As a guy who caddied at pine hurst when j was young you make those mistakes when you first start but I make a call if I was right or wrong I stick with it .. ball speed has a lot to do with breaks and at Pinehurst greens would often break up hill .. but best play has a new caddie’s is let the golfer lead the way and guide him through his own head lol
Is there a chance that it breaks left if you hit it to the right and it breaks right if you hit it to the left? That hole could be in the middle of a mini valley no?

If I get a read wrong like this caddie might have I always say well if I could give the perfect reads every time I’d be caddied for Rory Mcilroy and not for you and if you could putt like Rory Mcilroy I wouldn’t be caddying for you because you’d be on the PGA tour 😂😂
Happens all the time when there is a large body of water or something nearby that creates what i call a tie breaking rule. Usually only used on flatter putts though. This definitely seemed like the slope nullified that rule.
