"I'd actually quite like it" – Rick "dad of the year" Shiels – 2023
Need to put punching bags next to the ball washers on each hole.
I’ve only pitched my pitching wedge into the woods a summer ago. 😂 no broken clubs yet
never in golf, but I've had a time or two I deliberately broke something to vent anger, and it does feel good. that's why there are businesses that make their income by providing a place for people to smash things.
Loves these short clips from the podcast. Please keep this up
Generally, I think it’s poor sportsmanship to throw your club or yell . I think YouTubers should try not to also because kids watch. I see Steve on good good do it and he seems chill. He could stop. Joey coldcuts does it to add drama for the camera. I’m sure the dude gets hot but he’s extra with it. It’s a gentleman’s game.
Guys that I've played with and have had real meltdowns or anger issues on the course, are called guys I used to golf with.
I bent my putter shaft over my foot in a high school golf practice round. I kept missing my 3 foot putts and tried to knock my putter against my foot but ended up hitting the shaft against my foot and bent the shaft 90 degrees…. that was the last time I acted out hitting clubs. The occasional toss still happens lol.
I’ve never snapped a club but I have called myself all the names under the sun when I was younger, these days it’s water off a ducks back and I play better for it 👍.
Almost lost my shiz a few times but I try to maintain a rule that it's only a game and a game I'm not really that good at 😂😂😂 Shouting blue words and hit my club off the ground is about my limit. My bro throws his clubs about though and a Big G snapped a club once and then declared he'd never do it again. Hedgey has been an angry golfer in the past with one driver being slung in a pond, a pond he'd hit 3 tee shots straight into 😂 He's much more chilled these days though.
Nope, I’m the only one to blame for a crap shot. I’ll swear at myself, not shouting just talking to myself. My view has always been I’m to blame and I shouldn’t do anything that makes a playing partner feel uncomfortable to approach me or possibly put them off their game
Don’t forget.
It’s never the equipment
It’s the operator.
Never, but I did throw one into a tree, a putter.
I could never break a club, cuz I know how expensive it would be to replace it (especially woods and drivers). I just either swing my club in anger or throw a golf ball.
You’re so popular, why don’t you have a sponsor for the podcast so we don’t have to watch ads?
I've snapped my 7 iron over my knee after hitting 2 poor shots in a row 😂
I once launched my driver into the trees. I had to climb the tree to retrieve the driver. Never again 😂😂😂😂
Never. Me and my club fitter make fun of people that break clubs.
Rick is spot on that the passion is great to see in your child. But it's the parents and coaches responsibility to turn that passion into something constructive rather than destructive.
I actually would not have thought Rick would have been "that guy", especially on multiple occasions. Obviously he's calmed down a bit over the years. I would not be happy if my kids did that in anger, as they have been taught to take care of their "stuff" which has nothing to do with their performance.
I used to get so mad playing. Even when I was a low single digit, I’d just get furious over my play. I’d come home and not even talk to anyone in my family. It was ridiculous. Finally I just decided that had to stop. It’s not that important in the big scheme of things. Now I go out and just play. Some people aren’t setup to play competitively. Just play and enjoy the outside air.
As golfers, I think we forget that golf is freakin hard. Just a couple of degrees off and it’s a lost ball or a missed put. Really hard for the human body to replicate such precision. However, we fool ourselves in thinking we can especially when we have just hit a successful shot. Recipes for frustration!
Snapped a Nike 56 degree wedge with my foot after I duffed a shot. My friends grabbed the head out of the trash can and we use it as the trophy when we do friendly competitions
Best I've seen. Mate of mine. He carried 13 clubs + 1 club from his old set. So if he hit a bad shot he could throw the one club into the river! Always cracked me up. 🤣
I don’t do the whole breaking clubs or throwing them in rivers because of how much they cost. However I occasionally do the club toss and I’ve been doing it the second after I hit a bad shot. Like I hardly finish my follow through and the club is on the ground
Remember a match back in HS. Teammate I was paired with was a bit of a loose cannon. Hit the ball a freaking mile. But was erratic.
Strung together a decent round. Was a couple strokes up on his opponent. Last hole was a pretty short par 4. He really tried reaching back with his tee shot. And hit one of the worst tops I’ve ever seen.
He proceeds to bash the tee box with his driver. Looked like a gorilla with a sledgehammer. Ends up only making something like bogey on the hole. Which would have been enough to win his match by one. But, having witnessed his meltdown, my coach hits him with a 2 stroke penalty. Man was he pissed.
Have never broke a club, tossed them back towards the bag yes.bought a putter years and years ago that the face was warped you couldn't tell until you put a flat edge on it.really didn't miss much as center was good but bought a ping which I still use today that was in 1985 lol been eyeing a Cameron recently though. My dad started golfing in the 40s and he started me in the late 60s and I remember him playing a mixed bag until the 80s when quality was better and getting fitted was more common.never seen him throw a club on course but know he replaced several irons, putters and drivers that he put in the garbage 😂
Not a fan of this new style of clipping the podcast. Either watch the podcast or miss out. Producing a load of videos for the channel which are already in a larger video is just a flood
I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has broken a drive by smashing another club into the bag. Thanks Rick. 😂
Thanks for the clips, but if you continue to spam my feed with these I will unsub and just check in once a week for the podcast.
1-2 clips I can tolerate… but if every podcast is going to also have 4 clips going to my feed I will have to unsub to reduce clutter.
Also are you aware how many ad breaks there are during your golf show podcast?
