Setting out on a crazy adventure of swimming around Mauritius Island in the Indian Ocean in 2022. Sandhya Tina Staub, 40 years old, completed a historic swim in 12 segments on 9 consecutive days from 27 October to 04 November. Due to sea current conditions 3 segments were postponed and completed on 18 & 19 November and 3 December.

The round the island swim covered a total distance of 198.9 km in a total cumulative time of 101 hours 7 minutes. 8 segments were completed in high sea while 4 was in the lagoon. The farthest distance from the shore was approximately 7 km and the deepest sea depth was approximately 1500 m. The project raised MUR 2,207,172 (approximately EUR 46,000) for patients of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Mauritius on Small Step Matters fundraising platform. This fund enabled 3 patients to benefit from scoliosis corrective surgery. Sandhya Tina Staub became the first woman and the first Mauritian woman to have completed and documented this outstanding performance never done before.

Tina started swimming in 2018 only and her message to everyone is to “set out for your wildest dreams and never doubt your capacity”.

The Mauritius National Coast Guard provided sea security and assistance during the whole event.
