Takomo 101T Review

So it’s been about a week since they arrived and I gotta say they do not disappoint. I’ve played about 90 holes with them and about 2 or 3 range sessions of a 100 balls average. Here’s my experience.

I’m a 30 handicap and now 21 only after a week of playing these irons (although I can’t attribute the decrease solely to these irons, they did play a part). I noticed that I’m topping about 1/3 of my shots and can’t get the ball to go straight as often as I used to with my previous set of irons (which is to be expected).

Transitioning from graphite to steel shafts has proven to be more of a challenge than I thought but it’s certainly a lot easier with the 101T’s. I say this because I’ve tried other similar sized irons with steel shafts and I can’t hit them nearly as good as I can with these which says a lot about the 101T’s forgiveness.

For those deciding between the 101’s or the 101T’s, here’s what I have to say. I think that if you’re simply thinking about the present day and you’re a high to mid handicap, the 101’s are the way. If the 101’s are anything like the reviews, they should be a lot easier to hit than the T’s which I’m kinda struggling with now. The reason I’m not disappointed is because the T’s are apparently supposed to be a good set for scratch, which is what I’m aiming for. So at least I know that once I get a hang of these clubs, I’ll be able to keep them for the rest of my life or 10 years at the very least.

So yeah, basically if you’re mid to high handicap and you don’t really have a goal of becoming scratch, the 101’s are the way. Otherwise get the T’s. Oh and hitting the irons flush, especially with a low compression ball, is probably one of the softest things in the world. I’ve tried hitting the Ping i525, i230 and Srixon mkii ZX5 and man I can confidently say it feels just as soft (or at least the difference is too small to tell).

I’m looking forward to improving with these irons and hopefully they match my expectations.
