and some amount of
Face so we worked out how to to measure the the grip Phil had worked it out following our discussions thank you Phil and we also were able to measure the stance line and a line between the ankles and those were relative um you know sorry that was relative to the Target
Line so initially uh the first result was oh my God look at the difference in the turn of somebody that has you know a fade in a draw but the difference was the turn relative to the Target line so because the person stood 10 degre open
It seemed as if the turn was 10 degrees less but it wasn’t but interestingly we knew that because Sports box is not measuring to the Target line it was measuring to the person and and so purely looking at the person we were able to see the true number which was
Basically the same so there was no difference in the the back swing turn numbers for a fade in a draw so that was an interesting study and it it went to show that those players 10 players hit 10 shots um um were using stance alignment primarily
To shift their path and a lot of the sort of theories that you know I had weren’t entirely true so a lot of the things I thought would change actually stay consistent um so the face toand relationship which uh maybe after another five years people will adopt
That one Phil um is the grip so people would you know open the face in their hands or weaken their grip it’s the same thing and then aim left with a stance to hit a fade and you know they’d close the face in their hands or they’d strengthen a
Grip and aim right for a draw so it was actually a very unexciting result but you know it’s very simple um so interestingly you could have someone like Jack Nicholas who said you know I move my trail hand over for a fade which effectively is opening the face but
Respecting his b mechanics right so he can still you know swing down and left and then he would aim right and close the face uh you know but keep his hand in the same place for the for the draw which you know the way we understand the
Way the Body Works relative to your Trail hen grip is is actually like a really really genius solution that you know now that we understand hand hand to face we understand so relatively unexciting but we’re going to talk about some other things just that’s just a reference to say that you know Sports
Box and amm measure slightly different and so therefore you know we saw turn numbers different but they weren’t really different hit rotation speed was a little bit different um for fade it was slightly faster rotation and for the draw the Sha rotated a little bit faster obviously so
Pretty pretty small differences to be honest um so that was It was kind of interesting and it really goes to show that you know people swing their swing so Mike so aim is the first one um as everybody knows Mike and I very well known for talking about the grip but I
Don’t think people realize you know how many pieces are involved when we say grip we’re not just talking about you know the orientation of hand to face because the about the elbow talking about the arm shoulders so we’ve got uh some measurable uh things that we can look at
That are affected by the grip that therefore affect the path you know if you put your hand out like this and turn your hand down so I’m going to weaken my TR hand grip my elbow moves out pops out a little bit right so now but what did
The shoulders did so that also opens my shoulders so my shoulders are now more open to my pelvis and it also reduces my side Bend correct right so we got a whole adaptation of the upper body in response to having this grp um the handle will be
Slightly lower so you’ve got a Down the Line shaft plane number on on Sports box and it also has less um sha lean so we also have a sharlean number on Sports box there’s a lot of things just in the setup position that are relevant you know to somebody adopting a different
Group goes this way goes the opposite right so somebody so it’s funny because uh I often name things and Mike I already had a name for that like 200 years ago so I said uh you know you could be a k or a t right so if you’re a
A weaker grip player so you’re going to have a slightly more open chest but you’re going to have less side Bend at address so if you look at the range of side Bend um I think it goes I haven’t got on the top of my head but somewhere
Between 11 and 18 degrees so the people that are 11 are going to be more likely path left players and we talk about that you know more like swing Direction left from their aim we’re going to come on to even though that somebody is predisposed to swing more to the left we
Can adapt their setup but you know a grip the grip has a hug huge bar has a huge influence on that yeah So eventually we deliver the right deliver the club with a in the end with a wrist right so so again so some of those
Things we can measure so a k or a t basically would mean if I were to set up with a stronger grip so I’m going to put my elbow more under more in tuck it in it’s kind of epidemic these days I’m going to end up with more side Bend
Lower uh open chest to pelvis I think I think we should probably give that a good name so that we can put that into um Sports box as a as a relationship like X Factor so it’s kind of set up xfactor and it really is a big influence
On on swing Direction um you know Phil we have a group discussed the relationship between swing Direction and um and and and variables of the golf swing and that that was one of the things that came up as a higher correlation and the other one was sway
