To the last show for 2023 It’s a combination of all three um over the ditch on loose lines and also talking TR is for what the hill um and as always anyone that actually might watch that show I always start off with one of the winners for what the hill this is
Actually just about empty the straight this was today earlier today at Westport uh this was Bella lindin on the inside for Roger Austin Blair orange in the Suki um with um it’s got dedri Franco I think is the horse that’s on the outside of it for J Thornley kept it very very
Honest and high noon in the Nan colors coming down the middle of the track uh we’ll get into second but Bella lindin the daughter of what the hill out of Annabella ly Denny staved them all off and got the chocolates in a very very solidly Run Race uh there on the grass
Today at Westport um she took out the first race there today so uh make sure you get in touch with the guys W did do a mistake actually at Woodland stud sorry I will have to go this way I don’t have what Hills stats on this um this
Slide but yeah please if you are watching get involved but of course seeing at Woodland stud alongside B the light down by the seaside speeding spur and sweet Lou what the hill stands for $7,000 and he has bought you talking trots for the last four months um and uh
We’ll continue talking TR as we’ll continue into the new year and um we’ll sit down and discuss and see what the show looks like after that but yeah um course better Delight will be another leading side again I think it’s 13 years in a row um a New Zealand horse has been
An Australian sire of the year uh what the hill will be the leading three-year-old trotting sa in New Zealand um sweet Lou taking all before in both sides of the ditch American ideal standing there at also at um lower long Farms as well he uh he is um third
On the two-year-old sers list this year which is the first season so these are the first CRP of horses that stood at low long farm so third 33 individual winners and uh doing an awesome job and I suppose while we’re on the uh the theme if you like of Woodland stud and
Um I think them very much for their commitment Mr Bondo won the Breeders plate at Leon um this is a great race this is One race at um it’s great to have it back before Christmas because that’s when it used to always be for that Christmas New Year’s holiday period
When it was our time oned race um and Mr Bondi got the job done there the sun of down by the seaside uh for Mickey boots board that horse just recently from uh rean Hollis and I’m going to go with Shane Robinson I’m not 100% sure if it’s Shane or Scott
But um they both do a terrific job preparing horses over there he was pin hooked from the roof from the nzb uh weing sales and then the boys have been able to get him up and going they want a race in in New Zealand he ran a couple of good placings as well
And then sold him here and he’s come to Australia and one two on the bounce already so uh doing a very very good job and very very impressive winning there but yeah one of those great little races the um the Breeders Mi breeders plate as
It used to be called um was a terrific race and um yeah and uh right we’ll see how we go with that one um but um anyway we will we will get there with the other rest sorry I’ve had a couple of messages come through and um
Yep I’ll have to uh go through and sort those ones out um Rory m m mic is one of those Ros if you happen to be watching mate I’ll have to try and get your bit later on I’ll just um got a couple of things planned right start of the show

Night a lot of people may not be aware of it but it snuck around very quickly this meeting um good meeting good quality meeting early start early finish for plenty of people getting ready for the New Year’s celebrations yeah uh we followed Melton into New Year’s Eve last year so um they
They’ve given us that meeting again and uh we’re uh obviously uh glad that it’s not New Year’s Eve in a way CU um I don’t mind sitting back watching a few fireworks uh doing a little bit of cooking on the Barbe doing a bit of cooking
Correct haven’t had one of those for a while I’ve been a bit disappointed mate I don’t know like am I just off the off the frequently messaged people’s list now oh no look the YouTube Channel’s going pretty strong now so you probably got to get in line to get any of those
Clips now oh you’ve got your own YouTube channel no I haven’t but uh you could probably help me break into that market couldn’t you I could I I could we could do uh do a segment every week on Campbell’s comments if you like uh Eric’s cooking what’s cooking Eric yeah
Exactly right noing forward to that actually has a half a half a ring to it um in in a scary sort of way 607 is the first uh this week and good Fields good betting races what have you got anything planned this weekend for anyone wanting
To go out there uh look we we just want to get as many people on side as we can so free entry for those uh looking to come up and uh yeah basically Kitchen and Bar are open and and hopefully we get through a few through the door and
Um yeah we can make it a good night um crowds have been good since the grass you must be wrapped with the grass at the front Eric it’s actually seems to be working and and good crowds and people happy to sit outside with the better weather yeah now we’re pretty fortunate there I
Guess we were uh maybe looking to mimic a bit of the ashf that we had prior uh that we ripped up and um that sort of went a bit South with uh the clay underneath the Bendigo clay they they sort of weren’t too happy laying the new
Asheld on top of it so we had to make a quick rejig and went the concrete slab across the top which gives us a bit more table options for cup and major meetings and uh the grass down at the bottom and I think it’s been brilliant you know all
Feedbacks been really positive with the um you know the grass just creates a bit of softness and uh it’s you know it’s a lot more um relaxing to sort of have that environment looking uh rather than just hard Concrete Hard Ash Fel hard hard grandstand you know no absolutely
It can be dangerous this time of you doing these sorts of shows Eric because uh uh Maddy Markham hello Paul longtime listener firsttime commentator he does a show with me every week I reckon there a fair chance he might have one or two sherbets on board he does the over the
Ditch show with me I left him out this week and I’ve got Johnny Turner coming in I don’t know whether I should be ringing him or not it could be dangerous that part couldn’t it no well well uh we always like to please Paul so we will accommodate all

Flagship meeting I would say for the Ben yanas Racing Club yeah no we’re we’re excited we’ve obviously been building this for many years now I think uh you know the the Mar m itself has started to break into that International uh viewing platform now which is uh super exciting
