Eddie has a lot of credit in the bank with most of us, and certainly there are some baffling decisions being made currently, but the hope is Eddie will learn from his mistakes – he is still a relatively inexperienced manager when it comes to juggling European football, injuries etc.
However, our game management has been poor this season, and there never seems to be a plan B, we only have one style of plan which is destroying us physically and mentally. Hold on to the ball for pity’s sake. Make the opposition earn the ball
Excellent summary
Do you think Lewis Hall was A Eddie Howe signing or Ashworth seems he dosnt fancy him or as he says he has to do more when he get a chance.🌑⚽️
Playing and insisting of including Trippier is criminal. With this selection policy, we are never going to win a thing ever. Hope how has 500m to spend in Jan. People like Ritchie, and Miggy have no place if we want to move forward.
Maybe Trips isnt handling playing without the captaincy.
We simply cant afford Tripps anymore. Three times a lose tells me we were fooled into thinking he was world class. I grew up with the knowledge if you keep making mistakes you were out of the team? not this guy. I can tell you Craig Tripps will cost Eddie his job at this rate the doubts have crept in and are starting to be aired in pubs and work places across the region, our savior just might have no fine clothes after all.
Craig : What’s your take on the ‘Ashworth to Old Trafford’ stories ?
To have Ritchie ahead of Hall for that left midfield spot, in a game where we needed to defend but also more technical skills to gain control, makes no sense to me. Hall also has a good burst of pace, would have helped on the counter.
There’s either something amiss with him which only Howe is privy to at the training ground or Howe is making an incredibly poor decision. Either way I find it incredibly frustrating, as I thought he was a brilliant signing after seeing him play a fair amount last season.
It’s not just tonight, he should have been rotated with Burn / made more sub appearances from the beginning of the season, but he’s NEVER had a proper look in.
PS This is no slight on the service Ritchie has given us over the years.
We cant take anymoŕe Trippier cock ups . They are every game now. Best way to avoid them is not to play him . He has become a liability .
No coincidence that these Trips mistakes have happened since Pope got injured
Well done Craig. I've never heard you so wound up – don't think you took a breath!
This was a painful loss. Such a shame. What will it take for Eddie to pull Tripps out the firing line? Will stick by Eddie.. but puzzled about 2nd half. We didn't string any passes together…
Can't really see us getting three points at Luton.
Craig, has anyone asked Eddie if he ‘wants’ Hall at club next year? He’s said Hall has got a lot of potential but not that he wants him at the club. An unused sub it’s cost us here, EH clearly didn’t want Tripps to play tonight and Krafth injury should have led to Tino RB and Hall LB if he has any faith at all in Hall. He clearly doesn’t.
That was defensive master class for Eddie Howe side. I'm afraid 2 games a week first half season with squad not big enough for Champions league against Chelsea team playing 1 game a week. They could freshen it up with 5 subs. Long ago you win footy matches with 11 players playing 90 mins every week. Next 2 transfer windows and we build stronger squad we can then come back stronger. Now we only have league and FA Cup we will have much stronger 2nd hals of season from mid January onwards. We are still super duper stretched and running on empty gas cylinders. Note Caicedo was Red card. That was proper dirty. Gordon might be more injured than we think after that horror challenge.
How the hell has Trippier gone from one of our best players to Harry McGuire in such a short time ?
He should not have taken a penalty. You walk up to the spot, head high, shoulders back, place the ball and get straight on with it. He slowly walked like a condemned man to the gallows with his head down and took and eternity from there on. I’m surprised he didn’t ask for the last rights before the ref blew the whistle. We all knew he was going to miss.
He’s been fantastic for us all season. However one bad mistake, you look the other way. Two? Same… Three? You then start raise an eyebrow. Four? He’s dropped so you don’t have a 5th. He needs to get his confidence back so I would drop him. I know we’re threadbare but he needs a rest. I feel gutted for him.
I didn’t want CL footie this season i wanted us to push for the league and domestic cups. Hey ho…
trippier has obviously got some shit going on off the field . he's also physically and mentally knackered. if we weren't so depleted he would surely have a couple of games off by now but with burns botman and hall looking available maybe now Is the time
Trippier destroys everything
He is like England-in critical moments they lose and destroy everything
Trippier destroyed two critical matches in PL which will bring Newcastle at the end of the season on 9th!
Then the Milan disaster!
He did not play against Fulham and Newcastle won.
Now yesterday the next unacceptable League 1 reaction.
And the penalty!!!
What a shame
What a disgrace
What a disaster
He is the Captain-actually Bruno is the Captain!!!
And also the football style from Minute 10 is also Championship style like Sheffield United
Eddie Howe and his captain Trippier are finish at Newcastle
Eddie Howe will never ever win a Trophy for Newcastle
Trippier destroys his Boss
At the Summer the Godfather has to come
MOURINHO!!!