Out which I’m going to come on to so so set up for for us means you know the grip so the body is contributing to the to the direction of the go Swing Swing Direction attack angle but so is the the action of the hands and the
Arms so you know if you again you look on Sports box down the line somebody with a stronger grip is going to have a slightly higher uh you know shaft at address so if you and somebody with it right is going to have a l and so you
Know when you forward you look forward into the down swing you know lead AR is going to be a little bit more off the body because this elbow has to come more in front of the hip Trail AR’s more connected lead ARS off the body so that that then enables us to
Have space for this to move into in the down swing so stronger or undergrip golfers are going to have slightly higher shaft plane at address and so that all is like feeding into you know slightly more uh rightward net swing Direction um some of the players that
Would be like that you know Dustin johnsonn R Zack Johnson uh sander chaule you know um JT Le trino Justin Thomas Adam Scott very subtle um yeah so there’s plenty we’re gonna have a look at some some swings in a second here John Ram right so let’s maybe look at
Some swings I’ll share the screen here maybe take a look at some of the uh setup variables go okay so oh Mr average here so we got um Tiger Woods here of course so when we talk about sway Gap uh there’s really uh setup top of the back swing
Transition through impact there’s really four sway Gap areas that we look at so we can see here you know Tiger’s slightly higher than average sway Gap at address um you know 2.7 is on the higher side we know that you know tiger likes
To hit it high so I I think maybe he was was trying to hit a high sharp but that is going to have a right path um effect so that’s more of what we would call a k let’s see how my drawing skills are live here so the K would be something like
You know this is straight and then you know he’s got sort of a K in this way so reverse K I think people people call it so no one’s going to be buying that um we go oops yes sorry live uh live drawing skills okay
So we can see just a little bit more than average so he pivots around his you know SW G and this is I haven’t sort of set this in stone yet but it seems like um you know people are sort of keeping their sway G to the top somebody who’s
Set up more to the right top of the back swing their upper body is a little bit more behind the ball and those are two sway gaps um so this for me would still be you know this was all a slight right path right swing Direction sway Gap this is a really
Elite move now um as he moves through the ball or through transition rather watch the sway Gap number it’s going to stay about the same so pretty close to zero until he gets to about you know Club vertical which um Phil and I talk about Phil named it we talk about so many
Important things happening around here um it’s pretty close to Peak vertical force on the Lead Foot it’s Peak uh rotation speed of the pelvis there’s many different great things happening here one of the things that happens as those two things so as he starts really pushing it his hardest uh the pelvis is
Its lowest probably just about here so as as he starts pushing the Gap is actually going to increase so the sway Gap is increasing so that would be uh a dynamic sway Gap you know that would be a matchup for you know a positive matchup let’s say where you
Know there are other golfers who potentially have a mismatch grip or whatever and for us grip controls uh you know when the face squares up and so if you have a a mismatch grip and the face is closing too early a lot of people hang back right and so we’ll we’ll have
A look at somebody here so so s g just to give you an idea there is something impa address you know generally and again jury is still out but I’m seeing a lot of people have it about the same at the top of the back swing so that’s why
You know if you’re a stronger at golfer you want to make sure you got some some right side Bend here which is a slight combination of pelvis um towards the target uper body away if you’re a weaker golfer you know a little bit less than negative -2.7 would be good now to the
Top we’re going to keep it through transition position we’re going to be so tiger through this phase was really good at pushing with his right leg so he kept his Gap and then as he reached you know Peak hip rotation speed lowest pelvis point then he would be
Pushing back and we see his upper body pulling back on the club so Club probably is weighing you know upwards of 150 pounds at this point so it’s pulling on him he’s pulling back on it and in order to hit the center of The
Sweet Spot you know he has to he has to push really hard to to resist that so that’s tiger she’s done a great job can I jump in and quickly mention that we had a question on what sway Gap is and since you’ve got 112 people out there I
Guarantee there’s a lot of people that don’t know what s Gap actually so is a very simple number it is the difference between the sway number of the pelvis and the thorax on Sports box we zero out um sway address so when the when the club starts
To move you can see the green zero so that means that is the moment in the swing when when the club starts moving so his upper body as a net I haven’t got it on there is 2.8 inches to the trail side so it’s a negative number har I
