1. You must wait to be asked to lift it.
2. You must put a marker down (right next to the ball) before you lift it.
3. Do not take it upon yourself to “span it” or move the location to where you assume they want it. Just mark it where it is.
4. The player may ask you to move the mark to the right or left (called spanning).
5. You must not clean your ball!
6. You do not have to hold the ball a specific way, but it’s a good idea to hold it gently.
7. Putting the ball in your pocket could result in a penalty if the mud mysteriously disappears after being in your pocket, so that’s not a great idea.
8. After the player has hit their ball, you must replace your ball on the original spot. Fun fact: you may place it in any direction you’d like (including lining up a line on your ball for your direction of play. But if there was mud on the bottom of your ball when you lifted it, you must replace the ball with mud on the bottom just as it was)
9. In Stroke Play, if you would rather just play first, you may.
10. It’s never a penalty for a player or opponent to remind you to move the marker back (if you had spanned it). That’s “offering assistance “ not “offering advice”and is good golf etiquette.
Which one of the 10 didn’t you know? Comment below.

So does anyone want to mark that to show us how to do that if I put the marker there it’s still in their way so I would move it a club length away or you don’t know what her line is so she says can you mark that so what you can first do
Is just put your marker down first put that down pick up the ball and then then she says oh yeah could you span that now when you just picked up your ball is there anything you’re going to do differently about that anything special anything special check it’s mine
Yeah make sure it’s yours anything else special right now look what she’s doing penalty for cleaning it yes only can clean it on the green or if you’re taking relief under a rule but this isn’t relief on the rule you’re helping somebody else who’s requested it so you cannot kind of
Benefit from it so you can’t clean it so you should not must but should hold it like this so that it’s clear that you’re not cleaning it or you could set it down out of the way if you put it in your pocket it looks like you’re cleaning it
There’s a potential for a penalty there if there was some mud on it right so it’s best to hold it like that so now I’m going to say yeah would you mind expanding it to the right one because I’m going to go this way and then she does
Perfect perfect and now I can make my putt or my chip or whatever I want to Do