Especially for anyone winning that race it’s uh you know it does definitely open up the doors as a potential invite um which is great and um yeah g G’s horsen Hound Mar m sorry apologize U G’s horsen Hound pacing cup they’ve been long-term supporters for the last four years
They’ve been brilliant you know they they continue to support us uh not only us but everyone really they’re massive in Australia Victoria it’s been great no they are and um Darren does a great job sponsoring everywhere and uh he’s he’s very loyal he’s well I was on the
Committee probably 3 years years ago and I think the three years I was on there it was always a garage Horse and Hound so I give it six how many years has he been a um supporter manate uh well I’ve been there coming up on six years they’ve been every year in
My time um so yeah we can’t think GS enough especially with the the store down underneath the grand stand um brilliant yeah no definitely uh M’s making me mty’s making me feel bad now so I lost his number I’m going to be catching up with him next week and’ll be
I’m going to ring him in a minute there’s every chance he’s got a one or two sherbets on so who knows where that could go but that that is okay yeah we want people to be aware of that that when they do come to bigo there is a
Store downstairs as well and um that’s going to change in the future yeah we’re hoping to uh move them into a slightly bigger building next year uh give them a few more uh options with uh how they laid the shop out but uh that’s you know they’re going to stay
On site which is great just a bigger building yep no absolutely and just changed hats mate um got the Elder Baron Zeus hat on uh Michelle Nisbet I might ring um you guys in a little bit too W been harness racing Club of course went underwater so I might give Tommy a call
A bit later on but I have the Elder Baron hat on with the Elder Baron Park Mari mile Elder Baron Zeus was actually last year’s winner um I’m Ready Set uh the winner the year before that um and then the gaffs I think won it four years
Before that it’s a Time honed race it’s got a lot of history um it is getting bigger and bigger and um it’s a race a lot of trotting guys really want to win and we want to make sure people are aware that this race is coming up it’s
It’ll be the first group one for the 2024 season yeah now for sure and I think I was listening to your interview earlier today and uh as as discussed it it is sort of the the first of the big ones for the new year and uh I think people
Do get a little bit excited because it does kick Kickstart the new season off for us it is it it does and um there’s been a little bit of talk that it’s it’s hard unfortunately it looks like most of those horses have contested the the Dominion won’t be backing up but I mean
It still gives plenty of opportunity there’s still plenty of depth in the race um we’re not sure who’s going to be there there’s up incoming horses coming through like RC Phoenix and that as well Chris Lang Chris sorry f noio um a few years ago he uh he showed everyone what
It meant to him to be able to win the race yeah and I have heard that camp might be uh set setting one for this race so that uh look out keep keep an eye on that one yeah P for noio they they they do enjoy winning it uh for the
Rest of the night mate how bookings looking uh no we’ll look for cup there’s still options to book the three course upstairs uh that’ll be available till Monday next week uh and then uh we will obviously just open her up for um bookings if you want to reserve a table

And um obviously you’re a professional so you know that I that we are are live so that part’s good you sound like you’re still moving chairs you still at the office mate no at Rich River Golf Club mate I’m uh it’s it’s a busy time a year for us
Out here we got plenty of people up in a chck mo and uh yeah busy couple of weeks for the club so so still here at the moment very very good um sugar Cup come around very very quickly but you must be one excited about it um um and and and
You guys moved I suppose to try something very different which is I’m think hats off to you guys yeah yeah look Paul the committee decided the last few years we’ve had our um our cup meeting on a Friday night in March um unfortunately last year the
Weather against us and um yeah look if I’m brutally honest the crowd was disappointing and a number of aspects of the night were disappointing so we thought why are we trying to you know create this event in March when we’ve got two very good events that we run on
The 1 of January uh and also the Easter Sunday meeting where we get a good you know a big crowd and attendance a good crowd in attendance and um we thought we’re much better off running out cup there so we decided to run uh our Cup
This year at the 1 of January meeting um and um yeah look it’s got all the ingredients for a really really good night out on Monday so we we’re really looking forward to it um one thing having lived in Ina for quite a few years I don’t think a lot of people
Realize exactly how busy and big the area gets I’d imagine that’s got positives and negatives for your cup Carnival a cup meeting coming up yeah look it’s certainly got a lot of positives um look the population of a Chuka maama normally is now around about
22 23,000 people so it’s uh it’s quite a big re Center and I know um on the New South Wales side in Mo Mo is the fastest growing Regional town in New South Wales so coming out of Co there’s lots of people yeah there’s lots of people that
Are relocating to the region lots of people that are getting out of the capital cities and and relocating to um yeah to Regional centers such as CH Mo so and there’s a number of reasons for that it’s you know the climate’s attractive um you know housing prizes are still reasonably affordable here
It’s big enough but not too big and we only 2 and a half hours away from Melbourne so there’s there’s plenty of reasons why I can see why uh a cha m is attractive um you know to a large number of people that are that are moving here
But what we certainly find is that yeah at Peak tourism times you know they’re probably at the moment between Christmas in year the population of a cha would be probably 35 to 40,000 auka M uh it’s very attractive for a lot of um a lot of tourists the Caravan parks are full some
Of those Caravan Parks accommodate up to 5,000 people so um there a very large Caravan Parks lots of motels you know a number of clubs uh including my club Rich River Golf Club and and my Bowling Club sponsor um our Chuka cup meetings so um yeah look it’s a thriving Regional
Community um but one of the one of the certainly one of the benefits it does have is at um at Peak tourism times being able to get visitors that are looking for things to do and looking for different things to do um it makes it a
