Hi good day viewers welcome to the hazy Crawford Stadium here in pter Span Trinidad we are here for the start of the local track and field season here in Trinidad and Tobago the entry is track and field series 1 and I’m Clayton Clark but more importantly I’m here with Ayana
Hutchinson bro and uh when you’re talking about Athletics she’s the person here with the experience she has been to the two Olympic Games Sydney 2000 and aens 2004 and beijing’s at three Olympic Games she was a semi-finalist in the in the 100 MERS at the 2009 Berlin World Champs and the
4×1 Commonwealth Games semi-finalist uh CAC games medalists competed on the NCAA system no doubt a lady with experience who can really guide us through this coverage welc comes to stride Visions TV coverage in Trinidad and Tobago is our debut streaming so we are thankful and
Grateful to all those who are part of it Ayana we’re here today for the opening meet of the entry season tell us about you know what what today the first day of a track season what is what we what are we to expect of these athletes well
This the first meet of the season usually is a wait for athletes to gauge where they are um to to kind of Mark themselves against what the goals and aspirations that they have for the upcoming season so this today marks wherever Mark they hit today is is basically the starting point from what
They the goals that they have to hit for the coming up um national championships in in order to meet national teams and such so if if you’re too fast you know you might have to tape up slow down if you’re too slow you know you have to do
More work there’s no such thing as too fast right so if even if these athletes are ahead of schedule especially anticipating where they want to be I think this being ahead of schedule is always better than being behind schedule so they they it’s easier for them to gauge and adjust their their workouts
And Training Systems to to benefit the way their their trajectory system going and I forgot to add she’s a world record holder if you don’t know the World Masters women’s 35 to 39 4×1 in Paris 2015 yes that team of let me get the name right Donell stord Sasha Springer
And be and Mar be so we have a world record holder here now this year is an important year the Paris Olympics so this is the start of the buildup for many athletes so tell us about how critical this year is you know the being the Olympic year
Yeah um this year obviously is a very important here especially when you do a lot of athletes gauge their Seasons at two and three year intervals so when you have a world championships and Then followed by a Olympic year it basically allows you to train with those big meats
In mind so a lot of athletes will would would try their best to perform at a level that they know that they can make these national teams whether it’s on a junior level or a senior level or even Olympic level and this lady has been to three Olympics and
Will Champs so she she can tell you a thing or two now line up today we have some of the events taken past we had the hurdles completed the 1500 MERS is taking place and uh we have some of the field events but we’re also going to be

With me Mr George kiss Young the president of the n3s for trinal and Tobago give me some insights into how the tra and F season is with be this today’s the first day of the first local track in Trinidad in our new F Stadium tell me how is the
Anticipation in competing in the stadium well it’s something that the athletes certainly the um administrators technical officials as well we’ve been looking forward to we did have the Commonwealth youth games um following the formal reopening if you like of the stadium um but yes you are
Correct this is the first local um track and field meet to be held in the new facilities um we are glad to be back clearly the the the facilities are more comfortable some of the major issues of contention um have been addressed so so
We are glad to be back okay great so in for today’s meet how many clubs and athletes do you participate um competing today we have as many as 39 clubs um who have registered to participate and there are some 488 athletes that who are also um in
Addition to the 39 clubs we have a number of what we call unattached um athletes those are athletes usually in transition from one club to an next or in the case of the the more professional athletes those who have returned home and have have not yet selected a club um
To to use as a home base okay so even before this season has begun there was a issue of the the well you informed the clubs and the athletes that the stadium both hazley Crawford and the Dwight York stadium was going to be decertified at December 31st 2023 um which means any performances
That the athletes may have done or will have done for this year 2024 will not be recognized by the world Athletics Association um what what what is the the plan to help these athletes in terms of making national teams and trying to get to the Olympics this year when
We it it was brought to the our attention we would have met with the sport company sport TI and we had a meeting to discuss it the issue was addressed we explored options and since both certificates were going to expire the end of December we then approached World
