  1. Ok, but the SHOCK shouldn't be how much the purse is, but how by my count…at $16.5M for a total purse at the Open Championship, there are 15 tournaments on the PGA Tour that are higher! Masters $18M, PGA Championship $17.5M, US Open $20M. Players $25M. Then 8 of the elevated events at $20M (so the players are getting 21% more for playing The Travelers or the RBC at Hilton Head, than The Open, lol). Then the 3 Fedex Cup events. Your question about where this money is coming from…it's the Tour's slush fund that's getting rapidly depleted since paying players that much is totally unsustainable, hence all this recent shit with PIF.

  2. Ben Hogan needed to win desperately so he could buy his next meal and pay the rent.

  3. I’m 63, a fanatical golfer, love the game, love watching professional golf, love sports generally … it must be phenomenal to play the game you love full time and be able to make a sustainable living out of it. BUT prize money and wages in sport, including golf, have been out of control for years. These sort of figures are nothing less than obscene, in a world where many struggle to obtain decent food and shelter, and especially in a sport that constantly espouses charity as one of its primary benefactors. But I’ll still watch and enjoy it, go figure.

  4. The money is staggering, actually almost gross. I think LIV could get some credit for the raise in funds

  5. Youngsters are often encouraged to play the sports where big bucks can be earned. Contact sports are becoming less favourable, so, the golf $'s on offer now should see golf continuing to boom as those junior golfers come through.
Winner of The Open? – as always, whoever putts best.

  6. You are correct 💯. The answer is NO! I'm so excited for The Open. It's by far the best of the Majors IMO. The Masters is a close 2nd. I'm glad the players'purses are now where they should be.

  7. Wait a minute…You say the money has increased because of LIV ? how does that make any sense ?. especially when there have been several lawsuits emanating from LIV which have cost the PGA money to fight. The REASONS why the money has increased are a) that the lawsuits have been withdrawn by PIF, b) that spectator interest in defence of the PGA has increased income, C) a structured system of incremental payments supported by investments and investors which originated in 2021 AND is coming to fruition now. You also need to factor in that the CUT players are now receiving payments, as agreed back at the end of last year, as in the recent Tournaments in the US.

For the sake of publicity, you are making the rise in pvizemoney appear somehow 'unusual and unprecedented'' and related to the LIV fiasco….it is NOT.

  8. It has nothing to do with LIV golf… It's all thanks to GREAT Norman!

  9. Brooks being paired up with the most notorious slow player shows how petty the PGA is? Good topic for a show.

  10. You act like you have been living under a rock. Hello, are you aware of inflation? Are you aware of the real inflationary numbers globally? Are you aware of the fact that the numbers reported by governments are lower than what is actual, are you aware that the elite know what the real numbers are? This is not a big deal. This is real inflation, because the elite require to be treated more accurately.