Bit easy to get them out to you know our our our bigger meetings that we have at the club so um no surprise that yeah obviously the two biggest meetings we have every year are our January 1 meeting which is a traditional meeting uh and our Easter
Sunday meeting so um but yeah no overall we yeah we just felt as though moving our cup to the January 1 meeting would ensure that it would take our cup from you know if I’m brutally honest being one of the uh lower performing cups uh
To probably being one of the best so um we’re really excited and looking forward to uh to our meeting on Monday night and the weather forecast is excellent so uh we’ve got all the right ingredi for a bumper cup meeting little bit like what I just said to Eric though too the
Beautiful thing about Iuka and you guys probably better than anyone else green grass plenty of spots for people to lays around actually be able to lay on the grass and watch the horses but you can be at the back near the bar area where you got music and everything else like
That and no matter how hot it is by about 5:30 6:00 the the venue is in shade so it’s just such a comfort comfortable place to be around that time of year yeah now look you’re totally right Paul I know that on the the same meeting last year during the day it was
About 38 degrees and I thought oh the heat might put a number of people off um but by the time of the first race which is normally around about 5:30 um the sun is starting to head further over to the West um the grandstand Shades that that
Sun the lawn area is in shade um and so you know the crowd just you know the crowd just starts to flock in so you don’t really have the heat uh it’s warm enough but it’s not ridiculously hot um and yeah the grand stand sh everything
So it just makes it perfect for that you know that nice warmy you know type of evening that traditionally we get around this time of year um hat off to you as well Shan like you are the rich River Golf Club um and I will gladly promote that anywhere because anytime someone
Asks for some prizes or things Shan you’re more than welcome to willing to sort of give up some rooms or things along those lines along the way but also just getting on board with the mo Bowling Club like I think that’s that’s huge it’s the way the only way our
Industry can grow is if organizations work together and you guys are showing that hand inand there at icher I reckon yeah look I must say the Mya Bowling Club have been a long-term sponsor and supporter of uh the auka harness racing Club so uh pride of me
Becoming involved the my Bowling Club um yeah that that they’ve been on board for a number of years and and look I’ve got a really good Rel even though I’m the CEO at Rich River and obviously I’m loyal to Rich River uh I’ve got a really good relationship with some of the key
You know the CEO and the operations manager some of the key guys at my Bowling Club um look they do they do a fantastic job we like to think that we do a good job here at Rich River but um you know I know for a fact there’s lots
Of great work that the mo Bowling Club do in our local community and um you know the uh as I said previously a cha MO is thriving it’s growing and um you know the region is more than big enough to support you know three strong clubs
That we have in Mo and that’s the Bowling Club Rich River Golf Club and the mo RSL so even though we compete against each other um there still a healthy respect and there is an overall attitude that we want to try to work together to try to promote the region
And the community and um you know I must say I’m I’m very very um you know uh supportive and complimentary of the great job that my Bowling Club do and uh even though the atuka harness racing Club we’ve got yeah both the mo Bowling Club and Rich River Golf Club on board
Uh and both clubs are very good but um yeah I’ve got no problems whatsoever in in uh taking my hat off and and supporting the mo Bowling Club at at any opportunity they they do a fantastic job uh for our community and they run a
Great Club I should do a show one day of some of your Fondest Memories because uh I can remember being a kid and back in the day uh because of they were Pokey venue and and the likes um myself and Grant were underage I think I must have
Been 16 16 maybe 17 and Grant was um well 3 years younger than me so they used to open up an area downstairs so we could go down with Mar Mary Keo and the Pelos and everyone else like that and to play cards we we learned how to play
Cards the hard way but that was always at the bottom of the mo Bowling Club um and I think they’ve been a sponsor since then so that’s 30 something years ago um probably more so yeah I think uh yeah it’s just uh I was just thinking about
That when you were saying it I thought I reckon they’ve been a sponsor for a lot longer than people probably think so it’d be interesting to see how long they have been a part of it so yeah yeah yeah now look they’ve definitely been on
Board for a long period of time and and not only they’re very generous you know sponsors of a chica harness racing Club but they they they sponsor so many clubs uh throughout our region you know they’re the major sponsor of um so many football clubs Cricket clubs uh the
Gallops Club locally so um yeah look I’ve got a lot of time for the guys at the moment Bowling Club uh and the great work they do um you know they they really do a lot of good work out there for the community and and they run a
Really good operation and a really good club and you know W on to them no absolutely you’ve got a Ripp and field Shane you’d be happy with the field uh the ratings have changed on that I think from last year it’s now a 70 to 100
Rated race um you got horses in terrific form going through their Glade grades all the r won the gumbar cup the other day so it’s a real good field and plenty plenty of local interest if you like as well yeah look we’re really pleased with
The whole meeting uh Paul as well as you know having a you know a very good even pacing cup and a good even TRS cup field where we’re really um we’re really happy with the support program we’ve got nine races um virtually capacity fields in all of
Them and um you know it’s going to be a great night of harness racing at the end of the day we uh you know we we know who we are we’re at Grassroots club uh we like we like to support grass Grassroots harness racing and uh we understand that
You know we’re the type of venue that attracts you know horses that are starting out and um you know a lot of the you know the Lesser type of horses that are trying to make their way uh their way through and um you need to have uh clubs like us that are healthy
That are that are doing that as part of their role for the industry so yeah we’re really pleased with the fields we think that um there’ll be a good crowd out there as there normally is on Monday and you know as well as great racing we’ve got great entertainment on track
