Ready all right I’m pleased to be joined by Rose Zang for anyone here in the chat if you’d like to ask Rose a question please let me know in the chat function so we know to call on you I’ll just kick things off here Rose I know you had a
7:30 T time you’ve seen this course but here you are your second season um as an lpj tour member technically um at the Tournament of Champions what is it like to kick off your event here it’s super exciting um just to be here at Lake Nona
Last time I was here was at the curs cup practice session with Captain Sarah Ingram and all my other friends um but to come back and kind of see the course and have this be the kickart of my 2020 24 season um it’s just really cool um so
Really excited um I don’t really know what’s going to happen but I’m prepared for anything we last saw you at the Grand Thor Invitational and we spoke with Lydia who said you know it’s a little bit of a shorten SE a shorten off season to get here here what was it like
Preparing for uh this first event um it’s been it’s been very interesting because with the short off season it’s not something that I’m super used to um I’m used to kind of having two three months off um especially with Amer golf um so with that in mind coming into this
Event it was a little bit of a hustle to kind of get things in order um I have new clubs in the bag I’m trying to figure out my putter situation and um you know healthwise there’s been a lot happening too so like just a little bit
Of adjustments here and there um which kind of I guess throws off your little off seon um schedule uh I also moved so that’s I’ve been moving three different places moving from Irvine to Vegas Vegas to um Stanford so and I also finished week one of school so there’s there’s
Been a lot of moving Parts but it’s been fun you’re not busy at all um a couple questions um that have come in um so how are you balancing that class and workload with kind of your practice schedule and how do you plan on kind of balancing that especially through the
Beginning of the season right um well this is the only event that I’m playing uh in January and then going to March I’m going to start my season back up again at pal bir days um so it gives me a little bit of time to kind of do a
Bunch of prep work in between and a lot of school um but I did finish week one and I’m currently missing week two which some of my Prof my professors aren’t too happy with um but you know once that’s all settled we’ve just been doing a lot
Of work outside of practice and um I think it’s time to really just get dialed and and uh grind on the golf course too we were just talking about it off camera um but you do have a little bit of homework this week what homework do you have and what classes are you
Taking this semester right um so I’m taking a stats class um so I had to finish a p set last night at around 12:30 um and then you know this morning it was a very early pram time so um didn’t have too much time to rest but
I’m also taking a journalism class and then a political science class finally a media site class so everything’s you know it’s really interesting um but it is a full course load uh so I’m very well prepared to have some late nights coming for our jobs Rose I will open it
Up brenley what have you learned in the journalism class so far journalism class so far so we’re actually supposed to create some beat memos um where we’re trying to build couple like stories that we want to cover um in these 10 weeks that I’m taking the class and then uh I
Think I’m going to do something around Stanford Athletics so right now it’s all brainstorming but we’re getting started in terms of how to interview people and how to write good articles that people want to read objectively yeah um you you said moved from B back to Stanford is just is that
Just for school and then you’ll be back in Vegas once school’s over yes 100% um so yeah just the transition from moving out of state um and being in Vegas is not something that I really called for in this off season but uh figured it was
A really good time to do so and then I just have a bunch of stuff there but then I also realized oh I have to go to Stanford so I had to move some of my stuff back up to the Bay Area and then you mentioned new clubs um was this
Something where you eventually would have had to transition into new clubs because you kept using the same ones that you used in college or is this just new year new equipment that Callaway has right it’s both um the AI smoke Paradigm has been really really good um and I
Think Woods wise you know it’s always the little alterations and there’s always new product that’s coming out uh so being able to adjust to those is not too bad but I have changed my irons um and with the irons now they’re um they’re not the Apex Pros that I
Played my whole life ever since I was 13 I was playing a Apex pros and um now it’s the forge starred um irons which um I’m really excited to play but it’s also something very new um and then going from there is just trying to get dialed
Down with what the specs look like and uh what my gapping is for all the rest of my clubs what do those irons allow you to do yeah um so the reason why I wanted to change them too was to have a little bit more accuracy in my distance control so