Athletics for extensions they were not prepared to Grant an extension on hazy cord given that it’s more than 12 years um since the track was last relayed they were willing to consider Dwight York an extension on Dwight York um given the situation that that if they adhered rigidly to their
Position we would have no certified tracks in Trinidad and Tobago so they have granted an extension on Dwight York that means that for those meets for which performance standards International performance standards are to be attained we would have to schedule those meets in Tobago ad white York it
Does not debar having events such as this one um at hazy Crawford pending its closure sometime around March April um later this year so while yes the performances today will not count in terms of um selection for the Olympics or World under 20 championships which is the two
Major events in 2024 it certainly provides an opportunity for the athletes to get a sense of where they are in their preparation and therefore make adjustments if necessary so the athletes and coaches will benefit from the exercise today we also would have trained some 60 persons almost 30 in
Trinidad 30 in Tobago um last quarter in 2023 we’re talking about technical officials now and we took uh if you like a different approach from in the past we said to them listen our approach this time around is that you will do the theory and upon Su successful completion
Of the theoretical aspects you will now be required to gain some practical experience and parties have agreed and they have committed to officiating at six meets um as part of that practical exposure prior to being awarded their certificates so we have new technical officials um if you like undergoing
Training we have the older ones because the rules there have been quite a number of changes to the rules and therefore they are getting an opportunity if you like to apply the Revis the more updated rules while we speak so the event is serving several purposes yeah um to backtrack in terms
Of qualifying standards for the athletes um I know there’s a a rule from the world Athletics that for especially during an Olympic year you have um the previous season so you would probably have 12 months in addition to the six months give six or so months leading up into a national championship for
Qualifying standards given the fact that the the stadium is in this the position that it is in will the qualifying or any qualifying standard made within the last year will those be accepted as as good enough qualifying standards for the Olympics coming up this year selection for the Olympics is a
Comb comination of attainment of the performance standard and your ranking so for some events if if the cut off is 32 um persons to be selected initially they they’re looking for the top 32 or looking for 32 people who have made the standard um if that quarter is not filled then
You look at the rankings so yes performances from the prior year would apply once it it falls into the Olympic qualifying period performances as well at Dwight York will also be considered now there’s a little um Twisted last year too and that is that you need to have your meets registered
With World Athletics for them to consider the performances for the rankings so we have been approaching them for local meets that we are are satisfied that the standard um is high enough so that we can have those meets on their calendar so that performances will be recognized and so therefore the
Meets that we propos to have at Dwight York um between now and the end of the qualifying period will allow for selection Andor for ranking um on the world Athletics platform does that rule apply to the junior athletes cuz we were talking about Elite athletes and Olympic
Standards well does how does the the that scenario work in case of Junior athletes looking for World um to go to World Championships and um PanAm it’s more or less the same um by Junior we mean under 20 and therefore the system is more or less the same okay so with
This year being an Olympic year what do how do you assess your medal prospects for the um Olympics in in Paris and the World Championships based on the performances last year in the world championships in Budapest I am not one of those who tend to try to predict medals um we did not
Have a good showing at the last World Championships I will be the first to concede but if you look at some of the other other performances during the year the Juniors particularly did quite well um at the senior level we had some good performances at CC games um
So to me all is not loss I can say for example um the team the 4×1 men’s team that won goal at CC wasn’t the same team that went to the world championships and what rarely happened there is that the the team that went to CAC was perhaps the best five or
Six at that time when they came home for the Championships and we had head-to-head combat they were not the best so I say all of that to say that at least on paper you have potentially 10 12 100 meters Runners that could possibly form a 4×1
Team all right but that again is using last year’s data and performances it’s early in the season and we wait to see see what will happen we had some very good performances from the females in particular um last year and we expect that some of them will step up this
