Allegations not great not great not great at all a lot to ponder there but they signed this incredible deal with Netflix that WWE did just a few days ago or at least it was announced anyway there is something to be had there as well so as I mentioned before thumbs up

One out earlier but I really wanted to take my time with it uh I wanted to make sure that I got the details of Shawn’s defensive style I feel like I understand it a lot better this time because if you actually look at the Izzy fight he was leading still being defensive but

Leading and if you look at this fight he was a little bit more I would say on the actually a lot more I would say on the back foot and so you got to see the style in two different modes and it’s actually the complement of the two that

I think gives me a much better uh sense of why it works what he’s doing what the methodology is but also some of the limits and if you haven’t seen the video just very quickly again I do think that upon further review I do think that Shawn should have won however you don’t

This is what F there’s been a lot of controversy this week and this is the point I’ve been trying to make to some of these new newer fans if you feel like Shawn won you’re not wrong and if you feel like the judges didn’t get it right you are also

Not wrong but welcome to prize fighting where we have a system of judging where the judges don’t have the benefit of stats they don’t have the benefit of taking extra time they don’t have the benefit necessarily of the omnicompetence in terms of what they can see from their View and what they can

Understand and and they have to give their scores at the end of every round they don’t wait to give their scores at the end of the fight after the round is over they turn their score in they cannot change it and that’s it this is not a system that is designed to give

Maximum accuracy it’s designed to give enough accuracy where they basically get it right for the most part but in any close contest there’s going to be a dispute about it there is we don’t have a system that maximizes accuracy that’s just how it is and it’s not I know that’s

Frustrating what I would tell you is again if you feel like sha one you are uh you know that doesn’t mean that you are 100% right but it’s okay to feel that way because there’s a very good case for that and what I would also say

Is if you watch fights long enough what you’re going to find out is your guy not Shawn per se but just any fight you like any fighter you like is eventually if they fight long enough they’re going to get a nod that they probably shouldn’t have got it’s going to happen right I

Didn’t think for example GSP deserved to beat Johnny Hendricks but he did and that’s the end of it that’s that’s the beginning and the end of the entire conversation and I like GSP a lot I like Johnny Hendrick too but you get my point it will happen we do not have a system

Uh and I don’t know how there could be quite frankly you could have a better system but we have a system that is built on speed at the at the slight or I should say relatively minor expense of accuracy that be can become major in hotly contested

Contests um but it’s this is this is how it is so welcome welcome to the world of prize fighting the last thing I would say is a lot of people were like really bitter about this idea we like well didn’t beat him dominantly so the argument would be like

A DDP didn’t win but okay even if he did he certainly did not beat him dominantly and the latter of that is certainly true like even if you thought he win it’s close right it’s very very close guys nowhere in any place on Earth that regulates fighting no organization on

Earth that regulates itself in terms of fighting in kickboxing in in MMA in boxing Sanda anything anything none of them employ a rule where you have to if you’re the Challenger fighting a champion you don’t just have to do better we have to do way better first of

All like what the [ __ ] does that even mean you have to do like way better what is that standard you know what I mean if you’re winning 10 n then that’s like there’s no way to be like what what does it mean to be like way better like

Define that in actual terms round by round you’re going to see that it’s actually close to Impossible possible if not outright impossible to do we understand what different degrees of dominance mean but that’s not how we judge either it’s 109 one way or 109 the other or you could do 101 depending on

How you saw it right I mean that’s obviously an available option as well but you don’t look at the end of the round and you go well this guy was better than this one but he wasn’t like way better whatever the [ __ ] that’s supposed to mean so we can’t give him

Learn to live with some of this stuff a little bites it doesn’t mean it’s you have to think it’s great or that you think the judges were right by the way one of the judges did give it to Strickland of course right so there’s that as well um but this idea that like

About countering the Jab in boxing you should ask your coach but as I’m a boxer and how would that differ from how you’d counter the jab in MMA I’m oh there’s a million different ways I’m sure in MMA there’s more room to work with footwork wise yes you’re further apart typically

You can throw kicks off someone’s jab that’s true you can actually you can uh if they’re stepping on their jab you can kick to the body when they’re jabbing but in pure boxing terms I mean there’s a million ways dude you can dip out of