Don’t think we do we fixed that so that we didn’t zero it out at at the pelvis way oh I’m sorry the pelvis s yeah but the S Gap no I apologize no no no no that’s good this is great Phil this is perfect so -2.8 means that he’s he’s
Tilted somewhat right of his his so the way I explain it is if you’re uh if you had a a piece of string coming down from your shirt buttons to your uh zipper here’s going to angle to the right you if it’s hanging down to the trail side
That’s going to be a negative number and if it’s hanging down to the lead side it’s going to be a positive number and so we can see pretty clearly that he’s tilted to the right we know what that means means it means it’s so the center
Of his chest relative to the center of his pelvis uh you know from the front on view is 2.8 inches different at that point so yes thanks Phil that is excellent to have that addressed because now I’m starting to see top of the back swing 3.2 so for Mike and I you know
That would suggest to us that that would be you know as a single variable a a rightwood um right swing right swing Direction variable so let’s look at somebody else oh Russell Hy’s got a great go see oh here’s a great swing ludig aerg thanks to his coach he
Sent me this swing the other day H Lon so we can see address uh 2.5 got decent amount of lean address uh top of the back swing he’s actually closed the Gap so that’s kind of what I would expect so for us he would have um a slightly you know more on top
Grip than zero path left slightly more of a puff left move so through his back swing he’s reentered to a spot which is actually slightly more stacked um which actually in in honesty I would say he probably should start a little bit more there but you know what am I to say he’s
The the next coming so um so as he moves through transition similar idea he’s going to stay pretty much uh the same number so two 2.1 so he’s just moved 0.2 inches right around here so where the left arm is just before parallel is where we see the
Pelvis at its lowest and then we’re going to start to see the lead leg pushing and the Gap is increasing so here’s an interesting one in terms of SW got just in terms of um you know his lower body has moved a decent amount to the right we’d call him a rear
Post and his um you know so he’d be very stacked right so he’d be slightly more of a left path type player as a net um that’s it so that’s that’s SW got um I already covered that you know somewhat in previous events so that has a big
Effect and um you know just wanted to add that there’s different moments are we back on the screen there Phil I can’t see anything all I got is uh yes you are anyway um yeah so that would be uh you know four four points in the
Swing that are relative so we’ve got to address you know how the body Stacks up um at uh uh at the top how the person moves through transition so undynamic sway Mike so we would have somebody mismatch maybe at address um I don’t know let’s say well let’s talk about some of the
Other things let’s talk about range of motion it’s a big deal so you know Phil has been measuring dynamic range of motion on amm and sports box for many years and you know as a general rule if we look at uh you know young golfers um
Where we see a lot more Mobility then the the the big stretches between the joints something like xfactor for example but xfactor every joint almost so high range of motion is going to be you know uh a path right variable right so what do you do with your kids when
They get a a big path right through their Mobility well you can open the stance up to get them to more down the line you can let them live with it which is actually which is actually good thing uh I mean uh because they’ll hit it
Farther and try to hit up on it I mean tiger went through face where he tried to hit up on it uh that’s what happened to uh Brooks kupka he changed his position on his grip so he could hit up on it uh uh a lot of times we get
People shifting their own path because they’re trying to do something that they’ve been told will help them hit it farther in reality it will help certain people hit it farther not everybody so some of the golfers who who would have a high range Mo motion just on the P or
Someone like Sergio or um actually Adam Scott Rory maroy so we’re going to see you know their arms lowering not necessarily you know shallowing the plane but the the hands will be deeper and lower and you know that makes it really important for the golfer to be
Able to you know push the club back out in front of them right because it’s it’s stretched all this distance behind them and the lower Body Action that Associates with that is is pushing up right so so so a lot of the young kids who are are very flexible tend to jump
Or extend their legs lift the pelvis um which is actually a good thing which gives them some ability to push the club steep stabilize it right so those two things really offset each other so you know if you’ve got somebody who’s extremely you know big range of motion opening The Stance but making
Sure that they’re they’re pushing up so the the legs are extending and the pelvis is lifting uh I think that’s you know that’s an interesting piece um you know and there’s phases in in in their development where they’re you know stronger with the lower body more mobile