Coming year George thank you so very much for your in-depth interview we wish the entries and all the athletes and clubs participating this year with anticipation of making those national teams all the best and thank you again very much thank you for having me and
Now we head back to Clayton Clark on the track with more action the fifth and final heat of the girls under 17 girls under 17 100 m section five Lane assignments is as follows reneisha Roberts Memphis Lane one Chelsea Joseph point4 new Jets lane two lane number three Malia Cupid which
Is the sister of mcka cupid of zenet Lane 3 Shante San of IG fast lane lane four Kate cra for on attach lanee five Lane six zad Pascal of DD Progressive Lane number seven I iena F iena Lewis of fad I hope I got that correct iena and NAIA Young
Of4 new jet will start in Lane number eight section five of five of the girls under 171 100 m and we have the long jump taking place just below us there trying to get the uniform of that athlete so he looks to be neon wolf neon that look like Omari BR of neon
Wolves he’s under 17 competitor as we turn our attention to section five of five remember the time to be 12.30 seconds by Z Tobias of zenet as the quickest time so far here after four Heats and they are off let’s see on the outside it’s neon wolves is f but is Mela Malak
Cupin followed by Chelsea Joseph so Malia cupin Chelsea Joseph is in second and we eagerly await the Timeus as we as we focus our attention into the Disco circle at the time at the moment it’s our world Masters champion gwendaline Smith multiple World Masters champion and she is 60 plus believe it or not and and she’s competing against her younger rival she was in the hammer and
The javelin earlier so cupid 12.78 seconds Joseph 13.27% 3 seconds and Mela C it 12.64 so we arew the official results of the under of the 100 meters but unofficially it’s Zia Bruce running the quickest time of 12.30 seconds and the under 17 boys we have
Seven Heats so lots of racing for the young sprinters as they no doubt looking to get to the the kifa games to be held in St George’s Grenada this year the kirani James International stadium and uh we have more details Mr kamish is going to bring us update on
That as we look to the long jump taking place just before us but back to the 100 m on the 17 boys the lane assignment lane two should be Alphas Jordan John Lane three Josiah Fox of fad Lane four qrc’s NZ Davis Lane number five kadim chinapoo of Simplex Lane six
Jesse Joseph searia Lane seven khil David of point4 U Jets and in Lane number eight Nathaniel Lewis of Memphis Pioneers so we under status orders lay first of seven races in the under 17 boys and we are viewing us on stride vision TV here at the entry is track and
Field season 1 at the hazy Crawford stadium in pter Spain Trinidad it’s the start of the track and field season here in Trinidad and Tobago and they are all section one of two a close start but Memphis is it Memphis spner but a battle there between Memphis Nathaniel Lewis [Applause]
And we’re trying to just want to confirm the name for you might have been a slight change in the start list but no doubt about the winner after there two Memphis Pioneers at least in that race so we need to get it clear so Devon Grant of Memphis
Pioneers the winner in 12.20 seconds and in second place Josiah Fox of fad 12.3 for seconds as you get ready for section two of seven so we’re getting ready for section two of three of the under 17 boys 100 meters Lena Simon jaama fed lane two Hezekiah Mao Memphis Lane three JM Jones
Simplex Lane Four J Jayden posal Cy Lane five Douglas Zen Lane six Matthew phix Lane seven and Martin and it’s zenet zenet zenet douglas kwin douglas jacan douglas of Zen is going to take this one a strongl looking jacen Douglas all powerful let’s look let’s see the time
And we await the time in that [Applause] race and Douglas is eagerly awaiting his time and the braided Sprinter number five 95 11.56 no doubt the faster of the two time JM Simplex jadm Jones 12.02 seconds so we are getting ready for section three section three boys under 17 100
M so we’re getting ready for section three of seven boys under 17 100 m Lane one Jeremiah Nicholas of Memphis lane two Isaiah Francis Simplex lane two Israel maano QC Lane three lane four Timothy Hamilton IG fast lane lane number five Tyreek Nelson Phoenix Lane six dejon Alexander Point 40 new jet and
In Lane number eight amadas Ferguson of zenet in the lane number eight section three of seven of the boys under 17 100 m here at the entry is meet number one the first me meet of the local season and you’re viewing us on stride Vision TV and let’s see out this one simple
Atlet Francis and this IG fastl Hamilton Hamilton Hamilton is running away with this one Timothy Hamilton of IG fast lane and it looks to be Simplex on the inside may have gotten the second spot but no doubt about the winner no doubt about the winner clad in
Black we saw them in the long jump earlier today the prominent block of IG fast lane as Mr Hamilton showing a clean pair of heels to his competitors 11.64 seconds for Hamilton in second place that’s in section three Ferguson out there in Lane number eight was second
