Lewis Harry walks us through Justin Rose’s rare wrong ball situation that occurred in the 2024 Sentry PGA Tour season opener. What happened, and what would have happened if he didn’t correct it!
Well Happy New Year we kicked off 2024 with the century Tournament of Champions at caloa this past weekend and with that we had our first rule scenario on the PGA tour this happened during round one on the seventh hole with Justin Rose and also in away with his playing partner Taylor
Moore let’s kind of dive into this and figure out how Justin Rose ended up with a double bogey six on that particular hole so have a little bit of a diagram here of that particular hole Justin Rose hit his t- shot somewhere there BS there for his first
Stroke so we have one stroke there Taylor Mo’s playing partner also hit his t-shot I’m guessing roughly in the same vicinity so there’s two balls right next to each other Taylor Moore may have been playing a certain number on one ball Justin Rose may have been playing a
Similar number on his ball but Justin Rose’s next stroke ends up not counting so he hits a ball from here and it goes somewhere put a question mark there it doesn’t really matter because the stroke that Justin Rose makes isn’t going to count in his score because at some point
We’re going to discover that he has just hit a wrong golf ball I think he believe he hits Taylor Moore’s golf ball again there’s some confusion there between the two numbers maybe they got him mixed up or maybe they just weren’t paying attention but this stroke actually isn’t
Going to count because Justin Rose is going to hit that wrong ball with that he’s going to get the general penalty of Two Strokes so we’ll put two more Strokes up here and again that stroke’s not going to count and because he hit a wrong ball there’s going to
Need to be a correction to this mistake so we’re going to need to go back to this spot here and we’re going to either need to hit the right ball so luckily Justin Rose had his ball still in play or if Justin Rose hadn’t hit this uh
Golf ball maybe he went back and he realizes oh I don’t know where that original golf ball might be after 3 minutes to Lost golf ball and we’re going to have to come back to the teeing area with another penalty stroke under stroke and distance luckily we went back
Here we found Justin Rose’s golf ball with the correction that mistake he hits his ball on the green and then two putts in the hole there’s one two three more Strokes that’s how we get our six total there had he not realize that mistake he proceeds with the first ball hit goes in
The hole then he goes to te off on hole number eight and then realizes he has a wrong ball mistake unfortunately the six isn’t going to be our score in this scenario instead we’re going to get a DQ because that mistake of a wrong ball has
To be fixed before we go on and make a stroke on the next hole even if he had holed out and then was walking to the next T and then realized his mistake we still have the opportunity to go back and correct that wrong ball mistake the
The really the turning point there is the next stroke on the hole so so luckily we made that correction in Time Justin Rose just moves on with the six for his score and he can play on the rest of his round