The way and come over the top you can bait the jab and go to the outside you can um um you can wait till they go you can pull and then you can counter but these are questions for your boxing coach it it really depends on the

Context it depends on your fight style to me it depends on the style of the opponent um but there’s a gazillion ways to counter the jab if you’re actually training for real just ask your coach I don’t I like to break down film and give like basic generalities but I don’t

Typically leave here’s what has happened to me I’ve gotten questions like this from people and I’ve given them answers and then they did it in their practice and then their coaches got bitter at them so I try to kind of avoid these sorts of things I don’t mind going to

The tape of like a highle prize fighter and trying to make some analytical work out of it but what I’m not trying to do is [ __ ] up the relationship that an individual person training might have with their coach and I tend to find that um sometimes when you go with this stuff

They they that that has happened to me a couple of times like it doesn’t make me feel great so there you go but yeah dude slip dip jab I mean any number of things you can Parry the jab come over the top I mean it’s just a mill you know there’s a million

Different answers to this question uh okay all right Luke while I un Excuse me while while I 100% understand the risk in Kayla making the cut to 135 and I know weight cutting is different for each gender but I cannot excuse me but I recall caner dropping

From 205 to 185 at a similar age to Kaye yes and prior to that he had made a significant drop from heavyweight to light heavyweight also true not completely unlike Kayla’s drop from 170s in Juds to 155 146 in MMA uh I would actually argue it’s very different but

Okay again acknowledging weight cutting can be harder on females but isn’t it possible given Jared arguably has his best performances in his third weight class down that we may see Kayla be elite so let’s set the context here if we can obviously she fought in kilogram

Categories but if you just look at the math Kayla Harrison let’s be very clear about something too let’s just sort of State this out right I know some of you already know this but for folks who might be new to MMA let’s make this point very clearly Kayla Harrison is the

Best judoka in American history male or female by a considerable distance I believe she’s the only gold medalist male or female Jimmy Pedro has a bronze Travis Stevens has a silver there’s maybe some other ones there along the way uh she’s got two gold medals not one two two different Olympic Cycles right

Not because I know you know for example like if you’re in swimming you can get you know oh the the 4X 100 relay and then this one so you can leave with like six medals from one Olympic games no you get one medal in Judo per Olympic Games

And then you can get another one she she did did that okay she’s the best judo player in American history by far all right so when she competed she competed at what would be the rough equivalent of 172 pounds 171 and some change but basically 172 pounds that is where she

Won her two gold medals by the way I’ve had her in studio a couple times when I was at SiriusXM I’ve run into her at various events you know she’s a well muscled individual to put it quite mildly obviously if you’re going to be a judoka at that level you know you’re

Going to be a great athlete but you know she is an imposing figure so um she has fought obviously at 155 her walkaround weight she has described as somewhere between 160 and 165 172 was a little bit on the high side for her to be quite honest so she obviously can play a

Little bit low so then she fought at 155 for a while and then she made the cut to 145 so that’s about a 152 lb cut in order to get down to 145 well now you’re adding an additional 10 lb on top of

That so now it’s no longer a 15 or 20 PB cut now it’s a 25 or 30 lb cut and I understand that you can see some guys do that I don’t I don’t know of a lot of guys who are that’s that’s not true there are some guys at 135 that can

Probably walk around 155 is 160ish on the high end I certainly don’t know about a lot of women who can do that especially at her age Ronda Rousey you might note I think competed closer to she went up in weight towards the end of

Her career I think she was like at 13 ex she ended up up in the high 140s I think like 147 149 when she finished her Judo career so getting down to 135 was not was was entirely manageable and then before that I think she fought in the

130s but again she eventually moved up to the high 140s so you know getting down to 135 was very competitive I’m not saying that she can’t necessarily make the weight uh but she has long been against weight cutting I had her on the MMA hour in 2019 she

Went on I won’t say a TI raade but she made a very clear point that weight cutting is quite bad for you which it is um again I’m not going to say names because they don’t want me to but I have talked to people who are okay

So guys who are fighting in the next few couple of months I talked to one of their coaches and one of their managers and they monitor all of this guy’s biomarkers and endocrine system markers and everything on any kind of test weight cut that they’ve ever done and it

