On today’s video I’ve got a set of irons that I’ve been waiting patiently for for the last 3 months since they were leaked on some of the golf forums this is a brand that I admire so much because they offer not only incredible quality but the value that they offer is second to

None at least in this category of clubs they’ve created an iron that should be a step up from my favorite iron of last year and if you remember that it was the Wilson dino power for a game improvement Club that’s as good as it gets well this

Here in my hand is the forged model the Wilson dap power forged is it going to be just as long just as forgiving with a little better feel and control well we’re going to find out here at carolwood Country Club let me show you what these clubs look like first there

Is your look at the seven iron oh boy is it a beautiful looking thing down there you got the power holes that’s where Wilson has been cutting out slots at the bottom of their clubs moving weight around they’ve got so much weight here towards the toe and heel these things

Should be very very forgiving now if you look at the Top Line there it’s not as thick as the dino power and it’s not as thin as something like the p790 but not a lot of offset there and nice big face it’s a handsome looking package I’ve got

To say plenty of sole width down there and that is going to give you a little extra forgiveness especially on those low shots or in Tough Turf situations that thing is beautiful these are touted to be a player’s distance iron so first thing we got to talk about is distance

I’ve got my Garmin GPS to measure our shots here as well as some of the shot data to give you an idea of what this five iron can do big face it looks forgiving let’s see what happens here boy that is high in the air heading

Down the right side of the Fairway the estimated carry on my Garmin G80 is 188 Club head speed was 89 ball speed was 127 smash was 1.43 I’m going to hit this next one off the deck deck I would say actually hit that one a little low on the club face but talk

About a forgiving result again way up in the air estimated carry on that one was 175 my club head speed was 87 ball speed 121 the smash as you can see was down a little bit 1.39 like I said didn’t quite catch that one flush let’s hit one more

See if I can really get a hold of it like that that’s heading down the left side of the Fairway a little bigger draw on it cled speed was 86 ball speed 126 the smash is 1.47 the estimated carry 185 let’s go find out where they finished one thing

Wilson continues to do right and this has been a theme for the last few years with their clubs is the sound and feel of these clubs is absolutely superb the Wilson Dina Powers themselves were great feeling irons but in this Forge package it takes it up a whole another level in

Terms of feel sound is just so good though with Wilson it’s got that classic crunchiness to it that I just absolutely love all right we’re heading up into the Fairway we got two balls that are right next to each other those first two we hit and we’ve got one over here as well

So all in all very consistent results but let me show you where we’re at just so you know with my five iron 185 is pretty much what I’m looking to do in terms of distance let’s see what we’ve got here though whoa this is considerably better considerably better

This is actually our second shot this is the one I hit off the deck and I hit it a little thin so that just tells you about the Forgiveness of these clubs that’s incredible this was actually my first one that was off the tea it was just slightly slightly right of that one

And you can see 210 but talk about consistency those two balls are within a couple of feet of each other now over here is the third one I’m literally walking parallel thought I caught this one pretty well also and as as you can see that’s incredible distance as well

205 so if we talk about a players distance Club this one literally blows away a p790 a titals t150 even a Muno 225 this is on a whole another level in terms of distance now I will say the flip side is those clubs do look a

Little bit more players like at a dress but of course that’s really a subjective thing because a lot of people want to look at something that looks more forgiving has a bigger face Maybe has a bigger Top Line so the question then becomes would I be willing to sacrifice

20 yards of distance for the looks of a club I don’t think I would honestly so distance incredible about 15 yards longer than my stock irons I got to say but will that come at the expense of stopping power that’s what I’m going to test here with the gap wedge we’ve

Got 120 yards let’s see what these things do once they hit the green wow that’s so high up in the air so that descent angle is definitely going to help us that one it seemed to roll out just a little bit I got to say rolled a little more than I expected

Let’s see the second one here nice compression on that shot again super high that one landed front of the green looked like it rolled down a little bit again there to the middle of the green potentially we’ll find out as we get up there it should be said that we’re going

