Save time and money watching this BEFORE you start playing golf.

What’s up everyone here to save you time and money if you’re starting with golf no time to edit and make this video pretty so I’m just going to give you the information best of luck if you get to take advantage of my mistakes I’m going to give you some tips dispel some myths

But really just talk about the mistakes that I’ve made over the years so that you don’t make them and it’ll make your startup curve that much better as usual crappy videos don’t like don’t subscribe I’m just here to share some information because I feel I owe it to

The community I get a lot out of YouTube and just here to share so let’s get started so a little bit about me I’ve had clubs and I’ve put it around for probably 10 years now in those 10 years I would go out maybe once a month you

Know if someone wanted to go play or go to the range and just goof around so it’s hard to um you know say that I’ve been playing for 10 years because I haven’t now when Co hit is when I really had a chance to see

How bad I was and how much work I needed and how much work it really takes to develop some Proficiency in golf and so the last let’s say the last two years I’ve done more than I did in the whole 10 years that I’ve had a set of clubs

Gathering dust in the garage so let me go through a quick list here and again I think that this list is going to allow you to save a ton of time and money as you get started again this video is for beginners people that haven’t picked up

A club or that are just now getting started into golf I think this is a worthwhile uh list for you to really uh pay attention to uh number one sort of a myth and a bit of a of a tip also is you know golf is expensive you know golf is

Expensive but it’s not not accessible or prohibitive I’ll give you an example my son went to uh Five Guys Burg a chain available here in California I don’t know if they’re National but goes to this chain sort of like an in andout Burger maybe um a little more more formal sort to

Speak as a restaurant so a double cheeseburger a milkshake and large fries comes to $28 no tip $28 for a double cheeseburger a milkshake and fries and so you know I’ve played two days ago for $10 on a beautiful nine-hole course uh part threes and fours um for $10 on a

Um Twilight rate at $28 I can play just about any nice club around um Sacramento just about uh maybe not all of them but you know again $28 uh can be how many balls if I if I go to the r range would be about 300 balls that I could hit at the

Range and so the point that I’m making is is is golf expensive yes but it’s not more expensive than anything else that you get into um you know if I take my wife to the movies it would be let’s say movies and dinner it would be nothing less than 100 bucks

If I go out drinking which I don’t I’m not into the the bar scene but I know that if I went out with my friends and had drinks and let’s say dinner that bill would be around 200 bucks minimum and you I did the math for you

Earlier right so for $200 I could play once a week for an entire month I could play small courses maybe twice a week for for an entire month and definitely lots of range time and so is golf expensive I don’t think it’s any more expensive than than anything else you

Know if you’re into shooting guns and you’re going to the range the price for ammo right now you get the point um so I’ll say that golf is not expensive last analogy I’ll make a good health uh and fitness facility right now nice gym hover around 100 bucks a month you’re

Paying a lot less than that it’s probably not that nice of a facility and so you can do the math starting there also so don’t be afraid of the expense don’t don’t don’t um not get into golf or not try golf because you think it’s expensive really comes down to um how

You prioritize and how you manage uh your your pay budget second this is definitely a myth when you start start you hear a lot of people saying get any club any as you get started just grab any old Club go to Goodwill go to Facebook Marketplace and grab any

Club I don’t like that tip because if you don’t like your Club you’re not going to play you’re not going to practice as much as you would if you actually like your equipment you’re going to look forward to using it and going out and you won’t be something that

You’re thinking about oh you know this club is kind of ugly or just looks weird or it feels weird so don’t get any club get clubs that you like there are so many there are so many options out there look at uh Facebook Marketplace is probably filled with

Options anything that is a game improvement model you know irons with that cavity uh even hybrids are going to help you uh you know I’m thinking of the uh Callaway Edge that costal cells the the Ping um the G Class I believe they’re all game improve Improvement clubs and

They’re going to be great and anything from the early 2000s up to now is good technology and so look that way for clubs that you like uh lessons that’s my next one on the list definitely take lessons to get started but don’t forget that getting out and playing is is

Really what’s going to get you better so yes take lessons get the basics down uh but after that think of this as learning to play the piano you are not going to get better if you’re playing the piano once a month or once a week it’s it’s really

Time to get to work and really develop that muscle memory and hand eye cordination with what you’re trying to do uh I want to highlight a uh YouTube channel uh that is uh put together by Paul Wilson he has probably one of the best explanations of how to get your body into the

Swing and that is so critical I would say Wilson’s channel has changed my uh golfing approach in the last year or two and um night and day Improvement uh and and uh mental outlook on how to hit the ball so Paul Wilson highly recommend it

