People talking about Rahm changing his tune and going back on his own words seem to forget that Jay Monahan has since announced he was cosying up with PIF and LIV without any input from the players, leaving many players wondering why they were being loyal to the PGA. That announcement would have changed his thinking a lot and the thinking of many other players. Why would you stay loyal to the PGA if even the PGA isn't staying loyal to the PGA?
I watch both tours, both very different obviously. me personally, I'd rather watch phil mickelson and other household names rather than the likes of Patrick cantlay and will zalatoris etc on the PGA. they just don't move the needle like the bigger names.
Rick, please. Don’t keep banging on about money in the game. You would have far more positive influence in the game if you coached people, but you’re earning a shed load more simply by talking. In no way is that a criticism, because you’re doing what’s best for you.
I do not live on the same planet as these million dollar golfers. I just want to play golf and be able to afford a meal and a drink with friends or family afterwards. If players and tours truly want to grow the game they need to look at ways to make golfing affordable to the average hard working family. And there is an argument to be had that, YouTube golfers have done more for the interest in the game of golf in the last 5 years than the pga has done in the last one hundred plus.
Rick you should approach LIV to do an onsite podcast at each of their events. You could probably do some recording with the teams prior to the event 😊 LIVs only going to get bigger, get on board early buddy!!
About to get really fed up with LIV going after PGA players because they do not have a talent to build their own players. I can see a lot of people stop watching golf all together. I have focused more on playing over the weekend now with no real urgency I use to have to finish and get home to watch PGA.
One thing the LIV players do not know are all the strings attached with that amount of money. Nothing is free.
I know I’m only one person but I will not watch any further coverage of LIV on your channel. Your content is valuable to all of us golfers but LIV has no place here. I respect your position on the need to please the few people who do follow you and like LIV. I will continue to watch everything else you put out since it is always great but anything LIV I must bow out.
I think John Rahm was adamant until Monahan sold them out after being anti-Liv. The only way the PGA is going to protect themselves from other departures will be to get rid of Monahan.
it's not all about Golf in the USA and Europe Rick. Golf is a world game and there are great tournaments in other countries.
Yes Guy up the Red's ❤
In F1 l support 🟠 McLaren because of historic heritage and the reason why l support teams, individuals, events, occasions etc l do…is how l relate towards that specific team, individual interest, events, occasion…
Anything outside that scope for me – l can't be boverd ⛳
Sorry but you guys have been wrong about LIV the whole time. Just admit you’re wrong, have no clue about professional golf and move on. Everyone’s happy 😄
The future of golf is not with the professionals. They’re becoming more and more disenfranchised with the average player. I think the future is in Youtube golfers. Imagine if they started a league. They do it because they love it
Its not that hard, its just like F1, you support the driver then the team their in. Brands will inevitably take over Liv teams Callaway vs TaylorMade etc.
I personally think liv golf is great for the growth of the game as places like Australia were I live get to see top class fields
Liv is boring, I don’t blame them for taking big generational money. He put himself in the public then did the opposite so … doesn’t look great …(if he didn’t take such a hard stance in the first place it wouldn’t matter)…
I’ve never paid less attention to professional golf since LIV started. I used to watch 2 rounds every weekend…. Now majors only.. this malarkey is ruining the entertainment value not helping it…
Sorry but you guys are missing something simply because you are in the UK. The 🇬🇧 and 🇺🇸 fans don't get that when these guys say they want to grow the game and you scoff at them .. I'm not going to say what a specific persons motive is (and OBVIOUSLY money is a huge motive ) but you can't say all comments about growing the game are BS . The best example is that LIV has an event in Australia .. Australians are all HUGELY excited about the Jon Rahm news because it means we'll get a chance to watch him in a cpl months ! Yes there are more people watching PGA tour on tv than LIV .. Liv is just two years old ! But Liv is taking a tour with some of the best golfers to parts of the world that the PGA tour ignores simply bc it isn't profitable for them . UK has the European tour where at least you get Mclroy and usually some pga tour stats. Australia (and other places like Singapore etc ) now rely on LIV to be able to see world clas golf . That's the literal definition of growing the game globally
Being from Australia LIV is the only reason i started playing golf again after about 9 years. Because there was free access on youtube and could see all the big names playing and got myself keen to see if can still do it. There is no acess to this level of golf unless paid for streaming apps.