Um even though I was hitting really well with the Apex iron um there were some cases where you know my ball was too hot um coming out of the face and it’s been generating um a couple different noises that I would probably not appreciate as much on the
Golf course so with that in mind these golf clubs are more precise with that distance control while being around the same number as what I had before Babs um did you say a new putter as well you working a new putter in or yeah I put
The AI putter in um it’s been quite interesting quite interesting of a journey to find um my putting back a little bit um right before British Open last year um that was when my putter disappeared so now it’s kind of you know transitioning to what feels good uh how
I can visualize puts going in and there’s there hasn’t been a lot of practice going on um so trying to understand my li angles and everything and the setup it’s just been a little bit of a transition but hopefully you know we’re just going to have the
Confidence to keep rolling putts yeah I mean it sounds like as you dive into all this new equipment you learn a lot about your your specs your swing your what’s that Journey been like yeah it’s been really interesting because I I in my opinion it’s really cool um I love just
Learning more about Golf and the specs on um how players play and um what specs are catered more towards my game but I will say that you know it’s not something that you think about a lot in amiter golf simply because you have so much time to adjust your game without
Actually adjusting your equipment um that you can just work with whatever you have I was talking to Allie M caddy about it as well um that this is something really new to me um I’m not trying to you know tweak anything in my game but rather in my clubs because
There is some significant you know need to change um but that’s about it I think it’s a pretty cool transition nice I was going ask in the short period yard here last year you know great instant success um what what’s the most significant thing you learned um yeah uh I think the biggest
Thing about last year my little rookie season was um just to not pile so much on my plate it’s been a lot that’s happened and I feel like I continuously will have a lot that’s going to be happening but it’s almost like every single day um it’s almost like I’m in a
Rush to complete a lot of things um balancing everything and being able to handle all the attention as well um I think it made me realize that there’s times where I need to focus on certain things and take a step back um try to make those things improve better
Including my golf game you know the school grind Etc um having that clear mindset of what I want to do on a daily basis instead of just rushing into things is something something I’ve been kind of working on brose it sounds like you still have a lot on your plate how are you
Prioritizing with so much going on right um it’s still a work in progress I think I’m learning a lot more as there’s more things coming my way um but it’s I I would say that the prioritizing um it’ll just come little by little as I continue to you know
Navigate the Waters of what Pro lifee and school life kind of um kind of intervene with each other but also you know since I’m now kind of a grown adult like I have to actually figure out everything else um you know just including moving houses all the
Paperwork and stuff but um I think the people have really helped me in my life like from my team to my family friends um they’ve been really supportive and they’ve really kind of eased my I guess anxieties about having to complete everything at the same time so the
Priorities I think will come but as of now it’s golf school pretty simple not too much happening and I think you mentioned earlier on during the offseason short offseason also having to deal with some health things unexpectedly can you share what you were dealing with
Yeah so um I think that with the travel and with all the unintended stress on my body um you know my like nutrition and the overall like feelings of eating has been quite difficult um like my body has not been processing things as well so I’m working with a nutritionist to help
Me uh kind of see like how I react to Foods cuz I would eat vegetables and be bloated which is not necessarily too normal um but these are not in my opinion like crazy you know health concerns but it’s more so like how do I be able to
Optimize my performance when I’m in season and I’m traveling everywhere with the time differences and the time zones what would make me perform well um also it’s just like little little tweaks in the neck here and there so you know it’s all a work in progress is there anything
You’ve had to cut out or eliminate that maybe you’re missing I am Asian I am Chinese I can’t eat soy so that’s not great um but you know uh a little bit of glue like just cutting out gluten and dairy as well um just to you know clear
Out my system and then make sure you know there’s other things that are I I’ll obviously like reintroduce these things but it’s just as of the moment we’re trying to figure out what’s happening how are you feeling now feeling okay I mean at least I can eat
Rice over here Rose is it difficult for you to say no in terms of prioritizing 100% um that’s also one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned I remember talking about it last year at the end of the year about saying no and um you know I always have
