Probably so he hits the middle of the club face. If he lined it up in the middle it would be a toe strike. His arms are really extended on set up with driver. Just a theory but that’s why I do it.

  2. TheBigTree91

I believe it’s because he knows when he swings, especially when he tries to work the ball that his swing path just means he hits it out of the center when he aligns at the heel more.

  3. sheepsheep

Probably just helps him align for his downswing, he brings his backswing up pretty high

Op knows nothing about golf. (Everyone plays different my guy)

  5. CitizenCue

Because there are a lot of little ways everyone plays golf differently. For his specific reasoning you’d have to ask him.

  6. jibba_jabba1

Wesley Bryan does the same thing… that’s all I got

  7. Alfonzo-Star

I’ve noticed during his swing he sits back into his heels quote a bit

  8. No idea but the dude absolutely crushes it so it seems to be working out for him.

  9. SICKTIGHT311

Usually when people do this, they are trying to hit a fade. Be cool to ask him.

Momentum usually takes your swing path outside of starting setup with a driver.

  11. That setup, he either hit it straight or 200 yards right

  12. sammyt10803

I started doing this and added about 10 yards to my drive on average. Started hitting middle of the club face more consistently

  13. Personal_Region_6716

Luke Donald and I think Vijay Singh did this back in the day.

It’s a technique that long drivers use to maximize clubhead speed. Basically, he’s making sure that his body is moving away from the golf ball while he swings instead of towards the golf ball.

Martin Borgmeier talks about using this setup to create more speed, too.

  15. I actually heard this technique from a guy hitting 300 yarders at the range, drastically helped me improve good contact. I’m very new though so idk why Brad does.

  16. BakerHistorical9583

I just started doing this with my new ping driver and hit the best shots I’ve ever hit. I’m not that far on my toe like he is, but I saw a drastic difference in my shots.

  17. hashbrown17

The correct setup is with the ball slightly offset towards you (maybe by 1/2-1 ball).

  18. wonder_bear

I have seen this as a cure for the shanks. Training your brain to swing closer to your body on the way through.

Brad clearly doesn’t have the shanks but he may use it as a way to consistently get perfect contact.

some golfers line up the ball with the heel some line up on the toe. depends on your swing really. just hit a bunch of balls with the club behind the ball directly then see where you tend to hit on the face and make the adjustment.

Outside take away, visual queue to come from inside.

  21. Ok-Cartographer-8730

It helps him shallow the club and drop it in the slot , good trick to help neutralize an upright or left path and help take the right miss out of the equation.

  22. Perfect_Pay6803

If you hit it on the toe line it up on the heel. If you hit it on the heel line it up on the toe. see what happens.

  23. Matsuyamarama

Same reason why I line mine up a little past the centre mark. When I swing, the head of the club is not in the same spot as when I line up.

  24. Only_Salamander9425

I think Martin Borgmeier had a YouTube video on this. I think the higher swing speed guys do this because they pull down so hard on the grip and straighten their legs which could lead to more Toe Hooks. So they start the ball off the heel of the club to offset this.

  25. heliumointment

just a setup to visually promote an inside club path. i’ve seen people do it the opposite way if they tend to hook/draw and they want to play a cut.

  26. Thin_Tea_3525

To compensate for whatever his swing does leading upto hitting the ball.

  27. abeBROham_drinkin

Also as someone who fades the ball, a heel strike is a much better miss than a toe strike. A heel strike will just give him a more spiny over cut, where a toe strike can get it turning left which is death for a fader of the golf ball.

  28. Soggy2009

He’s a cutter and that setup promotes a slightly out to in swing path that promotes a fade.