To lose a little bit of stopping power here today in the Dew of the morning that one looked a little bit better that one landed middle of the green and seemed to check up nice let’s go check those shots and we’ll have a good idea of the stopping power of these

Dino Power forged in terms of Direction Peak height feel sound again extremely good extremely good and I hit three for three greens although that first one may have actually rolled off the back let’s find out nope it held over there so we have three balls on the Green let’s see

The pitch Marks here because that’s going to tell us a story from what I can tell looking at the trail here this is actually the pitch mark of that third shot all right and it rolled out a pretty good way I got to say at least 5

Yards of roll out 15 ft I would say there might been the second shot actually this was the third shot here’s the third shot itself again it rolled out a little bit I’d say 12T there okay and that that definitely had our best spin to it this is going to be our first

Shot again we got about 12 to 15 yards of roll out there Dewey morning for sure we did have a little wind with us but I would say that’s more roll out than I would like to see from a player’s iron so with these clubs you may be

Sacrificing a little bit of stopping power even though that angle of descent is really steep you’re sacrificing a little bit of stopping power in the name of distance now to be fair in this category of clubs things like the Muno 245s I tested that was also a little

Sticking point for me is is the stopping power is just not quite where a player’s iron would be but again decision you got to make for yourself all right we’ve got 166 yards I do think I can get there with a nine iron but we’re going to find

Out pin right basically in the middle of this green oh I caught that completely flush it sounds so good when you do that is so high I actually lost the ball in the air I’m fairly certain we’re on the green because the garment’s telling me 164 was the carry there clubit speed was

81 ball speed was 109 oh man hit that a little low on the club face not as good as that first strike again lost it in the sun looked good by eye coming off the face clubit speed was 80 ball speed 108 smash was 1.34 just like the other

Shot an estimated carry was 162 again I’m walking up to this green from the side and look at where they landed right next to each other that’s incredible now these had a little bit better stopping power and that’s nice to see too look at this this one only rolled

Out 2 ft much much better there with a nine iron this one rolled down I would say 3 and 1/2 ft and look at the birdie putts I would have had 8 ft for birdie I just can’t get over the fact that those were two completely different strikes one really

Low on the club face one dead in the middle I would say and they were within 2 feet three feet of each other the power hole technology there is absolutely something to it very forgiving these Wilson clubs just like the Dina Powers just like the D9 Forge

And the d9s before them so good on low M hits and Mish hits towards the toe you can see here where they’ve moved the weight and that’s exactly what they focused on for someone like me those exactly where my Mis hits are toe and low if you watch this show you know toe

And low is where I hit it a lot and these clubs these clubs forgive a multitude of sins and that was so much better in terms of spin so really really starting to impress me here with the dino power forged I got another test here for these clubs though we’re going

To look at workability can I move these balls left and right that’s what a player needs when you’ve got a really forgiving iron it’s very hard to move that ball control that trajectory and really shape your shot I’ve got the ball set up here at 185 I’m going to see if I

Can hit some fade shots here that goes against my normal draw that I generally hit as you’ve seen I’m going to see if I can work it left or right see how workable these clubs are probably a terrible hole to do this on too because

I have water on my right bunker on my left it’s really tight but we’ll also be testing control I guess good thing we’ve got a good ball sponsor in Legato in case any of these do go in the water that one had a little bit of movement to it though it’s just a

Tad short of the green but but we certainly got some left right swing that was actually surprising surprising to see shot two here yes nice tight little fade there and that one landed all right next to the other ball I’d say they’re going about

175 from what I can see let me try this one more time I’m going to try to hit it just a little higher this time with that fade that one finished in the bunker so in terms of workability pretty good pretty good it’s not going to blow you away I

Don’t think it’s going to be as good as a cavity back arm but that’s why Wilson Staff created the cavity back players iron so I think these clubs actually have a great balance of the Forgiveness which is Extreme and the workability which is ample one last thing I want to