And uh we are remember it’s seven Heats so winning your heat Francis was third on the inside 12.17 seconds and uh the is the culmination of the seven he is going to determine who is quickest on the day but so far it’s jquan Douglas of zenet after three races
Is the quick yes as we get ready for section 4 five and the lane assignments from the outside Kyle manswell of Simplex Lane number eight Lane number seven jayen Valentine fad Lane number six JZ Springer QRC Lane number five Josiah Prince of Memphis Pioneers Lane number four a axel Johnson of 40 new
Jets Lane number three Elijah Melville of IG fast lane and in Lane number two from Phoenix at atletics Nadim Williams that’s your lineup for section four of seven of the boys under 17 100 m as the action continues with the long jump and the discuss on the far side so
Just to give you an update in just a while and the under starters orders as we look into the discuss Circle let’s see who is the comp edor there from D Progressive in the discuss women so we’re going to get back to the discuss in a while but the focus is on section
Four of the girls under 17 100 the boys on the 17100 M I beg your pardon and it’s the heavy Breeze picking up here let’s see section F on the outside from Simplex Kyle manwell of simplex and he’s pumping away driving those arms and puffing as he crosses the line smoothly Kyle
Mansell and quite honestly I don’t know who came second and a heavy wind so that may have may impact the the the time looks to be a sring win as we await the official time in second ction four of five as pton Winters in the Disco Circle just had her throw 11.62 meter
11.62 seconds for Kyle Johnson was second so the Kyle manswell 11.62 seconds still slower that time is actually the third fastest time section two 11.56 stands up as the quickest time followed by by Timothy Mansell so Johnson 12 point 26 seconds as we get ready for section five of the boys under
17 under Section Five give you the lineup Lane number two from Genesis Jordan James Lane number three Malachi cner of zenet Lane number four Josiah sea4 new Jets Lane number five Malachi Hernandez Memphis Pioneers Pioneers Lane number six Anon Anon griffi of FD simplexes Kon Thomas is in Lane number
Seven and Lane number eight from apollosa that’s basam Fortune basam Fortune so that’s section five out of seven of the boys under 17 100 m are showing Marshall has his attempt in the long jump the veteran athlete the Master’s athlete in that event and Marshall is 60
Or going to be 60 this year looks rather youthful it’s busy here today as we have long jump taking place as well as discuss and Adriana quamina and uh her sister Sophia com up both in action Adriana and 20 boys and 20 girls and Sophia in the under 17
Girls as we have section three of five again picking up here blowing our faces so it might be a Tailwind a pushing Tailwind and Malachi coordin of zenet followed by Josiah sea so zenet Sprints away with this one Malachi cner as somebody’s soing may have come off so Malachi C of
Zenet and that section five out of seven and the to W Tobago Club here and showing their colors already and 11.02 seconds from Malachi corner so the fastest of the day and the Seer is now the second fastest 11.41 seconds for Seer that’s Josiah Seer of4 new
Jets so we have a new leader 11.02 seconds for Malachi corner of zenet and uh second fastest Josiah sea of4 new Jets the third quickest so far is another zened at jaquin Douglas 11.56 seconds and in the circle in the discuss is wendelin Smith World multiple World Masters indoor and
Outdoor champion and she recently won the the the North American and Central American Masters triple gold medals triple gold medals and uh as we see gwendel and Smith there showing that age is just a number she’s competing with children who could be her grandchildren as we see Anderson sobero over there in
The long jump just waiting to see his official distance yes a multiple multi AET does both long jump and triple and and pole vault out of Sandy Grandy competing for Toko taak as we get ready for Section six of seven of the boys on the 17 100 meters
Lane assignment Jaylen Eckles aosa Lane 2 Cameron poell Phoenix Lane three lane four Micah Bane Memphis Lane five Daniel Jones Simplex Lane six Jeremiah Nathan D Progressive Lane seven Jonas gon of cougars and in Lane number eight Ishmael evangelist of cheatahs well he’s supposed to be in
Lane eight he did not show for that race but we have five athlet six athletes on the start line Lanes three to six let’s see and a quick start there from Jonas Jones of but Phoenix Cameron Powell of Phoenix running away with this one gon on the outside but Cameron poell
PH Phoenix the red and white of Phoenix Phoenix running away with this one so 11 points another quick time there by poell and poell is now in second spot guon was second in 11.60 seconds so cner Remains the lead 1102 but now Cameron poell of Phoenix is in seconds with
11.03 seconds followed by Josiah sea4 new Jess in third so that’s your top three with one more heat to go in out of seven six out of seven completed and that’s in the under 17 boys 100 m so in the long jump taking place before us on