With the upper body somebody who you know they they probably lack some strength in their upper body in order to to to close those gaps that have been opened so you know their pelvis is going to open up first that they probably got you know 70 80 degrees of xact through
Transition you need to have pretty strong core to be a to close that Gap uh and then their shoulder is going to stretch and then their wrist is going to stretch all those things uh really do have an effect and you know the people that if you teach a lot of Juniors
You’re probably very aware of what we’re talking about Mike teaches both ends of the spectrum he teaches some of the world’s best Juniors and at the other end of spectrum some of the world’s meatiest of Meatheads so um so we’ll see that you know when somebody doesn’t have uh a lot
Of range of motion then they don’t have the ability to to separate those segments you know through the transition and as a consequence you know they’re sort of chopping wood well they’re very stiff and they’re very body oriented so same thing same thing but reverse right we corre we we try and you
Know we close the stance we try to buy them flexibility and and motion uh where the others were trying to uh tighten them right and it and lessons are like this right that you’re um you’re trying to work out what the person wants you know how long have you got their
Attention for you know what’s their goals or the rest of it um people look at that and say that’s a a compensation can’t you you know make 10 swing changes toate the same thing but the whole thing is is that um everybody everything we do is a compensation someone all we’re
Trying to do is adjust so they can uh attack the goth almost dynamically and efficiently if they don’t have any uh flexibility then we add flexibility by uh closing the stance or moving them off the ball if they don’t have if they don’t have they have too much
Flexibility we’ll do the opposite we’ll open it up to tighten things up I mean everything we’re doing is to try to allow them to uh be more Dynamic and uh if you’re not blessed with you don’t say well you’re out of luck can’t do anything about it we we we’ve uh we work
On different uh metrics and help them to uh find one that works best for them yeah there’s it could be a combination of factors that you say well you know what uh the art of teting that’s your that’s right that’s your fade you’re hitting low Fades and that’s
Just the way it is or uh you know I really want to hit a draw like bads perfect example y so bads had some left path variables right when you tell the story about oh he right hand is very much on top uh he uh stacked a front
Poster everything he has wants the club to go to the left but he wants to hit draw so we had to create uh we dropped his right foot back to uh create a shallower allow p and a path uh right uh swing Direction and uh we uh
Got him set a little bit more behind it and uh as a result he uh he was able to hit his draws and stuff and we did it without hurting him and all we did was uh create what was missing I was look at it like uh you know the snow is melting
Melting on top of the mountain and the rivers coming down it it it it like a golf swing kind of wants to take the path to least resistance and adding rocks in the way because you know you have this philosophy doesn’t always make it flow more easily right and so in that
Case you know his his Club flow was a lot more effective which comes to my next Point really which is saying okay you have extremely mobile maybe weak people right that have a lot of path right maybe you have people that have you know short range emotion a lot of
Power they you know they’re chopping wood so those are like the opposite two ends of the spectrum I had both of them today uh well Teach as many lessons as you do you got a you got everything every day and then the the other thing that Mike just touched on there which is
Actually a really big deal is stiffness and stiffness is a contributing factor to range of motion in the same way right and so Mike and I uh you’ll see us doing a lot of flow drills and it was actually interesting to connect that story of bads to flow drills we do three four
Five swings in a row I had a I had a guy do a 100 in a row once that’s because you were bored with him he wasn’t it wasn’t Lo it wasn’t the the snow wasn’t melting it was it was an ice cap you know so we had to keep chipping away at
It so so the point being is if you get somebody to do four or five swings in a row you know it’s hard to be tight and do that right and you know so anyway so bads did his four or five swings in a row and said
It’s really funny you know when I do my three four five s in a drill my feet go like this during the drill right and so now he comes back and he goes you know my feet ended up exactly in the place where uh you put them where you put them
Through just loosening up the swing so I find that um you know the more closely you can get somebody set up to their style and you know there are things you know Mike and I obviously talk a different a lot about different styles of swings but there are also differences between handicap ranges
Generally right right and stiffness is one of the biggest ones um but that could be intentional stiffness you know you’re trying to restrict something uh it comes back to offense and defense you know instead of fixing the technique and allowing the the river to flow or the
