The Raptors battled down to the wire with the Lakers on Tuesday night but came out on the losing end. Sam Mitchell joins Jay Onrait to discuss the close contest that could’ve went either way, the inconsistent officiating in the NBA this season, strong Raptors’ career starts from RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, and LeBron James’ comments saying the Lakers were “just stuck right now.”

Raptors drop one of the Lakers 16 laid changes uh even in a loss and you know they’re fighting the officials a little bit what do you make of that I know Raptor fans are upset the way the calls went I just think for a season for the season the fish ain’t been so

Inconsistent and I don’t like the harp on the officials it’s a tough job but it got to get more consistent and the players will adjust to the whistle but it can’t be one whistle in the first half and a different whistle in the second half yeah like this this just

Seems like inent contact right yeah I mean that’s just a good smart play it’s just like when guys run dhos dribble hand off when they when the guy comes off they step there set that screen that’s why you practice and do these things so we see RJ uh we see Emanuel

Quickly I asked you before we started the show what you what your initial thoughts on the trade were now that you’ve seen these guys play with the Ws a little bit what are your thoughts initially I thought it was a good trade I thought OG needed to go somewhere

Because there was times he got lost in the shuffle I think bringing RJ Barrett home was great but then add an emanu quickly I think that’s the piece that the Raptors really want cuz RJ and OG they cancel each other out you look at the numbers they’re similar type players

But they needed a guard like quickly and if you look at the NBA today Jay if you don’t have a guard that can score you’re behind the eight ball you can’t win I think the Raptors are starting to catch up with everybody by making this move

For quickly in RJ you’ve been in so many locker rooms as a player and as a coach and a guy like quickly comes in he’s got a big personality it’s good for this team do you think great look at how they’re playing energy and plus he’s coming to a team

Now he he was a bench player coming off the bench a very good one for the Knicks but now he’s got a chance to do with all players a chance to start this is on him now if he can prove that he’s a starting point guard for the Toronto Raptors

Messiah J gonna sign him to nice contract this summer and you start looking at him in the back court with RJ Scotty Barnes we don’t know what’s going to happen with Pascal but those three guys with Perle those are four pretty good young players start building around

Yeah really nice uh meanwhile for the Lakers LeBron obviously been frustrated with the Lakers play of late uh says we just suck right now um that was a remark last week remember this team won the playing tournament they reached the Western Conference Final last year looking at them against the Raptors on

Tuesday Sam do you see them this roster the way it’s constructed do you think they’ll be able to get back to where they two good wins they beat the Clippers the other night this was a good win against the Raptors but I don’t see it when you’re in the 10th seed right

Now it’s just to High to climb and right now the Lakers don’t know their identity are you a defensive team are you a three-point shooting team are you a fast break team or you a half court executive team but to me they got to rely on their defense until they get their defense

Figured out until they understand that then to me they’re going to win some games and lose some games they’re gonna stay in the middle of the pack round that playin but you talking about a team with Anthony Davis and LeBron the playin should be more of an embarrassment than

A goal for it really should we got you talking about LeBron James Anthony Davis on your team and you’re and you make the play in I mean you should be fighting for one of those top four at least top six spots

  1. As much as they try, the referees aren’t going to get the Lakers into the playoffs.

  2. They've been doing it for years, only thing now is they ain't covering it up. Plus what do you thinks going to happen? NOTHING!

  3. This is so so. There was ref bias against raptors. It was evident through alot of net drives. But, the free throws near the end were intentional. It was lopsided. Refs need to start getting fines for bs games because not the first time there was controversy and its not going to be the last

  4. IQ gets kicked out with a flagrant, which was obviously a basketball play, meanwhile Siakam gets tackled going to the net and that's a common foul? Davis flops like a soccer player on the French national team and draws a foul. RJ clearly touched the ball, barely, and Davis draws a foul. I've never seen a more blatant display of refs fixing a game in my life.

  5. These are not questionable calls, these are calls made by officials who showed up in the 4th and figured out ways to win it for the Lakers.

I almost feel like NHL commissioner gave pointers to NBA officials on how to be inconsistent with the calls.

  6. If its lebron, steph, durant, embid, giannis,or luka its a foul if ur jokic or any player on a shit team its not a foul.

  7. TSN is a billion times better at covering the Raptors than Sportsnet. Jack, Leo, Sam all bring a unique element and make the games more enjoyable.

  8. Remember that the head referee is the same guy that FVV called out last year for incompetence. Maybe he has a 'thing' against the Raptors.

  9. AD was flopping all over the place egregiously enhancing contact. I thought the NBA made a rule against that for this season?

  10. That is always the case when Raptors plays all star Team. The only time Raptors can win with these refs officiating is when they play well and lead a commanding margin. Scottie should learn to let situations go, stop complaining and concentrate on the game. He needs to develop hes basketball Ai and start to act mature in hes game.

  11. Time for a change: suspend the refs. Hold them accountable. The last quarter was laughable. That’s not basketball. 👎 Ima lay off the NBA for now.

  12. Where is this outrage when Embid regularly gets the ticky tack? Giannis 32 fts? You hear this coach say he has been watching for his own player this has been happening to. How many times do the raptors play the bucks and sixers during the season? And what team had the most fts? Now here comes the Laker game. As usual they are the prop for the league, news etc. The league is certainly not rigged for them. They hated Kobe. LeBron game is drive to the whole for 21 years. Barnes game is so similar. Who avg more

  13. Vince McMahon's fingerprints all over this one….props to Darko….NBA keeps sweeping this under the rug….being reflected in the ratings in the pat decade,

What a crazy FLOP by AD….lol make WWE proud : /

  14. Real people watch the NBA vs the NBA scam machine. Thank you Coach Darko Rajakovic for saying what the talking heads are paid to cover up. The NBA should be ashamed of itself. And it makes Lebron and the Lakers look weaker, seeing they need the refs' help to win games.

  15. Mitchell is back and forth. Although, he covers mainly the Raptors he's an NBA employee so he can't tell you the truth. Raptors were robbed by the league again and you'd think he understand since points were shaved off our team in the past while he was our coach. Mitchell has become a true company man 😂

  16. NBA really need to start utilizing AI to analyze plays in real time. Refs get way too many calls wrong (for whatever reason) and they are ruining the game.