Wrecks these [ __ ] guys I mean wreck them we don’t ever talk about it and apparently she’s done test Cuts already those test Cuts will [ __ ] your [ __ ] up right look at Tony Ferguson I don’t think that test cut ever did him any favors either maybe that’s not the full

Explanation of anything obviously but I don’t think it did him any favors I am not suggesting she doesn’t have the discipline or wherewithal or the ability to get down to 135 if Kayla Harrison says she can make 135 PBS she can make 135 PBS but the question is how healthy

You can get down there what kind of performance you’re going to get down there if dude if 135 was where this could have been all along she’d have done this [ __ ] a long time ago she is doing this towards what I would argue is the approximate close

To uh tail end of her athletic career because her calculus has changed on this because the business has changed she was never able to get the cyborg fight obviously she lost in pfl I know she had a win in DC in her last contest um which is great obviously she performed quite

Ay um she had the 145 fight in Invicta blah blah blah you guys know the story but if if 135 was doable which is what where the market has been for her or I should say a much better Market has been for her all along she’d have done this a

Long time ago this is a desperate act by an elite athlete who is trying to make something of what’s left in her athletic time that’s really what this is and again if she says she can make it I believe her I don’t I’m not necessarily worried that she’ll make it you’re going

To have a very hard time convincing me that this is going to be the optimal weight class now you bring up Jared caner do Jared caner dropping to middleweight was partly a result of him not wanting to die properly and blah blah blah but he was noticeably you know

Very fat at heavyweight he was visibly not leaned out at light heavyweight he only got lean at 185 pounds when he would make it Kayla does not have a ton of body fat on her again if you’ve ever seen her in person this will become immediately obvious to you she does not

Have a ton on her she to get down to 135 is going to be a Herculean effort that’s going to require um you know Elite nutrition and very very careful diet planning along with very careful training and blah blah blah you’re not you’re you’re simply not going to get

The best out of her at 135 pounds she would have done this a long time ago this is not like Jared who would I think had expressed that he was unfamiliar with better dieting practices he didn’t know exactly what to do didn’t know that his body would perform better because he

Had been so heavy all that time he had all this excess wait Kayla is a lifelong athlete she is someone who has had to make weight and perform her entire life basically from the single digits of her age up until now the body awareness of people like that is significantly

Greater than people who pick up MMA a little bit later in life and that’s really the you know terms of elite athletic performance that’s really the best they’ve ever had they might have you know played Sports in high school or something but they didn’t become an

Elite athlete until they went to MMA or El Elite uh fighter until they became an MMA fighter totally different totally different so it’s not an unfair question it’s like hey didn’t this guy drop down a bunch and perform better absolutely but that’s because he was leaving something on the table that’s really not

What Kayla is doing to go to 135 she is taking extra extra off the table in order to get there to the point where I think it’ll compromise her performance she could still win again she probably will make weight if she says she’s going to make weight and she the odds makers

Have her as a prohibit favorite I think I saw like minus 400 or something like that like did people think she’s going to win I think she’s going to win if if if uh if Holm is being choked out like if she’s being power guillotined AKA

Ninja choked by uh Myra Bueno Silva yeah I would imagine especially now that Kayla’s got elbows Kayla’s got Dynamic takedowns she’s [ __ ] strong as an ax right her top control is excellent and now she can really let her ground and pound go yeah I suspect she will win I

Suspect but the the idea that like oh this is this is a great place for her no 145 sure 145 sure 155 more especially uh 135 is far from ideal but the calculus of Everything Has Changed and therefore she has changed so there you go luk given all the talk about the

MMA history I don’t know if I agree with that I I think a better way to put that might be a consequential illegal strike um there are very there’s a lot of consequential strikes that are perfectly legal you’re you’re referring to one that was illegal because there’s

Been plenty of guys or ladies who’ve been knocked out and were never the same afterwards I would argue for example the head kick that Ronda suffered 100% legal that was pretty goddamn consequential she was never the same after that right I mean she she had one more fight and

Then left the industry basically um so that’s pretty consequential but to your point about illegal and then there sort of fork in the road yeah that one’s up there I’d have to really think about it um there’s some other ones too but that that is are various ey Poes as well um

That is up there again though this is one of the situations where any attempt to preserve the kind of sort of existing rule about a downed opponent who can or cannot be hit any of these alterations that have happened in One Direction or the other really haven’t solved the