The club to move freely um you know people are guiding it and blocking it and they’ve keep their arm on the body so there’s all sorts of tensions built into the into the system right which is very common thing that Mike and I come across so you know so when we go between
The handicap ranges I would say there are movement quality aspects related exactly to golf and you know we all know that when we’ve taught really good sports players from other sports they have these movement qualities that enable them to create separation in the body parts and and have you know sort of a
Fluid uh you know sequential movement um you know when I watch um you know really good baseball pitcher it’s unbelievable how you know the hand basically goes 100 miles an hour and you know it doesn’t look all that hard right but because they create the stretch and then shorten sequences that that makes
It look efficient now you know from a grip standpoint you know just quality grip right so I’ve been talking a lot about people gripping it in the Palm or the fingers you know can they use their wrist which is a big transfer of energy if it gets too stiff you know they’re
Going to come down too steep if they’re keeping their arms straight you know likelihood it’s probably going to come down too steep if they’re trying not to rotate the pelvis you know the hand path doesn’t go in so there’s there’s stiffness through intent you know well it’s funny because uh I had somebody
That I I taught 20 years ago and they were always over swinging and stuff like that and uh so we were doing everything we could to shorten the swing uh now they’ve lost saw this flexibility he said you know were you shorten it anything you can add back to it I have a
Really good friend of mine you know he um he has the shortest swing in history and uh uh so he hurt his back and uh it’s probably about maybe gets the left arm parallel and uh so he hurt his back and he went to the physiotherapist he
Says okay we’re gonna have to talk about maybe you know giving you a a half swing he’s funny he’s a funny guy he goes well how are we going to extend my swing to a half swing so you know we actually so there I would make sure you had some risk
Mobility elbow softness but all of those things actually help hand PA death which is a big uh contributing factor so you know allowing people to turn um you know especially for us when we look at the lower body type players like bads yeah let the left let the left heel come off
The ground knee collapse in uh just everything we can to increase uh rotation and according to their lower body style right so you got a rear post you know like said let the knee go across right front post needs more depth you know bigger hip turn allow the right
Leg to straighten or Clos stance or Clos The Stance both probably uh you know SOS golten needs rotation so like Mike Duffy says you want create rotation you have to create space so all of these things are helping this person to to gain you know time and
Space to to enable the hand path to go back so so that’s that so let’s see what we got on Sports BLX here real quick so I took some pictures uh of people’s ranges and I promise next time I’ll have some lpj we just uploaded a bunch of lpj swings
So see who we got here that’s a beautiful song um oh here it’s in my uh my thing here so we can see let’s see what we got here oops second okay there we go show the differences in Rory yeah I’m going to come on to that variable is’s some Rory
Differences so I’m going to talk about Pelvis I’m going to come on to these ones Sorry lost it maybe you can ask a question Ryan I’ve got it somewhere here all right I can just bring one up doesn’t matter um how to isi so one one question here Terry does a strong grip player in a k position require a certain ball position and stance width excellent question yes
That’s two questions ball position yes stance with no the yes so we we generally will move the ball uh you know about an inch further forward for a stronger stronger as single variable the grip will affect the ball position moving up and you know the uh stance width is a
Tool uh you know if you make a stance wider you make someone move more side to side so we have to equate that with the other variables in the golf swing so how do you decide stance with what’s your process well I start off with what I
Call a n with is neutral for the person and uh if I want to add uh lateral to it I wide if I want to add take lateral out I I narrow it uh if I want to buy them more turn I close it and if I want to
Reduce their turn I open it um I mean this flit flare uh if I want the the left leg to lock sooner I Square the left foot up more want the left leg to lock up later I I flare the left foot out more still struggling here hold on
One second uh let me get R some of these so we’re going to look at uh John ROM here so we can look at pelvis chest and X Factor so this would be a pretty good indicator of um you know spine Mobility let’s say and so we can see top of the
Back swing you know JN is 45 degrees which is definitely on the lower side I obviously it’s got a a low amount of rotation anyway so that would be um you know that would contribute to slightly more of a a fade path there’s a very strong grip golfer here just randomly
This is brenon steel so we can see let me see here add in some variables so sway so we can see let’s see here so click on there address a 2.7 sway G handle high and forward that’s a good matchup so he actually moves a little