The 17 boys we have QC well represented here have three athletes from QC one of them just had his effort there DeShawn trudge NZ Davis and Shiloh kichel all three from QC but getting back to the track section seven of seven boys under the 17 100

Searia is led by Ian Morris former 400 met record holder we remember him famously finishing in fourth place at the 400 meters at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and it’s a quiet a hush descends on the hazy Crawford Stadium as all eyes are focused on the start of
This section seven of seven boys under the 17 100 m and this all seven athletes are indeed starting this race and let’s see who’s going to top that 11.02 seconds by Malachi cordner and they are off and let’s see who going to start this one look like the stallion

Quarter CER Josiah sea of4 new Jets welcome back and and I’m here with Sheldon Mason the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Masters Athletics Sheldon thank you very much for sitting with me and having this chat with me thank you for having me
It’s good to be here okay so let me just ask you recently took over the Reigns as president of the Masters Association how has your time been in office so far um it’s been really interesting to say the least um I didn’t plan to be the president of Master Association at this
Stage in my life but the situation happened that it unfolded and I accepted the range because I see that there’s a lot of potential in the Masters Association in Tran Tobago that could be really propelled forward to just Engage The General Public into Athletics and well some Master’s
Athletes should be in action today so how happy are you see to how happy are you to see them being able to perform so early in the season given the trials and tribulations you suffered in the past well it’s really awesome I’m really elated to see them performing now
Because it give them the opportunity to Shar up themselves for Masters championships that is coming up later this year and also in preparation for World Masters Championship so everybody get an opportunity to get ready and they get Shar so no complaints about they didn’t have enough meets all right so
The MS is also hosting their first development meet on January 27th how’s the planning for that meet coming along well the planning for that meet is coming along really well because we have a meeting with entry to finalize the partnership because we’ll be also hosting men and women open events thus
Giving the senior athletes an opportunity to compete during the track season because a lot of the times they don’t get opportunity to compete regularly so with partnership with Masters because we could facilitate in the time slot and it also just makes it more enjoyable and it draws a bigger
Crowd all right so I’ve I’ve I’m also a part of this Association of Masters athletes and we have been representing the country with honor and distinction in Regional and international meets for many years how proud are are you of the achievements on the of that these
Athletes have done so far well I am very proud of them because they would have paved the way for me to be in the Masters Association because I remember competing as under 20 and Men open and I was training alongside a lot of them and now to become and be president of the
Association is really interesting as the age up it just shows how life is a a circle and you know once he a baby and then you you’re you’re a big person and um I’m really proud to see them and this opportunity here is a way for us to show
Them more in the light on a national level because it’s National Duty that they’re doing and they should be recognize a little bit more than what they are now right so what are the plans uh for your associ what what are the association’s plans to involve more
Athletes over the age of 35 well the plans uh really to host more track meets for persons over the age of 35 because it was also a well hear a lot of athletes complain that they do not like to run in the open events because they’re running against persons younger
Than them and it it’s more comfortable for them to run in the same age bracket so us separating ourselves and doing our own developmental meets giving them more encouragement so it will give persons who probably take a step back to come forward and also encourage some of the
Parents who has be in the track me supporting their children to also show the children well if you could do it I could do it too I I love that so what what are the the main goals for the the association coming up for 2024 being
Even though this is an Olympic year and Masters don’t generally compete in the Olympics I know there are we actually have our own um International World Championships so what are your plans for that championships coming up well this say it’s good that we have decided to host our own developmental meets because
Registration for World Championship Masters ends at May and our championships as the first weekend in June so persons need to qualify before our championships and our championships also will be open to the Caribbean members to come and be involved in it thus creating more Synergy and a more