Been a people pleaser but not just for my not just for others but for myself too um I think the adjustments of saying no are just such a crucial skill to learn um especially when you’re going to have a lot more on the pl um it’s
Necessary for you to be able to maximize what you can do what you can’t do so um slowly still learning what may be and every day is different every week is different but what may be the the biggest thing that you have tried to push off your plate and say no
Um as of now it hasn’t been too crazy I would say it would my my nose are more so just pushing off like in terms of schedule because some people um or some like kind of tasks that I need to do they’re not immediate they’re they’re not required to be immediate but then
Obviously there’s an ideal date for everyone um so when there’s really busy days and try to kind of like push it maybe a day or two off just so so I can focus on other things you know when it comes to practice when it comes to PT
Etc like those are probably more so the priority and then I revolve everything else around that before it was like oh people have asked me to do this therefore I have to make this the priority rather than my own game you know responsibilities Etc so um it’s more so the rearrangement of responsibility
And also you you mentioned that this time last year was Curtis cup practice and all that and you’ve kept a very active amateur career but what’s been the diff perhaps the most drastic difference in scheduling travel and being on tour compared to just being part of the amateur scene you’re playing
A lot more golf that’s first of all um you’re playing full rounds of golf and they’re competitive but at the same time you know once you’re done with Sunday you’re traveling straight to the next event and usually in amer golf they’re only probably 3 4 days long Max those
Are like really long events um and you have probably at least a week or two to go back settle in you know usually I go back to practice a little bit or take a day or two off but that’s not really the case when you’re out here on tour and
Especially in different time zones your body has to adjust to so many different things and different stresses environments um so that really just changes the entire Dynamic of how you’re supposed to play the game and where your mind space is um so Amer golf is still very much competitive I would argue that
You know a lot of the amateur they all have the skill sets to be playing here on tour but it’s it’s just a matter of who can manage it the best all right and we’ll go to Kent on the zoom if you’d like to unmute yourself
Please hey Rose sorry to hear about the health stuff did you have any do you have any idea what the timeline might be in order to to figure out the issue yeah well it should be probably in the next month or two just it’s mostly just kind of reintroducing different
Food categories and then see see how my body processes it and then from there I’m doing some labs to really get down to the knit and grit of what’s Happening um but I think it’s just to know it’s just for me to know how my body is in different atmospheres
Temperatures um environments especially food centered areas um so it so it’s really just for my own wellness and performance but um yeah I think next month or two should be good what are your goals for 2024 out on tour um I’m definitely not kind of I’m not a result driven person I’m
Not someone who wants this certain ranking by this by the end of the year or want to win this event by the end of the year but it’s more so I think I’m more process driven so when it comes to you know just mini goals in what I
Want to do in school what I want to do on the golf course figure out my putting figure out my chipping hitting all this stuff um the goal is to just be consistent in these areas and then figure out how to perform from there so I don’t necessarily I generally don’t
Have a number in mind on what I need to do but it’s more so I play by year how did you balance choosing to take such a an extensive course load at Stanford versus giving up a a couple events to play in and maybe missing out
On some opportunities to move up in the rankings for for the Olympics for solheim and for season awards of course um um well in my opinion I think being at school is already a huge opportunity I don’t think a lot of people have um that opportunity to be able to go back and
Pursue their education while they’re you know playing a sport or doing their own thing um so being able to be there it kind of in my opinion and perspective I think I do better and will do better um through this period of time of just learning and learning from people who
Are you know just such intelligent in their own minds and Fields um but yeah I mean obviously there’s a lot of big time events coming up with the Olympics with solheim um but in my own mind if I play well in the events that I have then naturally you know I’ll
Have the opportunity to play those events how does your time at Stanford help you feel more grounded coming into the year when you come back right uh well it’s definitely a time that’s more simple there’s everyone’s busy you know no matter what you’re doing um everyone has their own schedules and you’re kind