Test here is how do these clubs do out of the rough now clubs that are a little bit thicker soulle like these guys sometimes they get a little hung up maybe they turn over let’s find out what they do though now to be fair the rough

Is not super high today but I’m giving myself as bad of a lie as I can find we got seven iron in hand 165 wind dead in our face did seem to get hung up just a little bit and I pushed that one right let’s try it again and trying to find a

Bad lie with the a lot of turf behind the ball shot to that was better that actually carried to the green little lower trajectory though for sure third shot not bad probably going to hit the right side of the green maybe the right maybe the right Fringe so yeah

Maybe a little bit of a in the armor in these clubs again just that thicker so is not going to move through the rough quite as good as some other clubs but again decision you got to make can you sacrifice that for the distance the feel the Forgiveness that you’re

Getting out of these clubs all right par five here and we’re going to play this irons only so I’m going to hit five iron off the tea cuz it’s the lowest iron I have I don’t know if I mentioned it but I have a half set here today 579 gap

Wedge that’s what Wilson Staff provided so that’s what we’re using to test and we’ve got about a 520 yd par five can I make par or better iron only let’s find out all right five iron in hand here oh that’s a very good one Club head speed 87 ball speed 128 smash

1.46 estimated carry 189 let’s see where it finished I just can’t get over how easy it is to hit this five iron and how high it goes that is generally the four five six iron is going to be hard irons for a lot of people to hit but making it look look

Really easy right now let’s see where this one finished and look at that distance again 198 excellent excellent excellent all right we’re going to go five iron again here cuz we’re still about what 320 o something like that so we got to hit another good one now it gets pretty

Narrow up there where this is going to land so I need to keep it a little right if possible we’ll give us a good angle at this pin as well over there so right side of the Fairway is my target and that’s exactly what I’ve done again that contact not the

Best probably hit it right here but if you looked at that ball flight you never would have known the difference between that and a center hit all right let’s find out where that one finished we’re going to probably have either nineiron or gap wedge in hand hopefully we’re not

Between clubs cuz that’s what I’ve got and uh we’re in very good position on a par five irons only and five iron off the te that’s pretty exciting as you can see it’s really narrow right here where I’m standing is only about 20 yard wide I’ve got 122 which means gap wedge

Here should be perfect really little leaf behind the ball there flag is kind of front left there is a no real bunker problems where that pin is thankfully I tugged it just a little bit and we’re going to be off the green but this gives us a chance to use a bonus

Club in my bag and I’m so glad that my local Wilson rep John let me borrow it because I need it all of the sudden it is the staff model forged 60° wedge that just came out he gave me one wedge to test and that’s going to be the perfect

Club for this shot shouldn’t have missed that green though if I’m being honest especially with a gap wedge but as you can see I’m pin High and it was an aggressive line I’m only off by 25 ft probably to that pin but it was just a mental error let’s see how

This 60° wedge does and maybe more importantly how it feels and Spins I landed just a little further than I wanted stop should move just a little right to left it’s a downhill putt got to get the speed right too yes W well there you go irons only

Wilson Staff Dino Power forged we had a par On a par five that is pretty darn incredible with the clubs we use now before I leave you I like to rank clubs on five categories distance in terms of distance that’s an easy five out of five in terms of forgiveness absolutely five

Out of five I’d give six out of five for both of those categories if possible but that’s the top end and that’s what these clubs get in terms of workability these are going to be a a four out of five I was surprised honestly how workable

These clubs are you saw a few shots here out on the course but I’ve also tested these at the driving range and some other holes that I played here today and yes they are workable so four out of five incredible in terms of Aesthetics looks feel sound five out of five these

Clubs feel as good as any club in this category if not better in terms of value absolutely 100% five out of five these clubs are 2third of the price of their competitors in most cases you can get a set of these for $900 $99 for a players