He is the perfect one for Newcastle!!!
Eddie Howe and Trippier do not have a future at Newcastle
The Newcastle Community-family and Region wants Titles and Trophies.
This is now Newcastle United, which has money.
And an amazing World Class Family with the St.James Park of 80000 in near future.
Therefore a club like this needs a manager and boss like this
Therefore only
Mourinho-the comrade and friend of Sir Bobby Robson!!!
Will control midfield when we can bring on fresh legs who are midfielders. A fresh Tonali, Willock, Joelinton coming on would help control closing stages. Not to mention an Isak Barnes or Murphy to give oposition something fresh to push them back
We could blame any 4 players who didnt close the ball down before the cross came in. We win as a team and lose as a team. We were unlucky on both times we sat back and defended the lead. We learn by our mistakes and move on.
Matt Ritchie should be nowhere near the team, he is dreadful.
I don’t quite get the rhetoric of not being able to criticise Trippier, he is paid an awful lot of money and that’s 5 BIG mistakes now. It shouldn’t be personal and we should predominantly look forward but we should also be allowed to say if a performance isn’t good enough.
Livramento hasn’t put a foot wrong since coming in and for me he is first choice right back, if not quite this season but next season
Great analysis Craig, agree with the lack of control in away games, especially second half. I think its just as much the lack of fresh legs up front/wide than in midfield, Miggy, Wilson & Ritchie couldn't hold on to the ball. We all love Tripps but maybe we need to start Tino in tough away games, he's looking much stronger defensively.
Everytime I see a game like this my mind goes to David Batty and how we need a player like him. Are there any about?
Trippier exemplifies NUFCs season. He’s excellent at home and quite frankly abysmal, away from home. It’s not just a few recent mistakes, go back and watch some of the away games, he is routinely a 5 out of 10, no way is he player of the season so far, not even in the conversation. He should be dropped and we should play Tino in his best position. And FFS give Hall a chance or our season is dead by Christmas.
Didn’t trips come home from England games early. Maybe personal issues ?
They brought on £170m of forwards and we brought on Matt Richie
Horrible Chelsea. Sterling booked for diving. Gallagher should have been booked for diving. Then he got a yellow so he should have been sent half. There lad rolling around holding his face when he wasn’t touched. Shit houses.
Longstaff is terrible I don't see what people see in him never do anything good with him in the team.. tripper needs a few games off, howe has got to go! I'm sick of his tactics.
We will NEVER win anything with is this ultra high intensity / high press playing style. It's the elephant in the room. Players are being run into the ground and is why we have more injuries than any other Prem team. The fatigue rolls from match to match resulting in injury. Players simply cannot recover between games. Has Eddie Howe taken Newcastle as far as he can? Maybe. If we manage to qualify for Europe we will have exactly the same problems next season unless we change our playing style. We need to run less and keep the ball more.
I sometimes think Ruud Gullit was right about the curse….. and also think some of our fans went over the top with the abuse they were giving to Chelsea players from what I could see on the tv , that only fires them up ! And to my way of thinking that’s unhelpful.. sorry if that’s an unpopular line of thought !.
Gutted as these lads are giving it all. I do think & maybe a strange one this, but during the added on time Miggy got through & took a shot. For me need to be a bit clever here, angle wasn’t on his side, so why not win a corner? Take pressure off & run down the clock. We should be a bit more clued up & clueless…..just a thought, still proud of lads effort & equally gutted
Ever since tripps got sent home from England he doesn’t seem to be himself,I hope the fans stick with him as he has been one of our best signings, this season the wheels has come off so much to look forward to but the injuries has finally taken over,we need to just get the Xmas period over with then regroup when all the players are back
The rumour going around is that Trippier has once again been caught cheating on his wife. If true it would explain why his mind is not on football.
The 11 players Newcastle ended that game with would’ve probably cost around the same as Chelsea’s bench & yet they were a minute away from the semi finals only for a catastrophic individual error by Trippier that has cost them. We need some perspective here, they’ve been running on empty for weeks against top top sides & still been highly competitive & very unlucky. That’s before you even mention probably the worst injury crisis in the clubs history. Football can be a cruel cruel game sometimes & it was last night.
M.O.M for Chelsea was the ref.
2 reds on Kraft and Flash.
Who then subed due to injuries.
Trippier should be rested for weeks been poor since returning from England camp for personal reasons.
3 stars Lascelles 2 Kraft, 1 Bruno.
Tactics poor from Eddie.
Subs poor from Eddie.
As soon as I saw that Ritchie was going to take s half a mile run up to his penalty I knew that he was going to miss.
I love tripper but that was ridiculous and frustrating to the extreme.
Craig, We have to start looking at Howe due to the huge stakes involved at Newcastle Utd these days.
We have a different kind of pressure to succeed now with massive amounts of money having to be generated so this club can grow and go!