Bit further away so my my theory is not perfect but I think he probably would need a little bit more s cap at add dress I mean he was the same as tiger and has a significantly stronger grp and then you know so through transition so let’s see what kind of X
Factor so he’s got a really pretty big X Factor I would say um but I’d say you know these guys are usually got some uh Elite rotation component through the hips or spine so that’s pretty common you know the driver for these guys and then his sway Gap is going to increase
Through the ball so that’s sort of I would use X Factor as a interesting variable so that would be 65 versus John Rams um uh 45 so you know even within the the best players there’s a big range difference and you have to know how to accommodate that um right we’re going to
Talk about grip and again like our Trail arm test so again for us we’re not just teaching grip we’re teaching you know body positions chest alignment handle position but now when we move into the back swing we’re also associating you know whether you’re a shoulder extender or arm Rotator Club Rotator right this
Would be an undergrip and this would be more recover grip the effect is you know if you put your hands out in front of you and just swing your arms to the right some people are going to do this which means you know this elbow is kind
Of in the way so the lead arm rotates out so the so as this person swings back their hands are more you know sort of in front of their left chest versus you know someone like Rory or Russell the swing I like a lot um they’re pulling their
Hands in more so their hand path is a little bit deeper and what’s interesting is how that then affects the you know the delivery of the the club you know talk a little bit about the path effect of those two Styles well the under grip
The elbow tuck so the club lays down and and it shallows it where the uh cover grip and elbow is actually steeping the shaft and uh path is going more left where the under is more to the right where the uh cover is going more to the
Left I mean anytime the elbow gets out it’s pushing down and left anytime the elbow gets in it’s pushing up and right so that comes all the way from the pivot though right so I’m gonna you know throw a discus for example I’m sort of going
To lean into it you know then pivot slightly differently my elbow’s going to be behind and I’m releasing effectively the head of the club but the disc is out in front of me versus somebody who you know planning on throwing skimming a stone where the hand is staying more
Under you know the side bending more elbows more in front lot more penetration this forces the head to go back and the arms extend that right so so when we’re talking about you know how this is all working it’s a whole body so people who are you know more on top and
The elbow pulls in the hands are deeper they’re also more stacked you know they have a smaller sway Gap at the top so the hands stay deeper like Rory where his elbow you know used to be a lot more behind his shirt seene or Sheffer or
Furic or yeah and then as a consequence the head of the club starts kicking out so I think of Sergio and around the corner so that release style is sort of deeper hands you know but the head of the club is is curving to the left earlier verus somebody who’s got more
Trail arm penetration in front of their body the head of the clubs a little bit more behind then that’s going to extend more out to out to the to the to the right to the right so you know the way that your Trail arm works in the back
Swing has a big effect on the depth but the depth is interesting because when we really measure swing directional path we measuring the head of the club it’s not just the hand path um and so as a consequence the you know have the clubs throwing around
The corner wanting to get you know to right field a little bit more I’m going to show one more interesting variable here I’ve been looking at in terms of another um Sports box metric yeah we Terry we do have a few questions too so in the end
If you can leave a little bit of time I’m G to uh I’m going to show one thing here Phil which is kind of cool so something you can uh look at in your players is the these numbers so take a look at um when the so this comes from
Me looking at amm grassville it was very interesting to see in the pelvis rotation graph where you know the pelvis side Bend went through zero you could also see the pelvis rotation either before or after that and that would show a pretty clear indication of the type of
Swing direction that that player has now for us with sports box that that’s not the end of the story but it does show dynamically what kind of motion that person has so for example Justin Thomas here his pelvis is closed three and a half degrees when his pelvis sideb gets
To zero Luke Donald slightly closed when his pelvis gets to zero Tommy Fleetwood significantly closed so these would be interestingly open with an iron these would be you know draw variables let’s say or right swing Direction variables um Hideki Matti is more open when his pelvis side man gets to zero so
Slightly more of a fade bias component it’s not the final story but it is pretty it’s pretty good uh oh this was uh one of the pictures I wanted to show address Rory you know his um one of his ball striking Peaks uh had a pretty open chest to