We’ve got a water slide for the kids we’ve got um you know a jumping castle for the kids there’ll be plenty there to keep the kids entertained and we’ve got a great band on course so there’s a 70s and 80s band The Sensational 70s and 80s
That are all the way up from Mel from Melbourne they uh they played on course last year and they were a big hit so we’ve got them back this year so got no doubt that every anyone who uh who gets along to Frank Ryan Raceway next Monday
Night um they’ll have a a great night and it’ll be a great night of harness racing for theuk cup no will indeed mate and your spot on we need T turnover good Fields 12 field so Shane thank you so seems a little bit windy to be tun off
Right at the minute out there too is it h it’s a little bit windy mate it’s not too bad but yeah I’m out of here on the practice putting green at the moment so we’ve got uh yeah we we got lots of people in and around so uh yeah in and
Around the club so I just had to kind of come out here where I could avoid some of the background noise um yeah a little bit windy but um but uh yeah no overall uh overall not too bad no thank you mate thank you very much for joining me and

Yeah that’s yeah Harry is sort of the normal name everyone calls me very good I um I just I saw that and I didn’t want to uh be disrespectful but I just knew on Facebook your uh your post was was Harry um mate welcome thank you very yeah
No and thank you very much for joining me um I want to catch catch up with you um basically after BST on boxing night uh Tuesday the 26 uh four drives four wins for starters mate congratulations yeah no thanks for having mate yeah thanks for that um did
You go to the races expecting to get four winners oh I sort of went there they all sort of yeah all sort of in the right races but they had a few tricky draws and I sort of thought I’d be happy if I could come over one or two
Um I I I gather that’s the first time you’ve driven four yeah I’ve driven three yeah not four yeah oh you have driven so you’ve driven three before yeah wow only two weeks ago before that actually at gold right so you well you’re having a bit of
A run then because you’ve driven 35 winners in your career um and seven seven of those have come in the last couple of weeks yeah no star to get a good crack at it now yeah a little bit about yourself mate before we find out um you
Like where you are currently are in that but um Ross is a name in harness racing but you you were saying to me de when I spoke to you off here that you’re not from uh the rosers that everyone else knows in the industry yeah no actually
No no relation at all a few people actually think that but no no relation have you any family history in harness racing or how did you come to get into it no my family sort of involved with gallopers Y and just from going out to the Galls track I so just got interest
In then I just met a few boys like Sam H used to work out out there and he said why didn’t come out to the trots and give us a hand out there and that’s how I got on for the he plan so so you’re giper who’s come over to the trotton
Clean that’s that’s a big effort yeah usually that way around well well it is like how long ago did that happen mate like you’re 19 years of age I think now yeah probably two years ago now so oh yeah probably yeah two and a half years ago two two
And a half three years ago um and you’ve only been driving for two two years you must have just really really enjoyed it did you and jumped straight in yeah yeah really enjoyed it they sort of taught me a lot and them opportunity come to go
Over work for Ben there for about six months um went over there and learn a lot and then all the right time to come back here and yeah crack at it so you took the took the move to tazy was that basically to try and get a few drives
And get a start mate yeah that I had my first ever Race drive just yeah learn a bit more and just trying and get a few start out there there’s plenty of horses there to you know have a crack on and yeah I was just driving no hope is just thing with experience
Going around each each race uh and they guided you been been explain to you what you were doing yeah he taught me a lot and then yeah it sort of come towards the end um to go our separate ways yeah but I get you you’re you’re you’re more than happy and I suppose
It’s one of those things that that does happen you worked for Brad hu now did you come back straight and go working for Brad yeah I was always pretty Keen to come straight back home I sort of get bit homesick but just went over there for a bit of experience yep and yeah
Comes straight back to Brad and yeah he took me straight in how long you been back with Brad i’ probably been back here 12 8 months now yep yep and just slowly picking the drives up yeah probably it took me good six to 12 months slowly just to get back in and
Now the last six months i’ really starting to take off yeah um what what’s it what is it like for a person on the outside like you said that you went to tazzy and you got homesick you come home you know you’ve got mates with the HS and you know I
Think it’s one of those families in um New South Wales that when your mates with them you’ve got a lot of mates because they’re a big family but what what is it like as an outsider do you did you find you got a little bit lost
Um from time to time or did you find that the the participants just helped and guided you through you know the whole journey yeah no I was sort over I was just around yeah great bunch of people over there and yeah I was I was pretty
Well looked after over there no no I mean when you came back like I mean like like yeah did did you find once you got back that they just basically everyone is helping and pushing in the right direction yeah they all sort of yeah brought me back in and they were pretty
Keen to try and get me on their horse as soon as possible try and get me a go yeah which which is great isn’t it yeah no it’s definitely no they been a big help to me yeah um as you like a look did you have goals did you win your
First race did you um was that sort of the start of it or did you have other goals to go on forward yeah no no real goals so yeah try just try and break in back here in New South Wales yep um what who was your first winner
On first winner was actually Missy from BR the camber they one so you didn’t get a winner in tazy oh yeah that was back here in tazzy yeah I got one winner for chrisy Butler Junior dri race actually yep very very good so but the predominantly the most of them are being
Back here in New sou Wes yeah yeah Y and and Brad’s going terrific you in go when how many horses has Brad got him work now CAU up with Brad i’ be probably two years ago now unfortunately time flies but um he he he had a t a team and it