This year i've since joined back up to a golf club, back off scratch and now paying for kayo so can watch some if the US PGA tour also. This is 100% only because of LIV.
You can't complain teams don't matter when a league is in its infancy . You think man United had any rivalries in their first year of existence ?? Those things take time .. which you often admit but than forget when making criticism
Don't take this the wrong way Rick. I honestly don't think they are worried about you and I. IT's about bringing in the next generation to the golf game. It's an aging population for the rest of the tours. Gen Z are the ones that want a verison of the game that suits them. I think the LIV product isn't completed and needs some rework to get the finished product and I think they know that. ( It has been mentioned that the 54 holes could changed to 72)
It's the CART-IRL split all over again. Only time will tell if Rahm moving over to LIV will be the equivalent of Penske moving to the IRL. Racing fans know what happened to CART not long after.
Dude how can you say that no one is going to care about who wins the JCB tournament? You're missing the whole point of how LIV works, it's just like F1, every race is important for the individual and team champions. It's like saying the British Grand Prix doesn't really matter and no ones going to pay attention. LIV is orders of magnitude a better product than the PGA Tour, from the format to just better coverage.
Crushers to the MOON!
The plans are for the teams to eventually have their own golf complexes, so Crushers are going to be in Texas, Majestics in the UK, Fire Balls in Spain, ect. It will become much like football clubs and be a world tour. Oh and shout out to Max and Red Bull and the greatest season of all time.
You mentioned you didn't want it to become "elitist". It already is. Bunch of, what most would consider, 'rich preppy white guys' who make millions and are arguing about which group is better. The average golfer doesn't care. It gives different opportunities to watch if anything. Some golfers like the 'by the book' golf they get from PGA and some golfers like the looseness of LIV. I just want to play without paying hundreds of dollars
Must be nice to be Rich….
I used to love golf because you had to win or perform to get paid.. That’s dead now. Which is fine, I’ve watched the LIV broadcasts it’s boring. No drama.
LIVs now the Yankees and Red Sox’s of golf that’s cool. Good Luck 😂…
Rick the team element makes sense, I play golf in middle school in teams, high school in teams, college in teams. Stop saying the same point over and over again the teams aren’t going no where. Rahm is never going on your pod cause how ignorant you guys are. So keep dreaming.
I find alot of the questions being asked can already be answered by what happened with Cricket. Cricket has only grown since the introduction of T20 cricket. Big Bash here in Aus has brought cricket to more people and genuinely grown the game. Greg Norman explains this business model over and over, its proven.
LIV will take over . The antiquated PGAT will eventually become 2nd string unless they get rid of moneyhan and revamp the tour to become the global tour is should have been. Take it to the masses. Stop being so american biased and ignorant.
Well done Jon. Can Rory stfu now
Team golf can one hundred percent be very interesting if done right. There are many formats of team golf where you can mix in the events. Collegiate and high school golf are super fun and works. If there are 5 or 6 events where they player match play, scramble, best ball, alt shot, etc. If the goal of the tournament was to win as a team rather than win as an individual, people would tune in and slowly build fandom for the team rather than the individual.
If I heard this right there’s a cracking new Rickism ‘Hatredism’ Great stuff boys 👌🏻
I think we've got to look at this historically across all sports. Big personalities and big performers "grew the game", Ali with boxing, Tiger with golf. These individuals transcended the sport and the structures. Many of us got into the game of golf simply because of Tiger. Given the unique entertainment/appeal golf has over other sports and considering ever changing consumer trends I think we've got to look deeper into what type of structures will best bring out the character and personalities of these elite athletes. However, athletes themselves have evolved and have very different goals and aspiritions, which need to be considered when creating the optimum environment. Big personalities, big performers attract people.
I'm actually really surprised how Rick and Guy's take on LIV teams completely lacks any imagination. Just think what would happen if the Good Good boys joined LIV and created a team. The amount of fan support they'd get would be insane, and people would be glued to their computers waiting for each of the guys to show on screen. And what if Grant, Micah, and the Bryan bros responded with a team of their own? There's your instant rivalry. What teams need to do if they really want their bases to grow is exactly what Bryson's doing, pumping out fun team content that gets people invested in the personalities and players. Once that happens, the possibilities are endless.