Distance iron of this caliber that’s as good as it gets now here’s our score and it’s an absolute monster you know that I test a lot of golf clubs out here and I have no brand affiliation whatsoever these are up there with the best I’ve ever tried so excited for what I saw

Here today I can’t wait to continue to test these clubs because I’ve got a couple of other sets that you’re probably going to be interested in including the staff model cavity backs and the sweet sweet fully forged Wilson Staff blades it’s going to be a fun spring make sure that you’re subscribed

Here to Let’s playr and I’ll catch you back here hopefully real soon on another episode of let’s play through

  1. Watched your reviews of this one, mizuno 245 and Maltby TS-1 im. Seems to be a toss up. At least regarding performance ?

  2. I would say I like the look of last years D9 Forged a bit more and the name DynaPower does nothing for me. That being said the D9f almost made it in the bag last year and lost out to JPX923 forged.

  3. Love wilson! I picked up last year's model, the d9s, for $300 brand new. For a game improvement iron, they feel amazing and have that crunch at impact.

  4. Ordered the 243/241 combos this past week. Couldn't pass up those MMT 105s/MCC grips with no upcharge. I hit the Wilson CBs and if these feel similar they'll be awesome feeling.

  5. Agree with you 100%! When I saw these on Google if I didn’t have my Mizuno JPX921 Hot Metal I would be seeking these out. My son has the Willson D9 forged and they are absolutely stunning and awesome. These to go in my bag in a heartbeat. Great review… Was waiting for it ! 👍

  6. I would like to see you test the new $599 dollar Cleveland Launcher Max irons. The look like a throwback game improvement iron and the price is good!

  7. Great review and looks a great club must try them I’m looking at forged irons but as a senior mid handicapper want forgiveness and distance.
Tried the T350, G430, Paradym Smoke, DCB, P790. Always loved Wilson and the prices are sensible!

  8. Love your enthusiasm Gabe. Would you rate these Wilson's superior to all of the other DTC and less frequently used brands that you have demo'ed? I no longer have your sort of speed. I wonder if lack of stopping power would start to become an issue.

  9. @LetsPlayThru how would you compare these to the Mizuno Hot Metal Pros? I know you mentioned comparing it to the Pro 225 and 245s, but these look a little more friendly. I was ready to buy the Hot Metal Pros, but now I want to hit these for distance and the difference in feel of forged vs nickle chromoloy forged. I hit the Pro 223s and the Hot Metals were much better for me.

  10. You seemed to hit these Wilsons really well….maybe need to play a few consecutive rounds and record your results. Personally I like the look of those Wilsons and they are forged too.

  11. I’ve been playing the Ping 425 irons & have been very happy… but thru watching your channel and others I bought a new set of Wilson D9 forged irons at a great price off amazon and I’ll say not only a beautiful club but they preform, I’m extremely happy. Thanks for all your content and best to you

  12. would have bought these but default really bad shaft choice. its literally the highest spinning highest launch shaft offered by any brand i think. I tried 5 other irons, this was easily the worst performing stock, yet i believe the head itself is one of the best. my mishits were great…unfortunately they were all mishits. ended up with st pro cally just because the shaft was a more middle profile. not extreme one way or the other. tested st pro, jpx 923 hm pro, miz 223, dynapower forged, i 525.

  13. Hi Gabe, love the channel. Great review. I have the Wilson D9F and they are great clubs. Would you say that this year’s clubs have enough improvements it would make sense to upgrade? Thanks Again!

  14. Thanks Gabe, long awaited upload, I'm a Wilson fan.
Haven't got the game for these irons but use the D9 cast irons.
Great fun thank you my friend.

  15. Great review, Gabe. Been looking at these after getting a demo D9 Forged 7i to try out. I’m pretty convinced the extra loft these provide over most of the other power irons is going to give me the descent angle I need to get the thing stopped. As a slower, but not slow swing speed player, those clubs with a 7i under 30deg may go a long way, but they come in at such a shallow angle as to render them all but useless. A see a trip to the club fitter on my horizon.😂