Of just a fish in the sea where you can do whatever you want uh and you prioritize your own kind of needs and responsibilities um so being able to do so being able to find discipline in my own schedule uh and myself it kind of I
Think it’ll help me later on in the season um to prep me for whatever is to come um but at the same time you know everyone around me is doing such crazy things I have some friends who are doing startups already some people are entering the intern ship business and
They’ve already you know gotten into very top top companies um so everyone in their own right is grinding and it’s a really good environment for me to also do the same thank you Rose and then we’ll get to Edgar on the zoom and wrap with Babs but Edgar if you could please unmute
Yourself yeah hey thank you uh so what what do you think of the depth of the Americans when American women’s game right now it’s kind of a little bit of a change in the guard maybe in recent years and you’re one of the kind of young players pushing toward toward the top
Here yeah um there’s definitely so many more American women who are playing the sport and I think it’s incredible um just being able to have everyone kind of indulge in the sport be competitive in it um and at the same time there’s a lot more you know National events um that
Are playing against other nationalities um and for us to be able to represent our own countries um represent something that’s bigger than us uh it’s really kind of what we want to do as athletes um uh but yeah the honor of you know just being an American player and being
Able to play on us soil it’s really cool you can travel all 50 states and not one state is the same uh Growing Up in Southern Cal were were you aware of Alison Coro when she was at Southern Cal yes any yes I was I actually took an unofficial visit to
Southern California uh USC and um I actually met her there while she was I don’t know what she was doing I think she was kind of signing up for classes or something of that sort but um you know sawm passing by and then we play a couple amateur events together we were
Partners at Curtis cup so what she’s been doing so far and what has what she’s done with her career has been really cool to see yeah yeah just last one so what do you think of her performance at the US Women’s Open I mean she just kind of just didn’t let
Anyone really get in there to get her at the end but and the fact that she’s 25 I mean it was it took a while for her I mean 25 is still young but maybe not for women’s golf to get to that point and just her perseverance 100% I think her
Performance was so inspiring it didn’t really surprise me that she wasn’t phased coming down the stretch because her personality is just so calm cool collected um even when she makes a putt or drains something at the kurur cup and to win the match she was so unfaced and
You know it’s it’s in her own DNA that she’s like that um so with that in mind I mean her being at Pebble and Performing the way she did um it’s really inspiring for a lot of young players young athletes and even those that are on tour including
Me excellent thank you good luck this week thanks Edgar and one more from Babs just just a couple quick follows how how um um this semester’s course load how close does that get you to a degree and what’s your degree going to be in yeah so my degree is um going to be
Communications um planning on finishing out my undergrad but I think so I am I did finish 2 years of school already so I’m halfway there to my graduation um um Stanford has a requirement of 180 units so 180 180 so um more than so exactly so I already finished I already
Finished around 90ish units and I’m just going to keep doing the 20 units per winter quarter maybe take a couple winter uh couple online classes if I’m allowed to um in you know other quarters and then potentially if I do all this I’ll graduate in
26 which is not bad at all because my um my regular graduation year is 25 and a lot of people a lot of my friends are co- terming anyways so they’ll all be there probably just studying for their masters I was going to ask you a final one the the LPGA this
Year will play for 120 plus million dollar uh as a player who spent years chasing trophies now you have money as an element how does that change anything about how you go about things or how you view just the game itself not necessarily I think it’s for all players
It’s a big bonus for us because um you know for the lpj to have a lot more monetary um value and for everyone that kind of finally have a career um where they can earn a good amount um you know it’s it’s great but I think everyone genuinely loves the sport to
Keep pursuing this game even when the lpj didn’t have a lot of money in events um you know people were still playing uh because they just love the sport and I think that the overall transition of the lpj growing and growing the monetary value kind of just risen up with it um
So for us it’s just we’re still playing the same tournaments we’re still the same people um it’s just nice to be a little more comfortable U without having to worry a lot about uh the money that’ll do it for us thanks Russ yeah thank you thank you

That guy asking questions suggesting 25 years is old for women's golfers….What? Hasn't he heard of Celine Boutier, Amy Yang, Jiyai Shin…..? The tendency recently has been for most of the best players on the LPGA Tour to be 25+. He obviously doesn't know much about the LPGA Tour.