The money has to keep rolling in via sponsors etc so we have to be doing well in every competition or we are in trouble with FFP for example.
Newcastle cannot afford to have a former backs against the wall manager at the club with the hope he can learn on the job!
Our season is in danger of going off the cliff here with Christmas just around the corner.
We are out of two competitions already with a crucial FA Cup game against our nearest rivals on the horizon.
Howe has made a lot of mistakes going back into the summer where recruitment was poor and also not looking at our existing squad to move players on.
He wanted to keep everyone despite there being clear signs that the current incarnation had performed at the best it was ever going to and needed surgery.
Situations like the striking problem with two injury prone players in Wilson/Isak not being addressed predictably coming back to bite us!
Almiron had a purple patch at the start of last season but regressed to his old self after Xmas, would it not have been a good idea to cash in on him given his age rather than ASM for instance?
He's pushing 30 and there was interest there for him, we have now blown any chance of making some kind of return on him!
Wilson is the same age bracket scoring 18 goals last season, we should have looked to move him on given his injury record which again has come back to haunt us when it was easily avoidable!
A good striker when fit but every season since he joined us spending months on the table being neither use nor ornament.
Howe is too much of a nice guy who is incapable of making the tough decisions required by an elite level operator which is a shame because we all wanted him to succeed.
We cannot just keep saying tough luck Eddie after another failure because it becomes an act of propping up a lame duck.
If PIF were looking at a break down of Eddie's credentials thus far as being the man to take us forward in the long term then it doesn't make for good reading :
Two third round FA Cup exits against lower league opposition
Failure to qualify for the second round of the Champions League
Failure to secure Europa League football finishing rock bottom of the group despite 4 points from the first two games.
Failure to win a Carabao Cup Final against probably one of the worst sides Man Utd has had in years!
This was without a doubt one of the best chances this club had of winning a trophy in years and he couldn't get a performance from his charges on the day, they simply didn't turn up!
Now the worst away record in the league with one win all season.
Destroyed by an 18 year old Ferguson's hattrick at Brighton.
Failure to see out games in winning positions notably against ten man Liverpool despite leading 1-0 with ten minutes to go eventually losing the game!
Poor game management in all recent games culminating in defeats against struggling sides Everton, Bournemouth and another cup exit on penalties after leading 0-1 with a minute to go!
I think people are burying their heads in the sand here because there are worrying signs going back into last season where we limped to CL qualification nearly blowing it against Leicester in the last minute.
We should have at least finished in third place comfortably last season but quite a few points were thrown away at home with failure to break teams down.
I like Eddie Howe but you have to question things here with the new owners and their ambition for the club, has Newcastle Utd outgrown Howe quicker than we expected it would?
What I don't understand is if we really are looking to park the bus in these games why don't we just go all in on it?
A Jose or a Simeone for example would've brought Dummett on on these games as an extra CB to see it out
Can't understand Richie coming on for Hall the guy is a great servant but he can't run anymore! Hall is a winger rather than a fullback anyway such a weird transfer
We need signings in January but we might not get many because of FFP?
Lewis Hall anybody?? What’s going on there?
Yep don't understand why no Hall in this game and tripper needs some time out for whatever reason
1-0 v (10 man) liverpool
1-2 v west ham
1-2 v wolves
0-1 v psg
1-0 v milan
0-1 v (poor) chelsea side
last night is a one off is it?
being passive when being a goal ahead has killed us… elite teams don't do it.
Can understand frustration but baring in mind injuries, tiredness etc. we need to be realistic. It's still relatively early days in our post 7/10/21 revolution and a little patience might be needed. It's not that long ago when QF of the LC was a pipe dream. The club is clearly on the right lines and while away from at the moment is an issue it's the next few years that's the key to our future success, not the next few months. And these owners won't accept 2nd best in the long term. They just won't ! Despite FFP most transfer windows will be used to upgrade the squad and in a way FFP can work in our favour as we need to take more care with incoming transfers and all things considered we've done pretty well in the last 2 years. And with more sponsorship, live games, exposure etc. income will increase and spending opportunities will be enhanced. If we can get through the 3rd round of the FA cup (!!!!) who's to say it'll not be the start of another good cup run. This season still has much to offer but is far from the be all and end all.
And the Lewis Hall situation is slightly disturbing in that he is a good young player and a tremendous prospect. You would have thought Eddie was the ideal person to embrace the overall situation on this one but from his public comments for some reason he appears less enthusiastic than the fans ; it would be good to know what's going on but will Eddie or anyone else at the club reveal anything. Good luck with that one Craig.
But overall there is really no need for despondency in the fan base. Is there another club on the planet advancing at the same rate and with resources to match the forward thinking ambition ? Probably not. And 6 points from the next 2 games isn't out of the question HWTL ✊👍🐫.
20% possession in the second half? We should have been smiling that we only gave up one goal, and had an opportunity to steal the game on pens.