Push for masters in Tran Tobago and outside of the World Championships is just to host the meets we also ping a 5k at some point in the year maybe after our championships closer to August offseason time when everybody a little more D and relaxed so that we could get
All the athletes to be involved and the goal is just to get trinad and Tobago involved in Masters Athletics because there’s a place for us here cuz we are specific to a specific set of persons especially when you look at it from a Ministry of Health standpoint we
Targeting those who might be early onset to ncds diabetes hypertension so we want to get them active and when you train with a goal in mind persons tend to be a little more consistent with their Health and Wellness thank you so very much for sitting with
Me and having this chat about Masters in track and field Athletics and I really wish all the best for your members coming up in 2024 and all the best in your world championships coming up this year thank you very much I hope you training to be a part of that team as

And I’m here with Mr Joseph Brewster the president of secondary school sports track and field Association Mr Brewster thank you very much for having this little chat with us oh hi thank you all right so the 20 24 Secondary School stock season has kicked off later this
Month right um give us some events some dates some venues and how everything is shaping up for this year okay um so good everybody um The Stand Out event the first event the kickoff event you know the blocks event is the relay Festival right that begins on January 18th right
Here here’s the Crawford Stadium starts at 9:00 a.m. and finishes around 6:00 p.m. in the afternoon after that we go on to the South Central relays which is entral games sorry which is also called the Richards sedeno Bell Regional championships right named after those Local Heroes and that takes place here
At the hill cord stadium for two days uh till 24th 25th of January after that the next week we go on to the W cut lendo a regional championships that thing speaks right here at the ha cord Stadium on the 30th of January 31st of January and 1st of
February then we go back to Tobago for the qu sorry Stuart quow batist Regional championships right and that takes place on the S and 8th of February after that we rest for Carnival and we come back after carnival on the 20th 21st and 22nd of February for the
National championships right here at the his Okay so now your season began with a 5K and Cross Country Events later late last year how did those events come off and with goals and objectives met from what you had settled for yourself yes um well I’ll tell the goals and objectives
First the goals basically main goal is to get more persons into middle distance running before we used to have just two races uh 5K and across country what we have turned into now is a league right where we have three races in Trinidad and three races in Tobago we got the Tre
Stuff in Tobago all right and uh it was wonderful it was really really good it was a 5k across run and across country uh we got two off in Trinidad because the last one which was supposed to be 5K at the Larry goms rain F fell up until
We canceled and as soon as we canel the sun came out that the Lord say don’t do this one you know so um but we had over 1100 persons participating throughout the event and so we were very satisfied right with our goal which is to get more
More students involved we had members of the public involved we had Parents we had teachers and and and we we look very very satisfied very nice um with the regional championships under it it it’s coming off very early you said early February with all the the how is the
Schools selecting athletes to compete at these Regional events given the fact that um many of schools may not have hosted their own sportting sporting events to choose their teams at that point well um I guess like my school we we don’t have a uh our sports day comes
After the event right so what we do we do a screening event where uh we have the students go out into the Savannah and they they do go PES um we know some of them are already uh on the track team so we know what they are capable of but
We still pick them against other students and sometimes we get a surprise here and there many schools are doing some some of the same some of school some schools are having their Sports days um but mainly is like a screening event it’s more traditional for Tobago
Schools to have sports days so but they they’re lucky cuz their Regional games is the 7th of February you know those of us in Trinidad we we not so lucky we as school and Pace you know so we have to do selection events um you mentioned that uh your
National championships will be held later after what after car after Carnival now I’m not sure if you’re aware but the stadium itself will be um going undergoing repairs with the relaying of the track does that mean that you will have to shift your your focus from here to having your games in
Tobago no um luckily uh we fall into the period where they see Miss open okay right and we’ve been to last two championship was in to were in Tobago you know last year and right before covid we were in Tobago so tobo has been