Was getting bigger and bigger how is he working now yeah roughly about 28 to 30 probably a good number we can handle he’s going great then yeah now he’s yeah got the team fine at the moment yeah don’t tell him I said that but he is going he is going he’s going terrific
You didn’t actually have a drive for him the other night either but Scott is Scott his brother yeah no Scott’s his brother and he s puts me on when when he can yeah which which is good I think you got two you had the rest with for NE day
So is that just through your Association there at the Goldman harness racing Club yeah just a g yeah Neil’s been pretty big help to me and they’re all sort of they’re all related they all yeah big help to me you I was going to say you probably don’t appreciate the uh the
History of some of those names that you’re rattling off there and uh the sort of almost royalty there are in you know that that uh I’m going to get into trouble because I don’t think goldin’s part of the River Arena but that area right through there right through to the
Rivera if you like uh you know some of those names were rattling off mate they’re harness racing royalty yeah now you probably are spot on there Paul a lot of people tell me how legendary some of these names are but I probably taking a bit for granted
But um yeah it’s great to be able to get a few winners for him yeah I know it is indeed in your days always had a high quality horse um the hu’s um and as I said there the job Brad’s doing at the minute he’s he’s just keeps unearthing
Really nice horses his horses are tough they stay um and Brad’s not scared to put him in the race he doesn’t care who’s in front or that so that must instill you with a bit of confidence when the boss is out there doing those sorts of things as well yeah no
Everything he takes the race when he taking it there if he doesn’t think he can win no no and he drives him with some confidence he’s even getting a Trotter or two where is his Trotter mate yeah put in put her in the padic there for about a month or so just because
He’s going to take his into dominion and decided not to but she’s actually proba been back in work for the last yeah two weeks I’d say yep very very good I like his little troter so um do you have any goals at the minute mate uh no real set goals i’ just like
To try and drive 50 winners next season and maybe yeah get me first at night winner yep have you had many cracks in at M man angle I only probably got my a grade license probably a month ago probably had three or four drives best I
Got was a third yep how’ you enjoy how’ you enjoy going to the Big Smoke yeah no it’s definitely different experiences yeah it’s good experience I’d like to head back down there a few more times if I can it’s a it is a different experience it’s a big track isn’t it
Over the back straight you can get lost a bit it’s a long way from nowhere yeah no I think the first drive I’ve out there might have pulled out a bit too early I just counted how long the stke was oh yeah one of the best cam Hart
Tells me you can’t pull out around that home turn and I think he’s right because I keep watching him and uh he keeps driving winners so I reckon he might be on to on something there mate you’re driving at pen tonight one I don’t I don’t we’re not worried about tips but

Pretty happy with it yep how many Sam train mate I think the Sam’s got about 14 probably six or seven race one he’s got about yeah seven six or seven breakers yep y all right that’s might have to when I go traveling through Goldwin I might have to go there
Um going from there bloody good pickup for the harness fantasy teams Clinton main I’m not sure what that’s about do you know what that’s about Harrison or not pdon do you know what uh anything about the harness fantasy teams is about is that something that’s going on in New
South Wales or yeah I know a little bit B I don’t really f it too much but yeah they’re going on wild like what they do on the foot B right obviously one of the Mad victorians is playing in it anyway so he’s giving me half a tease teas out

President at secretary at the wurn harness racing club and um Christmas Eve here in central Victoria uh for some well for some it was worse than others but um it was pretty extreme weather um I think we got 50 mil and as a crow fliers what would we be 30k aways Tom
Would be maybe 40 maybe 40 in the straight line at the most and and how much did you guys get on Christmas Eve well it varied with the post office we tipped out 155 uh the Charlton Charlton side of town they tipped out 170 odd we tipped
Out 135 here outside and uh there probably 50 all never went in the G they’re extraordinary figures what was it like like obviously um actually you may not have been fed up I mean it it sort of came at that late evening didn’t it like 4:30 I tell you when it came
Because Michelle was just getting home from work from nursing and she was at the front in the Ute and she sat in the E for 10 minutes cuz she couldn’t get in cuz it was H and H and I was just por s
You and we were on the r to in the car it would have been the best best 10 minutes of your lifetime it was good mate I enjoy it um that like were you as worried like did you think that there would be flooding or like we I know that might
Sound silly but sometimes especially people in New Zealand might not they they get that every day but it’s it’s not what you expect here um in summertime even an inch in summertime is just extreme here in Australia in central tour is it well Bruce Tarra was saying erans was back in
1974 the erans was around Christmas time that was probably the last time the footy ground went under wow and so because I was swimming in swimming then in those days back in 1974 and he reckons that was around Christmas time so but yeah it was like they said we

Because you won’t be racing on it for a while but the base would still be okay I oh no it’s cut into the base as well it’s it’s made a real some of the spot on those those photos I sent you in the midd of the video it’s down 10 and 12 in
Wow it is it’s a and it’s all that’s going out onto the football ground but um yeah it’s it’s a horrible mess and we had one probably 3 weeks before that where they’ve done put the new Pavilion in they’ve mucked around with a lot
Putting the car park in and we had a oh probably 30 40 mil real quick and it’s just washed the whole hill off and down where at the top of the streke where the starts are it’s just taken out probably about 20 met of the track there
So or old um Tom Mark came out and had a look the other week and um he thought that was bad but he hadn’t been up to see this lot yet so he might he might not want to oh it’s I don’t know whether Bruce might have sent him some photos I
Think you shouldn’t you shouldn’t do those things when you’re waiting on some people to come yeah I S b a couple of photos he’s replied to me so that’s good how’s the um Pavilion going mate it’s all but finished yep okay inside’s all but done and but they can’t can’t get a