Pelvis relationship so 10 degrees difference there with a three-wood um this is uh Cory Connor’s stronger grip player who has only seven degrees difference with a driver so so there’s some you know canl you can see his Trail hand there is a Little Bit Stronger so what’s that five and a half degrees
Differ uh here we go so that that’s an interesting number um any final thoughts Mike if we want to let people uh ask some questions must ask answer some questions I think the final part is just sort of close the door or close the gap is uh SW
Out is making sure that you know for example when we did the you know the grip study we’d have people close the face and hit it straight and then open the face and hit it straight you know one of those is more easy than the other
One and so for example if I I have a pretty weak on Top Trail hand so if I go strong my face wants to close so my upper body gets left behind it never goes to the left so that would be an undynamic match I can play golf like
That but but you can’t play good golf exactly so I’m I’m having to really manage you know High CPUs of uh you know putting it together CPU so so those are the you know I don’t think it came across that much today but we really are
Big on making sure that people are you know using the matchups that you know add energy so that’s why you know for example closing the stance instead of hanging back is a is a much better way of going about it so that’s it fil yeah Ryan you want to handle
Questions or should I do yeah I got it for you all right so we got question from a coach here using tiger as an example would his sway Gap lesson with an iron vers the driver maybe closer to zero inches at a dress no I have his iron from that day
Also and it was uh it was about two two inches I actually think that’s tiny bit bigger you know maybe than he needed but um you know he’s taret you know question but someone said to me once you know if Tiger Wood is your model then
What do you do if Tiger Wood comes for a lesson so you know I would say in my opinion he probably is leaning back a little bit too much and in in the interest of um hitting it high which is what he wanted uh you know this is not the way
To do it because he probably drag the handle to move the bottom of the Swing further forward so it’s actually counterproductive andan kind of piggybacking off of that one how much does s yeah vary from Club to Club not a ton it’s more a product of the person to be honest I think
Um you know we saw I would say abber potentially have too much and then back into less uh Sheffer does the same thing I think he has a pretty large sway Gap a dress but then he has the most uh movement of his chest towards Target so he’s sort of
Fixing on the Fly I mean you know all these players have got adaptations um so you know I think there is a difference probably nature and nurture with the driver but generally speaking it is uh pretty consistent across the bag for most people cool all right let’s
See but you remember the two things I said have made people worse more the most is attack angle on railway lines so a lot of people are leaning too much to the right with a driver potentially more than they need to because we would prefer them to use pushing into the
Ground and a dynamic side Bend pulling back on the club through impact to be the source of Loft versus you know just staying behind the ball there is really no such thing as staying behind the ball because Phil has a 100% metric where all tall players that he’s measured their
Upper body and lower body moving positively towards the target through transition yeah another question here who are some professionals who are not flexible and what are they doing to improve their Dynamics a lot of them are on the senior tour that’s right what does that mean Dynamics I don’t know what that means
Um I mean I think I would say you know what you’re seeing out there are you know we would close this stance to give them you know more time and space um in the back swing you know things like allowing the left elbow to bend you know making sure that they they
Have permission to use their wrists right you know I I I need to make a social media post about this but like the lead hand uh grip for example if I were to have 20 degrees of extension at a dress then you know it’s going to
Flatten a little bit and extend back to the top of the back swing maybe 18 16 something in there so it’s about the same as where it started so all these guys that are you know flexing the left wrist like this they’re actually restricting range of motion and you know
This is is more range of motion um but it’s got uh epidemic proportion right now well you have one you have one or two players play really well in this position so everybody thinks that they need to be there so I would say I would definitely give people
Permission to to extend their wrist um back to where it started uh you know Flex the elbow close the stance you know if you take your pelvis and thorax even if you haven’t got a ton of X Factor you can still potentially you know straighten the trail knee you
Know move the lead knee lift the left heel to accommodate more rotation and then you add on to that some you know thickness of chest um you know my man Mike here suffering with flu so I’m doing all talking uh so Mike has always talked about like a JB Holmes type body
Where you know he turns his chest out the way early right creates R to give his arm space to to swing into so because he’s an under golfer and it allows him to get where I’m still I kind of think it was stiff who’s got the shorter swings these days R can’t get