Having a good time I mean and if you ask them they would want it back you know because they love it right but we need to bring it back to Trinidad but the schools here to be comfortable too because I mean I mean let me say that
Because schools love to go too you know so they just home it’s a little bit easier for me you know on the body right and the committee and we give the tobo students opportunity to travel Trav across yeah so in 2024 you were part of a delegation that the Ministry of Education and
Sports and Community Development visited Jamaica to observe how their school system their track and field system is operating what would he takeaways from that trip and have you has has your Association implemented any of the methods that you’ve discovered being used in Jamaica well um one the mean
Thing from that I mean we we are closer to Jamaica than we think you know in terms of the way we do things um one of the main take from that is how the coach instructor Works in schools they have no Club system for junior athletes we have a very
Strong Club system in Trinidad so so what we trying what we have to do is to try to gel that mix that you know pick out something that will work for us I’ve been looking at um other Caribbean countries and how they work CU some of
Them have Club systems too um but even with them they’re not as established as us we have a lot more clubs in Trinidad and Tobago uh some other takeaways is that the level they start at they start at the the ecce prechool level right it’s it’s it’s crazy when you see
Those little children running and doing their thing right we don’t go that far down so you know we there the ju fer came here you know in August and we had a seminar with them for two weeks as well and we looked at that and I mean we’re now starting to model certain
Things and our supporty he has been tasked with that work and we are there and we will support him as much as we can okay great so how would you assess the running of secondary schools for track and field under your stewardship as president what would the highs what
Would the lows how things going so far that’s difficult to do yeah you asking me to blow my own trumpet if that is the case and you think you’re doing a good job and your work actually speaks for itself then I don’t see the problem with that so let
Me know yeah but then sometime the trumpet squeaks you know all right so um it’s a lot of hard work it’s a lot of hard work um the the change in secondary school didn’t start with with me you know it started a number of presidents coming on the road one notable one is
One who who was before me is Dr Philip allad and under him we went from the zonal system to the school system we have now under him we had the website established songs established and and on so it was easy for me to work after him
With him as as a consultant right right um there are some changes that came when I came in uh for example we are have gotten away from um this first in each well no we have gotten away from the zonal system we at eight zon so now we
Into a regional system and in this Regional system what is happening is that when you take part anywhere in Trinidad and Tobago in those regionals your your performance is put into the National Pool and the best to CL right right and we also have a qualifying
Standard when we go to the Regionals so if you make the qualifying standards you automatically qualify for the final right so it’s some of those things that we bringing in we have a lot more surprises here and the Innovations and renovations to be done you know so we
Could make it very comfortable and even more effective what we can also do now is to go into our database and just pull out all the aets we want because we have information on everybody so if you give me a name and give me a little bit of
Time I can find that person right in here right so that’s what we looking to do we’re looking to get our stuff to a different level right so that our athletes can have a you know a a the best chance that they have to perform right we’re looking also to bring the
The the the games itself up to that level you know get the stadium get more people in this stadium so when they come out here you know they don’t run and supporting themselves but there are school children out here the public out here and so on we also working with the
Diono Foundation right to be able to have these students have opportunity to get scholarships and so on and so on and so on and so on you know uh we working closer with the ministry of support the ministry of um the sports company as the
Case may be to be able to you know to to give those opportunities get coaches in schools and and so it’s a lot of hard work like Mr Dr told me he said you make being president hard but you’re trying to do too much but it’s a labor of love
Right I have a very hardworking committee right um and and we work as hard as we can so at the end of the season we rock back and we say and then we get up after two weeks and we start planning for the next year Mr Brewster I
Thank you so much for sitting and having this chat with me and I really really hope that the the the the goals and the aspirations that you set out for your Secondary School Sports Committee and these games and the the schools I hope the athletes benefit from it and I wish