Ticket until the car Parks finished and the few showers we had in wet weather and yeah the car park probably been 3 weeks four week four weeks be now so because your cup meeting on the 28th of January is at U Mar I know that cuz I’m
Going mcing that one but that’s um so was that a late change no no that we sat down in October and worked that out with a sh they said well we can nearly have the building ready for you but there’s that much earth works and Landscaping to
Do that that that wouldn’t have been done so which is now now a blessing yeah yeah because it’s no good having a building half finished and you can’t walk outside it so no yeah no no no so when will you be racing next no we won’t
Race now we sort of half hum out about March but we’ve even decided there that we that of more three weeks ago we said we might as Let It Go a whole lot this year and we’ll go to marabar again yep and then and start have a big desar
Going to back us for the January next year for the cup so away we go the new Pavilion yeah we’ll have a half a new track all right right to thank you uh hopefully the new year is a little bit quieter I don’t think there’s that much
Rain on the for radar for a while uh and in all seriousness I do hope everyone was safe there with that sort of rain and um people may not be aware of the uh the country but some parts of it are hilan some parts of it are very very
Flat so I’d imagine some of them just had water sitting there for days on end I would imagine yeah well it took took nearly two days for the all the water to disappear off the footy ground so and yeah so that’s how we’ve just really got into cleaning everything up there so as
I called the red backs I’m tipping they would have even been washed away the poor little things no I think they a lot of them gone there and don’t forget don’t forget we got bought on next Friday oh yeah definitely and that’s nor Oasis meeting that’s a northern Oasis
Meeting so yeah and the cup meeting is March the is it March the 3D I think it is Sunday March the 3 okay I can tell you now I won’t be available for that one either Tom just give you the heads up on that one so yeah I’ll be at Sydney
I think um I had the oh actually no I but not say that I might be available Sydney’s on the 9th and 10th of March so uh yeah I may be available for I better check that’ll be good check me I might have told the past president
The other day that he doesn’t listen to me but um maybe I better retract that one so yeah and I mean that John Campbell has stepped down as president too so I am going to catch up with him probably tomorrow chat so 18 years yeah yeah so
There’s plenty going on there at wo mate yeah no worries mate um just out of curiosity though the most important question is the street sign next door to your house still standing and does it have the barb wire around it no no it it got it disappeared not long probably 12
Months ago what the sign yeah we’ve got a new one up now there’s a big ceramic one that hangs off fence what’s it called a big tit wobbles line I’ll have to send a fot of it to you what a great name it’s about it’s
About 4 foot long and about 18 in deep and it’s tick rber Lane that’s attached to our fence so and they want to take this one they got to take half our fence with it while you’re on because no one will believe me but last time I I saw
That sign it had barb wire wrapped around it so no one would climb up and pinch it true true so true yeah they took the whole Pole this time they cut the P off and took the whole lot I got no idea what they’d be doing
With a sign like that but yeah old T tip wobble roads it’s one of the great street names you didn’t name it either did you Tom I know nothing to do with you all right nothing to do with me right thank you all the best for wurn I’ll get up there
And have a um a look when I get five minutes next I’ll come up and have a look at the new Pavilion and um get the word out there because you won’t be racing for 12 months so I’ll make sure I call up there maybe on the way through

There’s a hill behind the stables in the grand stand kind of kind of a similar not in looks but in the way that it’s set up to Kora with a hill up the back and um you’ve got wide open farming space down the back street and things
Like that so it’s a beautiful track and being only about 20 minutes drive from Christ CHS they get massive crowds out there it’s supposed to be stinking hot tomorrow even for New Zealand standards so um yeah and I tell you what if you want to have a bit there good luck um
Your friend best friend should be the word easy bet should be what easy bet the word easy bet the one where the computer selects it for you because they don’t call that place the punter’s graveyard for nothing but I tell you what it’s even worse tomorrow they are some big

About $3 on the new Zeal tab so anything around that I reckon is pretty good shopping it looks the best of good things tomorrow out at the mop one to uh Andrew Fitzgerald’s actually driving in that race what’s the irony of that um there is 18 horses in that field with
Four scratchings um already so uh 14 Junior drivers going around which is terrific John McDermot as I said he was on there before do you give his horse topz with Andrew Drake in the suy do you give him a chance well John seems absolutely flowing at the moment he’s got a few
That he’s been racing over at uh Westport over the last couple of days and heading to rton on Saturday for the last day there topaz is actually a really nice horse and it is the sort of horse that could pop up on a race like that John’s team traditionally goes well
Out at the mot and I know the family will be pretty happy to see that I know Morris is tuned in so uh it gets its chance actually because the form line probably doesn’t look that good but the runs have actually been really really good so wouldn’t be surprised to see it
Popping up uh for maybe even a top four or something like that he’s also got flya away with Devon vantil um in the Suki there as well so he’s got quite a few he’s he’s taking on a new job he’s keeping the planes in order he’s making
Sure the planes all land in the right spots and um must be must be you know keeping the team happy as well yeah well it’s certainly keeping the racing team going because he’s got plenty of horses going around at the moment I think he’s two or three over at the coast and team
In there tomorrow so uh he’ll pick up a winner at some point before the end of the year he’s got a couple of nice ones going to reach them on Saturday it’s um a big meeting two what do you got 12 races 13 R 12 races all full fied it’s I
Encourage you Aussies on harness racing New Zealand or hrnz and just go to the fields it’s unbelievable the depth in the fields at the minute M isn’t it it is and you know to see that they are massive Fields there tomorrow but we’ve also got a large portion of horses
