Is close to done I um I would and and then if you’re the commanders you’re probably going to get close to knowing whether or not you’re going to take one relatively soon um because you know it’s going to be available to you absent Caleb Williams
You can look at the entire class and um decide if there’s one there worth taking so the Patriots it’s more complicated because they can’t control um and they won’t know what the commanders are doing for a while so the only way you could say that they’re absolutely positively
Taking a quarterback at number three is if they hold two quarterbacks not one two quarterbacks in that regard Beyond just Caleb Williams so um you know this is the first chance that they’ve gotten to sit down with all of these kids um for interviews here are over now so
They’ve had a chance to meet with all the top quarterbacks um they have the ability to bring them in for 30 visits they can meet with them at their Pro days and then they have three Zoom calls they can do with them so you know we’re really
Still on the front end of the process and they’ve had a chance again to sit down with these kids for just about 15 minutes at this point so um you know I I I I think you can say they have a desire to take a quarterback at three I believe
That whether or not they’re 100% Lock Stock and Barrel yes we know we’re taking one at number three yes we’re sure that there are three quarterbacks in this draft that we see as true franchise guys that much I don’t know and I can take you right back to 2021 to
Illustrate that point because they viewed M Jones as the second best quarterback in that draft behind Trevor Lawrence and they were kind of lukewarm on Jones right like they weren’t they thought he was a good not great Prospect how but Zach they liked him better than Zack Wilson Tre Lance and Justin Fields
But so were but were Zack Wilson Trey Tre Lance and Justin Fields considered the caliber of quarterback of Drake mayor or Jaden Daniels I like that class was seen as really good yeah so I have to like I’d have to ask around on that to know for sure but this is
Seen is a really good class too I again I’m all the only reason I’m making the point Fred is that they might like they may they they may think four or five quarterbacks in this year’s class are are of that caliber I think it’d be early to say that because they haven’t
Had the chance to dig into as much with these kids it’s not I don’t think it’s as clear with the the other guys as it is with Caleb Williams that you know each one is a true franchise guy so I think there’re going to be differing opinions from different teams on that
Okay so give me the next most plausible scenario because as it was laid out the Patriots do take a quarterback at three and they find a veteran out there to serve as th a starter or a backup to begin the season if that is you know ridiculous to even consider that they
Would have their minds made up what would be the next most likely thing to happen with that third overall pick that the Patriots have right um and I and I I would 100% endorse that because I think the makeup of this year’s draft class is such where I think you can get a
Franchise player throughout the top 10 you know now that doesn’t mean every one of them’s going to be a franchise level guy but what you have at the top of the draft um is premium players at premium positions tackles receivers a couple of edge rushers quarterbacks like so you
Can trade down and get another legitimate Cornerstone and give yourself some more capital and I think there’s going to be a real market for those top three picks because there are teams out there that view it as a three quarterback draft and then there’s a drop off and that’s not to say JJ
McCarthy can’t play or Michael penck or B Knicks can’t play but um at least within the league there is a perception that you have the first cluster then there’s a little bit of a cliff um then you get to the next cluster of quarterbacks and presuming that Chicago
Takes Caleb Williams at one and the commanders take uh quarterback at two the Patriots would be in a really strong position to trade if they decide um that the the quarterback that falls to him isn’t the guy all right I heard a Personnel guy from the NFL yesterday or
An ex Personnel guy say say you know he had thought about the Bears trading out of one and like what if they got you know the first round pick this year and two more and three second round picks like what a hall like what a hall and he
Said then he thought about it and he goes the Bears could get a star with every one of those picks and still not win because they don’t have a quarterback uh which made him change his opinion and say you have to take Caleb Williams yeah so that would be kind of
The same well if it’s believed that there’s three you know franchise altering quarterbacks in the draft that give you trade down even if you hit on those picks and still don’t have a quarterback it’s not going to matter right but like the art to the whole thing is deciding whether or not one

Yeah so like I think what’s interesting about these two guys right is um they both have like plenty of physical ability so Jaden Daniels had one year now he’s played five years of college football he had one year where he exploded and was incredible he’s a really good athlete he’s a little thin
Takes a lot of hits right like and so he’s going to have to adjust that and we’ve seen what happens with these quarterbacks sometimes when they’re not protecting themselves so he’ll have to learn how to do that which is a tough thing to do um to adjust your style of
Play at the NFL level and you know I I think a piece of it too is like okay like so he was throwing to maybe two first round picks at receiver and Malik neighbors and Brian Thomas so so how do you separate the players individual performance from what was around him and
When he’s got five years and one year was sort of the rocket ship year is that the real indicator now I think it’s interesting because it relates back to CJ stad last year where stad played great in his final college game and the question was has he is is that him

Receivers his line was a mess he lost his offensive coordinator um there were a lot of things that happened that he had to fight through right so with Drake it’s like you sort of look at him and say there’s a ton to like he had a great first year starting the second year
Starting he had to carry the team more and he was a little more up and down I mean he’s two years younger than Jaden Daniels too so that’s another thing you know so there’s a lot to work through with both guys I mean if you look the
One thing is if you look at like Drake May at this age and Jaden Daniels at the same age when he was transferring from Arizona State there’s no comparison yeah it’s that’s interesting because like Bo Knicks is 25 and JJ McCarthy is 21 pck
