Charles Howell III is alone in second place after the first round of the LIV Golf Bedminster event in New Jersey. Howell III fired an opening round 4-under 67 on a difficult Trump National layout. Cam Smith leads the field of 48 players after shooting a 5-under 66 on Friday. Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed trail by two shots headed into the weekend. Smith is the Captain of Ripper GC in the team competition. They have the early lead, with six teams within three shots.