Currently over on the other side of the south island and on the west coast as I said and there are a number of trainers who already have big teams based down in central otaro yeah that’s so I mean there’s uput of maybe 30 canbury horses
Down there as well at at the moment so uh it just shows the depth and numbers we’ve got at the moment that we can get these fields off the ground because in two days time there’s racing again in canbury at rang so uh it’s a busy old time but there certainly the horses
Dedicated for the meeting that’s for sure um throw you under the bus the Regan Todd trained Shar a dream informed driver in Sarah O’Reilly and we’ll touch on that in a sec Graham hand um has tipped it on the show is do you give him
A chance well you got to you got to respect anything that s Ry drives on the grass track over here in New Zealand she’s coming in towards the final stages of her time as a junior driver I think she’ll drive tomorrow and then at Reon
At Sunday and then when she steps out at rora on New Year’s Day she will be a fully fledged open horsewoman so she’ll be hoping she can go out with a bang and I mean everything that she’s done so far in her Junior driver career would suggest that she will do exactly that
And get a winner at some point over the next couple of days sh dream was a very good troll winner recently actually so I’d have to agree with G Graham there does meet what I think is a pretty even um and handy field of Maidens though so
Might need a little bit of luck off the second line always got to be careful I do because um I met Graham and I was only told to call him Porky so that’s what I do it’s a bit like Goose um some of the names you got to check yourself
All the time you got to show respect but you just get yourself caught up sometimes Maddie oh you do you got to be a way bit careful um because then there’s the names that you can’t really say in public and if you say them you’re in big
Trouble I know and uh Emily’s watching I don’t even know what she’s thinking she probably doesn’t even know what she’s thinking she’s probably thinking this could be dangerous cuz Maddie could be drinking I haven’t even got the Johny yet so everyone goes in there uh ockland
Throw you under the bus again I love doing it to you but two good races um coming up the races seven and um eight um better fields too which is good for ockland but um Auda steps out for the first time on the North Island for a
Period of time but it’s a good race yeah it does and you’ve obviously got the uh the three-year-old although and about 3 days time he’ll be a four-year-old and don’t stop dreaming so that adds another aspect to the race look uh Cuda was so good during cutw week two very good
Seconds and two group ones won’t be easy he’s got a 30 m handicap um and over like the 27 probably helps negate that a away bit but if don’t stop treaming was to step away for Tony H here and get in front of him it could be pretty
Interesting so looking forward to seeing them go around and yeah you’re right you’ve got a $5,000 trotting final the hot to trot final for the Trotters which will be a big race as well I think there’s 1700 horses going around there but you know that my loyalties in that

With the result in the group one out of a Caro and uh yeah the drive from s Roy yeah I just about to go a lifetime best driver was just absolutely Sensational technically uh she made self assur work just that fraction to take the gas out
Of him and then she nailed him up the passing Lane it was it was a cracking race and cracking result and yeah every all the main chances ran well there was no disappointments it was just a a great celebration of harness racing in inago and long may this group one continue
Only the second running of this race group one status and long may they keep uh lining it up as a group one because uh has had uh great support as far as uh the punters the interest and the people turning up go um not big horse numbers
In either year but uh We’ve made the best of it two cracking races so yeah looking forward to the next one yeah and it does get the good horses there because um like American me contested the um Timmy white still waiting on his 10% it’s quite funny that but anyway

Premiership so that’s a provincial boundary with theago so he was leading trainer in South and Phil Williamson leading trainer in atigo uh Phil absolutely bolted in his uh his category because he was way out in front but Nathan and Craig Ferguson were closely matched last month or so and Nathan’s
Had a great run of results over the last month and that put him in front I know he got a little bit of stick uh over the last say six weeks or so the fact that he was going to come up short and I think that was a driving Factor because
He’s come out and produced you know big lineup of winners and I’m pretty sure he was very satisfied even though he probably wasn’t saying too much about it yeah I I I agree and I think he’d be very satisfied getting this horse back to the races as well it’s a $225,000 g
Cup might you know some of the Australians might think oh it’s just another country cup but I think you know Nathan’s got a lot of hopes with this little horse and he’s had a few issues and to get him back um and winning and winning very impressive he done plenty
Of work at the business end of the race and um it was very very impressive so I reckon it would have meant a bit to him as well just getting him back that’s still right and fresh up too off 30 m it was a a track that had five
Track records broken on the day and it was running hot and nothing was really making ground from the back so to win off 30 m was uh and track record time was phenomenal as far as I’m concern yep no Absol absolutely um I’m pretty sure is this
The same day Rory one you reckon I’d have all me Pages open same day dwindle star for the Williamson team for Williamson trained be Williamson owned he’s had a lot to do with the family and 200 wins for the great man and I can tell you he’s multi-talented this BL
Because he’s just started up a business you would have seen uh doing the chiropractor sort of massage sort of carry on and apparently he’s in hot demand he’s he’s gone through like an apprenticeship type thing and uh learned the ropes and now he’s sort of gs’s magic you know ironing out the any
Sort of back issues or soreness issues so uh he can do it all R and he raided that horse in front to a real treat and uh and won nicely he’s uh I’m right inane he’s one of the great characters of the industry the first time I ever
Interviewed him um I wasn’t sure if Timmy Williams and uh Zack butcher was setting me up they said oh you got to go and interview Rory Rory would be great you go and interview Rory and you know like you’re you’re not not sure if they’re hazing you or something along it