Wrong we’re talking about Elite athletes yeah that’s right these guys aren’t stiff that’s right well I I think what you find is they usually have a super Power Joint you know they’ll have a you know extreme spine rotation or pelvis rotation or hip rotation whatever it is it’s they’ve got something somewhere or
Shoulder or sool all right another question here let’s go would lift shift the path more to the left for a right-handed player does an earlier this way yeah yeah because it has an effect on the on the quantity of sway so sway would be a big right path shifter where rotation and
Lift would be more left path um so the thing about it is throwing you know we take a really big step let’s say I don’t take a step and I throw bers on the ground I can use my step to tilt my throw angle higher and more out to the
Right obviously I don’t know anything about I’m English but actually correct uh but so the longer you sway for you know the more the pass is going to go to the right and that would be true of what we would call a rear post gol for somebody who moves more to the trail
Side it is a right path variable where somebody’s moving to the front early haven’t got a lot of lateral it’s more of a left PA and they have more lift so the combination of the lift you know lack of lateral and the lift uh definitely is going to create more of a
Left swing Direction so that’s why you know Mike said people people think uh we talk about front post somebody goes to the left side early that we’re saying you know they’re hitting down on it more because of their front post that’s not true they’re hitting down more because
They don’t have the shallower of the lateral pelvis rotation and if you combine that um you know with a a weaker grip like bads or Scotty Sheffer you know that’s why Scotty jumps it’s a gigantic shallower for him so it means he can throw the club you he he releases extreme
Early uh and creates room so that’s a big shallower for him all right another question here earlier you guys mentioned narrowing SL widening widening The Stance to get Peak vertical in the lead leg sooner I he lost you for a second it wasn’t narrowing and widening it was flaring and
Squaring okay if the left foot is flared more uh the leg locks up later the left foot is square the left leg leg locks up sooner so that Peak vertical will happen sooner perfect let’s see let’s do one more here well let’s talk about
Uh uh Peak vertical as one of the I have to come up with a name for these but things like chicken wing upper body hang back you know early release over the top they’re all things that occur because of other things happening before them so you know the late vertical or late
Pelvis lift you know can be a thing in its own right and you just fix it fine but it could be a product of something else right so somebody potentially is you know too steep or faces closed then they’re G to slide to try to open the
Face past the point where they can push and then the ver so I think you know you look at Peak vertical timing it’s very much a probably a linear relationship between the quality of the golfer and the and the time in and you know there’s a lot of undynamic matchups that go into
That um potentially to uh to cause that so we’re usually fixing things before we get to the you know the peak Peak vertical cool thank you for that Terry I’m just going to show one last thing inside the app since we did have a couple of UI changes these are some
Pretty cool features that you guys are going to like when it comes to the Avatar so I’m just going to share my screen here quickly so that everybody can see this so you’re going to see some improvements when it came to the Avatar here uh you can move the Avatar to any
Angle that you want now so if you just take one finger and kind of just move it side to side you have the that you could also zoom out if you just have your two fingers fingers on there you can zoom in zoom out you can also
Move the avatar on the screen so few more options when it comes to just moving the Avatar showing those different viewpoints to help communicate to a student as well as if you go to the visuals you’re going to see a few new visual here under the body angles so I
Have one for shaft plane turned on if we go and we look at this from down the line and you go and look at setup you can see that shaft plane if I go and pull up the other ones you can see there’s a shoulder plane and
Then also a vertical plane that was added as well super cool for you guys amazing well I appreciate you guys’ time Terry mike always great being able to learn from you guys I appreciate you you know sharing your guys’s knowledge and expertise with our coaches it’s always
Helpful for them to you know be able to learn how to use the app a little bit more apply this to their teaching so thank you guys so much for taking the time out of your guys’ busy schedule and sharing this great information with us you guys doing an incredible job of
Adding things for us to become better Teachers Day guys yeah fun again as usual thank you everybody for joining and uh we’ll have another webinar here in a couple weeks looking forward to it steepers and shallow us all right bye everybody let us know if you want more
Uh metrics or videos or whatever we can do what we can do better got it thank you have a everyone merry Christmas everybody yeah Merry Christmas
