Has Ilia compared himself to Plushenko, Yagudin or Patrick Chan? Each of them has much more artistry than Ilia. Yagudin's foot work/step sequence/choreography in his 2002 Olympic games are truly amazing. None of them are gay. Don't attack Yuzuru nor Jason Brown. Sex orientation is not a good excuse for not having artistry. Yuzuru loves music – he wares headsets and listens to the music from time to time. He has good taste/sense about music. Even so, this is a NON-ISSUE. Ilia is just 18. He's practically a KID and expressing himself as such. That's NORMAL for a very young person. He's not as mature or well-spoken as Nathan Chen was at 17 and 18. So, allow him the chance to grow emotionally and artistically (He deserves that), and STOP freaking out over nothing.

What's glaringly obvious about this young man, is that he lacks the skating skills, the grace, and the refinement that both Jason Brown and Yuzuru Hanyu possess intrinsically. And he has an arrogance about him, that he has not earned. Not by a long shot. Giving himself the name of "quad god" and making inappropriate comments about other skaters, implying that they get high marks because of their orientation, or because he perceives their costumes as feminine, was just beyond the pale. When the truth is that he may be able to execute a lot of quads, including the elusive quad axle, he often looks awkward doing them. What's more, the costumes he wears accentuate how long his legs are in comparison to his torso, and only makes him look more awkward. Yes, he's young. But that doesn't excuse his behavior, or negate the need to get help choosing costumes that flatter his body type. And certainly doesn't excuse his poor actual skating skills – which is where component scores come from. Mostly, he needs to eat a great big double helping of humble pie. And master the art of keeping his inappropriate thoughts about others, and his inflated opinion of himself, to himself. Like Jason, Hanyu, and other skaters do.
Hanyu had been working on it for four years and never succeeded, but Malinin succeeded in about half a year. Moreover, while Hanyu failed to succeed from a long run-up, Malinin successfully jumped from difficult turns many times. Malinin's talent and technique surpass Hanyu's.