Was sort of they were too positive that I needed to go and do the interview with him Johnny I was a bit nervous to be honest but wow what a just a cracking individual just so raw and open about his journey his struggles and what he loves about the industry he’s just an
Infectious person to be around yeah he’s great man great positive attitude and um doesn’t have any sort of background in harness racing obviously and uh hasn’t had any handed to him in this game and he just keeps kicking Home winners so a lot of respect for Rory he’s definitely got a unique
Approach to things sometimes and uh he’s a yeah he’s just a legend is he do basically Alex hle reckons he should be chiropractice sword on sword of carry on uh that should be the name of his uh his his business um I think it’s terrific I wanted to where I got myself into
Trouble I ended up pushing buttons everywhere Johnny because I wanted to um I’m going to to go down just one stride two because uh the Williamson name is synonymous down there but dwindle star night watch she’s a gift Al Poncho Gordon and all for the williamsons um
The top five filled with three of those Brad and Maddie as trainers of the others it’s um it’s an amazing name down in the South and what they do for harness racing full stop yeah absolutely couldn’t agree more um and yeah widely know and they’ve done uh their deeds are spread across austral

Up and have a yarn and he’s been a great asset great assistant you’re great friend to me in my time of the game right help me out here uh Wilson house where did he win at was it West was it uh he won Johnny Mack West foot cup not
My territory but did see the race and yeah uh Mickey Mouse uh running uh absolutely white hot with his team Michael house so that’s great to see they’ll get him up and about they had a double I should probably get him on but he he he doesn’t watch me

Well so yeah yeah it’s all happening it was a g like that’s a good what that was a good good oh if I’m only guessing like8 or 10 hours away Gore last night he’s bowling into Westport and driving winners and going well today so what did he do the work what did he
Do the other day uh where did on the North Island um I can’t think of the name of the place uh South repete doesn’t it um but palon is that where he he drove two Tre Pon North that’s where Michael takes a lot of his horses to
Race and they generally W he races up there he won six in a day I think didn’t yeah but it’s a 14 hour drive so the first time he drove a treble and then it’s it’s a 14-hour drive although he flew but it’s a 14-hour drive back to
Rangiora he goes back to rangiora Michael got a winner and so did so did Mana too it is and then gets back and and then turns around and goes back and drives a treble the very next day like that’s massive commitment I know he flew but it’s still just bring it commitment
And I I think it’s great and that’s why you know I I um I enjoy I enjoy their company I think they’re a lot of fun they’re good for the industry um um and it’s good to see them getting the results I reckon you might have

I’d call it the three days yeah uh first meeting is on the 2nd of January uh what have we got no no got 12 races I think 11 races uh along with their C good cup field as well um it’s going to be a lot
Of fun and plenty of people um plenty of people that’s a bit harsh uh Michael’s on 49 um and Emily’s declared that Wilson will beat him to 50 so that’s probably a bit harsh on Michael but anyway uh big fields what do we expect anyone playing at home and that when
They start looking at these three meetings that we’ll be covering in New Zealand what do people expect mate they’ll expect great competitive racing it’s the place to be Ino and South and that’s for sure over those three days of even if you have a mild interest in harness racing or you have
No interest in harness racing you want a great day at head to those three days it’s absolutely outstanding but you the action on the track uh a lot of trainers will set their good or promising horses for these meetings if you know for instance if if a trainer’s got a really
Nice Maiden there’s nothing better than heading up to on the second and letting it loosen hopefully getting uh getting a win because uh a lot of guys will try and do that and set their nice horses so I’m expecting to see a lot of nice horses step out over those three days
And yeah good competitive racing there’s a group race there with the central Targo cup so yeah there’s a bit of bit of everything they’ve got amate to drivers which that could be a new experience for you to watch that first race at so uh yeah it’s got it all where
Would you rather be is the question Emily might be in TR oh he didn’t get a drive in it oh yes he has he’ll get a drive in it cuz he got one in it can sweet Spirit win race 40 race one uh Michael might beat his son to the uh the
Magical 50 mate yet you never know anything’s possible in this game mate Can it can it win uh well it can it can’t well the way the stable’s going it can yeah it can win this for sure because they’re just absolutely flying at the moment it’s a very even field so there’s
No reason it can’t get money it broke a Gore yesterday so that’s the concern very good but anyway that’s race number one for all the Michael house lovers make sure you tune tune in to that um it’s big for the community it’s big for harness racing down there too though
Isn’t it Johnny it is yeah it means a lot and uh these these meetings will do massive turnovers compared to you know some of our quieter meetings through winter and that sort of thing so yeah financially it means a lot and uh the biggest thing overall though is uh is
The fact that we get to put ranus racing in front of the people that just come once a year and we maintain that interest uh with them and we may even convert a few new fans so that that’s that’s vital and we can’t undersell those things since one of the things
That did happen here especially in Victoria we lost a lot of those um authentic places I suppose if you like um and and uh we lost that and you know um Geraldine the other day um you there was some people saying that there was talk just a brilliant place they just
Got there’s so much more to offer than just when you just look at dollars and cents and and what goes on we need to keep a lot of these places don’t we there’s no doubt about that we need to keep in contact with Joe public to make harness racing relevant and um we
Do that through these country type meetings these Community meetings and every time one of them’s wiped out it’s a sad day really it is indeed um poor guys only once a year um what do we say then Graham’s got come in on something but oh maybe the race meeting only once a
Year maybe not sure um M enough M they they make a big deal there once a year I tell you that much oh sometimes he’s exactly right sometimes you can dilute what you actually what you actually do have so Maddie Markham is coming out with the big call because he said that