Problem they’ve made it a little bit better perhaps there has been some minor adjustment that’s worth taking seriously but in general no they have not worked and so I just sort of feel like it’s time to recognize that though data from one seems to indicate uh the idea that

Don’t call it something that it’s not it’s a pep rally it’s a pep rally it’s a fight we pep rally where the media are expected uh and and I’ve seen I’ve I I don’t have the kind of relationship with UFC where this happens but I’ve certainly had it happen with

Other promotions where they have kind of asked me to ask a question at certain press conferences not like a individual question but like hey you know kind of facilitate the action here but in the case of UFC where the media and attendants are expected to ask the kinds

Of questions that make The Fan Experience better but a real press conference you would go at any number of different directions and you wouldn’t have this pressure from the public to perform for them either for the the media or the fighter so I’m not in any way against having an event where

Fighters get up there people ask them questions and they react but this idea like that the media’s job is to do this that’s not the media’s job at all like not even a little bit totally against it um and if you if you try you’ll get shouted down and booed

And then of course you know you get slandered on social media it’s a whole thing which is why people don’t do it in addition to any number of other reasons but that’s a big part of it so am I banned no although I often have schedule

Conflicts when I’m on the road which is the other problem uh either we have MK or I’ve got this chat or whatever it can be it can be problematic in terms of trying to find a way to get to ATT 10 but no I don’t okay I am not a I don’t

To go to the post fight press conferences that part I never get a chance to go to maybe Brian does he has to do CBS Sports I don’t know I’d have to not do a postf fight show for a major event in order to do that which I don’t

Want to do um possible but I just don’t want to do that what I would say is we’ve talked about this before right where if you ask him a question now and it challenges him it becomes like a me versus you scenario rather than just sort of ask you know

Answering it which again is his right he can he can do that if he wants it just doesn’t help for having productive conversations um oh yes about the hypocritical IAL views on censorship and Free Speech yeah I I talked about this on MK I mean my

Whole point is this like if you guys like who you like say as much and if you want to make you know what beer you drink and your allegiance to that in the culture wars as like a forward part of your personality I don’t recommend that on either side but you’re certainly allowed

You can you can write these [ __ ] off today first of all Tom’s uh bench press uh even with the dumbbells his pressing technique is not great if you notice he goes really wide and you’re just a lot less strong here your elbows kind I want people think

Bench pressing is this it is not bench pressing is 45 degrees it’s not this it’s this right here 45° and your elbows come behind you like this right that’s typical bench pressing um so first of all he was more like this and here you’re you’re not going to get maximum

Power that way so here’s a guy who doesn’t really have proper technique but just sort of raw strength and these are not the kind of like weightlifting exercises he does typically right like he’s just kind of trying it out for fun with Eddie Hall or blah blah blah most

MMA fighters I’ve ever seen do some weight training but not like bodybuilding type of muscle building and that not incline press with the dumbbells is not necessarily that way but it’s typically more associated with that kind of um you know with like hypertrophy program they’re not going for hypertrophy that’s not really what

They’re looking for so there’s that as well and people have also said oh that adds up to basically his body weight and he pressed his body weight six times guys he pressed his body weight or something prettyy close to it six times number one on incline which makes it

Harder I know some people say they can bench more on incline I don’t believe that unless you have like shoulder problems or some kind of shoulder issue in general if you’re benching it’s harder to do on incline number one number two the math on dumbbells to

Barbells is not one to one so I’ve seen guys who can do 200 in a hand press well over 500 sometimes 600 lbs on bench they can’t do the same amount individually in their hands they can’t if they’re 600 pressors they can’t get three and three so this idea that like oh he’s

Skims off part of the shin or he can just outright check that’s the other part too Shawn will just check doesn’t give a [ __ ] he’ll just check so he’s developed the stance and a particular style of retreating the foot that is being attacked typically his left leg

Next to his knee this kind of angle that goes inside that enables him to either Miss and then understand say enables him to force his opponent to miss and understand what happens when he does that when he goes the strike goes underneath the foot goes right back down

Where he was and he’s right back in his fighting stance so he doesn’t have to change his fighting stance but for a split second boom comes right back down and he’s right back there it’s remarkable very very difficult to do very diff difficult to do I mean he