I will take some lessons from uh him or his school out in Las Vegas at some point when I have the chance but um if you’re getting started and you can tell when someone’s getting started with with golf because they are all they are all

Arms it’s this and this and this and you can just tell and so Paul Wilson get to it get to his channel my next tip uh I got this from a uh really a high level uh youth coach uh here in Sacramento where he starts his kids playing an entire course but every

Hole only 20 yards out so they walk up to where they’re about 20 yards out and they play from there and as they get better they start moving back for each hole um wow I wish I would have known this I would say for an adult 20 might be

Short see what club you’re hitting at about a 100 yards and go play courses walk up to about a 100 yards out from the flag and just play that way and as you get more comfortable start moving your way back up to to driver uh driver is

The hardest uh Club to hit and that one’s just going to take uh some work and uh experience and so work your way back that way 100 out I again um I wish uh I wish someone would have told me all of this when I first got

Started um related to that get a GPS app I’m using 18 birdies and this is critical because says as you learn your clubs you should know how much you’re hitting how far you’re hitting every club and your GPS will tell you how far you are from the hole don’t go by your

Eye because you’re going to be wrong just about every time so if you’re walking or writing and you think the hole is 200 yards away the GPS app will tell you that you’re 150 or vice versa trust me on that one use the the app and know how far you’re

Hitting your clubs don’t worry about distance if your seven iron is only 100 yards then that’s what it is is it going straight are you consistent I think that matters more than looking at your teammate and his seven iron goes 170 yards right so don’t worry about that play your game

Develop um progress slowly and um just make sure that you know your yardages that way you can play and be much more effective at improving your score huge tip I wish I wish someone would have really uh talked to me about this one I don’t hear it a lot on the uh

Advice channels that I follow so make sure you’re doing that uh next on my list learn the etiquette learn golf etiquette that goes a long way when you’re out at these uh different clubs uh uh relax no one’s looking at you no one cares what you’re doing and

So don’t have that anxiety in the back of your mind if you’re you know thinking that uh people are looking at you and laughing at your funny swing or or uh staring that you’re not great trust me people are worried about their own swing and their own game even experienced

People that are really good they’re really into their game so don’t be a clown and don’t bring undo attention to yourself and the way to do that is to really understand the etiquette so do some some homework on golf etiquette golf rules it’s pretty simple stuff but

Um can’t tell you this enough just relax relax into your swing and this leads me to one of my last items here is when you’re working on your yardages say at the range right you’re hitting your clubs and you’re understanding how far each one is going don’t lose use

That when you go play so if I know my seven iron goes U 120 when I go play and I see and I’m standing in this no long hole all of a sudden our monkey brain wants to like really really smash that seven maybe I

Can get 150 out of it this hole is huge that will ruin your game because you’re not going to hit it correctly grab the club and if it’s your 120 then you’re going to hit hit it 120 with the same relaxed swing that you did at the range or wherever where you got

Your 120 number from so when you’re playing play easy the same way that you would at the range or anywhere that you’re relaxed don’t try to smash it because it’ll it’ll ruin your game so uh Don’t Go full speed you know if you’re going I don’t know 60% of how fast you

Could actually go keep that through the game and you’re you’ll stay consistent you know a lot of a lot of times I’ve gotten out and and I and I see how far I am and I think okay I really really really got to rip this one and sure enough it doesn’t work

Because that’s not how I practiced that’s not how I got my yardage so play to your yardage use the GPS app and don’t go full force like you’re doing a you know a max out bench press or deadlift or something don’t do that uh okay bonus bonus

Tip Costco is your friend as far as value and saving money goes uh from balls to gloves uh even clubs do your homework on the clubs that they have their Callaway Edge or the entry level for beginners uh type clubs that’s what I use and I and I

Really like them they’ve introduced the Kirkland irons they’re a little more advanced less forgiving there’s other stuff on their website push cards shirts shorts pants a lot of the stuff they sell at Costco may not say that it’s for golf or may not be a golf brand but if you look at their

Tech pants if you look at their casual shorts um you know polos I have found uh Callaway and um Greg Norman shirts at Costco for around 20 bucks you know these shirts at the regular store are 50 607 and so look at Costco for some really great deals and that’s all I have

Thanks for joining um I will try to edit this down if it uh it’s too long and if I don’t get to it then this is what you get 15 minutes of me rambling wow okay hope this helps uh if you have questions put them in the

Comments I’ll try to answer to the best of my knowledge thanks for stopping by be good have fun this game is so addicting it is you’re going to get hooked and it’s a lot of fun a lot of fun okay kids be good
