Matt Adams reacts to comments made by PGA Tour Player-Board Member Webb Simpson about the current state of affairs with the Tour and LIV competing and expanding.
So web Simpson spoke with Adam shupac and Adam shupac is a great journalist and he has been for many many years and whether Webb was just in a mood to let it all go or Adam was the conduit to give him the comfort and the trust in
That environment where he felt like he could fascinating comments from someone that’s on the inside to give us a glimpse into what is happening now remember that the tour is actively courting the Strate IC Sports Group this is a group that approached them and said you know what we’re interested in
Investing take a look and listen to what web Simpson had to say about aligning themselves with the Strategic Sports Group from the tours basis he said quoting number one their bid the amount of money they were offering and two the team of investors who have crazy business experience their owners and
Other sports they know activation entertainment you name it they were all there not to mention how how much they love golf close quote clearly explaining how and why they decided that this was a group that they want to align themselves with he went on to say quoting they were
Very clear that they weren’t making this offer because they love the PGA Tour or because they love golf in and of itself we’re doing it because we feel it’s a great opportunity for us to get a return on the investment so they said they made
Me feel good that they see this as an opportunity and they went on to say we don’t need a reshape of a ton of things but we’re in a dire situation with live being a threat and for the first time ever players are not seeing the PGA Tour
As the greatest place in the world to play they are the right group to help us bring back that image close quote how fascinating is that piece alone the fact that he said that they’re in a dire situation uh in the fact that he said for the first time players have not seen
The PGA Tour as the greatest place in the world to play absolutely fascinating as to the money on the Liv side this board member said quoting greed is a very clear exposure I’m not saying that the guy is going to live that they’re all greedy I’m saying when these young
Guys when it’s such a heavy consideration for them I feel like this generation has missed or they don’t care about the things that other Generations care about which is the Hall of Fame how many wins on the PGA tour contending in major championships everyone talks about
The money I believe money can’t make you happy long term it’ll make you happy in the short term and not in the long term and then finally how about players overvaluing their worth and is the tour business model broken first of all to the players and is it overvaluing their
Worth He said quote probably for the amount of eyeballs in our sport like you touched I think so the amount of money we’re playing for is astonishing considering how many people watch our sport that’s why I’m glad SSG is coming on board because the way I see
It without SSG kind of where we were it’s not sustainable to keep paying for 450 million or however much we do on tour without some kind of subtle to major shift in how we’re thinking about everything and then finally to that question of is the tour’s business model broken again another fascinating
Exchange he said quote the model is broken at the purse sizes we’ve been going for for the last year and the sponsors are starting to feel it sponsors are pulling out Wells Fargo Farmers there will probably be a couple more this year I would think maybe one
Or two I hope not but there’s a lot of money to put up for a week considering the price of stadiums and Stadium sponsorships and all kinds of stuff hopefully we deliver a product where we’re like I’m close with Wells Fargo people they’ve been extremely happy up into having to continue to increase
Their purse and they just don’t feel like it was a good fit for them so the product is really good we’ve just got to sell it at the right price we’ve got to be careful there was that not fascinating was that not don’t you think a glimpse into what is happening in the
World of golf specifically what is happening on the PGA tour and where they see the future the game of golf going very much being a part of it SSG the other day in the show I was asking you guys what’s the ROI what is the return if you’re going to invest billions of
Dollars in the game at its highest competitive level these are very very intelligent people and they wouldn’t be doing it unless they felt there was a pathway to that exactly

PGAT officially ruined.
So you want The LIV just to buy everything they want???? 20 Million $$$ purses just doesn't make any $$$ sense, ROI, is not there
So the pgat is comfortable with the Fenway group, but not the Saudi group. Strikes me as bigotry.
The party is over for the PGA Tour! The Rahm defection was the back breaker! People are not going to pay to watch 5 of the top 25 players in a tournament! 👋
The PGA leaders ruined The PGA Tour. If they only met with LIV from the start. Even if Fenway Group calls the US $2B investment that LIV is offering (which is already A LOT of $$$) but they will want their ROI crazily back in the shortest time… As for LIV they can afford to sit that out. If Fenway Group gets the deal LIV will continue to raid PGA's locker rooms in the end less great players will be left and so who's going to watch PGA.. BLOOD $ ??? STOP this BS NON-SENSE !! On Feb. 14, 1945 then US President Franklin Roosevelt and King Saud of Saudi Arabia met on board the USS Quincy discussed and agreed that USA would drill OIL. Thus this begun the great Saudi $$$ to America that CREATED and SUPPORTED the many INDUSTRIES and Businesses since then yeah almost 80 years (8 decades) that in many situations all Americans since then BENEFITED from. SO let's STOP this BS Non-sense..
Players care about the same things players always cared about. What pga tour players Need to realize is the pga tour does not have such special legacies. Guys do want to be in and win majors, if they did not care about that even more would have left the pga tour by now.
Webb is as cushy with the brass as any player. He still can’t see the forest through the trees.
The key here is many players are no longer willing to be bullied by the pga tour, even if it means missing a few majors. None of these guys take that decision lightly.
The problem here is too many people still think the pga tour is more special than it is and that it could never even lose its dominance, especially in America. Newsflash. It’s really not that special and it can become less and less important companies to other golf tours. And there even is a scenario where the tour could disappear.
So I think it’s important the pga tour full supporters begging to realize where the pga tour truly stands. And how that can get worse and worse if they don’t get their stuff together.
